This is bound to stir up some **** on the board, but then again, what hasn't? I'm just wondering something, because with all the younger kids on here now, I was curious if this new "generation" of FM fans is as bad as those of us who came along from 1997-2003. Veteran Ledgies, you still stickin' it to the man? Newer Ledgies, are you proudly following in our footsteps? Either way, I want to know.

This will be an anonymous poll; if you feel like elaborating, be my guest. NO ASSHOLERY, EITHER. I don't wanna hear it. If you want to feel my wrath, fine, but like Sarah said, I eat babies. You don't mess with a chick who eats babies.

That being said, my question for all Ledgies... Do you hit the head? Smoke the tree? Insert other clever euphemism for smoking weed?

I'll Elaborate.
Ive never tried it, dont know if I'd ever want to or not.
In My opinion, if somebody does it, its thier own bussiness, and I could really care less if somebody wants to do it. It doesnt make you any less of a person.

I think, that overall, Pot is the least harmful of all of the 'illeagal' drugs, and if I were to do a drug, I think it would be my drug of choice. But Id only do it at home in my basement, a la That 70s Show. The only time I even disrespect someone for doing that stuff, is when kids are doing it at school, during school hours, just because everyone makes a big deal out of it, and it just gets annoying how people think it makes them cool for doing it at school.

my philosophy on it is -do it if you please, but do it on your own time, in private.

I began smoking pot in my younger, rebellious days.
I continue it out of my belief that it does have spiritual and medicinal qualities.

I smoke in cycles. I'll smoke fairly heavily and frequently for, say, a week or two. Then maybe I won't smoke at all for a week or two. Or, I may smoke one time a day, every day for a long period of time. I don't believe in wasting grass or smoking more than it takes.

I have very, very strong beliefs about it, actually, and I would consider myself an activist. A few of my friends in the "more legal states" actually are medical growers or associated with medicinal marijuana clinics. They are very well educated, traveled, and seasoned individuals, and the stories they have to tell are incredibly touching. I think it's a damn shame that this government - the government of the prozac nation - encourages citizens to cram pill after pill down their throats, even warning that they "may cause unpleasant side effects, such as FALLING ASLEEP WHILE DRIVING", yet a plant... that grows in practically every part of the world and has been used in treatments for thousands and thousands of years... is "wrong" and "illegal". What the **** you?

As I mentioned in another thread, I have an anxiety disorder. Truthfully, marijuana is the only "substance" (i hate calling it that.. it's a plant!) that helps me chill out without turning into a freaking zombie-fied form of myself.

I could go on for years. THIS is my primary topic of sociopolitical concern. If you can't legalize it, decriminalize it, and stop throwing stoners in jail with mandatory sentences and letting violent offenders out on parole!

I do not smoke very much at all (2-3x per year), but I used to love it. I waited a long time to try it too, which was 25. In my late 20's, I couldn't get enough of it.

Similar to Sarah's post, I'd like to see the day when I go to my grocery produce section and see pot available, just like any other herb.

On edit, I'd rather people smoke weed than drink alcohol. I find alcohol to be the worst of the two "evils."

Oh, and I'd just like to add, that if you'll do a little research, you'll learn that it was only made illegal because of corruption, racism, and ignorance.

"Marihuana influences Negroes to look at white people in the eye, step on white men's shadows and look at a white woman twice."

"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."

"...the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."

"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."

"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."

"Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing"

"You smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother."

"Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind."

And, it remains illegal today for, yet again, corrupted reasons: 1. big tobacco doesn't want it legal and 2. bureaucrats won't have a job anymore if they run out of people to "punish" or "treat". And, now, thanks to the wonders of D.A.R.E. and Reagan's "War on Drugs" (which has increased overall drug usage by an estimated 80 percent) the government has SUCCESSFULLY CONVINCED YOU that it was RIGHT to make it WRONG. Be proud, America... they are looking out for you!

And, you know, that's just talking about smoking it. Nevermind the fact that hemp was a valuable crop for hundreds of years and sustained many, many farms/plantations when America was first colonized. Nevermind the fact that hemp could be a valuable crop for farmers NOW who are otherwise suffering as they try to compete worldwide. Nevermind the fact that hemp has shown promise as a biofuel for more than 100 years. And, nevermind the fact that hemp could be used for paper products instead of whacking down trees.

Ignorance. We are consumed by it.

