Cloudy day with occasional sprinkles- check.
A stiff, gusty wind blowing off the ocean- check.
Temperatures hovering in the low 50's- check.
High tide- check.
The front sections were under a foot of water due to high tide washing in from the bay side. Security was not letting any additional people up front due to electrical hazards (wires and transformers under water). After a couple of attempts I got past security to my seat- luckily I was one of the few stupid/smart enough to wear shorts and sandals- I had no problem at all with the high tide. I actually quite enjoyed wading through the water, electrical hazards be damned!
Anyway, by showtime, the temperature had fallen, the tide was still high, the wind was blowing harder, and out comes this tiny little hippie chick in black between Jimmy and Lenny. Mama was wearing this horrendous black coat (of course) with harlequin/clown sleeves and this lavendar crocheted doily-looking thing sewn on the back. But to top it off she tucked all of her hair in this black velvet schmatta- almost like the blue version in the "Blue Lamp" photo sessions, but much less poofy. Under all of this she wore the standard mini-skirt sparkly tights ensemble, the "real chunky" boots (as opposed to the faux chunky boots), velvet gloves and every black scarf east of the Mississippi. She was clearly miserable when she hit the stage singing "Stand Back"- with the mic stand ribbons flying around, her scarves blowing in every direction, her bangs flying into her eyes, along with the blinding stage lights, etc. After SB she mentioned that this was the coldest show she had ever performed. Needless to say, the schmatta was on for almost the entire night. Later, for "Edge" she had on this leopard bowler hat with netting along with the white Edge dress and jacket. If you squinted hard enough, it was almost like the Rock a Little album cover come to life.
Anyway, the rest of the show was pretty much as before, except both FFG and "Enchanted" were dropped  . I guess they finally figured out that people just weren't into seeing "Enchanted" anymore. That and the fact that they probably wanted to stay on stage for as little as possible due to the harsh weather. Vocally she was pretty much on, and she does go for those HSML notes. "My lonely.... WHOAH-ONE!"
For whatever reason (probably because Jones Beach is a bitch to get to on a weeknight and she had already played in NJ the night before), the place was only about two-thirds full. The entire upper deck was empty, but the lower sections were pretty much full. I would say this is a respectable showing, considering the high ticket price and it's a weeknight. The last FM show there was only about 10 percent fuller.
I must say that this was the most fun I've had at a Stevie show. Standing in a foot of water, which was actually rather neat, no security guards around, no crowding or shoving, etc. Yes, the setlist was predictable, but at least it was fun to anticipate what other cold-weather outfit she would bring out of her closet. At the end, you could tell she was relieved that it was over, and she thanked the crowd for standing in water and freezing. She said the fact that we stayed with her despite the harsh conditions "restored her faith in music." Awwww....
I hope Friday in Camden is much calmer.
Anyway... pictures and video are coming...

It was effing freezing, very, very windy. The whole front section was flooded, people rolled up their pants and waded into their seats. Chris Issak took his shoes off and made his way through the crowd. I always go to Jones for concerts, and this had to be the coldest and windest I have ever sat through.
Stevie came out all bundled up, heavy jacket, scarf, gloves and hat. She said something along the lines of this being the most clothing she's ever worn on stage, and probably the first time she's ever worn a hat.
The show was excellent, Stevie was in decent voice. I thought the version of "Landslide" was the best I have heard in years. I'm at the point where I could careless if I ever heard it again, but she did it beautifully last night. Made me fall in love with it all over again. The picture montage behind it was very nice as well.
The show was far from sold out. We had seats in the very top section and before we even sat, they moved us right down to the second tier. I didn't bring my camera cause we were supposed to be so high up. I did take some of "Standback" on my cell. I'll try to upload it when I get home tonight.

