Gosh, i read this forum every day, and haven't seen a thread about this, so i was very pleasantly surprised at Borders today to see that Stevie is on the cover of the June 2007 'Performing Songwriter' magazine (Volume 14, Issue 102).
Of course, this is the same magazine that she shared the cover with Lindsey after ' Say You Will' was released. (Volume 10, Issue 69, May 2003.)
Its a 6 page spread including the photos, and a good interview (though it leaves you wanting more)-- written by Chris Neal.
There's not quite as much typical Rumours-era rehash in the text, and Stevie, as ever, is quotable- most interesting to me is her assertion that she will not record with Fleetwood Mac again unless Christine re-joins, saying that "Absolutely not, not in this lifetime" will she make a new Fleetwood Mac cd without Christine. "Why? We already tried, and it did not work."
The Klonopin rehab gets an angrier than usual spin from Stevie with much more profanity from her in about 4 lines in the article than i may have heard from her, ever! She relays calling her psychiatrist 'you assh*le", a few words later recalls she told him 'You fu*k yourself, you bastard!"
So, it's a nice little read :)
Truly. She also relays a little info about what she thinks of the 'Rock A Little' and 'Other Side of The Mirror' cds now (favorable, mostly) and well, go pick it up, not every day Stevie Nicks makes a magazine cover. Gosh, i feel 17 again :)

Also should mention that the pic of Stevie on the cover is the nice side view photo of her in a white hat which is showing up in many newspaper ads for the current tour; there's a full page pic of her on page 54 (in a mauve or rust colored skirt and vest, with "bat wings" and then a handful of smaller pics throughout the article.. I'm pretty sure the 'mauve/rust' pic is used in the cd-dvd of 'Crystal Visions'- but it's down in my car so i can't be sure, but i think so :)

Re: TOSOTM--
"Lucky me, I had written the songs for TOSOTM before the Klonopin kicked in. I was very happy with them and still am. I really love that record. Somewhere out on that tour the stuff kicked in and brought me to my knees."
I'm glad to hear she likes TOSOTM so much, because it may still be my favorite solo cd of hers overall. I recall playing it the first time on Memorial Day weekend, in 1989, at a beach party in Rohoboth Beach Delaware with friends and me saying "this is like her solo version of 'Rumours', the songs are so good, one after another!"
My "Rumours" comparison may have been youthful exuberance, but i still think there's a lot of brilliance on that cd (for me, mainly 'Long Way To Go,'
'Ghosts,'- 'Doing The Best That I Can' to name the ones that still stand out for me. And i do have to confess to the guilty pleasure of really loving 'Cry Wolf' even tho many fans have said they can't stand it. Just loved it....

Pardon any spelling errors from me about the Delaware resort, it was my first and only visit there . Maybe its Rahoboth? Rehoboth?
Who cares ...

is she serious? i have news for you, stevie -- it's not because you were without christine that the album "didn't work." you had some of the worst promotion and publicity for that album and the label knew they could recoup a lot of the loss from album sales by having the band embark on a year long nostalgia tour of mostly your hits. both singles were buried on the radio and barely got any air time -- if it weren't from both shows on vh1, no one would have known you even recorded a new album -- they would just think you were doing another reunion tour.

Okay, now this is getting a bit ridiculous for Stevie to be acting this way.
On one hand she gushes over being in a "big time fabulous rock and roll band" and on the other hand she won't record another CD without Christine?
Either A: FM is going to have to offer Christine a hell of a lot of money or some other incentive to get her back to record (which might happen considering she made her own CD), but not tour with FM or ...
B: FM just keeps on going without Stevie, but don't see that happening either, well they did once and we all know how that turned out.
Maybe this is why Stevie is supposedly now focusing on a solo CD at the end of this year or maybe in 2008.
Oh, the DRAMA of it all. But I guess that is what makes this band (FM) so interesting.

You have some good points there. I think that's why Lindsey is doing the same by continuing to tour with UTS and then doing a follow-up album for 2008, because he must know that Stevie feels this way. They are both doing their own stuff now, and i say, good for them!

I wouldn't necessarily blame it all on marketing... 218,000 people obviously new an album was coming out and wanted it and bought it the first week. At this stage in the game in an industry in the shape it's in - and with their visibility as an ongoing active band - I think that's pretty good. And there was plenty of press... They won an American Music Award which has a lot of visibility... And I don't think radio picking up on the tracks issued as singles would have made much of a difference on sales as radio play would have come from AC stations and AC isn't known for producing much in the terms of sales - because of the number of listeners... Top 40 reaches a ton of people, but they aren't where radio is today. The marketing actually started the year before with the release of the Very Best Of... Enough people bought that and knew the album and tour were coming... So either they've lost a huge portion of their fanbase, or the cd wasn't considered very good, or people just don't care if they produce new music and just want to hold onto the old... I don't know... I like the cd.. I like that it has lots of tracks... What sort of sticks out is that it does come off as two solo albums put together... So maybe Christine would have made a difference...
Maybe she's making reference to the whole recording process of the project and the stuggles they had there with disagreements about whether it's a double or a single... and the sequencing of it we heard about - sounded like it almost put an end to the whole thing... So maybe that's what she's talking about?

