I don't know, David. I've always regarded Albondigas as disgusting. ??

My favorite soups are homemade Chicken Noodle (my dad makes a delicious version), and Broccoli Cheddar. B. C. can be quite a problem though. The quality of the soup really varies from place to place.

Tomato's my all-time favorite, followed closely by split pea & ham. Mmm.

I also dig broccoli soup and potato soup.

Um, you know you have to share the recipe now, right? :xoxo: I love me some loaded potato.
the fancy way (I've only done this one once or twice):

3 lbs red potatoes
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
8 cups half-and-half
1 (16 ounce) package Velveeta cheese, melted
white pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/2 lb bacon, fried crisp
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
green onions, chopped, to taste

Dice unpeeled red potatoes into 1/2 inch cubes.
Place in large saucepan; cover with water and bring to a boil.
Let boil for 10 minutes or until 3/4 cooked.
In a separate pan, combine melted margarine and flour, mixing until smooth.
Place over low heat and gradually add half-and-half, stirring constantly.
Continue to stir until smooth and liquid begins to thicken.
Add melted Velveeta.
Stir well.
Drain potatoes and add to cream mixture.
Stir in pepper, garlic powder and hot pepper sauce.
Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Place soup into individual serving bowls and top with crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, green onions and parsley.

the bachelor way:

1 can cream of potato soup
2 cans sliced new potatoes
bacon bits, green onions, shredded cheddar cheese

combine all ingredients and nuke until warmed through.
sprinkle cheese on top and nuke until melted.
sprinkle bacon bits on top

this one works best if you use the "real" bacon bits and not the crispy ones usually used for salads. or you can make your own with fresh bacon. that's really good. the greeeeaaaase adds lots of flavah.

In no particular order...

Chicken noodle
Wonton
Egg drop
Gumbo (mmm...is that a soup, though?)
Clam chowder (red & white)
Baked potato
I had an indian curry type soup in NZ, cant remember the name of it. HOT & spicy!
Tomato soup (with grilled cheese!)
Bean soup (my mom's own concoction of about 10 different kinds of beans)

Hmmm...most of these would be on my list, too (just in a slightly different order...but #1 is the same). #10 wouldn't be anywhere NEAR my list, and I haven't had #5 or #9. Also, would prefer a Chicken Noodle over Chicken/Matzo Ball.

And, really, couldn't #2 also be referred to as "Borscht"?

(My first experience with borscht was in 1982 in Grand Forks, BC when my band was on tour in Canada. Grand Forks is/was a town mostly made up of Ukranian immigrants and US Viet Nam War-era draft dodgers. The hotel we stayed at had a Ukranian restaurant and we just had a great time sampling the culinary delights. The borscht quickly became a staple in my food intake for that week we were there. (Can't remember the Ukranian names for them, but we had these "turnover" type things that were stuffed with cottage cheese and drenched in melted butter; along with the ground beef stuffed cabbage rolls with a marinara type sauce over the top) I think the entire band gained 10 lbs each during that gig.

EDIT: Another of my favorite soups is my wife's Vegetable Beef soup. She usually makes a big crock of it in November and then freezes it to have for those times when we're feeling the effects of a cold or flu; it feels so therapeutic when we're not feeling all that great.

I don't really care for soup.

The only one I can deal with is my mom's potato soup. She makes the best potato soup ever. And even then, I only want it like, once, during the coldest day in winter. On a rare occasion, if my Chinese food comes with it, I'll have one slurp of egg drop soup. But otherwise.. no thanks.

People who eat soup during the summer boggle my mind. I just do not comprehend that. :distress:

J, that potato soup sounds awesome. I'll have to make the fancy version (and buy the makings for the bachelor version if/when I f*ck up the recipe).

My faves:

Tomato Basil
Chicken Noodle
Chicken Wild Rice
Potato
Beer Cheese
Chicken Tortilla

it's so good with french bread. yummy.

I love Chicken Tortilla soup too. McAlisters is a Southern-style deli that was started here and recently was sold into franchising so there may be one popping up near you soon...if so, their Chicken Tort soup is to die for.

I've not had a lot of soup experience. Growing up the only soup I ever experienced was Campbell's Chicken Noodle.

So currently my favorites include:

Egg Drop Soup (it's like crack to me)
Chicken Noodle - but it's gotta be chunky!
Vegetable
I'm a fan of most Progresso soups
Green Chile Chicken stew (homemade - a recipe my sister made up)
Clam Chowder

Wow...that's pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head - I need to branch out in the land of soup.

My homemade Beef and Vegetable soup. Yummy!!!!

I also love Chicken and Noodle soup that comes in those envelopes in a box. It might be the Safeway brand but it's good. lol I ate alot of soup after I had dental surgery and couldn't eat anything else but the soup, jello and pudding for almost a week.