I thought they didn't sell any tix up in the top...like the very very top...like venue's policy...A lot of people left early because it was so cold...
I just called up the venue and 6, 000 tickets were sold (that was just the girl's guess) out of 14, 000 people

I had tickets all the way up in the front row mezzanine, but when we got up there, because it was extremely windy and so damn freaking cold the security guy told us that they were moving that whole section down one level. So, we ended up sitting in the second stadium level. The security person there told us to sit in row MM any place you could find a seat. Our seats actually ended up being almost dead center, but from row MM up those seats were being used for the mezzanine people. It wasn't a sold out show by any means, but it was a pretty decent showing for a weeknight and a cold June day!

Believe me, it sounds A LOT more romantic than it was.
It was just nasty. I've been to Jones Beach many times (and many times in June) and I know how cold it can get (and I was totally prepared for it with layers of clothing) but yesterday was the absolute worst.
And the concert was great. I actually thought Stevie looked very pretty in the hat and the layers...I've seen her in much stranger outfits and the clothes absolutely fit the mood of what was going on weather-wise. But, it was really uncomfortable (if not somewhat dangerous) for the people in the floor section (me being one of them). I was right by the stage and looked down and all these wires were UNDER water. I thought...that can't be good.
The video guy assured me it was fine but, hey, he was on the stage--didn't have his bare feet in the water.
But, it's one concert I will never, ever forget, that's for sure.

That's what happened to us. We were way up top in Row U and they moved us down to the second tier, row HH just about dead center. It was pretty windy there, I can't imagine what it was like up top. We walked down a little to the pathway and there was barely any wind there at all. I was cracking up watching the seagulls trying to fly in the wind.

Wow What an experience, I had at this show,
1 The weather, thank god the rain hold up,but cold, I had my bright red winter jacket again, last time at the Fleetwood Mac show.I thought that day was colder.
2 Traffic, wasn't bad as I thought, got in parkinglot at 5:30,
3 Hightide, my seats were flooded out,
4 Chris Issak took his shoes off and made his way through the crowd and walked right by me twice.
5 The Climax, Got to shake Stevie's hand , WOW after all these years it happen.:blob2: :blob2: :blob2: :blob2: :blob2: :blob2:
Now for the Quick review. When I got to my seats , I said to my self, wow.
some people were up there all ready before the security stop more people for
trying to get seated during Chris's set,Tying to enjoy his tunes. he was good. I was pissed, walking around cursing to my self, saying I will never coming back here again and saying what i do now. so I sat impationly in the upper level watching the tide and security, ok Chris's set ended I got up and checked with security to see whats up before Stevie starts, so me and couple of other fans standby to see what will happen, in about 10 minutes The security told all of us, to go to our seats.so I had my boots on anyway, I splash my way LOL up to my seat and sat on top like everbody else did. Oh what a relief. There is no way i'm going to pay premium tickets to sit in the cheap seats,NO not for Stevie,if it was somebody else, yes will go nice warm dry home.
Ok Stevie came out bundled up,ooh she look adorable.Photos please,Her girls were hot in their wardrobe and thier long hair blowing in the wind.ok Standback started playing , still sitting on top,the tide starting to go out, Then I finally see the floor around when I think Rhiannon was playing, please correct me if i'm wrong. Hum there is some magic here.so I got back on the floor with soggy boots, thank god I had a dry pair of sneaks and socks in the car.As iI alway said Stevie's band is HOT. I think she will be lost without Waddy there ,or less Lindsey was there. or sing A-cappella with the girls , oh I will enjoy that,ok Her voice was in tune, the sound and video was excellent, which I'm supprized do to the conditions. as I remember at the FM
show years earlier everthing was shot including Stevie's voice, she was sick.
Mick's mike was dead, the video screens were blank.Hats off for Stevie's Crew.ok The Climax, EO17 started playing, I was watching the security gaurds
some people got pulled out of the isle, and the gaurds disapeared at that time I waltz my way up to the front and wittle my way into the croud, yea I had my bright red Jacket on for Stevie will see me.so the walk started Stevie
make her way across the cold stage , poor thing, she must be freezing by now.so I had my hands up and out.she was geting closer and closer, I was geting excited by the second.and she came in front of me, and It happend
I think I said I love you Stevie.I don't remember I was in heaven,HaHaHa
I felt weak and good sensation, and the crowd around me was holding me up.
over 20 plus years I've been waiting for this to happen.ok I'd stayed in my place for the last to songs in a daze.Beauty and the Beast started playing.
I was almost in tears as I thinking of my older sister at 56 years old battling with breast cancer and this happening tonight. So I want to say Thank you Stevie for all the years of entertaining me.