Interscope would have been better, it seems. Maybe. I recall being a new Ledge member and a female Warner Music Group employee taking me to task terribly for me suggesting that 'Say You Will' was dying on the vine and it was all fixable, and without me necessarily meaning to blame (Reprise) Warner Music Group, in a way i guess i did. She said the label WAS working the cd and with a great deal of effort, and perhaps she was right.
Perhaps, because promotion is also in a huge way the artists job, and 4 years after 'Say You Will' we see it again- Just this month, Stevie puts out a cd-dvd with good potential, considering it's a rehash, at least there's a DVD- the main selling point to get people into stores to buy it could have been 'Rock and Roll'---- so... Stevie does two tv shows, and sings Stand Back and Landslide. About 5 weeks prior, on the SuperBowl pre-show she did, Stand Back. At any of those times she sang on tv, it would have been critical for the success of the cd (and tour!) that LaNicks perform 'Rock and Roll' and get some buzz going. Everybody's heard 'Stand Back' to death on tv. No-one got to hear her do 'Rock and Roll' so hence there were no requests to radio to get it played. It was her best shot.
Back to 'Say You Will' - Mac went on the Today Show and sang 'Rhiannon, Go Your Own Way' and two weak new tracks, 'Peacekeeper' and 'Say You Will'...
That cd had two unrealized hits on it, and myself- and a few others- posted and emailed til we were blue in the face that 'Miranda' was the standout Buckingham potential hit, and 'Everybody Finds Out' was the most alive Nicks track in ages. Ignored by the band, ignored by management and record labels who were contacted, oh well.
Mac go onto Leno and Letterman and STILL push 'Peacekeeper' which CLEARLY was not selling the cd, wasn't gaining at radio, and only slowly climbing on what used to be called the easy listening stations. Just a dud.
Fans hopes for the tour get up high, when Stevie says there's a real potential now for Mac to be a Buckingham-Nicks Fleetwood Mac, and illusions of 'Frozen Love' opening the show excite some of us, to be followed later by Stevie's 'Thrown Down' and LB's "Miranda'' or ''Steal Your Heart Away'' which eventually goes to radio, way, way too late. So, they go on tour, and open with The Chain...
Lindsey tried, and was willing, to dig deeper into the cd and try new songs out live, when fans here pushed for 'Red Rover' he put it into the set. Nice little song. But not a hit. 'Miranda' would have been great for radio and worked swell live. Oh well, again.
In hindsight it seems ridiculous to think Nicks would consider stretching and making 'Finds Out' the showstopper on the 'Say You Will' tour it could have been. All she was willing to sing was the (i'm sorry) truly dreadful 'Goodbye Baby'- oh, and 'Say You Will' - which was a cute enough pop song, but it wasn't a 'Thrown Down' or 'Finds Out' or 'Running Thru The Garden'...
The only blame i think LB truly deserves for the entire 'Say You Will' cd is for producing such a hideous 'Smile At You' and ruining the song more than any Stevie Nicks demo anyone had ever heard in their lives, and for thinking "Peackeeper'' with its cheesy 'waht-wah-waht-wah's was worthy of being the lead song from the first NEW Fleetwood Mac cd with he & Stevie since (!) 'Tango In the Night'...
So how much are record labels to blame? This spring, I'm sure it had to have occured to someone, especially WADDY, or the A&R people that Stevie should sing 'Rock and Roll' on Ellen, The Superbowl and whatever other tv appearance she made. She didn't. Wouldn't. She could have had some airplay by now. Maybe not tons. Maybe quite a bit. Maybe the cd would still be in the Top 50. Sheesh.
So the promo "Rock and Roll'' single gets out of the hands of radio stations and into eBay buyer hands, and it never gets on radio because millions of tv viewers who would have seen, didnt know Stevie had covered 'Rock and Roll' and actually had somethin kind of new that rocked. Why even mention the 'Landslide' promo cd single.
Not that millions of people exposed to "Rock and Roll" would have requested it at radio, but even if it were a couple thousand moved by her rockin it out on tv, and that is a conservative estimate, the song woulda had a shot at airplay and it also would have sold the cd-dvd. It's so simple. The label tried. Stevie didn't.
And after a decent first week, a month later, the cd is sinking so fast, it's crazy. She did 2 shows at the Greek in LA last week. I am sure Jay Leno or Jimmy Kimmel would have had her on to sing 'Rock and Roll' (though the time was in the past month to do it) but Leno likely would've passed on another 'Stand Back' performance. And apparantly it didnt even occur to her to try to promote the cd or tour nationally while in the same city as several late night TV shows.
Yet it appears the record label is really going out of its way to get behind her by going to the co$t now to have a 7 track 'Stand Back' remix sent to radio, since its the one song for sure millions of tv viewers get exposed to regularly and it's the tour opener.
Now I almost feel sorry for the labels working with Stevie Nicks. Stevie doesn't know how to promote herself to the masses anymore- and it was true back when 'Say You Will' was released, too. So i can't say it was because of Christine not being there that 'Say You Will' didn't work. It could have. Should have. The "Live in Boston'' cd with its less than 100,000 copies sold- well...that was another case of 'all the same, all the same'....thats why that didn't work.

I wonder where this Christine stuff came from all of a sudden. Before it was all 'oh, we can do this without her' blah blah, and now it almost seems as if she needs a reason/excuse why she doesn't want to do another Fleetwood Mac album again. Whatever, Stevie.

Doesn't this seem like a pattern. The Mac does an album....they have reunited and all is great...this is the best thing we've ever done...blah, blah blah....and then a few years later it was the worse experience in the world, they weren't really getting along or happy about the situation for one reason or another, and then another couple of years go by they make up and make something else which is at the time so good and feels great, but a couple of years later will be deemed a miserable experience or not worthy to mention. I see this as very predictable and knew as that Say You Will tour continued on she would have negative comments later on as she did mention missing having Christine with her even while the tour was going on. I enjoy the music but can be spared the drama! Just my honest opinion and thoughts.
Kelly

She seems to just not want to record period. She is probably using the Christine thing as her excuse for why she doesn't want to record a Mac album. She didn't say here she wouldn't tour with FM, just record. (she said the door was always open, in that other interview)
She does address a solo album in this article but as usual, she is vague. (where as in the past, she always talked up her future releases..we heard about TISL for four years before it came out. She sounded excited and hyped about it. Plus we knew she was working on it, as news of producers leaked out, etc)

I chalk SYW's less-than-stellar reception (personally, I think it performed respectably) up to a lack of public interest. I think the hardcore fans purchased it, and that's pretty much all who were going to buy it anyway. It's not like they're going to reach the MTV audience, who makes the bulk of music purchases. The "casual" fans are more likely to attend a show so they can hear Rumours performed for the billionth time than to buy an album of new material.
As for Stevie, I agree she doesn't seem to want to record in any form. This Christine thing is just bizarre, because she's been gone since 1998.

I think Stevie's been very clear that she didn't like SYW. She's found a new reason.
I have always said that the album feels like Stevie and Lindsey solo albums slapped together. I agree with her, it didn't work. There are many songs I enjoy a great deal individually, but I feel nothing from it as a whole. I think it suffers greatly from Christine's absence, as did the tour.
Fleetwood Mac is clearly done, except possibly for one more cash-cow nostalgia tour.

I have to say I disagree as well. Warner promoted the hell out of that record. I mean MTV/VH-1 do not just give hour long slots to just anyone much less for the making of a record. Then, the TV spots (GMA, LENO, etc. ) . Then the AOL first listen. Then the placing of songs on very popular t.v. shows. Then, all the radio station press and interviews.
So, the record failed because people essentially had no interest in new material from them and/or the material was not radio friendly enough for that pick up.

I'm not sure Christine's prescence on the album would have significantly increased the sales but maybe it would have made the experience more pleasurable for Stevie.
Perhaps she just needed her big sister there to protect her from all that testosterone.

"Absolutely not, not in this lifetime" will she make a new Fleetwood Mac cd without Christine. "Why? We already tried, and it did not work."
On some levels, I agree with her. It didn't really have the "classic" Fleetwood Mac sound that most people wanted, at least not enough of it. It was Lindsey's grand opus solo project, not Tusk, materialized.

