Did you actually do the quiz? Because the link Ethan sent automatically says 40. This is the link to the actual quiz.

I will die at 73, although I think some of the questions are b.s. Like "do you have a dog". It should be do you have a pet.

Welll...I'd prefer to die around 45-50. I can't say that? Is it the wording? I certainly wouldn't blow my brains out, or say I would, cause that is way gross.
But some people don't want to live very long. Not for a bad reason, at least not myself. Because some people have had experience with suicide, does that mean I can't express myself? I mean, I usually don't anyway, because people get all worried, like I'm unhappy and depressed and stuff, but that isn't why at all.
Not a big deal, just FFT.
Oh, and my thing said 65. Undoubtedly I'll kick the day after I retire. *rolls eyes*.

What is your reason for wanting to die around 45-50?
Meh. "I'm bored" We'll see how the ol' bod holds up, but I don't want to be ugly (er) or extensively physically diminished. Of course I'm sure I'll change my mind if I have a child.
I'm not sure what I'll still need to do at that point, either. Besides work. And who wants to stay alive just to work more? :p
I just don't think I'll have much of the things that make me happy now, at that age.
Other thing that would make me change my mind: Winning Lotto, getting a huge bunch of money somehow.
Also: My friend Rain plans to retire in 14 years, sell the house, live off her investments and retirement and SS and all of whatnot. So she can travel. She doesn't want to really live anywhere, just travel. That might be fun to do.

My guess is as you approach 45-50, you will change the age you'd like to die to 60-65. I don't think it is human nature to want to die. Even suicidal people don't want to die; they want to end their pain. Big difference.
I have the same fears of growing old as everyone else, but I figure cross that bridge when I get to it.

growing old is such a gradual process it's not so shocking at all I am experiencing.
One reason I'd like to live beyond 65 is to see my sons into adulthood. I would hate for them to have to deal with the loss of a parent before then :(
On a happier note!! Hahahaaahaaa Ryan, I love your cats sentiment, and agree totally!

well, I mean, I don't want to get old. no one does and I certainly don't want to have horrible wrinkles and not be able to do anything for myself or be "that old guy" - I was just taken aback by her wording that she was going to blow her brains out. I just thought it was necessary to express concern over someone seemingly serious about that. and I probably wouldn't have said anything if she hadn't "corrected" Vanessa that she was serious. you can say whatever you want or express yourself however you want, but I have the right to then express concern. I was being as sincere and caring as possible, or at least I'm trying to change...wait...I mean...or at least I tried to be.

I dont mind getting old, I still look good for a 37 year old (Had some ladies at the Stevie/Eye-sack show ask if I was in my late 20's/early 30's). I have a young at heart mind...Which helps to center me sometimes...
BUT, I deal with the thoughts of suicide all the time, sad to say (Mainly because the death of my Mom dealt me a major blow)...I will never do it since it would hurt those close to me, especially my 'friend' nickay (bka Christy). I made a promise to her to stick around and I intend to be here for awhile...Have a bigger 'prize' ahead in my life motivating me to be alive.

Honestly, the thought of being old is more disgusting to me than imagining my brains on the floor. Maybe at 60, should I make it that long, I won't be that lifeless.. but I won't allow myself to become geriatric. I know there are lots of old people who are perfectly fine.. but with my lifestyle and interests, the day that I'm stuck in a chair is the day that I'm a waste of space and respiratory processes. I'm not saying everyone who is old is a waste of space. But I would feel that way, I'm sure.
As far as saying **** on a board with a bunch of strangers... I've been a radio host since I was 16 years old. I'm used to saying whatever I feel like saying in front of whatever audience. I'm not scared to be myself just because a few people might find it scary, shocking, or sad. I guess in my own way, people being offended is really the only thing that offends me. Really, I don't know how people get to be so sissy that they can't stand to be offended. If someone does't like that school of thought, then big deal, move on, who truly cares anyway? It is just a bit of chit chat on one of the tamest community message boards on all of the internet. And the anonymity factor really is more safe than confiding in people you know. It's almost like talking to yourself, but you can see it and watch people react. Maybe it's just a social experiment. ;)

I didn't say it was offensive, heck, it takes a lot to offend me, it just seemed completely random in a thread were everybody was joking around. Like walking into a bar where everyone is laughing and saying 'hey, guys, I think I'm going to shoot myself tonight'. No one's going to take that seriously.
And why am I still talking about this? Sheesh.