And the wind became crazy...
I know that others might not see it the same way, but these are my thoughts on this show -
I was there also and had a GREAT time!
There were some things that Stevie and the band did that I really admire. It seemed that when Stevie first came out, she did a "caricature" of a woman caught in a windstorm - she held onto her hat in an exaggerated way, pretended the wind was about to blow her over, etc. So in other words - and I doubt many will be surprised by this - she turned it upside-down and turned something "bad" into something useful - she took advantage of the bad situation, and made what she could of it.
Then at the end she said something like, "I don't think you have ANY idea how hard it was for you to stay here - thank you!" As always, she took the bad and used it as a way to teach, and made the best of a bad situation - It seemed to me that in between her lines, she was telling us, "why NO, as a matter of fact I DIDN'T consider stopping even for a MOMENT; I DIDN'T think of our own (considerable...) discomfort up here even for a MOMENT - you don't get to be successful in the rock music business (or anywhere) by thinking that way." Of course, she DID think those things, she DID feel tempted to cut it short, call it a night, re-schedule, etc. - but she didn't.
And here's the thing - I'm not sure how many people were there, but it was far less than the grand-smacking legendary total of 6 freaking thousand that the venue can hold. I looked around, and i THINK maybe there were only a thousand people there - two thousand tops. That's one percent of Fleetwood Mac in their heyday. I literally doubt Stevie made more than 5 thousand bucks last night. It was chump change, she could take it or leave it. And yet, even with the harsh conditions added to that, she knocked it out, and belted it out like there was no tomorrow. She gave us the SAME show that she would have given 60,000 screaming fans at Madison Square Garden. She poured her heart into it, and she didn't miss a note, and imo her harmonies were DEAD-on. Ditto for all of her backup musicians. There was ONE point where Waddy Wachtell maybe wavered just a LITTLE bit - but GEEZ it was cold, I don't blame him. But for the most part I was VERY impressed - he was RIGHT on the beat; even when he was doing the intro to Edge with a cold wind trying to blow him off the stage, it was still as incredibly precise as always. (And no, I really don't think it was a recording, thank you very much.) So I just love the rock-on attitude, and I love that they were THAT determined to give us "our money's worth," even though it was "no skin off their backs." And I love how Stevie grabs something annoyingly bad like this and seizes it as an opportunity to teach. And we all still had a ball DESPITE the bad weather - including Stevie - I SWEAR to you that it seemed like she had a grand old ball - LOTS of fun. And she seemed VERY cheerful and not tired at all.
Couple of other details -
Listen to Gold Dust Woman - CLOSE! There's some interesting changes there. And she took out the end part where she screams and so on and replaced it with some VERY interesting interaction between her voice and Waddy on the guitar - her voice kind of goes up and down the scale as his guitar notes sort of "chase" her voice, except going down when she goes up, etc. - it was wonderful.
It was really great to hear "How Still My Love." I really enjoyed that a lot, and I felt the harmonies were great. Actually I felt the harmonies in ALL of the songs were great, especially of course at the end of "Landslide."
Anyway - awesome show, bad weather or not. And Long Island doesn't suffer from major suckage, I SWEAR! I HOPE she'll be back to Jones Beach, because on a GOOD day it really is a beautiful venue.

 WELLLLL, all-righty. :woohoo: I was just throwing a random number out there. But I can tellya that for whatever it's worth, Mick claimed in his book that in their heydey, Fleetwood Mac once did a show in Germany with literally a hundred thousand fans there - some sort of sports stadium. Somehow I doubt this will register in Stevie's mind as the biggest show she ever did.

