How come in the CV DVD she does not mention that the SB video was completly reshot because she did not like how she looked in the Scarlet version? I distinctly remember reading way back then that she was not happy that she looked heavy in the Scarlet version so she was reshooting.

She did say she reshot it because she didn't think the Scarlett version fit with the song. Whether or not she really thought herself too fat, I doubt she'd disclose that now.

I think the Video for Stand Back is so stupid. Everytime I think of it, all I think of are those ridiculous dancers. Good thing the Rock a Little videos kicked ass.

comeon...everyone knows she re-did the vid due to the graphic nature of being gently bucked by that horse.

amen that someone else remembers this besides me! i read this WAYYYY back in 1983 in either People magazine or something similar. Yeah, she was quoted as saying that she thought she looked too heavy and wanted to reshoot it.
So, when was the original Scarlet version shot vs the final? She definately was puffier in the Scarlet version. I seem to recall seeing the final video on MTV in like June of 83.

I heard it from that dark curly haired VJ on MTV. And yes she does look much heavier in the Scarlet version. The Gone With the Wind dress does not help at all, wonder if she had on her platforms under that tent?
She def lost some weight for the reshoot, even her face looks thinner.

But I don't think Stevie was fat at that time. She had a great body at the US Festival 2. She was living on dreams & chains.
Also, I think that the song Sister Honey was inspired by the cool Michael Powell film Black Narcissus.

There is a book that was put out by Rolling Stone in the 80's all about music videos. I don't remember the actual name, something like the Rolling Stone Big Book of Music Videos or something like that. And there was an entire chapter devoted to the making of the first Stand Back video. I almost crapped my pants when I finally got to see it on bootleg some ten years later, and went totally ape when she put a high quality version of it on CV. I wish I still had that book. It was really cool. They interviewed the guys who directed it and they said she scrapped it after seeing the rough cut because she looked too fat in a few of the scenes. Personally, I think she looks really stoned and out of it. And if they hadn't kept shooting her from the ground up she wouldn't have appeared larger than she was.

She looks a little big in the dress but really not bad. I think that worse is she is just not graceful running around in the video. She appears kind of clumsy. She also says in the CV commentary that she just thought the story line and everything looked silly when it was done. I agree. But I'm glad she put it on CV anyway.

I completely understand why she decided not to use the video for a variety of reasons, many of which have already been mentioned. Her second version would have been better if they had hid the treadmill with fog or something so you couldn't see it. Other than that, it's a good video. Regarding the first version, I cringe when she's first goes into her plantation house and opens the metal screen door. Did they have metal screen doors in the 1800's? Don't think so.