And, I'd also like to add a disclaimer that I don't think everyone should smoke it or use it. I just think people need to STFU about it being wrong, when they have no evidence that it's wrong other than the government says so. It's just like anything else... not for everyone. Some people see no effect. Some people let paranoia (because of legality and social stigma) affect them more than the high, and that's not good. It really is just a shame anytime - when it comes to something dealing with your own body and mind - you're forced to feel bad, hide it, or whatever.

p.s. carrie, you just need some good weed. :P

I put every once in awhile, but actually it's more rare than that.

I havent' smoked it in a few years. it's the only illegal drug i've tried or will ever try. I actually enjoy it (although the last time i did it i had a bad experience) and I wish it were legal.

I agree with the people who say it is a MUCH safer drug than alcohol, but with anything, it's not without it's consequences. there is no way I would ever be able to drive or do..really anything while completely stoned. I'm sure there are some people who do just like those who drive drunk.

I enjoyed doing it either in the comfort of my own home (or friend's home) or at concerts was always nice.

but right now while on this diet, I don't need anything that's gonna give me the "munchies"

I've never smoked it and never wanted to (though I've had some contact highs at concerts and such). I hate it; the smell makes me nauseous and I can't stand to be around anyone who is smoking or who smells like it. Same goes for tobacco.

i'm the same way. i don't like to eat when i get stoned, cuz it weakens the effect for me.

but i get drunk munchies like freakin crazy. (i'm proud of myself, i haven't had a drink in almost a week. i've decided to try to quit drinking for the most part again.)

and that makes me kind of sad vicky, but i respect your opinion. i love the way it smells. different strains smell differently... but i love the piney, woodsy smell. ahhhh.

Nah, I have never tried it but every person in my family has smoked it...

Thus rendering the opening lyric of the Merle Haggard's song "Okie From Muskogee" inaccurate - "We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee..." (Yeah right, my family opened the market in Muskogee for pot, c'mon man!!!) :D

Sarah

and it actually is very effective medically -
arthritis, migraines etc.

it's practically limitless medicinally speaking. there are many people being treated with it, and they don't get "stoned".. each strain has different cannabinoids, and different combinations of them produce different effects. we like to get stoned off the THC, but many patients don't want to be stoned.. they want the anti-inflammatory properties, or something to promote an appetite, or anything else, really. many don't even smoke it, instead opting for tinctures of whatever active "ingredient" they seek. :)

it's taboo to say it, but there is a bit of evidence that cannabis (especially in form of oil) was used in Jesus' healings. And really, I don't think that's outside the scope of possible reality.

And funnily enough, the Bible predicts a good herb's prohibition:

… And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. (Genesis 1:29-31)

God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth.…To you it will be for meat."

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times, some shall … speak lies in hypocrisy … commanding to abstain from meats which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (Paul 1 / Timothy 4:1-3)

Ahhh.. Research. The Weapon of Mass Awareness. ;)

I've been in "hot box's" many a time, but never have actually smoked it myself. I'm not a fan of the smell, but it definitely doesn't bother me when people smoke it. Except for my idiot younger sister of course. Also, I don't really like the idea of intentionally ingesting smoke, so I've told my weed-chef friends, if they want me to get high with them, they better make me some damn good Butter Cookies.

By the way, if you all want the "recipe" for the best "Butter Cookies" you've ever had, I'm sure I can hook you up.

Interesting you automatically seem to assume he was referring to it from the social aspect, and not health wise- because only an idiot would suggest that marijuana use is more harmful to the body than alcohol, especially over a sustained period of time.

i know exactly what you mean. see, with my brain, the problem that i have is lack of clarity because i constantly jump from thought to thought, worry to worry. the grass helps me slow down a bit and actually, yknow, finish one thought before moving on to the next. so i like to keep a little journal handy and write... the problem with that is that my handwriting is crap when i'm stoned. maybe if i can train the sides of my brain to work in tandem every time.....

that is the best.. because it's like, at first you're leaning towards getting kind of sad about it, like you wasted money on crappy weed and got your hopes up for nothing.. and then, it hits, and everything is better. it's like you're twice as happy as you normally would have been.

on another board that i frequent, there's a thread for "random things friends say when they're stoned". it is the funniest stuff i have ever read.. and you can tell some of these people are pot philosophers, too. there are, of course, the resident stoner idiots.. but hey. every group has its idiots.

