A co-worker of mine recently introduced me to the theory than we never landed on the moon in 1969. I've been reading some interesting stuff online about. Not really sure what to believe...but I hear they are building some new telescope in 2008 that should be able to put the issue to rest. What do you guys think?
PS...i believe this is my first poll ever on the Ledge!

Where did you read the stuff? I'd like to hear more....before I vote...
I had a high school kid do a research paper on the bombing of Pearl Harbor....that FDR knew the attack was coming.....
The bibliography was interesting .... (I copied that page and tried to read all the books over the summer.) This was back in 1979 - so this kid was before his time.

Was your co-worker repeatedly dropped on his head as a child?

:eek:I find it hard to believe that men landed on the moon in 1969. It's the only conspiracy theory I believe in, so I'm glad you started this.
I cannot be convinced that the standard of engineering in the late sixties or in fact the electronic/metal/plastic components at the time, were good enough to get to the moon. On top of that, there have been some significant developments in the fields of mathematics and physics since 1969 that also make me doubt that they could have done it at the time. The Nasa scientists had the core Physics principles but so many of them behave differently in space and that was not understood til the mid/late 70s. Without boring you to death with my Phd thesis on Thermodynamics, I just don't believe it sorry............. There was an important political reason for the US to get into space first, given the 'cold war', so they faked it for that reason:laugh:
Now I do believe Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK and that no 'flying saucer' ever landed in the Arizona desert...........
....I have had a long day in the sun.................

HAHA...My fiance's brother worked at NORAD for several years and he said he saw stuff that'll make you question a lot things like that. Unfortunately, he can't talk about it in detail.

I think this website provides a startlingly hilarious insight into the cognitive abilities of a person who believes that men never walked on the Moon:

Come on, Stew - we all know it's because they were using alien technology and not our own
Just kidding - but this is a subject that's always fascinated me - but yet one that I've never read up on - if it's a slow day at work today I may change that ;)

..........a significant amount of research has been done in space's low gravity environment on genetic sequencing. In particular how amino acids sequence within proteins. This (American) work is a key component in the development of a human genome (DNA) structure that has allowed medical research to advance so quickly in recent years. It has also paved the way for breakthroughs in forensic science and crime detection. Without the US space programme, this work would have taken much longer.
....I'll skip the 50 paragraphs on the other huge advances across engineering that have improved the way you live your life...........cos I'll sound like some nerd.......
.......imo.........the scientific research undertaken in space has been one of the United States greatest achievements................

but see, that's what I'm saying. we never hear that. all we hear is when a space shuttle is launched, when they must make repairs on some orbiting satellite or when a shuttle crashes.

that's because journalism in america is a ****ing joke.
and i say that as a member of the news media.
however many news channels we have... and they all tell the same stories? like there isn't other **** going on in every other city, in every other state? in other countries? no, it's not possible to report every story that could potentially be interesting to someone - and people have to take responsibility for themselves and seek out their own news of interest - but the scope of coverage is very, very narrow.
like, how they're pounding election 08 primary coverage in our face.. despite the fact that MOST PEOPLE don't even bother to vote in the primaries (which is sickening). each channel is so interested in pushing its own agenda through its coverage that they limit everything else to a 15, 30, or 45 second blurb. :distress:

exactly. my point wasn't that it hasn't done any good (although I see why Stewy read it that way; it was a badly constructed statement), but that we never hear of its actual and continuing impact.

I haven't read enough about this theory to make a conclusion one way or the other. Given the period in time, I don't think it's out of the question.

Ever since I saw the movie Capricorn One as a kid and that planted the idea in my head I've always thought the moon landing was fake.
OJ Simpson was in that...if im not mistaken...
I seriously thought it was real though. It might just be the **** they feed us at school though.

What about all the textbooks that said Pluto was the last planet? I find it amazing they are still discovering things out there.

Pluto is still a planet in my heart :o
After knowing it is for 10 goddam years, they expect me to say all of a sudden 'NOOO its not a planet...its just a meteor [or w/e]..'
Forget that
I dont consider the last one to be a planet now though.
NASA just dissapoints me. :distress: :sorry:

I seriously hope the moon landing happened but I think it's probable it was all faked sadly.

At you least you can pick out murderers when you see em. I always thought OJ was guilty as sin. Kinda karmic now that this Vegas situation has bit him in the arse.

Too true. What an idiot. He probably thought he could get away with anything after the murder and then that awful book. He could get up to 60 years in prison for that robbery.

I voted "no way in hell"
If Americans ever walked on the moon 38 years ago, the place would have been an amusementpark by now. Including a Casino, Best Western and a Taco bell.
That's not the case, so it's a hoax.
Some questions in life are easy to answer. I Know I'm Not Wrong.

There were too many people involved in the Apollo project. If it was a fake, it would be impossible to keep the secret. Yes, there have been rumours, but I think a complete evidence would be easy to find, specially when many people know that something is false.

The majority of my intuition says you're probably right. But if you look at the "coincidental" deaths of all the Apollo I team...that is just plain weird.

I'm so glad that the majority of the vote believes it happened. 'Cause it sure did. These conspiracy theories are rather tired. I suppose a thread about Grey Aliens will post soon. Yawn.
Anyone see the film 'Bug?' Perfect example of paranoia.

I agree. There's too much scientific proof that it happened to consider it a hoax.

I saw two programs about the moon landing and it´s supposedly being hoax.
First one corrected the claimed mistakes like, why there are no stars visible or why the shadow isn´t like it should be.
The other was "documentary movie" with interwievs with the actual persons connected with the moon landing.
On it they tell how the landing was staged and how the people were murdered and silenced to keep the truth from people.
Unfortunately they didn´t take into account the mistakes conspiracy people have noticed.
Simply hilarious program.