Wait a minute. I just did the quiz and got an age of 76. Then I went back and tried again, because I'm not sure I can REALLY say I exercise 6 days a week... So I changed the exercise response to NO and got an age of 79. So exercise will actually shorten my life? I've been wasting way too much time at the gym lately.

Granted, health issues can change this-but you are really as old as you feel. They are in their 70's and are very active and full of life. Then I've known other 70 year olds who just sit at the table, drinking their beer and smoking their cigarettes waiting to die. Just persective I guess. I personally don't mind getting old. Hear hear on chronological age being a state of mind.
My parents are 75 and 73. They regularly take three-week biking vacations around europe and bike 45 miles a day.
They are in WAY better shape than I am.
And very active and involved in a million things, and their minds sharp as tacks.
80 truly is the new 60.

Hmm. I find this really interesting. Kind of refreshingly honest mixed with really bizarre. Ah, the words to my theme song. But really, it doesn't seem bizarre to me. Who likes not being spry and hot? Who likes to work? Who doesn't want to be rich with little effort? You may be right about the rest. :)
so 60 = being stuck in a chair, a waste of space respiratory processes??
I need to warn my grandparents. He's 75 and she's 72. And literally-they are more active than me  No ****, they WEAR.ME.OUT. when I go see them
yah, it's true, like my grandpa could kick our asses at tennis in his mid seventies and stuff. But he has old guy mountain air strength (it's a phenomenon of this century, old tough guys. It's true, there was an article...:p ). And my grandma cleaned her house like a maniac until way late.
But maybe her (sarah's) lifestyle includes, uh...playing softball and volleyball, and riding her bike, and hiking a lot, and river rock hopping, and jumping rope, and walking really fast, and jumping around, and camping, and generally frolicking. It may also include being hot and not wrinkly while doing these things.
While most old people aren't very athletic, some are, like you say. heck, maybe I'll suddenly like golf when I'm old, and think it is really fun. I have the feeling, judging from food and environmental factors, that our generation won't be as spry as our grandparents are. Some grandparents travel a lot (maybe yours are like that) and that is pretty cool, I might settle for that. Do the whole motor home thing. But, like many here, it is hard to imagine some of these things being fun without physical facility and also being hot.
I also notice some grandparents who get a lot of things done. Which can be considered spry, but I don't like to get a lot of things done now, except for aforementioned activities, so if in my old age I am really good at getting things done that I don't even care about now, that wouldn't be much of a trade. My mom is a really good artist, which you can pretty much always do, no matter how old. I, however, am not, so.... I dunno, maybe I could use my old age to learn and practice all the things I always wanted to be good at. That sounds kind of fun. Guitar, here I come!
I thought of another thing that might be fulfilling when I'm old, since I already like it - animals. Just doing bunches of stuff with animals. That is something old people can do, and I already love that, so maybe I won't mind getting old if I get to take care of animals all the time. Perhaps that could be fulfilling. But to what degree? Or working constantly for environmental things - heck, I'm old, what else do I have to do? The good thing about being older is that you really don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks, and you say whatever you want.
If I'm old, I want to be like Sasja's grandparents - biking trips in Europe. But I'll still be all wrinkly...maybe when you are old you don't care if you are wrinkly. That would be great.
Chronological age is a state of mind - for instance, I am 8 - but you can't really ignore your physicality completely. I mean, I remember vividly the immense sorrow I felt at age 10 or whatever, when I realized I was too heavy to ever do gymnastics again, the bars, effectively. And with every new physical limitation I feel sorrowful. Like, really sorrowful. I definitely place much more value on physical ability than many people, it is my greatest joy - but still.

That is truely great to hear. I give them some MAAAAJJJOOOOOR props for that!!!! Congrats to them.

gosh. and here i thought my disclaimer would be enough:

My grandparents, save for one, passed long ago. The one that remains is riddled with health problems. My family has a very serious history of cancer.. almost everyone gets it. I'm not exactly looking forward to aging. Really, outside of my immediate family.. mom, dad, and sister.. I don't have very much family - at least that i see and/or interact with - at all.

I'm not exactly looking forward to aging.
No one looks forward to aging. And no one wants to lose their looks and their abilities. Also, no one wants any of the other bad things in life to happen, such as losing loved ones, etc. But bad things happen and people learn to deal with it and find meaning and purpose in other ways.
You have absolutely no idea how you will feel when you are old. Why even think about it?

Are you saying that we will become completely different people who think and feel different things when we are old? I kinda doubt it. I think/feel a lot of the same things now that I have always thought.
People don't have to find meaning and purpose if they don't want to. It's not like there isn't enough human life on the planet, it won't be epically tragic if I die early. I mean, a billion of me could die and there would still be plenty of people.

