AP-Paris Hilton URGENT

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A judge in Los Angeles has ordered Paris Hilton returned to jail, and she was taken from court screaming.

The judge says she has to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation in a reckless driving case. A weeping Hilton shouted, "It's not right!"

She also called out to her mother in the audience.

Earlier today, a weeping Hilton was brought back to court in a police car, apparently handcuffed. She was taken from her home, where she returned yesterday after the sheriff's department decided she could serve out her sentence in home confinement, with an ankle monitor.

I actually cackled when I read this. :o Cackled.

I know that she's claiming she's being treated WORSE because she's famous, but her sentence would not be uncommon here for "everyday" people so I don't buy that. And if I developed a rash due to the stress of being in prison, I damn sure wouldn't be allowed to go home & serve MY time under house arrest. So boo****inghoo, Paris.

the police car carrying paris handcuffed to jail mowed right thru the throngs of media even tumbling a LA nbc reporter as they left her house~ & she cried out "it's not right" & "mom, mom, mom" when sent back to jail~ they said a woman deputy had to push her out of the courtroom~

Well, really now, she looks like even more of an asshole with the way she's acting. Hey Paris! You committed a crime, now serve your time. You are NOT being treated any worse than the "common" man. Suck it up & deal with it. There are far worse atrocities going on in the world than your trip to prison.

Still pisses me off a little that this is major national headline news, btw.

yeah, I mean wtf? Serve the 45 days and shut the hell up. It's 45 days. It's not like she's going to lose her job for not being there, or lose her children. It's not like she has a life threatening illness. And, she's in the special needs unit, away from the general population. Hey, maybe she could learn to read while in jail. Could we send her Hooked on Phonics or something?

Oh, and I read that her problem was not a rash, but that she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown from having to go to jail. Well, then don't break the law, bitch.

Done.

When I got in trouble (Law-wise) during Jan.-March 1988, my Mom gave me these infinite words of wisdom:

"Don't you bitch
Don't you whine
You did the crime
Now do your time"

Man, my streak of good things happening continues!!!

I find the attitude here laughable. If anyone here thinks they would not use any legal means available to keep themselves or their kids out of jail - they are delusional. Moreover, if the Sherriff told you to go home, you'd stay? I don't think so. Finally, who here would show to jail with a smile on their face? So, let's not be hypocrites

As for Paris - I could care a less for her, but the judge treated her far worse than any other person in the same situation. If you think otherwise, let's see the other 45 day sentences.

But, people hate her and want the law applied differently to her based on that. To me, that is pathetic.

On another note - the stupidity of press agents and publicists never ceases to amaze me. If La Hilton had just showed up to jail, been a model inmate when she did and served the 23 days - she'd walk on water when released. yet, they do this BS.

Come on - all of the press is reporting the 45 days is ridiculous and no ones gets that  If you know differently, I am all ears.

And - of course she cannot be in the main tank - the county would be exposed to way too much liability - right or wrong - such is life.

I've been admiring your svelte bod in that hot dress - congrats BTW!!!!!

Seriously, I could care a less if I ever hear about La Hilton again, but - the fact is her sentence was ridiculous. I hate when the law is used to make a point - Justice should be blind no matter how vile or nice the defendant is.

As for the sherriiff - who knows why he did what he did. Word on the street is he is a maverick with an over crowded jail (19,000 beds when 30,000 are needed) - under a Federal Court order to free up beds - and he outsed her.

Personally, I think the wiser and likely legally corect thing would have been to send her to the psych ward.

She should have just taken the reduced 23 days and STFU - now she is back to the 45 day sentence. Moral to this story - Take what you are offered and STFU!!!

Hell, I was in state's custody from Jan.15,1988 til March 24,1988 (Before I pleaded guilty to 2 felony charges - received a deferred sentence and 5 years probation, after successfully serving the 5 years of probation my record would be expunged - so currently I have NO criminal record.) and I took it like a man (Though I was still only 17 years old) so I have zero sympathy for lil' Miss 'Rich Yeast Infection'

Poor Paris..."Boo frikkedy hoo"

To me, that is pathetic.I am no expert on how the American legal system works...at all, so if you say she received a harsher punishment than 'normal', I believe you, but I will say this: which sheriff's department would send a prisoner HOME because he or she was suffering from a rash? And which imbecile would think that would have no consequences?

Strand - Of course "common" people would try to get out of it too. The point is (in my experience with friends & fam who have gotten DWI's) it doesn't work. And, did I hear that she could have gotten up to a year or 2 in prison? Sounds like they didn't give her the worst possible sentence just because she's famous.

BTW - where can I find the specific laws/sentencing for my county? Are they posted somewhere online?

