View Full Version : Mystery "mad" Chris song...

A friend of mine recently told me that she had one of those dish network audio stations on tv and they played a pre-1975 fleetwood mac song with chris on lead. she had never heard the song before but was postive that it was fleetwood mac because they showed the credits and she, being a sort of casual fan, recognized Chris's voice right away.

Of course, I asked her what song it was and she didn't remember the name. She was positive that the title was one of those that has part of it in parentheses (like Rhiannon (will you ever win)). Additionally, she said that the song mentioned being mad or something to that effect. Now that was an even tougher mystery cause Christine is one of the last ones to be mad about anything except in love in any of her songs.

So, I went through my collection (although I don't have kiln house or any of her solo stuff) but couldn't find any such song. So I was forced into singing her a very quick medley of some possibilities. Nothing. So I let it go.

I just checked the lyric database to no avail. Anyone have any clues? It's been driving me nuts the past several weeks!!!

Watch, it's probably not even a FM or Christine song. People are so "certain" and then they end up being wrong and say, "oh, well i thought...."

Well, Fleetwood Mac WAS on Midnight Special during the MTM years. They did "Believe Me" & "Miles Away".

It might've been "Believe Me" that she heard, since there's the line:

"What can you say to accuse me
When you know I'm not to blame"

Not exactly a "happy, feel good" line.

But, after reading your post again, being just an audio, it could've been "Bad Loser" from the Heroes Are Hard To Find album...that was her pissed off song about Clifford Davis.

"Well you thought you had a hold on me
But it's different now
Everything you done before has fell upon you now

Are you just a bad loser
But you never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never let it show

All the strings and strokes in the book
Won't buy you piece of mind
All because you did what you did
You're not the peaceful kind

You're just a bad loser
And you'll never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never, never let it show

I think you really know what I mean
But I'll tell you one more time
Oh cause it's the truth and you know it
That you're no friend of mine

You're just a bad loser
And you'll never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never let it show"

"Believe Me" mentions "crazy" in it, too. Is that what your friend meant by "mad"?

It's probably the Midnight Special version, as ChiliD already told you. Great stuff. But if, as he suggests it was "Bad Loser" I'd LOVE to see it!

I really really love her very different style in BAD LOSER.....

I wish she explored more... but when she did we got songs like

BTM
Bad Loser
Morning Rain

thanks for all your suggestions. it could have been either of those. but i'm still confused about the parentheses thing. my friend swears it was a title wiith parentheses.

who knows...maybe it was a completely different band although it's hard mistaking christine for anyone else.

Christine doesn't really have songs with parentheses, especially from that era. Later she had Hollywood. Solo, early on, she had Let Me Go, Leave Me Alone, which I suppose can be considered an angry (at least disillusioned) song, even though the word mad is not in the lyrics.

You'll just have to sit your friend down and play all of Fleetwood Mac's early albums for her until she hears the song.

And even if she doesn't recognize the song, she'll have a really great listening experience.

"I'm Too Far Gone(To Turn Aound)" is another of her songs with parentheses in the title. I can't imagine that this would be the song heard on the TV though.

It's hard to confuse Christine with other voice. Maybe it's not necessarily pre-75, or maybe is a solo work...