I am the exact same way! I smoke to unwind from my busy mind.

Just recently, I started acupuncture treatments to see if it would help calm my sweaty hands. And let me tell you, it sure helps calm the mind. I have never in my life felt so relaxed. Its like I'm in a constant meditative state. Daydreaming, if you will.....lol....Been doing some deep thinking!

I would like to try acupuncture at some point (no pun intended) if I can get un-afraid. I don't think there's a suitable place to have it done around here, anyway, though.

He has never put them on my face. He puts them in my palms, and the area between my thumbs and index fingers, lower ankle region, and sometimes elbow area. The last visit he did my neck and spine. When he swabs the areas with alcohol he always swabs areas on my face, but has never stuck me there yet. not sure whats up with that.. It really doesnt hurt!

I agree with the people who say it is a MUCH safer drug than alcohol,

As my old boss used to say "I've never heard of any guy getting stoned off his ass and beating the **** out of his wife, but alcohol?? MmmHmm..."

Not to say that never happens - but my bosses view was brought forth in my memory thanks to this thread.

I smoke it occassionaly - but actually haven't in about a year now. I've known some big time pot heads (and dated a few) in my day and when it gets to that level I pretty much want nothing to do with it - I will never ever again date a pot head...

But the occassional toke? I love it.

And I get the munchies big time. Mostly because everything just tastes so damn good while high.

This sounds intriguing, I'd love to hear more about it.

Wait...just let me get a little hiiiiiiiiii, I know I'll remember (insert Towly voice).

Let me just say this: My house would never, ever, ever, ever be clean if I didn't smoke. EVER! I would also never do important paperwork, apply for jobs, or almost any other boring task required by day to day living. Homework, painting my toenails, anything. Also, playing video game or watching Smallville and South Park would be just a little less exciting.
However - like Sarah I tend to space it out, on and off. It loses it's effectivosity as an agent of non laziness for me if I don't take breaks.
Also, let us all not forget that it IS very bad for your lungs, and so I recommend that if you are pretty serious about the whole thing that you invest in a vaporizer smoker thingie. Yep, good ol' smokey - dulling down my mind just enough to deal with the hopeless non imaginative drudgery that the real world requires. Yay.

Waaannn gehhh hiiiiii???

Oh, I forgot to mention the other bad part, the part where it thwarts my efforts to become a non fatass. Weak, hella weak. Luckily, I'm still foxy, but I could be way foxier. They need to invent a non-munchy-juana. Also, of course, does not have the most socializing effect on me. As in, I can't really talk much on it.

P.S. Acupuncture rocks, doesn't hurt, and does make you dreamygood.

Maybe once a year. Twice at most. I never buy it and I rarely get the urge to actively seek it out. I like to have a couple of glasses of wine under my belt before I smoke some, though.

Last time I did was a few months back at the Morrissey concert in Austin. And even then, it was offered to me. Two young girls kept pinching my ass and I would turn around and they would laugh. About the third time, I said, "Girls, I'm a fag!". And they laughed and said, "We dont care! You are cute and have a nice ass!". So, the next thing I knew, they pulled out a joint and shared it with me. I suddenly had a really nice buzz going on! Then they said goodbye and I completely enjoyed my Morrissey show.

I have no problems with pot. I think it's ridiculous that it's outlawed.

Also, let us all not forget that it IS very bad for your lungs, and so I recommend that if you are pretty serious about the whole thing that you invest in a vaporizer smoker thingie.

I hated it, but when I was about 15 or 16, I tried a Yuengling and I ~fell in love~. lol. I'm a filthy drunken whore, what can I say? No, I prefer getting stoned over drinking. I can't do both at the same time, either, because I just become so ****ed up that I can't function, period. So it's one or the other.

&.. anyone else smoke menthol cigarettes after smoking a bowl? It keeps the high going, imo.

can't get yuengling where i live. :( but, i will go ahead and say.. I LOVE BEER!!!! i freakin' love it. i love the crispness.. the taste.. everything about it really. i like lagers, pilsners, and ales the best. had some great microbrew lager this evening. perfect for a muggy day. and like you, kate, i cannot (can.not) drink and smoke in tandem anymore. used to, when i was really really effed all the time, it was no thang.. but now that i've experienced periods of sobriety in between my vices, i can't handle the two together anymore unless i'm at home. at home, it's okay to fall up the stairs. at home, it's okay to lose your pants. and at home, it's okay to speak an alternate form of the english language that apparently only you, yourself can understand.

i would predict that at some point in my life, i'll give up the alcohol. i find myself slowing down on it more and more all the time. if not in frequency of consumption, then in amount per consumption, if that makes sense. i quit doing blow all together, and i quit taking pills. but i have no reason to quit smoking. i won't have children, but if i did, i'd let them smoke at home at a reasonable age, if for no other reason than to make sure they were safe when they experimented, cuz they'd likely do it anyway.

