So, Stevie contributed, in my opinion, 9 classic songs to this album. Which one is your favorite? Mine kind of varies, and honestly I love them all, but at the moment, it's Running Through The Garden
Much Love,

I cant beleive you made me choose between RTTG, TD, and GB...I even adore Destiny Rules. I picked RTTG because of the TD single mix I love, Im able to live without DR, and GB makes me cry too much :)
You should have made it least favorite...that would be so much easier....

What, Silver girl? I don't know why this song gets so much flak. It's a great song.... Or at least I think so, but then again, I love all of Stevie's songs.

No, its not that I personally hate it, its just my least favorite on SYW. Its not because of the lyrics, its because of the melody, it just makes me not like it as much as say-RTTG [oh do you have the demo Ethan, it is amazing!], Thrown Down, or even Smile At You [again, I like the angry demo better than here, but I still like it on SYW].
One of my petpeevs about Everybody Finds Out, is that Linds sings in the chorus, the 'i know he loves me....'etc. Its just it makes him sound...colorful in words.... she should have just sang it alone, and on SYHA she shouldnt have sang. but i still Love both of those songs

TD because it is close to flawless and souds most like a FM song to me. Linds soft guitar strokes as always are ever so cool esp against Stevie's vocals.

I don't feel any of her songs today will ever reach a plateau like Gold Dust because she won't play any of them in concert. It really takes a few rounds of touring for those songs to truly come alive.
I don't really like Illume because there aren't enough chord changes. That doesn't lend much variety to the vocal.

My main gripe with her SYW songs is that they should have been transposed to a key that better fit her range. Almost everything sounds ragged and flat to my ears. She had a big problem with Say You Will -- the song Say You Will, as Stevie would say -- on stage until the band finally transposed it for the second half of the SYW tour, and it sounded much better. So I think all of her SYW songs had the potential to be amazing, but most were poorly arranged. Lindsey's production work, which I call "Lindsey's revenge," doesn't help her songs either.

Post! Post! Please!:blob2: I have enjoyed Illume from the second i heard it. It is her most now-and-modern-rock-sounding song (aside from maybe fall from grace, or POTU) in YEARS. Its very cool. I can allways play that one for my friends who are into alot of the now bands, and it ALLWAYS gets respect.
yes, if shed actually do it live, and really mean the words, ect. it could be epic. it has all of the elements of stevie that i love. Mystic stevie, lyrical deep stevie, and it works well with her current range.
AND! Illume candles really are FREEKING AMAZING smelling. they induce INSTANT CALM.  I LOVE THEM.

I love Running Through The Garden, it´s best SYW song! Most of Stevie´s songs on SYW album are very similar, but this not.
It´s a pity, that RTTG wasn´t released earlier, it would be better I think, sometimes in RAL or TOSOTM era. I know version from RAL Demos, but it´s not high-quality like official released songs on albums.

It is a really incredible song...Jf she did it live, I'd want it to be completely acapella until she hits the line "Like a diamond snake in a black sky," where I want John to come in on bass ONLY until she hits the chorus and then Lindsey comes on some kick ass guitar, and back to acoustic when she gets back to the second stanza.
Here are the demos:

I don't think anyone would think twice today about Outside the Rain if it hadn't been used as an opener for awhile (& a semi-opener before that). Doing it live for so long raised it to mythic significance in the views of fans (well, you know what I mean). So now we all think, "What a great Stevie classic."

exactly. that's why I picked EFO. I do think, though, that the production is perfect. I wouldn't have had that weird vocoder thing at the beginning, but otherwise, it's perfection. I love the strings, the harmonies, the vocal, the lyrics...love it.

EFO is just perfection, as is Thrown Down. Those two are on the top of my list, followed closely by Illume and RTTG. Destiny Rules is fairly high up there, especially because of the lyrics (we'll forget the repetitiveness for a second) and would have been higher had the vocal sounded a little more inspired, not like she was reading from the phone book.

I honestly kind of surprised that Smile at you hasn;t gotten a vote.
Oh and also, I just noticed this a couple of days ago on Smile at you, Toward the end, while she's doing the bridge (the "what you did not need was a lady who was stronger) at the end of that little bit when she says smile at you twice, the second one is almost a capella and I really like the sound of her voice there.
Another thing I noticed a couple of days ago is right at the end of EFO, when it is starting to fade, I think it is about at 4:21, there is a little bit more of a syncapated bass riff, and I LOOOOVE it!!!!!
Anyway, just my two cents.

Declawed is the best word I can use to describe it. It was an angry song and should have stayed that way. At the risk of sounding juvenile (and I am a little drunk at the moment), I really hate the SWY version. It sounds completely and utterly stupid. The ah-ha's are the worst part of the song.

At the risk of sounding juvenile (and I am a little drunk at the moment), I really hate the SWY version. It sounds completely and utterly stupid. The ah-ha's are the worst part of the song. It's a throwaway Fleetwood Mac track, only it never got thrown away. If someone had played it for me without telling me FM had orchestrated & recorded it, & told me that Stevie recorded it with a bunch of whoevers playing & producing, I'd have believed him. I'd have thought the explanation made perfect sense, because it doesn't treat the sonic field the way Fleetwood traditionally does so.
Like most people with happily firing musical ideas, Lindsey miscalculates every so often. This is all my opinion. He misfires on the SYW album particularly on the engineering landscape (which blame also belongs to some other cooks) & also in his treatment of Stevie's singing voice. It's puzzling because he's always been so good with it before. At this stage of her life, she's very nasal. It sometimes sounds as if she were using her sinus cavities for reverb. From an engineer's point of view, that's the last quality you want to exaggerate in recording this person's vocals, but that's what Lindsey does on several tracks: Smile At You, Everybody Finds Out, Destiny Rules, Illume, etc. Why does he apply that hyperelectronic-sounding flange or phasing to her, thereby exaggerating those qualities in her voice that I'd think he -- & she -- would want covered up? (I sometimes think he & the engineers are trying to channel Rupert Hine.) Maybe his program is to rub our faces in this flaw, i.e. to treat the "flaw" as a strength or to alter our perception of it, kind of the way he records his drums on earlier solo projects -- to find the beauty in the degraded?
Whatever his thinking -- & I'm sure it was all conscious -- I think it's a major miscalculation. The sound of Stevie's vocals on this album are closer to the OSOTM album than any other Mac project ever was, & I bet the fans who loves this Mac album the most also love "Mirror" the most of the solo albums.

Also for me is very difficult to choose at least among five songs, but I go with Destiny Rules. It has a classic taste and a minimal nuance in the lyrics that always win me over. And it becomes a quite emotional duet at the end.

I voted for "Destiny Rules" because I think it's the summary track on the album (appropriately named documentary), because of Lindsey's Marr-ish guitar playing and because of Stevie's impassioned vocals/lyrics. . . and because of the way it ties in the beautiful "Illume" with the rest of the album. That said: I could have easily sided with "Everybody Finds Out" (the strings at the end!), "Running Through the Garden" (which might just be Stevie's most palpable(?) metaphor since "Landslide"), and, of course, the classic "Thrown Down" which, for me, might just be the new "Gypsy" . . . and that's a good thing.

Hands down, 'Everybody Finds Out' for me. Not for the production/engineering (there's about a million things that bother me about that), but the songwriting and emotion.
