Well well well...just in time for election season.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Karl Rove, U.S. President George W. Bush's senior political adviser, is to resign at the end of August, CNN has confirmed.

Rove, who has held a top position in the White House since Bush took office in January 2001, is to stand down on August 31.

"I just think it's time," Rove told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). "There's always something that can keep you here, and as much as I'd like to be here, I've got to do this for the sake of my family."

He told the newspaper that he would leave Washington to return to Texas and that he had first suggested the idea of leaving a year ago.

However a series of problems for the Bush administration, starting when the Democrats took control of Congress and then as immigration and the Iraq war topped the agenda, made Rove stay on.

But the hand of one of President Bush's most trusted advisors was forced when White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten announced that any senior staff that were working past Labor Day (September 3) would be expected to stay on until the end of Bush's term in January 2007.

A Bush loyallist to the end Rove, who instrumental in all aspects of the executive conservative agenda, told the WSJ that he expected the president's approval ratings to rise and that conditions in Iraq would improve due to the work of the U.S. military.

Rove also fired a parting shot at the Democrats, adding that he thought Hillary Clinton - a "tough, tenacious, fatally flawed candidate" - would win the 2008 presidential nomination.

Loved by conservatives but a hate figure for many Democrats, Rove said he expected his rival party to be divided over the wireless wiretapping issue while the Republicans should come out top in economic issues closer to the 2008 poll.

Baloney it's for his family and baloney it has anything to do with the Sept 3 thing, it's only 4 mos from then 'til Jan. Awesome that he can see Clinton is fatally flawed (I don't agree) while not seeing it in himself.

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye! Pass the wine!

Do you honestly think he really is out? This is just subterfuge.

Well that's a good point. Bush's brain will now just be involved on the DL.

It is rumored that Rove and Cheney had not been getting along. Remember Rove has been W's ally for 15or so years, not Cheney's ally. Moreover, Cheney by all accounts is a micromanager and has his own agends, which may not jive with Rove's. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Cheney actually has the plan and needed Rove's campaign/media prowess to implement it. Once Cheney's goal deviated from Rove's protection of W, the schism happened.

Well that explains how this video finally surfaced over the weekend, after people have been trying to locate a copy of it for the last several years.

It is also rumored that Fred thompson and Rove have been talkin about Rove headin up his campaign. The opinion being that Hillary will be the Dem candidate and Rove ala swift vote is needed to "stop the Clinton machine". Personally I ain't scaret, if she is indeed the candidate I gotta think they have a plan already in place for that eventuallity, and plan b and c for that matter. Hilary may be alot of things but she isn't one to go half cocked or unprepared.

Thopmson's got some fatal flaws of his own, namely his trophy wife. That ain't gonna play well with the church ladies.
And yes, Hillary's fought this machine for a long time now, she's no fool to this game.

Well that and he was a lobbyist for abortion rights in the early 90's.
Can anyone fill me in regarding why Thompson abruptly left the Senate?
