I'm fairly happy with who's on the list, but the order seems a little fubar.

That's the married couple in Arcade Fire.

Aww, holla for John & Exene.

trackaghost
09-26-2007, 10:21 AM
But then Exene went on to marry Viggo Mortensen.
That's so bizarre to me

Nice to see Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley from Yo La Tengo included there.

Ike and Tina though? Really? I presuming they are talking on a purely musical level here.

WTF? John and Yoko #1? Doesn't the inclusion of Yoko Ono in any coupling automatically place that duo at the bottom of the list?

I just can't stand RS's need to appeal to the hipsters. Arcade Fire? White Stripes? Who the f*** would even consider them worthy of this list? And how could they leave out the ultimate rock royalty: James and Carly! And, of course, John and Christine!

It's so wrong for them to be on the list. Even if it is musical, Ike was no musician. It was always about Tina.

I guess they're included because the music they released together is so highly regarded still but I agree, Tina was the true talent there.

There's only two new bands on a list of 15. RS would look even more dated and irrelevant than it already does if it didn't acknowledge more modern bands.

The first one in particular...

Still even some of the 'classic' couples on the list I have never heard of.

3. Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon [??]
6. Richard and Linda Thompson [I may have heard of them, but....]
7. Win Butler and Regine Chassagne [??]

And The Cashes, I dont get why they're so high.
I always thought of Johnny Cash to be more country than rock.
Springsteen and his wife, She was just a musician in the E Street Band, unless Im getting my facts wrong.

I dont know, I just think that other couples should have been recognised..

[even the husband/wife from the Talking Heads/TomTomClub.]

Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon are both in Sonic Youth one of the most influential alternative bands ever. They're been married for 23 years.

Richard and Linda Thompson are a folk rock duo. I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight from 1973 is considered something of a classic (RS actually listed it as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time a couple of years back). They recorded together for about 10 years before splitting. Richard Thompson is regarded as one of the best guitar players in the world by a lot of the guitar mags.

As I said before Win Butler and Regine Chassagne are the married couple in Arcade Fire.

Johnny Cash is the only musician inducted into both the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and the Country Hall Of Fame, and he started out life on Sun Records along with Elvis. I do think he qualifies.

Bruce Springsteen's wife Patti Scialfa is in his band but she's also recorded three solo albums. The new one Play It As It Lays is fantastic, you should check it out.

Thats kindof cool how Cash is the only musician indcucted into both halls of fame.

Sorry I didnt see the Arcade Fire post. Ive only heard of them from SNL when Rainn Wilson [The Office] was the Host.

I read about Scialfa in People magaizine. i didnt really take much interest

Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz from Talking Heads are a pretty cool suggestion. I'm pretty sure they're still together, as a couple, too.

Just because you're living in 1973 doesn't mean everyone else is.

Yes, it was a fine year indeed. Not one, but two Fleetwood Mac albums! :p

Including a few token hipster couples sounds more condescending than anything else. I even found the inclusion of Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull a bit dubious. I mean, I thought they basically f****d a few times and wrote a couple of songs, and that was all.

Oh, and here's another one they omitted: Boy George and Jon Moss!

I wonder what their definition of 'good' is. ;)I'd rather see John McVie & Christine McVie on the list than some of these entries. I don't think their public profile, even back in the early 1970s, is any lower than Ira Kaplan & Georgia Hubley or Win Butler & Regine Chassagne. I guess the fact that only one of them was a songwriter is what makes them an unreasonable entry. Songwriting in rock is always accorded a weird sort of priority (the way Derrida said speech was privileged over writing), even though people have been grooving to the sound of rock bands for fifty years.

Defo. Also Gillian Gilbert and Steve Morris of New Order. The reason why both bands are rhythmically so tight is mainly because of the husband/wife rhythm section.

So in the same breath I'd like to suggest: John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. Time for that wedding photo again.
