We can go back to the other threads if michele is able to recover them, but for now, we can use this to discuss the upcoming event.

I was able to get a log-in for the HDNet press site. But, I can't find any Lindsey photos yet! There really aren't that many photos of anything on the site, and honestly, for each show that they have represented there is only one photo. So, boo.

But if one does pop up, I'll pass it on (even though it's against terms of use, but it's not like I actually care if they cancel my log-in).

I'm so excited to see this. :woohoo: I'm counting down the days until my copy comes...

I wish I had HD.

Ok, I just had to get that off my chest.

I know. To see this in HDTV would be amazing. My parents have an HDTV and the picture quality of events shot in HDTV or transferred to HD is simply awesome. I mean: Soul Plane and My BEst Friend's WEdding on an HD cable channel made my mouth drop. I can't even imagine how amazing this would be.

Anyway, my boss might have HDNet on her High Def Cable program and may invite me over so I can watch the show! But I don't think that will happen, cuz I haven't heard from her yet.

Oh and I got confirmation that I will be able to burn a couple of dvds for people as part of my role in . . . The Chain. So when I get mine I will be able to send a couple along to others if needed.

As we prepare for the show, thought I'd post this article from back in January when it was taped:

Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Fort Worth), January 28, 2007
Singer goes his own way in style

By ROBERT PHILPOT, STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

FORT WORTH -- When you're essentially a cult artist who has sprung from a mega-selling band, sometimes you have to strike a balance in concert. For Lindsey Buckingham , that tightrope is strung between 30-year-old Fleetwood Mac songs about a relationship gone awry and present-day ones about finding peace in the marriage he's in now.

In his show Saturday night at Bass Hall, Buckingham pulled off the high-wire act and then some, playing several songs off his excellent new CD Under the Skin and his biggies from 1977's Rumours -- Go Your Own Way, Second Hand News, Never Going Back Again -- but also touching on many other aspects of his Fleetwood Mac tenure and his solo career.

The show's best moments came when Buckingham messed with the old stuff. When he pulled out an explosive, eardrum-rewiring guitar solo on I'm So Afraid, he may have risked self-indulgence -- except that he seemed to lose control, becoming possessed by the screaming tones that filled the hall. That was the high point, but it wasn't the only highlight.

Space doesn't permit listing all the examples, but another wild solo to climax Go Your Own Way and a malevolent take on the 1984 solo hit Go Insane, which sounded more like something from a spaghetti Western than the bouncy original, were among the many peaks.

Sometimes playing solo, other times with a band (guitarist Neale Heywood, percussionist Taku Hirano and bassist/keyboardist Brett Tuggle), Buckingham may have shocked anyone who still thinks of Fleetwood Mac as '70s soft-rock.

Rippling through finger-picked guitar runs, modulating his vocals from near-whispers to full-throated bellows, leading the group in the oddball sonic experiments he so loves, Buckingham showed why some people call him visionary even as his opening number Not Too Late indicated that he's uncomfortable with the term.

If the show had a flaw, it was in the momentum-threatening interruptions that occurred because the concert was being filmed for Mark Cuban's HDNet. But even with those minor glitches, Buckingham danced all over the tightrope, when he could have settled for just walking.

GRADE: A

So will anybody here be posting this on ThrownDown (if it's back) or on another site like The Traders Den once they get it tonight?

I'm really looking forward to seeing this. Been really looking forward to it to cheer me up a bit. Can't wait to see it!

EDIT: It says that the show is one and a half hours long. Does HDNet show adverts and that will mean we'll only get an hours worth of the show? Does anyone know how long the show was before stuff gets taken out? I'm guess an hour and a half would be about right if all the guitar swaps are edited out. I'm just hoping we'll get as much of the show as possible, but if they leave some songs out to make it fit then I suppose it'll leave more to look forward to on the DVD.

The show? How was it???

AMAZING!!! Did you expect any less?!!

 At any rate in all seriousness, it was an incredible hour and half on my couch... Lindsey in HD and the way the mix sounded all the way through the show was definetly a treat. The new songs came across the BEST I've ever heard him live.

I'm not sure if they cut any songs out, but all of the great tunes from the last tour were there! Shut us Down was the final song to end the show.

I've got this on my HD recorder and I'm going to attempt a DVD transfer (sadly all of the brilliance of HD will be lost...) but I've got a Blu-Ray burner on the way next week so I should be able to burn this to Blu-Ray disc and share with anyone who missed the show, retaining all of the HD quality.