Their bitching and moaning is going to overrule my enjoyment, I'm afraid. Wait, let me rephrase: it would be all roses and sunshine at first, the bitching and moaning will come afterwards, after it's clear the album didn't sell well.
Selfishly, I would like another tour, if only so I can get one last chance to see them. But if that's not going to happen either, I won't lose any sleep over it.

So, the record failed because people essentially had no interest in new material from them and/or the material was not radio friendly enough for that pick up.
while i completely understand and respect your opinion and am well aware that anyone who thinks fleetwood mac will be the commercial success of yore is ten kinds of crazy, you simply cannot expect an album in the current music industry climate to sell without a significant amount of radio airplay and market saturation – and frankly, i agree with krista – i don’t think it was nearly as terrible as stevie makes it out to be but i think more could have been done to insure that it would sell more units. peacekeeper and say you will were not viable as choices for album singles. plain and simple, they were boring. it’s not up to the artist to select the single, it’s up to the label and as far as i’m concerned, they did a complete injustice by allowing those two songs to be the sole representation of the album from a band who hadn’t released new material in years. yes, fleetwood mac was on gma, leno, etc. but what were they performing? either the hits or say you will and peacekeeper. snoozefest. you can’t expect to rope in the casual listener without giving them something that is more ear-friendly and for that, the label is to blame.

With the mindset that they are both in now, no thank you, I wouldn't want a new FM album either.
But if that's not going to happen either, I won't lose any sleep over it.
i would like to see them tour once more and then pack it in. i thoroughly enjoyed the say you will tour -- but i fear if they tour again, it will be the same exact setlist.

I think that is exactly what La Nicks is talking about. You see, it can be interpreted both ways. While I do believe that Stevie didn't find the whole SYW enjoyable because of the overabundance of testosterone (something not only she has said before, but Lindsey as well), I think that in this particular interview she wants us to believe she meant commercially. I don't think she's aware that we are aware that she didn't find that an enjoyable experience (though I believe that's highly exaggerated), but she does know that most people are aware SYW didn't sell a few million copies. What she surely must realize is that the presence of Christine would not have affected sales at all (unless she thinks Christine still has the ability to whip out the hits like she did in the 70s and 80s, something which no one in the band can still do at this point and that is not because of lack of talent or craftsmanship).

Ultimately, I think they will shoot themselves in the foot if they decide to tour without a new album. You can't rely on the casual 'appreciaters' to keep digging deep into their wallets and fork over the 100 bucks tickets to see Dreams and Go Your Own Way. Look at what happened with Stevie's new tour (and same old setlist)... the diehards would rather spend their money buying **** than watching her on stage. Fleetwood Mac is still a bigger business name than Stevie Nicks, but I doubt they could pull off 135 shows again.

I totally agree. Without a new album I won't go and see another FM tour (unless by some miracle Christine decides to tour again and that is so not going to happen) seventy five quid for what?
It would be more of the same (start with The Chain etc etc zzzzzzzzzzzz)
I'd rather have a new album with Christine (if Stevie can persuade her) and no tour. BUT I think that's highly unlikely - I don't think Mick and John would be too happy.

I don't think Christine's presence would have made a huge difference to sales but she just might have come up with the hit single which would have made a difference. I agree thought that there's no way they will ever shift loads of albums again.
I think Stevie wanted her there to stand up to Lindsey (musically) which she is well capable of doing.

I agree that there were a few great songs on SYW but there was kind of a disconnect that did make it seem like 2 solo albums on shuffle play and that missing glue was obviously Christine whom I believe would have participated in the album ,but there was no way in hell she was going to tour particularly for an absurd two years .We can thank Mick Fleetwood's grasping, money grubbing ways for her absence on the album..That same quality of his will likely prevent her participation in any future album as well.

It can't be a reunion tour, nor can it be a tour to promote an album, nor can it be an anniversary tour (they missed that boat this year). So, yes, if it's going to be a farewell tour (and really, farewell is farewell. Hear that, Cher? Eagles?) they'll probably bring in enough dough, eh.. people.

Even a "farewell tour" should have NEW PRODUCT to promote. Do a double album of all new material, include past members (Green? Spencer? Welch? McVie? Vito? Burnette?), on the album AND the tour. Do it RIGHT, not the 31st Rumours rehash as a goodbye.
And, yeah, what pisses ME off the most is that I'll see whatever they bring to the concert stage no matter what...ONLY to keep my 30+ year streak alive of seeing them at least once per tour. Then I'll probably just whine & regret I went afterwards.
For a band that puts out some great music, they sure crap all over the loyal fans.
I never thought I'd say it, but I think it is high time Mick & John put Fleetwood Mac out of their loyal fans' misery.

i'd like to say that has a snowballs chance in hell of occuring, but honestly, you know as well as i do that it will be rumours part -- well, whatever at this point. i'm doubting the band will play more of their lesser known hits [probably because of stevie and her inability to try things outside of her comfort zone] so it pretty much would be the same songs from the syw tour, minus those that appeared on syw with maybe a few of the generic additions we'd expect.

Kind of like what people did during "Landslide" in 1975...and now, look, it stayed in the set and people love it...other artists even COVER it.
Keep the new material IN the set, it will grow on people. If they'd just added two or three Rumours songs and dropped them one by one during that tour, it wouldn't have sold diddley-squat. They bitch about how an album tanks, but then they don't add enough new songs, or more accurately, KEEP enough new songs, in the set of the tour that they're supposed doing to PROMOTE the new album to actually make a difference in album sales. Nope, they keep shoving f***ing Rumours down our throats for the 1,000th time. I get it, there might be 100 first-time concert goers at each 20,000 seat venue, so they'll sell 40 more copies of Rumours at the expense of maybe selling 5,000 more copies of whatever their latest album is within a week after the show. That is just insanely idiotic marketing.

I do not really see that argument as 100% accurate. Certainly of the two, he is more willing. However, he still fills his set with oldies but goodies. That he has less of them than La Nicks is his own deal. In other words, La Nicks could fill up an entire concert with staples and/or hits/singles. LB could not do that. Perhaps she just needed her big sister there to protect her from all that testosterone.

I agree, I think she was referring to the SYW recording. I don't think that was because Lindsey's been extremely bossy (well, maybe, just a little...) , but because she deeply missed Christine capacity to mediate without creating a drama. I think he takes much better criticism from Christine than from Stevie, and probably she regrets not to have fought more for some issues at the time. It's also possible that the early meeting(s) they must have had in the last months, could have brought out the same issues, and so she's just a bit discouraged right now
By the way, she's keeping taking of a solo album...