& yes.. before i quit smoking cigarettes... menthol after pot definitely has something going for itself. i always smoked menthols anyway. my ritual was menthol, then a stick of wrigley's spearmint gum. bowl/menthol/spearmint. in that order. ahhh, minty.

I do on a pretty regular basis. I did stop for 5 months this year when I was looking for a new job. This after I failed the drugtest for a potential job I thought I was going to get. That was probably the longest that I have gone without getting high in about 20 years.

i did quit smoking the menthols (and all cigarettes) tho. they're a waste of lungpower for me since i don't get stoned off 'em.

A) Ah, you obviously haven't seen my picture. :p:shocked::eek:
B) That is now on the top of my "most coveted item" list, not to mention my "things to hide when I go into concerts or really anywhere" list, and my "Oh my god if I do not own that my world will end" list.
C) What is the category for being attracted to small, cute, shiny, ubercool devices? Dorkosexual? Gadgetracted?
D) Very cool you quit smoking. I'm still off and on. It's pretty much impossible for me to drink and not smoke.

B) i need it as well. most convenient paraphernalia ever.
C) parapherphiliac? i reached a bit too far on that one.
D) i never developed a strong nicotine addiction. the desire to smoke cigarettes for me, i believe, was just the result of having a physical apparatus that made me STOP STRESSING AND TAKE A DEEP FREAKIN' BREATH FOR ONCE. plus, i just don't like stinking like cigarettes. weed smell goes away pretty quickly. cig stank lingers.

You're about too, and course I was joking, as I'm not the sexiest anything on any side of the anything.
And, yes, and thus I have never changed my avatar. It has not just the bonus of "yourassyourassyourassyourass" forever, but yelling stevie is the sexy stevie.

That is great. And of course "they" recommend deep breathing for everyone, every day, as a way to cure what ails ya. I do yoga. True about the stank. But hey, I'm italian, I stank anyways. Although I'm not sure pot smell goes away sooner. Not like I'm a scientist, but...every day I bike ride to work through dt oakland, and it's so funny - the blocks alternately smell of doobistank and urine. (random observation).

Would it be cheaper if it were legal?

Would it be cheaper if it were legal?I can only speak from what I know goes around here. Coffeeshops are regulated by the government, which means that all shops have to abide by certain rules, that includes the selling price of marihuana. In countries where it's illegal, and thus harder to get, everyone that grows it can set their own price, which is higher than what it sells for now.

And because of how expensive it is in other countries is exactly why people (illegally) grow large amounts here. You can make a lot of money selling it in surrounding countries.

It would probably help the economy here to legalize it since users would have more disposable income. It would also be something to ease the burden of the working poor here, some probably use it just to get through the day. Although I know they're not the only class to use it of course.

Every once in awhile i will/have. I've not smoked since March of this year. Its few and far between when I do. I smoked every other day when I was in college from 98-2000. I find, for the most part, that it saps you of creativity and it makes you a drone. A lot of people think it does otherwise, but I think its strips your core of any motivation. You end up becoming lazy, and while you sure can think up grand ideas, you tend to never follow thru with anything.

Sarah
09-10-2007, 11:15 AM
Would it be cheaper if it were legal?

You know, I don't know. I think it could go either way. Cheaper because of availability of quantity, or more expensive because it's taxed to hell and back. If it was legalized, I'd grow anyway... it's more rewarding and you get exactly what you want.

The other problem with legalization is the potential for the quality to go down, because you'll have a whole bunch of people who don't really know what they're doing just cranking out mass quantities of substandard grass.

I just wish it'd become decriminalized to the point where people aren't getting jailed on possession charges. Keep other drugs illegal. Keep "manufacture" and trafficking illegal, fine. But if someone isn't hurting anyone else, they don't need to be pushed through the system and tossed in the clink for a mandatory sentence.