No huffenpuff here! I'm rather fascinated by the discussion.
I'm saying that we do change over time and in reaction to things that happen to us (both bad and good). I'm reading some of these posts as "I want to live as long as I look good and I can be active and then I want to die." And the reality is that people can adjust to changes that alter this situation in a way that allows them to continue finding some joy in life.
Sure, if your life right now is all about running, jumping, skipping or whatever examples you used, and it is a big part of your identity, then if you hit the point when you can't do that anymore, I'm sure there will be a sense of loss. Probably a huge sense of loss. But I also think that you will find that there are other things that keep you from wanting to die. I'll say again that it is against human nature to want to die.
So I actually don't believe any of you who say that you want to live until X age and then you will end your life. I think you are saying something easy and that you don't really mean....I don't want to get old, so I hope I die before then. I will talk to you the day before the age you want to die and listen to what you have to say then. :)

don't be a catty bitch. you can tell from the rest of my post I was totally joking and not being hateful.
IMO. Your post was directly contradicting what she said, and no, not in a bad way, but still contradictory. Without acknowledging her caveat. IMO - Her post about the disclaimer was also not bad, considering your contradiction which contained no nod to her caveat, which I'm sure is what warranted the rolley eye. And your jokes in said post were not about her point, they were about your grandparents.
IMO - term "catty bitch" not necessary, considering your non acknowledgment of her caveat.
IMO -rolley eye usage will almost invariably incite terms like "catty bitch", so, while I think it wasn't totally warranted, I see why it happened. I would likely have done the same. You can't really "roll your eyes" without seeming...you know. Kind of like a catty bitch.
And you also can't directly contradict someone's point without noting their caveat exemption to that point, while talking about the very exemption that they noted. Otherwise you are basing your answer on not everything they said. And more specifically, you are arguing about something they specifically previously agreed with you about.
 See?
hehehe. NBD. That is my logical take on what just occurred. The only reason I said something is that there was name calling, and stuff. And also, I felt that both sides had points.
Those points were that Michelle, while quoting Sarah as her starting point, should have acknowledged that Sarah specifically included people like her (Michelle's) grandparents in her opinion, as a disclaimer, but Michelle didn't note that in her answer, and my other point is that, if you use rolley eyes, no matter how tempting, since you (Sarah) specifically excluded what kinds of old people Michelle was talking about - you may seem like a catty bitch. And then someone might say "quit being a catty bitch!". Because those rolley eyes can really get people going.
I don't really care about this too much either way, and I certainly don't think it is a big deal, at all - but I did think it was a fun exercise in...uh...logically dissecting conversations? Bridging the gap of misunderstanding? Calling people on their fairly benign shizz? A wordplay puzzle? A donation to African children?
 :wavey:
Seriously, you are both cool, but when eye rolling, and "catty bitch" come up, something needs to be done!!! Okay, not really, but I just wanted to. Okay?! Step off!!

No huffenpuff here! I'm rather fascinated by the discussion.
Thank god. Me, too. I love when the ledge can have discussions about serious things without getting all sensitive. That is when we ~learn~ and *grow*. hehehe. But really. It's hard to learn/read/say anything interesting if everyone is getting all sensitive about serious subjects all the time. How do I love thee?
I'm saying that we do change over time and in reaction to things that happen to us (both bad and good). I'm reading some of these posts as "I want to live as long as I look good and I can be active and then I want to die." And the reality is that people can adjust to changes that alter this situation in a way that allows them to continue finding some joy in life.
It is true, and that is what most people do. And it is highly possible that I would find joy in some other thing when I am older. In fact, if I tried, it is likely, since I am basically kind of a joyful person, easily pleased. However, taking what you say into account - I have always been, and am now, excessively physical. I get joy by walking fast, or by going up stairs. So, I think my point of view on that aspect is more pronounced than many other people's. I rarely meet people like me. Although I meet a lot of people who like exercise, and it is a huge part of their life, for sure. I mean, you are a marathon man. But...I dunno...I don't get the same sense of it being completely important, and supremely vital, and all joy giving, from most other people. Perhaps these other people have things going on otherwise that they enjoy just as much. Not as much with me. I love to read, and that is quiet - but I don't feel the sublime joy in it that I do when I am moving my body.
Well, I hope so, but see above. But you are right for sure about it being human nature not to want to die. But if I don't have a problem with it now, I may be an exception.
So I actually don't believe any of you who say that you want to live until X age and then you will end your life. I think you are saying something easy and that you don't really mean....I don't want to get old, so I hope I die before then. I will talk to you the day before the age you want to die and listen to what you have to say then. :)
Good plan. I mean, I definitely think that what I have to say is brill and insightful, and the human race couldn't possibly live without it, so - maybe I'll want to live just to torture people with my musings...
You already said that you can't do some things now that you used to do. I think gymnastics? So why don't you want to die now? What is it about the age of 45-50 that makes you think that is when you want to die?
Well, to be honest, I can still play other sports that I love, and be pretty darn physically active, so that is why. By 45-50, I probably won't be able to, plus I won't be hot. However, if I do lots of yoga, that may not be true, about the physical part. But I mean, I would want to die if I couldn't do stuff. But you are right in a way, that is what I think now, having the abilities I do. I could feel differently if that were not the case. Like you says, it is against human nature to want to die. And admittedly, the rest of my life isn't so super most awesome that it would keep me engaged. But maybe sometime it will be. But...how can I live when Stevie is gone???