I think you are mistaking the drugged out performance of SOTM on the Mirage video with an acceptable live performance of it. Have you ever heard the piano demo? The vocals are remarkably similar in range to BC because La Nicks writes all of her songs essentially using the same few chords. So, if she can sing one, she essentially can sing the other.

You are missing my point. Regardless of the music accompanying it, the vocal, esentially, is the same as the vocal on the paino demo, save for the drugged out part. Put it this way, the album cut of BC has one of her most beautiful and searing vocals ever. She was able to pull that off onstage with no trouble. If she could do that, what makes you think she could not do a solid version of SOTM, which is IMO no way nearly as vocally challenging as BC. I think you are thinking that anything less than the Mirage version of SOTM is crap. At least, in my opinion. Rhiannon is prefered the way it was much more over the way she does it now, but because it has been around forever and evolved over the years people have never questioned it and Stevie still feels comfortable doing it. A standstill performance of SOTM would come across rather blah. I doubt they were going for blah. With BC the vocals are the most important part of the song, with SOTM it's the entire package.

This reminds me of the bitching about Tusk. At first everyone thought it was a great album but when it didn't sell like Rumours, everybody blamed Lindsey. Now that SYW didn't sell well, it's because Christine wasn't there.... I agree with Stevie though, SYW did not work. There are a couple of songs that I like but overall I couldn't care less. I never play it. I probably said when it first came out that I loved it but I think that was said in the excitement of having something new from the band.
As for Christine recording with Fleetwood Mac, I don't think that's ever gonna happen. Maybe, just maybe, she'll say 'yes' if the band would be willing to record in England and that's never gonna happen. They all have kids (except for Stevie), they need to go to school, have their own friends etc. They don't want to move their families overseas for a year or longer.
I'll go see them if they'd tour, only because I saw them every chance I had and to say goodbye.

I'm with Strand on SOTM. The Mirage version isn't even my favorite of the song. I like her Tusk Tour versions. The song is just as much about the long guitar solos as her vocals. In fact there are very little vocals involved. I think she could easily handle this song now. There won't be tounges, but she could do a stong vocal. I think she'd have a hard time with Angel, but she could do a mean SOTM. And Danax, you brought up Rhiannon, I don't think she feels the need to even try with that song. The second that guitar intro starts the morons in the audience are hooked, she could gargle water the reast of the song, no onw would notice. She tries harder on songs she needs to push on her fans (FFG, RNR, BC)

And Danax, you brought up Rhiannon, I don't think she feels the need to even try with that song. The second that guitar intro starts the morons in the audience are hooked, she could gargle water the reast of the song, no onw would notice. She tries harder on songs she needs to push on her fans (FFG, RNR, BC)Which is basically what I was saying. Nobody expects it anymore when it comes to Rhiannon, but people would expect it if she did SOTM. Too much pressure.

Going back to the original topic of Stevie not wanting to record without Christine. She's said this before and I don't think she is refering to sales at all when she complains. She's said many times she just wants another girl in the band, she likes the dynamic of her Chris and Lindsey, like many of us here do. Lindsey on the other hand is in love with his 33 and half percent of more space, which makes no sense to me.

I think Christine takes some of the pressure off her - especially vocally.
They really need that third voice now that they are older and voices are thinner and lower.

. . . What makes you think she'll breathe life into a 27 year old song for a FM tour voluntarily?
Because she did with BC - I know you keep saying it was LB's idea, but La Nicks never said she did not want to do it - rather, she has consistently said since like TITN or maybe even before, that with the new songs from the new record and the old standards, there usually is no room for an obscure song. She never said she did not want to do BC.
In the end, only time will tell and all we have to look at is history, which demonstrates that other than this tour, she usually adds a few things when she can.

They had at least four back ups on the SYW tour (the girls and Brett) and I think the some of the other guys may have added as well.
But, I agree, CM is missed.

Having said all this, I'll gladly eat my own two feet if the next FM tour comes with a roaring rendition of Sisters of the Moon. I'm just not holding my breath. Certainly not on the song but at this point, not even on a tour.
Pardon any spelling errors from me about the Delaware resort, it was my first and only visit there . Maybe its Rahoboth? Rehoboth?

Sorry, I live not too far from "Rehoboth Beach", so I had to comment that this is the correct spelling. Why was this your only trip? Rehoboth is really quite nice.
Anyway, maybe Stevie just misses Chris plain & simple; she just doesn't like being the only woman in the band. I guess if this is the case, there will not be another FM tour although this is not what Stevie told Ellen when she was on her show not too long ago.

Actually if you listened closely, it is what she said. Or at least what she implied. Yes, she said Fleetwood Mac was never a closed door and the answer wasn't "no" to a future Fleetwood Mac project. However, she also made a caveat to that statement by saying IF maybe one day they could lure Christine back. In other words, never say never to Fleetwood Mac but don't hold your breath unless Christine is a part of the proceedings.

But, your conclusion is not supported by your argument. For all we know, she brough up the idea years ago and the band shot it down everytime. She has said she always wanted to do "Always Been a Storm" - but it did not translate well. That implies she convinced them (or vice vera) to the point they actually tried it. She also practiced "Straight Back" for the Mirage rehearsals. So, I conclude it is unfair and mostly incorrect to say that she is unwilling to be innovative with new things, especially in light of her new stuff in the last four solo tours as well as with The Mac.

Let's not forget that during BTM line-up. Both Stevie and Christine stated very publicly that they would not continue in FM without eachother..then Christine went on to record Time with that line-up. Stevie said she would NEVER be on the same stage with Mick again..and we know that did not stick.
Then Stevie said she couldn't see a FM without Lindsey being in the band during SYW line-up. I think anything is possible depending on where their careers and bank accounts are next time Mick calls.

It's getting a little old about how much of you all are doubting Stevie, and it's getting to the point of where it seems that you are all hoping she never does anything new. I remember in about September of 2006, when we started hearing word that a new best of was in the works, nobody believed it, and everyone said she would never release another album again. But when the word became official, that shut everyone up pretty fast. Stevie is being vague about any new projects because she hasn't started anything yet and won't until late Fall at the earliest. We've heard from multiple sources that Stevie will begin working on a new album soon after the tour ends and she has a few months of respite. Nothing is in the works right now, so how can she talk about something that doesn't even exist yet? Let's just see what happens in the next few months, instead of going off on every article or publication that mentions Stevie will do something new soon as being a falsity!
As for SYW, no it didn't work because Stevie missed having Christine there, tensions were extremly high and she was given very little input by Lindsey. She would probably be willing to do a small "reunion" tour in the next few years, but she certainly doesn't want to invest another 32 months into the process of recording and touring if Christine won't be there, and i agree with that. They tried it once, it didn't work, so now they'll have to try something different.