TWO THUMBS UP LINDSEY!!! PLEASE COME BACK NEXT YEAR FOR MORE! :D

I really appreciated the vocal arrangements on the new songs a lot, because live, sometimes depending on where you are sitting, sometimes you can't hear all of the subtleties of the vocals. Neale and Brett sound wonderful with Lindsey on Castaway Dreams, It Was You and Show You How.

Lindsay Vannoy was listed as doing extra keyboards in the credits.

Ray was listed as "audio choreographer." I don't know what an audio choreographer does, but I was glad to see him there. I thought Ray was retiring after the SYW tour, but was happy he returned for a bit during UTS. When he left, I was convinced the new guy who handed Lindsey the guitars was going to cause him to trip and break his neck.

That's how I felt about it when I saw ISA live at this show. I'm glad it comes across like that recorded too. No Turn It On or World Turning is a disappointment but like everyone has said, maybe it got cut for time. I was actually afraid Turn It On would get left off the whole time anyway because it was only the 2nd time he performed it and it felt a bit unrehearsed...still great but I didn't know if he'd want that on the DVD.

I kind of wonder if part of the reason SMAP got cut was because the crowd really thinned out by that time. I think many people thought he was finished for the night, and decided to beat the crowd out of there.

Although the crowd didn't look thin for "Shut Us Down", which was the last song for the airing last night, and appeared to be the last song he performed. (Not sure if that was an edit? My memory sucks, but I thought SMAP was actually the last song he performed that night. I could be wrong, though - maybe it was indeed "ShutUs Down".)

I just remember that I was thrilled to hear SMAP, but was sad because the place had thinned out and quieted down so much that it felt like the last song for the night at a lounge. SMAP is my absolute favorite LB song. And it's such a beautiful song, I felt sad that people walked out on it.

It's working for me now as well. Now as long as we can get a seeder it'll be great.:D

I have a chapter editing program that I found on the net, so I might chop it into proper chapters once I get it, but the program was free so I'd be scared that it would decrease the quality of the DVD if I used it. If it doesn't then I'll try do that once I get it and maybe post the edited version on ThrownDown, unless someone with better (i.e. any) know-how gets there before me.

It's a pity that Turn It On and especially SMAP and Red Rover aren't there, but I get that they would have been taken out for time reasons and RR is on Soundstage anyway, so I guess I can live without it. Hopefully they'll all be on the DVD when it gets released, though I wouldn't be suprised if TIO was still left out since it was really unrehearsed and Lindsey might not be happy with the performance. I'm so happy that SUD is there, because as far as I remember he'd only started doing that one around the time this was filmed as well, so I was worried it wouldn't make it. It's great that none of the UTS songs got cut. Having six of the 11 tracks done live and on one DVD/show is fantastic! I'd have been annoyed if they'd been left out in favour of songs we've heard a million times before like GYOW. It's a good balance of old and new IMO.

Indeed. Once I heard Holiday Road then he was obligated to have Show You How make the cut, because if Show You How had been omitted for Holiday Road, just because that's better known, I would have been frothing at the mouth. I would have boycotted.

I was wondering for people who were at the concert, there is one point at the beginning where someone yells out and Lindsey replies along the lines of "I feel exactly the same way." I was wondering if anyone remembers what the lady actually yelled to him, because I couldn't make out her words.

Holiday Road is just so much better than Show You How I can't even begin to explain. But then again I hate Show You How with a passion. Should have done Try for the Sun.

It might be too new for me to accurately assess it, but right now I see Show You How as one of my top 5 Lindsey songs ever. I loved it as soon as I heard it, to the point where I had to force myself to stop listening to it, to prevent overkill.

In the Sound Off interview Lindsey talked about how he used a half voice on his UTS songs. Tell me about it. That voice killed part of the album for some people. With more rhythm and a different vocal, Show You How could have been a completely different song, but I'm enraptured with what it is.

I have a copy of SYH that's completely off the cuff during an interview and it was incredible...it was one of those situatuions where Lindsey had prepared Big Love or Not Too Late like always and was asked to do Show You How. He did it and it was an awesome, raw version.

Oh I completely agree. If Lindsey had done a typical "rock" album I think almost all of those songs would be "better" (wasn't sure on the word to use. I love some of these songs, but they sound like demos to me). I HATE the half voice thing. HATE HATE HATE! Twist of Fate would sound soooo much better if he didn't **** up the vocals like that ughhh!

But anyway, the songs that I think should remain in original acoustic for are Try for the Sun, Down on Rodeo, Under the Skin, and Shut us Down. I think all the others should have been done differently.

