Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Led Zeppelin will play its first U.S. show since July 24, 1977, this June at the Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tenn., according to an email published in industry commentator Bob Lefsetz's newsletter. The report also says Metallica will headline the event.

Speculation about additional shows for Zeppelin, which will play a stated one-off Dec. 10 in London in tribute to late Atlantic founder Ahmet Ertegun, has been buzzing for weeks.

A Bonnaroo spokesperson had no comment on the email. A Led Zeppelin spokesperson could not be reached at deadline.

Summer Zeppelin shows would reportedly conflict with a tour by frontman Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, which is presently being booked. However, Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has played at Bonnaroo on several occasions, most recently this summer when he jammed on his old band's songs with Ben Harper and the Roots' ?uestlove.

As for Metallica, Bonnaroo would likely provide a launching pad for the group's next album, expected sometime in 2008 via Elektra.

I call bullsh*t on this! Why? Ain't no way Led Zeppelin is gonna be a support act for anyone, especially hacks like Metallica!!! But if the rumor is true... :blob1: :blob2:

Because acid, mushrooms, and neohippies aren't my thing anymore.

I guess being that it's not far from where I live has kind of jaded me... some of my friends still go, but yeah. $300 bucks a ticket and likely to continue going up... the lineup is super dope, but that is a lot of money.

She definitely shouldn't go until she's 18. There's a lot of illicit **** that goes down there.

Thanks for the heads up... I was sure that's what was going on there...

I was sure you were going to say because of the traffic. I was in Knoxville in June when B-roo was going on, and the traffic *there* was ****ed up from people passing thru to Manchester. I can't imagine what it's like around Nashville.

Even if Zep played the Bay area I'd be hesitant to go ..Robert Plant just does not have the range required to do most of their songs live anymore..I would be interested in seeing him and Allison Krauss tour in support of their superb new album though.

Sure, Plant doesn't have the range anymore... but he hasn't had it in 25 years! But at least his voice now has a nice kind of smoky patina to it, whereas 35 years ago he often sounded like he was breathing helium balloons.

As for Allison Krauss... she scares me. I mean, I can understand that a gal of a certain age could use a Botox injection or two, but her face is frozen like the tundra. Whatever happened to aging gracefully? I liked it better when she was the cute little pudgy folkie you only heard on NPR.

There's a big rumour floating round that they're going to do a big US tour next year but it can't be announced until after Monday's concert.