Oh. My. God.
I am speechless. That doesn't even remotely resemble what she wore last time to Jones Beach, with FM. The sleeves and whatnot are just all wrong. The purple on the back? Um, no.
I do love the hood and the hat thing, sans the bobby pins. She always does that anymore! You could see bobby pins during Sara too! :o
I love those damn boots.

Jones Beach holds around 14,000 not 6,000. People like Stevie get guarantees, based on an OVERALL expectation for the entire tour...if a show sells bad, the promoter will be the one with chump change...

It was a MISERABLE night! To Golddustwoman and Jazzyflowers who wrote they wished they could have been there-- NO... it all reads much better than the actual concert.
High Points: On the plus side, 'Sorcerer' was her vocal high-point of the evening, very alive and some excellent new percussion riffs that make it rock way more than the TISL version, really improving upon the song, tho at one point the extra beats by Lenny Castro thru Stevie off on a note, and she shot an exasparated look, at herself, for forgetting the extra percussion. I was way down front and had a lot of eye contact from her, it seemed to me, the band was really great and Sharon, Lori and Jana all sounded great and gave Stevie a lot of moral support, cracking up at her little stage anecdotes. The mentioned-here-on-TheLedge new ending to 'Gold Dust Woman' is a VAST improvement to the 'running in the shadows' ending she used for years and her voice did sound nice and edgy on this new ending.
Stevie was chatty, at one point- and looking straight at me (i was in row 6 section A right in front of her mic) in that wonderful graveluous voice of hers said "I'm sure singing a lot of the OLD songs tonight!! hehh-hehh-hehh"-- well, when they're all GOOD, you can do that!" (It was like 'take THAT, you and all the other Ledgies!!") Stevie also said that 'Landslide' "isn't about what everyone thinks it is, actually it was written when i was trying to decide if i was going to stay with my-now-ex-boyfriend", which cracked up some guy in the audience stage right, and his laughter prompted a roll of laughter from Stevie and she said 'so maybe some of you are dealing with that now, and well, good luck with that!"
As the concert ended, after 12 songs, she said how everyone staying and standing in the water 'restored her faith in music and i just want you to know that it has been very hard on all of you tonight and i want GOD to bless each and every one of you"... I hadn't heard her lay it on so thick since i was about 18 years old and she told all of us at the US Festival that "in case you ever think you don't matter, you're ALL that matters to me"...
It was nice of her to wish the blessings of the Messiah on the crowd last night at Jones Beach, but i already feel incredibly saved and grateful to Jesus and much would have preferred Stevie to do a great show than get all gushy.
LOW points: and i feel like that episode of 'The Simpsons'--- "WORST RHIANNON, EVERRRR!!" Not an ounce of passion, or artistry, just awful.
Standing in a foot of water for the first 4 songs, though that has nothing to do with Stevie. Except that she kept mentioning how cold it was, and she was. Well, babe, your feet were dry and your new Rockports weren't ruined! Plus, she was bundled, had the hot lights, and generally, there are heaters for the stage provided by the venue, tho perhaps she passed on using them. She wasn't trying to hit the notes for the most part, tho she was impressive with a fierce reading of "go on, get out" on 'How Still My Love'-- i felt like she was singing it just to me!
I did buy the $60 Hoodie and it saved my life (its warm, baby!) and actually wore it over ANOTHER hoodie i had with me; also bought the tour-book and the 'crystal visions' poster. And the merchandise stands were packed, all night long. I missed most of Chris' set because security wouldnt let me down to my seat, but as i walked in, Chris himself was walking in the audience and i quickly side-stepped into an aisle seat ("Sit anywhere" security told me) and was surprised he wasn't taller. I decided to hit the merchandise stand again and one hour after 'Wicked Game' Chris was STILL on the stage. What a LONG set.
Though i saw the water, i just wasn't expecting to have a new pair of shoes submerge and to be wringing out my pair of socks as i sat up high on the back of my seat (thank God i don't have a fat ass) but that was my 10 minutes prior to 'Stand Back' starting... When i heard the long drum solo, and then the opening riffs of 'Edge of 17' i just finally sat down in my chair (the tide had left the ground dry after 'Rhiannon') and with my head covered with 2 hoodie-hoods, i just stared at the ground. Made no attempt to move just 4 rows closer to shake her hand, i just sat there and listened, a couple times glanced over at the large projection screens, but i just couldn't look at HER. She was back in a flash for 'Rock and Roll' and 'BATB' and i did enjoy R&R but 'Beauty' just sucked, for me. A double punch of 'R&R' and 'Fall From Grace' i think woulda been a lot more fitting.
So, 12 songs is what Stevie Nicks calls a concert these days.