This is a very interesting post. Thank GOD we grow and change and our priorities grow and change with us. I'm not saying that anyone is immature; the reasons we keep going every day change as we get older. I'm changing physically and while I don't love it, I'm not losing my **** over it. But, if you had told me when I was in my early twenties that I would be sporting a belly and stayed in bed reading with my husband every Friday and Saturday night, I would have been devastated.
I too believe that the human "instinct" leans toward survival. I can certainly relate to feeling like I never want to be old, pitiful, and a burden to anyone. But hopefully I'll have some pretty cool things to live for in my old age too. I look forward to every stage my life has ahead of me. I may not LOOK good while I"m experiencing everything, but fortunately, I can deal with that.

That's my favorite part about my life, and believe me, it happens a lot, when people think I'm strange when I am just expressing something that seems totally logical to me. I'll have to harken back to my defense, which is, just cause you didn't think of it, doesn't mean it isn't valid or real or logical or smart. It just means you didn't think of it, or don't understand it. And I mean that non offensively. Lots of people don't get what I'm talking about, believe me. Doesn't mean I don't have a good point. Doesn't mean you are deficient (duh, of course you aren't).
I mean, it would be great, I suppose, to think of things everyone else can think of, and readily understand, but my mind doesn't always work that way. It often thinks of other things, that people don't understand, and that other people haven't thought of. Perhaps the sad part is my shattered illusion, the one where I think what I said makes sense to others, and is logical and obvious, and plain as the nose on someone's face. :wavey: :xoxo:
I'm very glad for my few friends who understand what I mean, and think I'm smart and funny and brill, and are glad I present things to them they never thought of before, but find amusing. As I'm sure we all are, for friends like that.
But keeping on topic, that is also one of the things that makes me not care about my life as much. Not in a bad way, but I just fear that, just like it has always been, many people will not understand what I am talking about. Kind of takes the punch out of the whole "leaving your mark and helping people" thing. It also takes the punch out of my love of learning, which is my next greatest love after physical things. Like, I can learn so much stuff, but no one will ever care, or use it, or need it, or listen to it, or believe it, or understand it, or whatever. So, it's still fun to learn, but then I have to keep it all to myself, which isn't quite as fun.

Ah, but to me, dissecting convos for logic and continuity is fun. And I'm sure they didn't care that much, but they did care enough to "roll eyes", and call "a catty bitch" I mean, there was some caring. The fact that it wasn't that serious, but was slightly off joint, made it more fun to dissect. It is like, there was a slight miss in communication, with slight bitchiness involved, and so what better convo to logically dissect?
Also - Time? It took me, like four seconds. You know those natural skills you have, that you can do almost without thinking? Yeah, that is one of mine. Logical dissection. Conversely, I have a terrible sense of direction...couldn't find my way out of a paper bag... :wavey:
Yeah, I didn't think I had the market cornered, but "people thinking what I say is weird, even though it is totally logical" has been a constant theme in my life. I usually wonder why everyone else is taking the most circuitous route from point A to point B. When I just told them the fastest route. Except for literally, if we are actually talking about directions to places. Because I have no idea about those...I could get lost going around the block...and I mean the literal block. In a car. Well, as a disinterested party, I would have to say, that the fact that you did not acknowledge the fact that she directly addressed (premptorily) the point of your post in her original post, which you didn't acknowledge, while still using part of her post for your post...see what I'm saying? Like, you argued with her, but she already had agreed with you, with her disclaimer. And you did not acknowledge the disclaimer in your post.
Seriously, aside from your apology, which is great, but probably unnecessary, I'm just breaking it down.
Like, you quoted her, but didn't acknowledge that she already agreed with your point, in that exemption part of her post. The one where she said "I'm not saying all old people are like this" or whatever she said. You only took the part of her post where she said "being old is a waste of oxygen" (paraphrase) without including the part where she said "but some old people are not like this at all" and in the meantime you mounted an argument about old people, and how cool they are.
Which apparently caused her to roll her eyes in response, because she already said that! She already said "not all old people!!!" Which you didn't really acknowledge in your post. So then, she was impatient about that, and rolled her eyes, then you thought she was a catty bitch, and you know the rest. And I am in no way advocating the rolley eyes. We all know that once you roll those eyes, you are a catty bitch.
 Hey, I am that impatient, too. I would be all "I said I didn't mean cool old people!!!"
Seriously, it is no big deal. I just enjoyed dissecting it. Sesly. It's like those times where you say "I already said that!!!" when someone says something you just said. Or when you say something, and your friend is all "no, I said I wasn't talking about every old person!" and then they roll their eyes. And then you be all "well, I was just trying to say, about my grandparents!" and then your friend is all "I know, didn't I say I wasn't talking about every old person?!" And then you're all "yeah, you did, I just kind of missed it and was responding to the other bulk of your point. You didn't have to roll your eyes at me, and shizz." and then your friend is all "Sorry to roll my eyes, but I already said that, about cool grandparents!"
It's all fun. Some people roll their eyes, some people counter people's points without acknowledging some stuff that person said, some people take offense and call people bitches, some people find it fun to dissect stupid conversations...etc. :p
It's allll gooood... You are both very sweet, and perhaps shouldn't call each other bitchas, or use the rolleys.

Just let your pimple guide you.

I like the funny Deb. Don't hide it behind yo hayh.
God knows the pimple was bright enough... It was like Rudolph...
Wait, no. Why would my pimple have a better sense of direction than I do?
Song?
"Onleh light left on in the house, was a red pimple....A re-eh-eh-ed, pimple..."
"The pimple still laughs and cries and shines, and the pimple still laughs and cries and shines...SHINES!!!"

And now I anticipate that Sarah will be all "sorry I sarcastically rolled my eyes!" and she will realize how cool you are, etc.
And then we will all eat plum pudding and gingerbread, even though we don't like them, and then no ledgie will ever misunderstand another, ever!!
Then we will all realize we don't like plum pudding or gingerbread, and we will have cheesecake and german chocolate cake, and chips and salsa, and burritos, and brie with crackers, and those delicious foods will lull us into realizing that...uh...we are tired cause we just ate too much, and we should all have a nap. Yeah...

 I don't think you watch the Family Guy but once Chris Griffin had a big pimple that was his friend and talked to him and told him to do evil things. I thought maybe your pimple also had special powers since it was right next to Stevie and she's magical.

Not yet, anyway....
Depends, here she comes.

i am totally lmao.
michelle - it's all good. and the apology really isn't necessary, i don't want you to lose part of your soul. it was just confusion. i wasn't trying to be catty, so i'm sorry for that confusion. i would best describe the eyeroll as "out of exasperation". as in, "holy moly sheesh, everything i say here gets taken the wrong way!"
amber - thanks for spelling it out in rational people terms, girl. lol. it's like you know what i'm thinking but don't have the ability to spell out in ledgie-speak.
i didn't really realize that you guys consider " " a bitchy rolleyes. to me, it looks more like a sheesh rolleyes. but i didn't really put that much thought into it.. i just slapped it up there. i've been spending some time on a board that uses http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif as the resident bitch icon... that's a bit more direct. lol.

 No, I totally remember that one, but I didn't last night.
Shoot, I wanted to start your b-day thread. Oh, well. I'll go right over. My pimple told me to sleep in today.

And I'll still be like "Yeah, it was the same, but she sounds better, doesn't she? Right?"

No need to get all introspective on me because of what I said (joked!), I was just amazed that someone would take (have?) the time to dissect an entire discussion between two people who I think, really, couldn't care less.
Oh, and don't worry, you don't have the market cornered on people that don't understand what you are saying. People misinterpret me aaaall the time. Makes for interesting, albeit fairly useless discussions/arguments from time to time.
OMG. You are one of the only people I've ever seen use this phrase correctly! Most people say "I could care less"... drives.me.nuts.
