The local classic rock station played a new Eagles song called How Long on the radio this morning and I was blown away. What a good song, sounds as good as anything they did in the 70's. Hope the rest of their new album is as good.

Hey, thank you for the news tdfwiner. I bet L&M, owners of the great fan based Eagles website (they are members here, as well) will be happy to hear it's getting some airplay.

Funny, it should sound like a song from the 70's - it was written by J.D.Souther and released on his record in 1972........

And the band used to play it live for years (from what I've read). It doesn't blow me away, but they do sound good on it.

I mean, compared to Hell Freezes Over. Its not as good as it should be considering how long (no pun intended) they have been out of the scene. Then again, they dont really need to prove anything to anyone do they?

Now who's in the band at this point? Any original Eagles? Henley? Frey? Is Don drumming or did they keep Scott Crago on the kit?

Well, since "HFO" was more of a live greatest hits CD a la The Dance, I'm personally looking forward to a whole CD full of new material. I think "How Long" is a great balance. It's an older but fun tune that they're pulling off 35 years later and still sound fantastic. imo
And, you're right, they really don't have anything to prove.

How Long is very good in that the harmonies are as tight as ever and it is obviously The Eagles old sound slightly updated ..I'm just wondering how much real creative juice the band really has for a double album since the tune was written solely by J.D. Souther and 35 years ago at that..I guess we'll have to see.

I still dont know WHY they kicked Don Felder out. The man was butter on the guitar.
Umm...the group now is Don Henley, Glen Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt

The Eagles to Perform for CMA Awards
Sept. 25, 2007, 9:43 PM EST
The Associated Press
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Eagles will perform during this fall's Country Music Association Awards for the first time, a nod to the success of their new single, "How Long," on country radio.
The song is from the group's first new studio album in 28 years, "Long Road out of Eden," which will be released next month. The single is No. 26 and rising on the Billboard country chart.
"From the early '70s this group has defined country rock, and more than three decades later they are still creating music that resonates with our audience," said CMA chief operating officer Tammy Genovese.
The 41st annual awards show airs Nov. 7 from Nashville on ABC. Other artists scheduled to perform include George Strait, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Keith Urban, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood.
The Eagles share a long kinship with the country music industry.
Their 1975 hit "Lyin' Eyes" reached No. 8 on the country charts, and singer Don Henley was nominated for a CMA award in 1992 for his duet with Trisha Yearwood, "Walkaway Joe." The 1994 tribute album, "Common Thread: The Songs of The Eagles," won CMA album of the year.
The Eagles' new single, which was originally written and recorded by J.D. Souther in the early '70s, fits nicely alongside their country-flavored hits like "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling."
The 20-track album "Long Road Out of Eden" will be released exclusively through Wal-Mart stores on Oct. 30.
The Eagles — Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit — have sold more than 120 million albums worldwide, earning five No.1 U.S. singles and four Grammy Awards. Their "Greatest Hits 1971-1975" is the best-selling album of all time, exceeding sales of 29 million units.

Yeah man...he was AWESOME on Hell Freezes Over. Then they hired some other guy to replace him...who plays realy well...but its like he's just playing the tracks note for note like on the records.

I think the song rocks, as does the original version.
Looking forward to the album, and seeing them live too.

Don Felder was fired from the band in 2001 because he wanted more money and when he didn't get it (because Don H. and Glenn didn't think he deserved it) he caused problems in the band.....like threatening not to show up for the Millennium concert in LA and disrupting recording sessions. So Henley and Frey let him go. As many of you know, Felder then sued them for A LOT of money. A settlement in the case was finally reached a few months ago.
Felder is supposed to have a book coming out in a few weeks, but word is the publisher has put the brakes on it due to "legal issues" (which means Henley, Frey and Azoff have something to do with it. <G>).
If you want the new CD and don't want to get it from WalMart, you can order it from the band's official website, www.eaglesband.com