It's not on the album. It's one of the ROCK songs from GOS?????

I hate not being able to understand him until I look at the lyric sheet or hear it live. I just think it sounds.....ridiculous. The vocals in Twist of Fate do not match the "sound" of that song. I just think he really hates the way his voice comes across, which sucks for me because I mostly dislike what he does with his vocals.

I was just using Twist of Fate as an example of him decieving his vocals on a non UTS track.

I don't think SUD sounds like its his vocals. He sounds like he is whispering and shrieking. Although on the other end of the spectrum when I saw him do it live (3 times ;)) I was blown away thought it sounded 10 times better.

Same for UTS.

I can't really get into Shut Us Down, but I'm not sure if I would like it better with a band and a different voice. So, I . . . I love the lyrics, but since it was going to be in a movie and everything, I think I wish it had been done a bit differently.

I don't like Juniper, but at least Lindsey has acknowledged that people other than us don't like it, so . . . if he recognizes the song is kind of superficial, but just did it for himself, I'm all for that.

Other than those 2, I guess I'm happy with UTS the way it is. Well, one more complaint: I have a problem with covers. These guys have too many unreleased songs of their own, so I never appreciate them doing anyone else's songs, no matter how good they are. So, yeah, if, say, I Am Waiting had been replaced with Deep Dense, I would have been in heaven. Michele

They're his vocals if they come out of his mouth.

Listening to all the album tracks he's been involved with for the past 30+ years, I appreciate his versatility. He plays with them like they're an instrument.

At first the SUD vocals were weird to digest for me, but after listening to what he was SAYING more and more, they started to fit perfectly. It's like a mood.. a feeling of being almost too choked up to talk about it, then he musters up a little bit of strength to FORCE that high note when "as looooooooooooong as i cannnn" comes around.

People have been saying this stuff for as long as the album has been out, and it really does grate my nerves a bit. It's like some don't WANT to give the different style a chance. That's the kind of **** that probably makes him feel unappreciated.

He plays so much that when I first heard the kids at the end of SYW I just assumed that was Lindsey.

People have been saying this stuff for as long as the album has been out, and it really does grate my nerves a bit. It's like some don't WANT to give the different style a chance. That's the kind of **** that probably makes him feel unappreciated.

Well . . .that's not exactly what I appreciate about him. I don't know, sometimes, as in Time Bomb Town when he is experimenting with sound and it is so expertly intertwined with the song's message, that is what I do consider his genius. It's Lindsey's unique fingerprint and I love it. There the mechanical hiccups and yelps, blend with the futuristic theme and I find it breath-taking.

Other times, I just think he's being weird and annoying, but I really don't care. With other artists, I think if I wish and pray hard enough, if it's commercially shunned, maybe they'll stop doing something I don't like. With him, it's like whatever. I guess I feel he's stubborn and his will is greater than mine, so he's never going to stop and I might as well just give in. I feel it's not even worth my energy to wish he wouldn't, because he will.

I saw the move Elizabethtowne just because posters on the Ledge said it contained a new Lindsey song...then I heard Big Love play in the movie and thought...'Is that it?"

Then I heard Shut Us Down and figured that has to be Lindsey singing...but...I didn't like it...it was whispered and not singing... (I was expecting something along the grounds on On the Wrong Side...from the movie With Honors...and I was disappointed with SUD.)

THEN I heard it on Conan o'Brien and thought....Is THAT the same song? It was freakin' awesome...like maybe it wasn't ready in time for the movie, but it sure was ready in time for the late night show.

It was just meant to be sung this way. It's a very intimate song, like you said, you get a feeling of being too choked up to talk about the subject matter. It needs to be done in a whispery voice, to enhance all those emotions. Like he is relaying it to someone special, late at night, huddled together.

I guess this is where I'm a Lindsey purist. I can't think of anything that gets weird and annoying. Sometimes I'm not in the mood to listen to Not That Funny live. Or Teen Beat. And for a time, I really hated the smoothness of Oh, Diane.

It's just that there is a faction of people who feel the need to throw it in everyone's face that he isn't the greatest guitarist of all time, even when he's many peoples' favorite guitarist. And there's a faction of "he can't sing" people. And people who are like "he doesn't write good lyrics". It just makes me wonder... why bother bringing it to the Lindsey forum? Some people will actually have a good discussion about the reasoning behind the opinions, but others just throw that **** out there and expect others to be like, "thanks for your negative opinion! please come again!"

As #1LiddyBuckFan said, there was quite a bit of banter between Lindsey and the crowd. They cut all of that out, with the exception of what you posted above.