So, he more room to add other stuff. I mean do we really need to hear GYOW or NGBA one more time a la Dreams or GDW?
If GYOW wasn't in his or any set, I'd cry. Same for GDW.
Well I think he is a LOT better with his set and realizes the need to change it....

No, I am not. BC on the record and live is way higher than SOTM, which is relatively simple in design, a hallmark of La Nicks' writing. She put over SOTM with an intensity rarely seen in a performer, but the song itself is not that hard. Play it both on the piano and sing along.

Interestingly, if she sang SOTM in the same key and vocal intensity as RTTG live, I think it would be okay.

I doubt anyone is hoping she doesn't record in the future. Some of us just hear different things in these interviews than you do. I have not heard multiple sources confirm Stevie is to begin working on a solo album, in the fall. That 'Off the Record' interview was the only place "fall" was mentioned, that I can think of off the top of my head, and Stevie did not say that. He said 'she 'should" begin work on a new studio album in the fall." Some dj speculating is not really a great source. (the only other time 'fall" was mentioned was by Stevie, saying she was going to take some time off in the fall) Stevie was not working on TISL in 1998 but she was certainly talking about her next album. She even had the title ready! Four years before it came out she had the title and was talking up the album and asking people to produce for her. I am not trying to argue or be negative, I honestly hope we get more recordings from her. The label is the one who puts out GH too. so of course we got one of those. I always knew that sooner or later they would get their way, and a GH would be released. However, she did not give them any new songs to use for it this time.
We all should wait and see what happens in the future but the board is here for us to speculate. I know personally, I would love to be able to say I was wrong about a new album. Sadly, I just do not think I will be.

She could still do sisters of the moon.your right. she could do a version simmilar to the tusk re-issue second disc vocals. in her current range, it could still be powerful and cool.
(ALTHOUGH there WOULD be the endless bitching about how its not the drug-crazed mirrage vid. version)
But it could still rock1:]

The way I see it is that Stevie is right that Christine's absence on the SYW record was felt, and I would like to think that if she had been part of the record and tour maybe it would have worked better, but the band as a whole should be blamed for the lack of originality on their part. They talk up a new album ,but then the tour basicly rehashes Rumours and the whole Lindsey and Stevie Drama on stage. If they want to continue, then next time they tour whether it is for a new album or not they should leave the back up band at home and really delve into the catalogue to make the tour worthwhile. If I recall allot of the reviews of the SYW tour described FM as the "Fleetwood Mac orchestra" when talking about all the extra people on stage which is not something to get excited about.

It was hinted at from the beginning that Stevie wasn't entirely thrilled with 'Say You Will.'
In an interview that was published just after the album was released, Lindsey mentioned that Stevie hadn't yet thanked him for the work he'd done on her songs. He added, "I think Stevie is seeing part of this record through some dark colors right now."
Right from the outset, Stevie said she missed Christine and that it felt odd to be in the studio with the rest of Fleetwood Mac, but without Chris. I think in Stevie's eyes, 'Say You Will' was a bit of an experiment -- "can we pull this off without Christine?" And I think, for Stevie at least, that the answer proved to be "no."
Personally, I love the album, but I do agree that the Mac's sound was missing it's "gelling agent" without Christine.

Yeah, Stevie's unhappiness isn't new. She's been missing Christine from the beginning, while Lindsey has been making out in the back wit his 33.3% more space. Touring and recording for her is less fun without Chris. I personally LOVE Say You Will, both Lindsey's AND Stevie's. I do see the two solo albums thing, two great solo albums, or maybe a BuckinghamNicks album with an AWSEOME rythym section, well awseome bass playing at least, Mick's ususal signiture awseome drumming is really non existent on SYW, while John has some of his best bass playing ever.
As far as how Stevie feels about Lindsey's job on her songs. I love what he did to Thrown Down, but am not sure about the rest. She really did her two worst songs on tour consistently, dropping probably one of her 3 best in Destiny Rules. Stevie said in a few interviews that Illume was her favorite song. I kind of agree, and am hoping wishfully that it not being played was maybe because 9/11 was just 2 years ago at the time and if they toured again all the time removed might allow for them to do it. I'd LOVE if they did Illume. Now that's just my wishful thinking as to why it wasn't played.

I have said time and time again - that La Nicks went back to FM at all after Bella Donna defies any explanation other than sure loyalty to the band. She surely did not need them. And, why should she go? By all accounts, they treated her with disrespect and poorly, treatment I suggest she did not get in her solo ventures. I suppose she needed them for the comeback in The Dance. But, she had her crystal vision back by then and I think she could have made a comeback on her own, though likely less of one than facilitated by The Dance. After all, SC and the Smashing Pumpkins, two huge names at the time, recorded her or her songs - and she had written some stellar things like Love Is, TISL, and Twisted, which showed a return to her talent. So, I think La Nicks thought the same for SYW as the others outside of The Dance, which was I'll do this because I truly love these people and let's see what happens. She, once again, certainly did not need to go back to FM.
In the end, I think she has found peace with the Mac and she truly believes that one day they might do something again. But, for now, she done and I think that is cool considering how much of herself she gave to a group that treated her like a lesser talent.
I think LB also is done with the Mac. I think he is happy knowing he will never achieve any comparatively successful commercial success. I think he is happier now with his own thing, which he has been doing for like two years now. So, kudos to him for finally biting the bullet and running from the cover of the machinery of the Mac to do his pwn thing. Tins of respect for him for that!

Ahhh, I really enjoyed POTU and Bombay Sapphires during the TISL shows, *sigh* It would be so cool if Stevie could just throw in POTU for the CV set after Chris Isaak gets done opening for her.
(for all we know, what Stevie is doing is generating some public interest/debate over FM to start stirring up interest again). Maybe Stevie can pull it off by convincing Christine to join FM again, who knows. I guess if there was one person in FM that had the slightest chance in hell to get Christine back, its Stevie since they were so close in the band.

