What do you want on a compilation of Fleetwood Mac's

- Non-album B-sides
- Demos
- Rarities
- Alternate Takes
- "Goofing around in the studio" songs

Ken Caillat has suggested that perhaps the road to getting these is in our hands:

"I'm sure if enough of you send them (Warners) letters requesting the same songs they'll hop right on it and get them out. But you all need to get together on this, may be you can do that through this web site, if a million fans get together and put a list together of your favorite songs you want released and of Warners' has those songs, they would be absolutely crazy not to release them."

Let's get a list going!

Absolutely I would buy this stuff. I have some of this stuff already and feel like i am a criminal for having them. One things that only a few bands really realize is that the fans want to feel as connected as possibly and they can't get that gut emotion from a studio/produced song. But the demos or the outtakes are a great way to feel like you are catching these bands at their most human. When they screw up or they are just talking about stupid things...it is the real them..and we love that stuff!

I would buy this stuff. It would save me tons of times going to trading sites. Also the official release almost always have better sound quality. And maybe they should just take the sessions tapes and just release them on cd like The Blue Horizon sessions were. I like hearing the band start and then stop and start again into the same song. It creates magic when you listen to them because you feel like you are right there with them in the studio if you close your eyes.

It was such a good idea when they included the Little Lies remixes as bonus tracks for the I Do cd-single. I was hopeful there would be more rare material available on further releases but as it turned out this was the only single from "Time". After that, nothing else happened. :distress:

It would be really great to have a huge collection of all the b-sides, remixes and ESPECIALLY... the outtakes!! I would even buy an expensive box set just to finally get these tracks.

Goodbye Angel and Teen Beat were good examples of the quality of unreleased FM tracks! So give us many many more!

I agree. The 'I Do' single is great.

Me again!

Well, this thread is similar to the one I just replied in. Well, I'll just repeat that any rarities that were never released or different versions of songs that were released would be a treat!

A few "magic moments" that I can think of off the top of my head are:

Lindsey's Blue Monday
Lindsey's I've Been Loving You Too Long

The rehearsal tape on which Christine tried to sing Dreams because Stevie was late or something. In that same session, they tried to do Landslide without Stevie - Lindsey then did an instrumental solo of Landslide playing both the melody and the accompaniment that was the most awesome thing I've ever heard! Christine comments on how beautiful it is.

Lindsey's composing I Walk A Thin Line - he sounds three sheets to the wind - it's very funny.

Some of the songs from The Dance rehearsal "unplugged" that didn't make the final show, such as:

Where Were You
Twisted
Brown Eyes
Forbidden
Shadows Of Love
Little Lies

I love all of this "off the record" stuff . . .:]

Anything that hasn't already been legally released, studio or live with a Mac member on it past or present I will buy. Plain and simple. It's hard to make a list because bootleggers get these tapes and have to make up their own titles because they don't know what it's called and they might be lucky and choose the right words that happen to be the title sometimes but more often than not, the titles they make up are not the right ones and I can just imagine Warners acting really wise about this and saying "Well, we looked in the vaults and we didn't see any tapes with these titles so we can't release what we don't have". That's my biggest fear is this catch 22 situation of not having access to the correct titles but they want the titles so they know what we want. I guess we won't know until we try so let's hope our efforts go well rewarded! Fingers and toes crossed!

I want: demos-all of 'em=:-), outtakes, rehearsals, B sides, alternate versions, rarities, unreleased songs...specifically, the unedited Sara, You and I part I, the demo? of Chain - anyway it has them playing this long intro and then going into the song-it's on the Rumours DVD by the way-3 versions of Gold Dust Woman, 2 versions of Silver Springs, Down Endless Street (I don't want much-heehee) I guess what I want is all this FM stuff I have on bootleg tapes so it's decent quality..Oh, I want a clean! copy of the Mirage video..

The thing is...WE would buy all of this stuff. Of course we would be first in line for it!
But, (and we hate to post it, but...) we really don't think that many people (outsiders) would buy a strictly outtake and demos CD.
The Penguin people would buy it, but not too many others would.
Don't you think?

We just think the other ideas/polls going on...like the conerts on DVD and the vidoes would have more of a priority over these.

Maybe this particular one (the demoss/outtakes CD) can be sold stictly on The Penguin.

I know what you're saying. In setting up these polls, I was sort of in a quandry as to how to measure peoples' interest in some of these things since we all know we want it all. We need some sort of measurable thing to let Warners know there is at least some sort of an audience out there for this stuff. If there is a lot of interest in this kind of material, maybe we can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, and get this material included in some other way, if not in its own compilation. ;)

If Warners couldn't be convinced to release a compilation of demos/rarities/alt. takes on it's own, we might be able to get demos/rarities/alt. takes from each time period (Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, etc..) included on remastered CDs of Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, etc... We just need some way to let them know we're really interested in this kind of material and will take it in whatever form they'll give it to us.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Well, maybe we should concentrate on having the unreleased stuff being stuck on the end of the remastered albums CD releases. In other words, Rumours outtakes on the end of the Rumours CD, Mirage outtakes on the end of the Mirage CD, etc. Some of those discs (especially Mirage needs a good remastering anyways). Anybody else think we should concentrate on this? In reality, the general public probably would really only buy the normal albums. Of course, if the albums were to be re-released, they might as well be full up with goodies so the fans would have that to look forward to and the "everyday buyer" (as Warners would see it) would have all of the stuff they would be familiar with (i.e. the album itself) so they would be more easily persuaded to buy the disc. I would hope if they don't go for this idea that limited edition discs (whether it be of only unreleased stuff or remasterings) could be pressed and sold by Warners through The Penguin but I think Marty and Ken are going to talk about this possibility in more detail together soon so I guess we'll see on that idea. At least Warners wouldn't have to worry about having a warehouse full of unsold CD's if they chose this option as they would only print what they know would sell around here. I guess we have to unite on this if we're going to make an impact so what does everyone else think? We need to keep in mind that Warners only care about money and sales so whatever idea we come up with needs to convince them that they will get that from our ideas. (while of course not forgetting to include what we want which is the unreleased stuff!) Let's hear it.

That's just what I was thinking--sell them here! I also love the idea of tacking all these "extras" onto the end of remastered cds. I think either of these options would be better to do than just doing a separate box set kind of thing.......that is not going to sell as well.......but with either of these 2 options, the true fans on The Penguin will have access to these recordings & be able to enjoy them.

The only problem with this is the quality of the outakes / alt mixes, if the quality id not top notch Warners will never realese on a commercial CD, however I will gladly buy the CD with what ever quality is on it, it must be better then the bootlegs.

I believe that a outtakes / alt mixes CD should be sold via The Penguin to the die-hard fans, I don't think we would complain too much if the quality of the tracks were not top notch.

Any thoughts?

You´re right. And at least these releases would come from the original master tape, not something like the copy of a copy of a copy... So the sound quality shouldn´t be too bad, even if the songs themselves didn´t get the "full musical treatment".

After much discussion about trying to secure the release of Fleetwood Mac material that is out of release or contained in Warner Brothers' vaults, Ken Caillat has directed our hopes toward a single test project first. This project is a DVD collection of approximately 10-12 Fleetwood Mac music videos and possibly some live performance footage. Please see Marty's "sticky" post at the top of this Q&A forum for more details. As that is the only release realistically in our grasp right now, we're closing this thread and invite you to please provide your input about what to include in the DVD collection. The success of this project may determine the possibility of getting some other kinds of Fleetwood Mac material released in the future. Thanks!