Yes, I can depending on what part of the song you're discussing. If you're discussing the guitar riff in GYOW that doesn't remind me of any Stevie songs at all, but Vanessa discussing the intimacy in SUD certainly does remind me of Stevie's songs.

I think SUD, Thown Down, Love Is, Fall From Grace and Castaway Dreams are all about the same subject matter and if I was going to discuss the message or meaning of them, let alone the intimacy, yes, one is going to make me reference another.

I think Lindsey's take on the response SUD gets in concert is interesting. He said that while the song is about a relationship, when people see him performing it, they link it to him as a performer and they cheer because he is declaring that he is staying around as an artist as long as he can. So, I think he particularly likes it as a closer for that reason. It's like a career affirmation.

exactly. and that's why it's not the same as the original. it NEEDS to be done fullblast vocal live, BECAUSE it gets new meaning. But it doesn't make it any better than the studioversion, which is so delicate and vulnerable it makes your skin fall off. I understand people who hate his vocal on it. It's embarrasing. But exactly that makes it the most honest song I've ever heard. Since that moviesoundtrack, I walk around skinless.

I would agree with you, except that I don't find the SUD vocals very honest on the record. I think they're contrived. If that was Lindsey's true, broken voice, then I would agree with you. You know like when he is offkey or raspy in concert, because he's given the show his all and stripped his throat, I don't care what he sounds like then. It doesn't detract from the performance. But on the studio version of SUD, the sound is affected, created rather than organic. So, that keeps me from thinking, "Oh, it's just so honest."

I don't hate the song or anything. Living with it for awhile prepared me for UTS and so I didn't see a thing odd about the UTS vocals at all. It was like SUD had been my innoculation and I had all necessary immunities by the time I heard the album. The vocals on UTS sounded normal by that time. It's like he says in Steve's Riff: He wore me down.

Now these arguments are the best i've read against his vocals on SUD. I can understand that. It's all about feel: They sound affected and created, yes, but hey! it's Lindsey. Doesn't he do that ALL the time? Isn't that part of his studiomuse? "i'm not necessarily a writer, more a stylist." It works for me.

 Where do you work that they don't mind you blasting music?I run my own video store. It comes with four tv's and a 5.1 dolby surround system. It's a good thing people know me and my, ehm, interests.

Wow! That's a great endeavor. I was a film major, myself. And kudos to sharing Lindsey with your customers. Nice-looking place.

I've not seen it yet. I'm waiting on it in the mail from our resident Ledgie, Betsy. I tried downloading it, but it's too big.

One of these days, I'll travel downtown and go to Joe T's.

Oh and Vanessa, I used to work in a video store and it NEVER looked that amazing. Nice!

Vanessa,

When you said you would be watching the video at work, I wondered where in the heck you could be working.

When the dvd comes out, you can kind of force people to buy it. If they want Harry Potter, they will have to take Lindsey in order to get it! No questions asked.

I could not co-exist with that many m&ms. They'd have to butter me up and break down the door frames to get me out at closing time. :distress:

No questions asked. You know how many people I have managed to convert by just playing LB/SN/Mac stuff over the years? I don't even need to force them to buy/rent it. Sadly though, these type of things never show up on my order list, so we won't get it. All we have are a few copies of the The Dance.

you look smashing dahlink. Thanks, babe. :xoxo: You know what scares me? That picture was taken two years and I'm wearing that same shirt today. It's time to go shopping. :distress:

They'd have to butter me up and break down the door frames to get me out at closing time. :distress:Why do you think I gained 25 pounds since I started working there almost 6 years ago? In all seriousness, I definitely had to develop some self control, but I've got the hang of it now. I don't eat any of the snacks anymore, I only drink water when I'm there. And the occasional jar of B&J's. :o

Danax6 you are quite possibly the best looking Ledgie I've ever seen.
Lindsey and Co. would be lovin to see you in the front row.
And that is also quite possibly the most clean and organised sweet shop on the planet.

Seeing you might get to spend some time together ;), i showed your picture to my husband and he thought you worked at the snack and beverage counter at the Metropolis cinema complex in Antwerp :lol:Ah, but what a great theatre it is. I've been there quite a few times. They often host the annual Moviethon meeting there, where I get to watch all the new releases in one sitting, all day long. For free. Oh yeah, there's business to discuss also, but who cares?

Nice store btw. From the flowers i guess that's a pic from the opening of the store eh ?After it re-opened. The store first opened in 1999, but last year we had some personnel/management shifts and we closed down for about three months.
