No, I'm talking about That Made Me Stronger or Desert Angel. I'm talking about songs that were either hits when they were released or are well loved by fans.

I have a confession. I can't stand Talk To Me or Seven Wonders. I was in Taco Bell when the former came on and it just reminded me how much I hated that song. I've tried listening to it once every two weeks or so, and I feel like that guy who keeps passing out in a pool of vomit after drinking a six-pack of beer, trying to "acquire a taste" for it. I have the same problem with Seven Wonders. The helium-high, spazzy vocals irritate me to no end. It's like listening to a 16-year old girl on a sugar rush trying to sound like Stevie. Same thing with Talk To Me. I have no idea what happened to Stevie between 1983 and 1985 (or 1987) that made her want to find every flaw in her singing voice and push them to new heights, or why some people actually want to hear her sing like that again. I'm actually glad she can't sing that high anymore!

okay, I was kidding on B&TB, but the others are true.

I don't know. It's not a song you get into and it's not a good way to close the show. Either end the show on a high note or close with a song that everybody knows. Let's also get a new outfit. Fresh, fresh, fresh!

hmmmmm...i'll be with you on possibly not ending with it, but I dont' think it should leave the set.

maybe actually end with edge

UnwindedDreams

Exactly. End with Edge because most of the crowd leaves after it or even before:eek:

I think Landslide would be her best bet for a closer. The Dance version because everybody who I ask at the show what their favorite song is say that she says this is for you Daddy.

well, it wasn't really a hit, but it opens nearly every show...

outside the rain. hate it. bores me.

all the hits, i have loved at one time or another. but at this point, i would probably be happy if i never heard dreams again in my life. and though it pains me to say... rhiannon and gold dust woman. too many shows, too much deja vu.

UnwindedDreams

Gold Dust Woman is another one. It's played all the time on Q104.3 and I'm bored. Dreams is fun and Rhiannon is rockin. Those I get into.

I've never been too keen on Talk to me either . . . t.b.h. I've always considered it to be a "kid's song." Gotta admit, it's not exactly Stevie's most-sophisticated or most-beautiful stuff. :roll eyes:
Exact opposite end of the spectrum for me would be the demo version of Planets of the Universe and [Bella Donna[/I]. 24 Karot Gold too, believe it or not.

Hm, I dunno. I've gotten to where I can't stand her "bellowing" anymore...with the possible exception of The Dance, she has just bellowed, not really sung, since about 1985 or so. It was certainly in full evidence on TOSOTM and everything after that. Blech.

Im getting very sick of Dreams...Ive heard it about 100 too many times on the radio in the past 2 years [yeah even before I became an avid fan I was getting sick of the song  ]

I like Edge, but...the problem is, Its about 2 minutes too long. she mentions 'the white winged dove' about 5 too many times, and the ooh baby oohs get boring fast. Whenever I listen to it I have to fast foward to the next song at about 3 minutes in.

Ditto. I couldn't think of a radio hit of hers I can't get into, she always does OTR in concerts so that is the closest I can think of. It's the notes. They're too in the middle.

I can do without Beauty And The Beast. To hear it once, oh, every 5 years is enough for me, but I don't care for having it close her concert. Well, you can get a head start to the car and get out of the venue a little bit earlier then anticipated.

I was actually glad I didn't have to hear Stop Draggin' My Heart Around or Leather And Lace the last couple of times I saw Stevie.

And as for singing, her voice sounds horrendous on I Sing For The Things and Rock A Little, but especially the former. I know these aren't really well-known, but I can put up with Seven Wonders much more than I Sing For The Things. She sounds like she's on her death bed. It could have been such a great song, if not for those vocals.

i really don't like her solo version of Crystal (and i'm ab-so-lu-te-ly crazy about the BN version)
and i'm getting a bit fed up with Rhiannon and Stand Back.

I love her vocals on I sing for the things and what's wrong with Storms? That song is one of my favourites!

