I am back!! If anyone remembers me, that is...it's been a rough year so far. I am currently in treatment with a man who told me an interesting story last night when Edge of 17 came on the radio. He wasa very prolific male dancer in the 1980's, mainly in Wisconsin. Lo and behold, he was at the Alpine Valley show in 1986. He also attended the after show party. There were, apparently, four hotel suites attached to one another, and he was introduced to Stevie. She didn't want anyone touching her or shaking her hand and was barking out orders to those who were with her...she mainly stayed by herself with the "plate of cocaine" she had in front of her all night :( So sad...I've been there and done that, and I'm so glad our gril is out of that now!

Sounds pretty accurate from the stories I heard from that time including somneone that worked at the Grand hotel in San Diego when after her RAL show there at the Sports Arena she and her entourage had an entire floor that apparently reeked of pot smoke and cases of champagne and other booze were sent up regularly.

I have a friend who used to be a hair dresser and for some reason had been in a limo with Stevie. I don't remember the details but I believe it was around the RAL era. He said she was a total bitch. Drugs do terrible things to a person.
I remember seeing in interview with her in the early 90's and thinking that I'd never want to meet her in person for fear of being totally disillusioned. I'm glad she's off the stuff now and seems to be very happy in her life.
iamovercome, I hope things are going well for you. Good luck in your recovery. Good healing vibes comin' your way! :)

I knew a guy who was working as a bartender at the garden city hotel
in long island new york. It was after the Ral tour she had just finished
her show at jones beach. It was around 4 in the morning and
she went down to the club and had an scotch and water. Fans stopped
dancing and went by her. Her body guards went to stop them and she
got mad at the body guards....She was talking to the people for about
an hour or until closing. My friend bought her a couple of drinks.
I guess she was so  coked out she wanted to talk to anyone....
I am glad she is better also....
I love our Stevie now.....

I spent some time with Stevie at the Supper Club that year. I found her happy & healthy, drinking fruit juice & nibbling on rice cakes. Her show upstairs had been perfect & the group was enjoying itself on the tour. A bunch of people were waiting by the club entrance/exit by the pylons, & Stevie walked over to chat a bit & sign autographs, &c.
I asked her about the heavy kohl around her eyes, & she said her makeup assistant had got the idea for that from the Attenborough film Gandhi, which they had seen recently & loved. They wanted to generate a little of the allure & mystery of East India, & someone had given Stevie a picture book of the Ramayana with illumination-style illustrations, which she totally loved reading stories from. (She said that the journalist Timothy White turned her on to Indian myths.)

Glad to hear a nice Stevie story. Again my friend said she was
really nice and chatting a lot with the people in the club.
I guess it depends on her mood. She was under a lot of pressure
that year.