Stevie Nicks built a beloved body of work within and without Fleetwood Mac—but success had a steep price. As a new greatest-hits album chronicles her solo success, the mysterious superstar takes stock on her life and music.
The weather is gray, windy and, as Stevie Nicks notes, “a little creepy” outside her home overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
“I call it the ‘amoeba fog,” she says, looking out from the living room of her Los Angeles home. “It sticks right to the coast. You might as well be in Seattle or London for several months out of the year. It suit me sometimes, but after it’s been that way for a couple of week, I start to go, ‘OK, I’d like to see the blue sky.”
Nicks is well acquainted with both the clouds and the blue sky of L.A. A native of Phoenix (she also keeps a house there), she moved to L.A. from San Francisco with guitarist and then-paramour Lindsey Buckingham in 1971. On New Year’s Eve 1974, both were asked to join Fleetwood Mac—and alongside keyboardist Christine McVie, bass player John McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood, they helped to turn a British blues-rock warhorse into one of the best-selling and most influential bands in pop history.
Nicks became the group’s breakout star, thanks to her striking beauty, dusky alto and magnetic stage presence—but perhaps most of all her talents as a writer. Songs like “Dreams,” “Rhiannon,” “Sara” and “Gold Dust Woman” rang out as evocative, impressionistic transmissions from a parallel world a little more vivid and romantic than our own. Through a poetic lens, she examined femininity, mythology and love—particularly the disintegration and aftermath of her relationship with Buckingham.
In the spring of 1980, Nicks began work on her first solo album. The intervening years have seen her build a persona, fan base and musical legacy that stands apart from the mighty Mac. Hits like “Edge of Seventeen,” “Stand Back” and “Talk to Me” provided a constant reminder that Nicks was a singer and songwriter whose talents went much father than her contributions to the band she could never completely abandon. Those songs and a bounty of others chosen by Nicks herself are now collected on a new compilation album, Crystal Visions… The Very Best of Stevie Nicks. As dusk settled over L.A. and the “amoeba fog” clung stubbornly to the coast, we asked Nicks, 58, to describe her creative process, recount her journey through music and predict the future of Fleetwood Mac.
This is your second greatest-hits collection. How did you pick songs for Crystal Visions?
When you’re doing this kind of package, you go back to the singles. But I tried to make this different. “Landslide” and “Edge of Seventeen” with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra went on in place of the recorded versions at first. You better have a really good in-place-of if you’re not going to use the record version. But then I decided to put the real “Edge of Seventeen” on, too, since I could fit it. So there’s “Edge of Seventeen” from the very beginning and “Edge of Seventeen” from last year. I thought that was an interesting turn-the-page from one lifetime to another.
You’ve talked about your “song vault.” Every album you make seems to include at least a couple of songs that go back a few years.
I do try to go back and pick up as many of the standout songs as I can. I was reading the article about John Mayer in your magazine [November 2006], and he was talking about the fact that when a song doesn’t get recorded, it just goes out into space. Sometimes you later realize that song was a lot better that the one that made the record. So you try to go back and pick that song up at some point.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/stevienicksinfo/07_0601_performing_200_04.jpg
At this point in your career, there are certain songs that your audience would be disappointed if you didn’t perform. Do you ever get tired of those?
After you’ve been doing this as long as I have, you have a certain repertoire. You know there are certain songs people want to hear. You’re not going to throw out “Rhiannon,” because people are gonna walk out and go, “I can’t believe she didn’t do ‘Rhiannon.’” So you have to figure out a way to summon that passion. I reach down and pull out the emotion that led me to write the song in the beginning. With that, they’re not hard to sing. I can always enjoy them. And if I start to get tired of one of them, I drop it. There have been times when I’ve dropped “Gold Dust Woman” or “Dreams.” I can’t drop all of them, but I can drop one here and there.
Why did you revise the lyrics to “Rhiannon”?
How did I revise them?
There are several differences in the recording and the way you do it live. For example, on the original, Rhiannon is “taken by the wind.” By the early 1980s, she was “taken by the sky.”
Oh, you know what? I don’t think I purposely did that. Sometimes I just go off. Those words probably evolved out of my solo work. When I have my two girls with me , we do all these things I don’t do that much in Fleetwood Mac. That is a difference in Fleetwood Mac and my solo work. In the Mac, I’m part of a team, so I try not to stand out as much. I blend in more, because I’m one of the charmed three. In my own work, I’m just me. When Lori and Sharon and I are singing, we’re able to be more out there, more spacey, more flamboyant.

