Setting The Record Straight
Tuesday, October 2, 2007
It's time to set the record straight about one of our upcoming releases that we've received a lot of questions about - the Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham Sound City Sessions. We licensed their unreleased recordings from Carman Productions, Inc. about a year ago, and it seemed that all the paperwork was in order to give us the go-ahead to release it. Unfortunately, it appears that this was not the case, and that this CD will not see the light of day. Maybe someday we'll see…

Not unexpected, but a shame nonetheless. It's such a waste when you think about these recordings just collecting dust in someone's basement.

So, LindsAy and Stevie blocked it. Why am I not surprised?

I'm not so sure that was the case. When I talked to Sonic Past Music's media relations person on the phone earlier this year, she told me that they had just secured the rights to use Lindsey and Stevie's names and likenesses to promote the release. Everything seemed to be a go.
The snag seems to have arisen when the session musicians contacted SPM about royalty payments for their work on the songs. From what I understood, it couldn't be determined exactly whom played on what, and an agreement couldn't be reached.

Forgive my ignorance on this, but you would think that during the recording process, this kind of stuff would be documented somewhere.

It probably was, but they couldn't secure the rights to have a look at them.:woohoo:
That, or it was mistakenly ground up and snorted.:lol::lol:

Remember seeing any of the labeling on the reel-to-reel tapes from Stevie's career? Lots of bad labeling there. Just carelessness.

Ok maybe I'm an idiot, but if they cant figure out who played on what, how the hell would anyone know if they had a legal claim on anything if this stuff was released. UGH is the operative word for sure!:distress:
