we haven't done one of these in a while and we have lots of new posters; plus it's always interesting to see what interests the people on the board outside of The Ledge...so, what are some of your favorite sites that you check out every day or every other day...

I visit BBC News all the time too.

Also

www.theonion.com (www.theonion.com)
www.landoverbaptist.org
www.trollart.com
www.conservapedia.org (for some laughs)
www.family.org (see above)
www.city-data.com (I find this really interesting for some reason. Some of the information is inaccurate, but the message boards are fun to look at...not sure why).

haha its not that hard when all the stuff you look at is either too big for you [such as fleetwood mac vintage concert shirts....], or if all the posters suck ass
also, if you want to purchase a DVD from a forgien country, read and see if it says if it wont play in your own country, that deters me from alot of purchases

also i forgot photobucket.com
i love it :)

half the stuff on ebay is way overpriced anyway

I am not using themes. I am a wallpaper whore though. There are some outstanding images and I have my desktop set to swap every 30 mins random images.

This site is leaps and bounds better than macdesktops.com, which used to be cool like 5 years ago. Now there stuff is weak.

o hay I never responded either.

my Firefox toolbar bookmarks:
- LiveJournal: Update Journal
- LiveJournal: my friends page
- LiveJournal: friends page; communities filter
- LiveJournal: friends page; file-sharing filter
- Facebook
- last.fm (taking me to my profile page rather than my dashboard; I check this a lot to see if everything's submitting right)
- Wikipedia!

then it's my school cluster:
- bsu.edu
- my Ball State email, since mail programs never work the way I want them to
- Blackboard (to check grades & assignments in school)
- inQsit, to schedule online tests if I'm so unlucky to have profs who assign them.

then some random forums, then my bank, then Photobucket since I use it more than I need to.

it sounds like I have a bunch, but it's not too many. everything I don't visit as often lives in my super organized bookmarks folders.

ugh, seriously? fiiine.

they're not quite as organized as I might've made them seem. they could be a lot better. ANYWAY.

that's some Apple stuff, including my RA's review website (he's a geek) and the iLounge forums, which I check every once in a while to read up on bugs in iTunes, etc. you can also see my 'random/temporary' bookmarks that aren't so temporary:
- vixy.net is for when my sister forgets Google exists and makes me convert YouTube videos for her (this happens more often than you'd think; Google's a foreign concept upstairs)
- Arrah's LJ because I may or may not stalk a member of a certain local band that I adore. um.
- a product page from InfraRot when I was debating whether or not to buy something from there or somewhere else (I bought it somewhere else, so I guess I can delete that one now.)
- a LiveJournal community for Office icons.
- hi-res photos of the Spice Girls reunion press conference. :o
- an adorable (http://shanalogic.com/item.php?item_id=314&category_id=55) but kind of pricey plush mummy <3
- Rilo Kiley ticket pre-orders
- List of Buffy episodes so I can read up on bits of trivia as I marathon my way through the series again (4 1/2 seasons to go!)
- TWOP's Buffy forums, since I'm a GEEK and I love their Buffy discussion.
- a link to a video of one of Emilie Autumn's concerts. bitch can shred her violin.
- LJ entry with a ton of 90's songs that I need to download for my increasing 90's playlist.

OKAY NOW.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/daretheghost/bmark2.jpg
Photoshop Stuffs, which includes some design guides (color & text, mainly) and some coloring tips & hints for graphics, as well as Illustrator tutorials since I still don't understand a damn bit of that program.

webcomics. ~nuff said~

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/daretheghost/bmark4.jpg
Music Stuffs! Emilie Autumn forums/fansite, Siouxsie & the Banshees website/forums, Rilo Kiley battlegrou--er, forums, huge Emilie Autumn gallery, Tori Amos sheet music, Tori Amos midis for sheet music, tabs for 'Changing Of The Guards' by Bob, Tilly & the Wall merchandise I want/need, a database of cover songs since I'm interested in that (thanks, Nick!), Livin' In A Dream forums, Blondie/Deborah Harry forums, Patti Smith fansite. whew.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/daretheghost/bmark5.jpg
MOAR SCHOOL LINKS. the library homepage since I LOVE THE LIBRARY OMG. and something about housing -- I forget what it is but I guess it was important, College Photographer of the Year competition page, and a YouTube video of the Carmen SanDiego gameshow for reference with Opening Committee.

so now that I've done that, they can be a lot more organized. I think I'm going to break them down more and make more specific titles. you keep me in line, Carrie!

Ah, Jennifer Beals -- putting the "flash" in "Flashdance," lest any of us forget from whence you came. Yet how could we? You were the world's worst welder, freakiest choreographer, most petulant person ever to throw a rock at her boyfriend's house, and greatest argument against the female tuxedo. Plus, you taught a whole world of men that, yes, women can rip off their bras without removing their outerwear. Bravo. Just maybe don't give in to the temptation to reenact that scene here for the fans. Areolas have a way of chewing up the scenery.

Have you all seen this site?

www.keepingscore.org/flash/beethoven/index.html

Lots of fun. Plenty of interactivity with Flash & script. Be sure to watch the various videos embedded in certain pages.

One of the joys of reading of Beethoven's life is the inadvertent comedy in so many anecdotes stemming from the troubled & troublesome aspects of his personality & idiosyncrasies. My favorite laugh here is the page BEETHOVEN MAKES A GOOD LIVING under PATRONAGE. The site relates what Seyfried had to say about being a page-turner for Beethoven at one of his benefit concerts:

"But--heaven help me!--that was easier said than done. I saw almost nothing but empty leaves; at the most on one page or the other a few Egyptian hieroglyphs wholly unintelligible to me scribbled down to serve as clues for him; for he played nearly all of the solo part from memory, since, as was so often the case, he had not had time to put it all down on paper. He gave me a secret glance whenever he was at the end of one of the invisible passages & my scarcely concealable anxiety not to miss the decisive moment amused him greatly."

That casual "invisible passages" is a hoot, & the reference to Egyptian hieroglyphs is priceless. I about died with laughter when I was reading that. It's so ... Beethoven.

I've been playing around with the EXPLORE THE SCORE section yesterday & this morning. You can follow along with the score while Tilson Thomas conducts the orchestra, but on your way you need to pause the score playback so that you can see & hear the MARKUPS videos, as well as the LEARN MORE link (which goes into themes in the exposition & how frequently they appear & are varied) & the film & text in the upper left corner. (Remember to click the SHOW MARKUPS & SHOW THEME buttons at the top.)

I've never really cared for Tilson Thomas as a conductor (except for his masterly '80s recording of the complete Nutcracker ballet), but his pedagogy is understandable but his manner is not dry.