Do you generally write on piano?
Pretty much. The piano, for some reason, holds a real fascination for me. I’m not a very good player, and I play in a weird sort of way. I don’t really play chords. I sound like a second-grader but play good enough to write. Even the total childlike renderings that I come up with, I can hear them orchestrated in my head. “Rhiannon” is just like (sings melody) dun-dun-dun, dun-dun-dun-dun, it’s this little simple thing. But when I was writing it, I could hear what it could be.
What kind of piano do you have now?
I have a nine-foot white Steinway that was played on the road for years by Billy Preston, Leon Russell and other famous people, I’m told. It has a certain sound that’s very Leon Russell-Dr. Hon, that very tinkly kind of sound. Then I have a Bosendorfer that is like a big black cat. It’s a seven-foot grand. These pianos take up so much room that you can’t even have living room furniture, but they’re my babies. “Edge of Seventeen,” “Stand Back” and “Dreams,” all of my songs I’ve pretty much written on these two pianos. Each brings out something different in me, because they sound different.
Let’s go back to the beginning of your solo career. Why did you decide to make your first solo album, Bella Donna [1981]?
Simply to have another vehicle for my songs. The reason was not ever because I wanted to be a big solo artist. I was very interested in continuing to be in my band. I loved being in Fleetwood Mac. But when there are three writers [Nicks, Buckingham and Christine McVie each contributed songs more of less equally to Fleetwood Mac], you can only get three or four songs on a record. For me as a writer, that started to become hard.
What do you recall about the making of the album?
We rented Bill Cosby’s house in the Palisades. We worked for about two months with [keyboardist] Benmont Tench, Lori and Sharon in the living room at the grand piano every day. We played and sang all the songs on Bella Donna over and over until we had them down perfect. It was so much fun. We were like Joni Mitchell and Crosby, Stills & Nash, living in this great house and making music in [L.A.’s] Laurel Canyon. It was one of those real rock ‘n’ roll experiences that you can ever forget. Then we went into the studio, and the record only took three months because we were so rehearsed and practiced and excited—and not spoiled rotten, not self-indulgent. By the time the record came out, Fleetwood Mac was tapping their feet like, “Where the hell are you?” So I only did 12 shows and flew to Paris the next day to join Fleetwood Mac for [the recording of 1982’s] Mirage.
What was your attitude going into your second solo album, The Wild Heart [1983]?
Bella Donna had done really well, so we had more confidence. But during Wild Heart I was coming to the end of my [romantic] relationship with [producer] Jimmy Iovine, so that was really sad. I was working with Jimmy, and that was hard. I had already gone through the whole Lindsey-and-Stevie thing, and now here I was back in another situation where I was working with somebody that I had loved and the relationship had started to fall apart.
Why is that?
Mostly because of drugs. Jimmy was not a drug user or a drinker, and the whole world was turning into a bunch of drug addicts at that point. It was heartbreaking for him, because everybody around him was starting to cave in. The Wild Heart was a hard record to do, and by the time we got to Rock a Little [1985] he had had it. I didn’t blame him. I understood. On Rock a Little, we were really slipping into darkness.
[B]How does Rock a Little sound to you now?
There are some really good things on Rock a Little. There are also parts where I go, “What were you thinking?” Did you really think that was good ? But that was toward the end of my cocaine habit. Everybody was crazy at that point. When you’re rich, famous and a drug addict and you’re trying to your music … I was always planning to quit, I was always making plans to change my life, and it just didn’t happen because we never had a day off. We were always working. I knew at the beginning of the Rock a Little tour that I wanted to go into rehab. I had already booked this seven-month tour, but I knew that the second the tour was over in October that I would be going straight into the Betty Ford Center.
Most people who say, “In seven months I’m going into rehab,” wind up never going at all.
Right, they don’t. But my poor little nose had fallen apart. I went to a plastic surgeon, and he said, “Your nose is in trouble, and you’d better be careful. You could have a brain hemorrhage and die.” I was terrified. But I wasn’t gonna cancel my tour, so I decided I was just going to walk a tightrope for the next six months. And I did. I took as good care of myself as I could, and I did as little of that stuff as I could possibly do to get through it. Then when the tour was over I went home, got in the car and rove to Palm Springs. I walked into Betty Ford going, “Here I am, fix me.”
How did you feel when you finished rehab?
I came out in great shape. I was happy, drug-free and looked incredible, if I do say so myself. The problem came with the rest of the world saying I should either go to Alcoholics Anonymous or to a psychiatrist. I was saying, “Listen, I’m not an alcoholic, and I’m not to a psychiatrist because I’m not crazy. Get off my back.” But people didn’t get off my back. They kept bugging me. So one day I said, “Alright, I’ll go see a psychiatrist.” And it’s too bad, because if I hadn’t gone to see this doctor I would have had a much better life. This guy decided that he was going to be the reason that I wouldn’t return to coke. So he put me on a drug called Klonopin [a tranquilizer in the Valium family]. This drug is subtle. You take it and you don’t really feel it that much. You feel a little calmer. But over a period of time, it starts to fog your brain.
How did it affect your artistic output?
Lucky me, I had written the song for The Other Side of the Mirror [1989] before the Klonopin kicked in. I was very happy with them, and still am. I really love that record. Somewhere out on that tour the stuff kicked in and brought me to my knees. I folded into the couch. I’ve read through my writings from that time, and I would just be writing about nothing. Pages and pages of … nothing . That was a very sad period of my life. This guy continued to up my dose over an eight-year period. I will never quite understand how somebody can do that to another person. If I could have just not gone to that doctor, I figure I could have done two or three more really, really good solo records. Those eight years were totally stolen from me. That was worse than the cocaine years, because at least during those years I did something that I considered valuable.
How did you get off Klonopin?
I walked into the psychiatrist’s office for the last time in 1993 and said, “I’m going to a hospital, you asshole.” He’s going, “I don’t think you should do that. We can drop your dose a bit.” I said, “You go f*ck yourself, you bastard.” And I went straight to a hospital. I believe that had I not done that, I would have been dead within a year. I went into rehab for 47 days. I went through the worst detox, and I nearly died there.
So where does the making of Street Angel [1994] fall in relation to that period?
It was done in the very end of that era of my life. When I came out of rehab, I was listening to this record going, “Oh my god, this cost a lot of money, it’s not good and I hate it. We can’t put this out.” So I went in for six weeks and tried to fix it, but it was like making a dress—you cut it to a certain length, and you cannot put the length back in. You can’t get the fabric back. I was screwed. There was really nothing I could do. We put it out. By the time I came off that tour, all the songs from Street Angel had been dropped from the set list and I almost never spoke of it again. I don’t listen to it. I don’t even want to hear it.
By contrast, Trouble in Shangri-La [2001] seems like…
I’m back! (Laughs) Trouble in Shangri-La was terrific. My world had fallen apart twice now, and I was trying to put it back together this time. It took about three years to make, but when the record was done I was very proud of it. It took a long time, but it was fun.
After that you returned to Fleetwood Mac yet again. How do you look back on the making of Say You Will [2003]?
On Feb. 2, 2002, I went straight from the Trouble in Shangri-La tour into recording with them. It was a nightmare doing that record. It really was Lindsey’s vision, and it wasn’t very much about the other three of us. And of course it was also the first record we had ever attempted to do without Christine [McVie, who left the band in the late 1990s]. Right there, the whole thing was completely insane. She is the magic mediator in that band and always was. She’s the one who made light of everything and made everybody laugh and told us all that we were full of ****. She was the person who made it all work. So when she wasn’t there, that sunk the boat. I don’t think that my friend Chris ever realized how important she was. Without her, it’s a boy’s club. The lack of Christine is a big, hollow hole in my heart.
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c178/stevienicksinfo/07_06010_performing_03.jpg
Would you be willing to attempt another record without her?
Absolutely not. Not in this lifetime. Why? We already tried, and it did not work. My thing is, somebody convince Christine to come back and do this one more time. I don’t think she’s going to change her mind, but stranger things have happened.
Do you have plans for another solo album?
I’m always writing, so I would be lying to say I wouldn’t love to. But I don’t have a lot of faith about what’s going on in the music business right now. I have a 15-year-old niece who is incredibly talented and beautiful, and she sings and she writes. Is there even a place for her? The idea that all these talented kids are out there writing incredible songs that are never going to see the light of day makes me nauseous. So we have to be really optimistic and believe that there is a god, and God will not have a world without music. Let’s all just say a prayer that the music will be saved.
What has sustained you through all these years in such a brutal business?
I love to entertain. If Lindsey and I had broken up and not done that first Fleetwood Mac record, I would have still done my music in my own small way. I’d be playing in clubs now, because my music is what I love. No matter what, I would have still been doing this. I’m an entertainer at heart. ■
INSIDE THE SONG
”Rhiannon”
Nicks wrote “Rhiannon” several months before joining Fleetwood Mac, inspired by a character of the same in Mary Leader’s book Triad. The original demo, recorded by Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, takes the song at a much faster clip than the version that would appear on Fleetwood Mac’s 1975 self-titled album and reach No. 11 on Billboard’s pop singles chart. “It wasn’t exactly the song it is today, but it’s similar,” Nicks says.
Nicks learned that the name “Rhiannon” dates back to the Mabinogion, a medieval Welsh book of wisdom. Nicks says she had written around 20 more songs based on Mabinogion myths over the last three decades, around which she hopes to eventually build a fantasy movie musical. “They’re these amazing stories of Rhiannon and all the gods and goddesses of her gang,” she says. “I’ve been working on it in my heart ever since I wrote ‘Rhiannon.’”
INSIDE THE MUSIC
“Silver Springs”
Nicks write “Silver Springs” for Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album Rumours, but the song was cut at the last minute and tucked away instead as the B-side of the hit “Go Your Own Way.” It was a decision that deeply disappointed the song’s creator (it was restored on the 2004 Rumours reissue). When the Mac’s most famous lineup reunited for the 1997 concert album and MTV special The Dance, the song was revived and became a hit after 20 years.
Nicks’ mother, Barbara, suggested to her that “Silver Springs” be included on her daughter’s new greatest-hits album, Crystal Visions…The Very Best of Stevie Nicks. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Nicks had long ago gifted her mother with the song’s publishing rights—so it’s Barbara who will collect the songwriting royalties. “I said, ‘You’re a very smart woman girl, Mom,’” Nicks recalls with a chuckle. “The reason I really did this is that my mom is 79, and having that song on this package makes her a part of this.”