I am loving this thread because I have always been afraid to say anything bad about Landslide, Edge and Stand Back. :o The hardcore fans, casual fans and even those who aren't really FM/Stevie fans seem to love those songs. Esp Landslide. I've asked about three causal fans what FM song did they like and they all said Landslide. Now don't get me wrong, I don't dislike or hate either of those songs. I like them but just never loved them as much as most do.

I would also add Steven Wonders and SDMHA. I wouldn't say they were bad songs at all but they have never been on my favorite list. The only thing I love about SDMHA was the video.

I know these aren't exactly hits but on my total dislike list would be I Sing For The Things and The Highwayman. Her vocals were awful on ISFTT. It made her work on Tango sound great and Highwayman is just a dull song IMO.

Now after listing that it makes me wonder if I am really a fan or not

I was with you 100% until the I Sing For The Things part. I didn't care for her vocals at all. That's one Stevie song I will always skip. I also loveeee the BN version of Crystal along with the White Album version. I just love hearing Lindsey sing lead with Stevie blending in on the chorus. I didn't care for Stevie singing lead.

Storms is also a big favorite of mine :D

And as for singing, her voice sounds horrendous on I Sing For The Things and Rock A Little, but especially the former.

I actually like RAL. Its certainly not her best vocals but I just like the vibe of the song.

Wow, I could not disagree more. I absolutely love “Talk To Me”, not her best vocal but the song is joyous. I have to admit, it did take me some time to like “Seven Wonders” but after all of these years, I think a lot of fans have come to really enjoy this song. It’s on my list of Stevie songs that are fun and upbeat. And as far as her vocals, I find “Seven Wonders” to be one of her strongest vocals ever. There was something very powerful and sexy about Stevie’s vocals during the Tango era, and that is especially evident on the remixes of Big Love and Family Man. Stevie came out of Betty Ford feeling great obviously and it showed in her vocal delivery on Tango. And bite your tongue on the suggestion that fans don’t like “Desert Angel.” :p

Ok ok, I do know a lot of fans don’t like it, but I will never understand why. The music is beautiful and her vocals on that tracks are some of her most passionate ever.

I certainly agree that Stevie should "freshen" up future live shows however, I don't think Beauty and the Beast works anywhere else in the set but the end. It's so deep and intense; I think it has more of an impact that way being the last song. When Stevie did it in the middle of the set during some shows in 2005, it simply wasn't the same for me; it's definitely a closing song.

Thanks for posting that. I've never heard it before (new with demos) and I can honestly say the demo is better than the album version. Maybe if she had of used that I would have liked the song a little more. I just recently starting getting into demos and I am becoming annoyed. Stevie had some wonderful demos that were perfect until they're put on her albums.

well, you have to keep in mind that a lot of it is the producer's fault (fault not being the right word) - she gives/plays them the demo, as good as it sounds to us, they take it and do their thing. or they may have never thought, hey, this demo is fine like it is...you know. I agree that sometimes the demos are better, but that's just one small part of ~*forever*~

although, I love no questions asked, i don't really think it's a "fan favorite" and def wasn't a "hit".Oops. I missed that part. I shouldnt have. SOrry about that.

well, you have to keep in mind that a lot of it is the producer's fault (fault not being the right word) - she gives/plays them the demo, as good as it sounds to us, they take it and do their thing. or they may have never thought, hey, this demo is fine like it is...you know. I agree that sometimes the demos are better, but that's just one small part of ~*forever*~

I know exactly what you mean. I understand that the producer has a lot to do with that as well. I just wasn't total clear when I mentioned being annoyed.

I love Stevie's vocals on Tango! I love all of Stevie's voices through the years! You have the voice from 1975-1978 then the 1979-1981 voice, then the 1982 voice, then the 1983-1984 voice, then the 1985-1986 voice, and so on. Each year (or every other year) her voice did some changing...And I have always liked each change.
