That sounds fun, and I assume you'll be wearing your skates to this event. If not, you won't be taking advantage of the full experience. Just saying.
clearly, any plans I had were thwarted, and I am relegated to my house, thinking talking on the ledge is fun. It is fun, but it isn't swimming in Chico, is it? It isn't debauched drunken Chico nights flirting with random boys and talking to strange people about drunken things, is it?
No. But i'm making the best of it.
I certainly hope everyone else has a lot of fun. I'd like to harken this back to my post in the Owen Wilson thread regarding money, and the happiness it can buy. Just saying. Although I am still happy right now, I just could be happier.

not only are you missing out on all THAT, my son-in-law's band (La Fin Du Monde) is playing in the Chico Park tonight. 8pm. My daughter is trying to finagle me to go. Of course, my friend from the Bay hasnt gotten here yet (there's your answer Dre) so I dont know WHAT Im doing. We may just get blotto and say the heck with Chico on a hot summer night! My pool calls to me. the one that has water up to my chin if I sit in it. I have nice little foam boogie board things that I can place my drink of choice on, and just bask in the evening sunset. Or not. I may give in to guilt and go to Chico. for the 3rd time today. Sigh. we'll see...

Lazy weekend. I got a lot of sleep last night which I needed. Did some running around today, looked at some new homes, did some shopping. Went to the mall and saw my little friend David.
No real plans. Going bowling tomorrow with my girls and Bobby. Speaking of Bobby, he might be having a pool party on Monday, just depends on the weather. If he does, I'll be there!
Have a BLAST in New York and at XANADU!! That sounds fantastic!!

Sure not a television person, so thank God for the musical goodies I have, Not to mention I am still learning my away on this HP Pavilion laptop.

Very cool. I worked in radio for seven years. Two of those seven, I was the producer and talent for a top 40 morning show. Having to be up at 3:30AM, find the days news stories and create 8 funny bits to spread about your shift became exhausting. PLus, I absolutely hated the music (which was why I got into radio in the first place).
I think the news division would be much less stressful.

i do all that stuff. i've done just about everything there is to do here. it's a family owned group (not my family, just a local family), so those of us who have been loyal get all kinds of duties dumped on us that other stations would normally hire part timers to do.
i hate the music we play, except for our oldies station. we have the most bomb-ass oldies station anyone could ever hope to have (our library of music is RIDICULOUS because our music director is an audiophile, literally).. but instead of giving it a shot, they keep a struggling country trash station on autopilot on our FM frequency all the time and keep the oldies on a cruddy AM frequency. SIGH. we've lobbied the bosses for change, but when it comes down to it, i think they just don't want to pay to have new stickers, etc printed.. the van re-vinyled, etc. bummer.

I dont know what the news segments are like where you guys are from but we get a whopping 2 minutes TOPS. More like 1.5 minutes of soundbites, and commercials. I dont get my news from the radio, unless its Public Broadcasting, because it doesnt even last as long as a SONG does

we are very community based. lots of our liners bill us as the stations where "the news comes first" .. and we will break programming at any time of the day for breaking news.
i get as much time for my newscasts as i need, provided that i have ample time to play the paid-for commercials and other programming, like network national news.
i had a lot of **** to talk about last week... one day my hard news cut was like, 7:45.

I can't believe you don't know about such an important european holiday named in your honor. It's like Bastille day, but not as French, and way funner. Cause you have minions. Vanessaminions.

It is a lifetime. But not compared to the 17:10 in-depth special feature that aired Monday morning. My boss never gives me assignments, but last Friday, he was like.. "you know what I think would be cool? if you..."
we've had a very serious drought/heat wave situation.. and this particular area is feeling effects in so many different, negative ways. it was actually interesting to produce, because i had some great interviews from everyone from like.. public utilities, to farm service agencies, to river monitoring stations, etc.. and after it aired, i had a bunch, bunch, bunch of calls asking for even MORE information about different things like low-income energy assistance/air conditioning purchasing programs, crop testing, grant money available to farmers ('cuz they have like, 70% crop losses, no ****).. all kinds of stuff. in a way, this is a thankless job because you're out there saying so much to people who - unless they pick up the phone or shoot you an e-mail - can't talk back. so direct feedback like that was very, very rewarding. i'm not going to make it a regular thing, but you get what i'm saying.