This sheriff is in the middle of a pissing war with the state courts and the Federal Court. The Federal Court (which trumps the state court) has mandated the sheriff make the jail less crowded and/or build a new one, which cannot happen now. So, the state court knows this and then sentences this idiot to 45 days. The sheriff gets pissed and sends her home to house arrest. This is the same sheriff who released any inmate under a bond less than $10,000, then the courts raised the bonds and so did the sheriff. So, this is not really about Paris Hilton, loathesome though she may be.

Oh for f*ck's sake!

I'm sure she'll go to Club Fed, pay her nightly rate and serve the rest of her 23 days in peace.

Long before my mom and stepdad were married, he was sentenced to 60 days for violating his probation which he was sentenced to after getting his first and only DUI. That was county jail, where all the meth cookers and crazy people were, so stop making it sound like she got a raw deal.

She was driving in a car while an affidavit signed BY HER saying she was not allowed to drive sat in her glove compartment. Not only is she deserving, she deserves a kick in the head for being retarded.

I think www.foxnews.com and www.cnn.com have links - but I am getting my information from Greta and the other legal pundits, who generally are very accurate.

As for the two years, that likely never happens.

In the end, the public rarely realizes that if we actually put people in jail according to their sentences, we would have to triple our jail space to the tune of billions of dollars. So, as awful as it is, we as a society and through the sheriffs are faced with the choice of putting La Hilton in the slammer or using that space for a rapist. I used to see this shiitte every day - so I am, I think, numb to it.

to the first part, I agree with what skcin said, and that she could have gotten a worse sentence. so its not like that she has to go a year without shopping. that wolud be torture to the poor girl.

No, she is in the county jail. They put her in solitary confinement because of the potential liability - that and, IMO, the fact that the sheriff likely does not want La Hilton blabbing about the crooked nature of almost all prison systems.

why is it laughable, hypocritical and/or pathetic to discuss the fact that Paris seems to get special treatment. man, I'm confused. no one has said they fault her for attempting to get out of her sentencing. the problem is that she did just that...or, almost did. no one I know would do any different than she did, but that wasn't the point.

how are people wanting the law applied differently to her? how did the judge treat her far worse than anyone else who would've violated probation? I, personally, have seen this happen more times that I can count and I worked directly in the office with the probation officer and saw many escorted directly to jail with my own eyes...maybe your legal experience in GA is different than mine though. her sentence is what it is. she should serve it. and apparently, the judge thinks she should too.

I could care less about Paris and how much or little time she gets. The great part about all of this is the media circus surrounding it. When all of this was going down this morning every news channel including CNN, MCNBC, FOX and others were covering it. When the Defense Secretary was announcing that Pace was resigning as Head of the Joint Chiefs you know that none of the channels wanted to switch to that story and away from the Paris circus.

I was on my way to a meeting when the rep from the City Attorneys office came on the radio in LA to announce the judges decision. There was a loud and prolonged cry of NOOOOOOOOOO! from someone standing near him. It was hilarious  I know it was all in jest but it sure put the whole thing in to perspective.

I never thought I would say this, but with all the harshness I've seen directed at her the last few days, I actually feel a bit sorry for the girl now. Imagine the entire world, literally the entire world, hating you and making fun of you.

This is true, Mari.

My mother and I were talking about this yesterday, as channel after channel called her "stupid", "useless", or "bratty". Among others. I'd want to go on some sort of homocidal rampage through every newsroom in the country if they called me "useless" on national tv. She's still a human being.

She's a human being that deserves to serve her sentence, even if it is way harsh (judge showing off his power much?) - but all the public **** talk is really gross. It's one thing for people to say it privately to each other.. it's another thing for the idiot box to brainwash the nation with it.

I tend to agree, but she lived by the sword of publicity.

Interestingly, I also think people trashing her tends to make them as shallow IMO. I mean the news sources were laughing yesterday at how they were devoting hours to La Hilton when there was real news going on. Think about that

So they should have started talking about something else. No integrity whatsoever. Mention it, crack your one completely unoriginal comment about how vapid and rich she is, and move the hell on. I saw 4 stories in a row on the same channel yesterday. The first story was about her going back to jail. The next was something about the crap that had all lead to it. The third was some sort of commentary about the whole thing, and the last was talking about how much more money she'll be able to make off the whole deal. At least 20 minutes of continuous coverage right there... not mentioning anything else.

^^

Pathetic commentary on our society.

I will say this though - the real issue here is the maverick sheriff in LA county and his defiance of the judicial system - along with an out of control judge who IMO used this way harsh a sentence to set up his book deal/news legal spot/etc. IMO both the judge and the sheriff are using La Hilton's fame to their advantage and in the process eschewing any respect for the legal system they had.