What on earth is she talking about?  There is more opportunity today for someone's song to be heard than in her era. And I have far more important things to pray for. I love Stevie, but this is probably the most annoying thing she has ever said.

Sorry pal but this is just a crock of doodie. She sure as hell needed one of them. No names. :] If Miss Stevie didn't need the band to bolster her solo career she would have quit earlier. She finally did ya know. It wasn't as if she went down with the ship like the Brits did. She bailed on them in the bitter end only to return when her lifeline did. nuff said.

I had already gone through the whole Lindsey-and-Stevie thing,Bwaha. You know, that whole part doesn't really make sense, because she was married going into the Wild Heart album. Surely at that point she had already broken up with Jimmy. If not, he definitely didn't leave her because of drugs. ;)
There are some really good things on Rock a Little. There are also parts where I go, “What were you thinking?” Did you really think that was good ? What, you don't like The Nightmare, Stevie?

Half of the stuff she has said in this fabulous article makes no sense. LOL
What kind of freaking psychiatrist would tell her "I don't think that is a good idea" when she asks to get off a benzo??? Most, if not all, would say it was a great idea to detox in a hospital. She is such a goofy lady.
I love her vague answer about a solo album. The comments about SYW strike me as catty but I think she has her reasons for making them.
The whole "lets say a prayer for music" is one of the ditziest things she has said in awhile. She isn't too keen on recording a solo album because of the state of the music business and she isn't too keen on a FM album because Christine has retired.
Mmkay Stevie.

But I am with her on the music business thing though, and I know you're not. We've had this discussion before, but I really fear what's going to happen to music in general with the way things are going in this day and age. I'm not specifically talking about artists not being given a chance anymore, I'm just saying that the world seems to be going by faster and faster every day and people pay less attention to the stops along the way. They need a quick fix and move on to something else just as fast. In the long run few bands and/or artists will exist for a longer period of time because of that. Even Lindsey has addressed this by saying that in the old days record labels allowed artists to lounge around for a bit, didn't matter if they didn't bring out albums back to back, they still had the support. That's impossible these days.

Well, I think the music industry has clearly changed. It is probably not as easy to make a lot of money from one's music. But it seems to me that there are more opportunities than ever for someone to get their music heard and to develop a following. I truly have no idea what Stevie is talking about.

I truly have no idea what Stevie is talking about. In her defense, like it was established somewhere else, she's a little old-fashioned, so she might not even be aware of all these other opportunities. You're right on the money (pun intended) when it comes to artists having to work harder to become rich these days. And I suspect that's a big stinger in Stevie's case also, which might be clouding her judgement, but I can't fault her for it considering where she came from. I'm not saying she needs the money, she probably doesn't feel like she does either, but fact of the matter is that piracy is not an artist's best friend, if only in terms of record sales. That's why she thinks the internet is one big evil thing.
There may be more opportunities for an artist to release their work and create a following, but no way in hell is a band/artist ever going to have something going on like the Beatles or the Stones or [insert any big influential band here] anymore. And that is rather sad if you think about it.

What kind of freaking psychiatrist would tell her "I don't think that is a good idea" when she asks to get off a benzo??? Most, if not all, would say it was a great idea to detox in a hospital. She is such a goofy lady.Never doubt the complete arrogance of some doctors and their refusal to admit they're wrong. We had been trying to tell my Grandmother's (now former) doctor for some time that he had her on too high a dose of insulin, but he insisted he didn't. Her sugar would drop down to the 60s and he'd insist it was happening because she wasn't eating properly (even though she was). He even once claimed she was "probably having a heart attack" because she had gotten weak and passed out.
Well, I don't know about him, but I've never seen a heart attack that cures itself with a glass of orange juice and half a sandwich.
And don't get me started on one of my mother's idiot doctors -- another arrogant SOB who'd never admit he was wrong. He about killed her with all of his "well, we'll give it two more weeks and see how you're doing then" and "let's just give it a month more before we run these other tests."
At any rate, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Stevie's doctor did tell her they could simply wean her slowly instead of her needing to go to detox.

Why don't we set Friday aside as the Ledge World Day Of Prayer For The Survival Of Music? :)
I am NOT wearing a white column dress/toga and chanting in a field - no matter HOW much you beg :p

They need a quick fix and move on to something else just as fast.Plus, every industry analyst has stated that the demise of CDs is imminent and that the 2007 holiday season will probably be their last gasp.
I love the ability to sit down in front of my computer and download a song in an instant, but there's also something to be said for actually owning a physical copy of a CD, with the artwork and liner notes, etc. And that's probably all going to go by the wayside.
But even beyond that, not everyone owns an iPod or uses iTunes (surprise, surprise)... so where will those people be left, when CDs die out the way that LPs, 8-tracks and cassettes have? Some don't even have the internet (or use it for much more than emailing).
A lot of the new music my parents hear, is only because my brother and I use the internet. They'd never hear it if they had to rely on radio play, and not everyone can afford a Sirius subscription.
So, yeah, there are MORE outlets to get your music heard now, but being that it's so technology-dependent, a lot of potential listeners are excluded. Especially for older-skewing artists like Stevie.
Because of the fragmentation, bigtime labels like Warner Bros are more desperate than ever to find "the next big thing," and as soon as you don't deliver -- you're gone.
Independent labels are far more artist-friendly, but they suffer from major distribution problems and lack of promotional muscle.
If I were a nearly 60 years old recording artist, who's been in the music business for nearly 35 years, I think I'd be wondering where I fit in, too.