You obviously love what you do, so that, in itself, is a wonderful thing.
I understand what you are talking about in terms of feedback. When I had a 5pm - 10pm show, I loved to go out to clubs afterwards. When someone would say, "Hey Bruce, you were playing some awesome music earlier", or something like, "That was a great interview you had with Concrete Blonde", that always made my night. Cause sometimes you arent sure anyones listening, ya know?
Where are you, by the way? It's so strange to hear about drought - which is normally what we are in this time of year. Im in Texas and this is the first summer in decades where we have had rain. A LOT of rain. It's crazy.

i do enjoy the line of work, even if i get tired of the country radio station crap. it gives me the flexibility i require... dresscode, schedule, etc.
i'm in the eastern portion of tennessee, on the border with north carolina. in a valley of the appalachian mountains... the smokies.
we've been in a drought all year, really. we're 12 inches below total rainfall for the year. august's normal rainfall is 3.75 inches, we got .51 inch. no ****. the grass is crunchy.. some trees are already browning up and dropping leaves. it's quite sad.
i haven't been a DJ in a few years. it's not that i don't like it.. but i'm not a good faker. i'd like to DJ at a station that actually plays music i enjoy. i think it'd be rad to work for sirius... i am in LOVE with sirius satellite radio. <3

OMG - that would be one of my top 3 dream jobs. I am a SIRIUS junkie. I dont even listen to terrestrial radio anymore. I am hooked on channel 26 (Left Of Center) and channel 21 (Alt Nation). And then I zoom around the other 120 something channels they offer. LOVE LOVE LOVE SIRIUS!!

it kicks xm's ass, does it not?
if i had to estimate the channels that i listen to the most in order, i'd say...
35 chill
area 33
boombox 34
outq 109
punk 29
6 - 60's vibrations
classic vinyl
classic rewind
..then i flip through the rest. but most times, i don't make it past 35 chill. i am in love with it.
and some of my favorite dj's.. van dyke, oakenfold, & icey to name a few.. have their own shows certain nights of the week. how awesome is that?

I'm having one hell of a weekend! I took a half day at work Friday and went to Projekt Revolution. Today I had a huge BBQ, and I don't think everyone was gone until 3:30 this morning. I have a few people sleeping on the couch... Tomorrow I'm going to recoup because I can't sleep and I've been drunk off my ass. Monday I'm taking the girls to the US Nationals. Drag cars. I don't really care too much for it, but one of the girls wanted to go, and there's nothing else to do, so I might as well go!

i loved it!!!~ way more gore than the 1st, the 1st really just alluded to the gore, where as this shows it~ it is a remake of the original Halloween that starred jamie lee~ but it gives more of a backstory as to why michael is the way he is, even makes you sympathize w/ him somewhat:shrug:~ tho the original is 1 of my all time favorite scary movies~ i liked this remake~ it wasn't as brutal or i guess depraved as some of rob zombies other movies such as the devil's rejects~ tho rob did cast his wife as michael's mother & i'm sorry that girl can't act~ but malcolm macdowell (*sp) was good as dr loomis~

I'm not really into glamouuuurrr-ized gore, so no thanks on Halloween. I'm really not into horror movies. Mind ****s are okay, but just straight up hacking... naw.
Tonight I am having a party for one. (Plus my little dog, Lily.) It's always so nice to have the whole place to yourself. Even more so, considering that a lot of my co-workers are off this week, so work is chillin' too. And, two meetings that I would have been forced to go to this week were cancelled. Ahhh.
Today was kind of the bomb. It's time to celebrate with good beer night. No pisswater allowed.

She was talking about people in the south dogfighting... I gotta say, I know there are cockfighting pits, but dogfighting in this area really is unheard of I think. I mean, if they would go so far as to bring in the FBI over cockfighting (which, we just had 5 guys sentenced last week for it), you'd think they'd do the same over dogfighting. It is never in the news here. As far as I'm aware, she's just dead wrong about the south as a whole having a cultural thing for it. Maybe some small areas or groups of people do, but it isn't an all over thing.
There's no defense for it. Cultural or not, racial or not. It's absolutely disgusting.