Finally, I do feel sorry for La Hilton because other than violating her probation (which is a serious thing) she has done nothing else wrong here. Again, if the sheriff tells you to leave the jail, who would actually say "gosh, I think I'll stay here"

Somehow, the lyrics of "Freedom" "poor little fool" are ringing in my head.

That would completely annoy me also. I think it's different for us because we're not exposed to this 24/7. I can still think she's an annoying twit without having been influenced by the media. My ignorance regarding the legal system helps a lot also. I realize this sounds incredibly prejudiced, but I find it hard to conjur up any sympathy for someone like Paris Hilton, who has not contributed one decent thing to society.

Once again, she, alone, in responsible for employing hundreds of people when you consider her television show, perfume, and other products. So, like her or not, she contributes to society more than most.

As for having sympathy for her, that is not any issue I am talking about when I am discussing the legal power players using her as a pawn. My point there is that despite any feelings anyone has about her, their use of her is quite sickening. Yet, people loathe her so much that they cannot see past that and would rather our judicial system fail than see her treated like everyone else. To me, that is sickening because the law should be evenly applied and no one should gloat when it is not.

Well, the only things I can say to maybe shed some light on the system here (without getting all technical like strand) are a couple talking points.

1. a woman who shot her minister husband in the back with a shotgun while he slept did not get convicted of first degree murder.. voluntary manslaughter. she was sentenced yesterday to 3 years in prison, of which she only has to do 210 days. she will technically do less than that, as she'll serve most of that time in the mental ward getting help for the emotional, physical, and mental stress he put her through. before she blew him away with a 12 gauge. considering the extreme difference of their crimes, 210 days in jail for murder and 45 days for driving when you shouldn't be.. not enough difference there.

2. DUI and driving on a suspended license are usually less than 30 days here. Maybe it's because of my state. But a lot of people who get busted for DUI, driving while suspended, or driving while revoked don't really do time, they get probation - even after multiple offenses - and serve community service hours. 45 days hard time is pretty severe.

3. people busted for possession of marijuana stay in jail longer here than a lot of other offenses because of mandatory sentencing. what the hell is that about anyway? get busted with an ounce, serve 3 years. blow your husband away, serve 3 years theoretically but not really.

it's way wacky around here. the point isn't that she hasn't done anything good for society. the point is that there are people who do way worse in society and get away with it because over jail overcrowding or half-ass cops, while she's strung up for our watercooler chat enjoyment.

So, like her or not, she contributes to society more than most.Sure, though I doubt that was done deliberately on her part. In fact, my guess would be that it was done for a lot more selfish (read: financial) reasons. But if you look at it that way, I guess she did contribute.

If you say it's so, I'll believe you, and I agree that it's wrong, but I still won't lose any sleep over her having to spend a few nights in jail. For me it's easier to separate matters, because of my ignorance. You know? I totally get what you are saying, Jason. Really. :wavey:

While I agree that sounds absurd, I do think this is maybe comparing apples to oranges? I realize that 45 days for a DUI is maybe too harsh, but in this woman's case, couldn't it also be that she can't be held accountable, so called 'guilty but insane', or (Jason, you're going to be proud) doli incapax?

She didn't enter a plea of insanity. The jury just felt bad for her, really.

Her reasonings for the murder were reasonings that you'd give for divorce.

The Netherlands. Hm. I dunno. Probably a bit too cold around there for me. I will enjoy your liberalism vicariously, though. ;)

I don't get why people find it acceptable that major decisions about somebody else's punishment (life, even) are made based on the emotions of ignorant civilians. But I guess that's a whole other topic that we probably shouldn't get into.

The Netherlands. Hm. I dunno. Probably a bit too cold around there for me. I will enjoy your liberalism vicariously, though. ;)It's not that cold here really. We've been experiencing some thunderstorms this week (induced by the humidity), but temperatures remain in the high 70s, low 80s. It will get hotter once the rain stops.

And yes, I thoroughly enjoy our liberalism.

I love you. People are saying "she did the crime, she needs to do the time" but anyone else in the same situation would not have been given 45 days in the slammer. She was sentenced harshly. Most offenders would have been given longer probation, a heavier fine and perhaps a longer license suspension. I am not a Paris fan but she is being treated unfairly. Period. People do not like Paris so they are happy she is in jail. Calling her a spoiled brat and whatnot is fine, but she has every right to be angry that she is not getting the same treatment as every one else. She was driving on a suspended license for Cripes sake! There are many other more serious offenders that need to be housed, yet they are wasting a cell for someone who drove on a suspended. Whoot. Had she registered for the DUI course, her license would have been reinstated anyway...this whole thing is a joke and a complete waste of resources.

A total waste of resources.

Indeed. Think of it this way, California tax payers are paying for Paris Hilton's accomodations right now.

If I was the judge, I would have fined her to the max because she can afford it. Pump some money into the system instead of spending money on her.
