Well, it was a one-time thing, and I was one of the lucky ones who got to see it! It was at a fan festival called Heedfest, and most of the fans came from the GBV message board. The band (Robert Pollard, Jim MacPherson, Greg Demos, Nate Farley, and Chris Slusarenko) played about five songs total, two before the cover band, and two after. Also in the crowd were Jim Pollard, Jason Narducy (of the Robert Pollard band), and at the very end of the day Doug Gillard (who missed most of it, as he was coming from a gig). It was was really cool seeing all of the members of GBV, especially Bob, watching and enjoying the GBV cover band.
FIRST SET:
A Salty Saute (Like there's any other way to open a mini-GBV set)
Natures Way (Sprit cover)
SECOND SET
I Drove a Tank
(improv)
Shocker In Gloomtown
Baba O'Riley (Who cover...for those living under a rock)
And then a bunch of us headed to one of the local bars to see Jimmy Mac play in one band, then Nate with his band, and finally a reunion of another great Dayton band called Mink. In the crowd at the show was founding GBVer Mitch Mitchell.
I have to say that all of these guys were great. And it was a lot of fun meeting the GBV fans. I never thought the day would come, but Fleetwood Mac, as of Saturday, June 30, 2007, after twenty years, has become my SECOND-favorite band. I've met only three Maccers in person, but I've met nine GBVers (I unknowingly knew one from work, but he wasn't at the fest) and a member of the Robert Pollard band.