"Makes me believe in music again." Hah.
This show ranks as my favorite so far on the tour. Though I feel bad that Stevie was miserable, I still love the abundance of (new!) clothes, the insane gusts of wind that blow the ribbons all over the place, the freaky wild hair she had going on especially during Edge and just... it was great.

What about BATB sucked for you? I just watched the video and thought it was stunning.
Jannie, i guess it was because i knew the show was over, that she cut a lot of corners, and it just wasn't the right closer, on this particular night, she needed to rock out. I know its a great song, you're right, generally her vocals were good on it, though the final note 'beast' sounded flat to me- compare it to the Jones Beach 'Timespace' 'beast' where her voice on that final note caressed the scale up, down, and back up again, that was chilling to behold.
Last night it was just the weather that chilled- and i felt Stevie, though gregarious in her chatting with the crowd, just only about 3 times in the night really did some exquisite singing (Sorcerer, the end of GDW, and some of Edge of 17) and i just love the voice, when she's working it. And for me, this Jones Beach show, she was looking for excuses to be lazy- even telling Sharon, Jana and Lori that it's "just too cold" to do long introductions of them, so ''this is gonna be real short." And 12 songs and calling it a night winds up at about $14 per song for the ticket alone, not to mention more than $30 in gas to get there and back. I gladly paid another $85 at the merchandise stands, and i did get some enjoyment during the show, when she exerted herself, which wasn't a lot. Still would see her again.
Plus the "Steviego" of her comment 'I sure am singing a lot of OLD songs tonight, hah hah hah-well, when they're all GOOD, you can do that" was very telling to me. She doesn't care about challenging herself, and is satisfied that 12 songs is a full concert. I just think- (controversial or not) that she owes her audience more, and is selling short her talent.
And for God's sake, if that's the best she can do with 'Rhiannon' send the old girl (meaning the song) out to pasture, it was horrible!
And 'Talk to Me' and 'I Can't Wait' are both easy songs, i don't care what she says- she actually soared on 'TTM' whilst on Klonopin in '91.
I'm glad she's sober and healthy, but she was a much better, and less mechanical, performer both on cocaine and tranquelizers. I gotta remember too, that she's 59 now. She's still Stevie Nicks- but the "Steviego" comment i mentioned is why her shows fall flat now and have been doing so for a number of years. Sorry. I know I'm a pain. I just "remember how good it can be," if only she'd "remember a melody" other than 'all the same, all the same'....
Apologies. But its how i feel, and i also think it is the truth.

I can understand a lot of what you're saying. I started noticing it during TISL- it's almost as though sometimes she is just not emotionally present. See, I don't care *what* she sings, as long as she seems into it. So when I hear set list complaints, clothing complaints, etc. I don't get it. To me it's more of well, how did she sing the songs? So my point is, I do understand what you're saying. I just thought BATB was very pretty, based on this video.
Personally, I think Jones Beach should have canceled the show if it was so bad. (I grew up in Wantagh, NY btw) To think that so many people LEFT- that's horrible. It did seem as though she was grateful to those who did stay.
The videos look so cool and dramatic (particularly Edge- hair blowing, lights flashing)- but those of us weren't there aren't feeling the wet and cold salt air while watching!

I was kind of surprised they didn't cancel this show also..... especially when it flooded!! But maybe its because so many people were already there?? Was it flooded all day or did it happen just before the concert??
