ABC has just announced that Rosie O'Donnell will not be back on "The View."

Brian Frons, President of ABC Daytime, issued the following statement:

"We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to 'The View' and wish her well."

Barbara Walters said: "I brought Rosie to the show. Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at "The View." I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."

For her part, Rosie said: "I'm extremely grateful. It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."

gawd this make me mad and sad at the same time, but I understand why Rosie had to say "enough is enough" -

on one hand I wish Rosie had stuck it out, but Elisabeth is such an idiot that there's no way Rosie would've gotten through to her...and I think Rosie recognized that. at least, in the end, Rosie did wake up a ton of people to the idiocy that is our administration. hopefully, before it's too late.

I cannot wait to see the ratings tank. People will tune in Tuesday to watch that nitwit Elizabeth respond but after that? Bye bye viewers. Rosie will get a new show and she will be able to speak her mind, without having to deal with a moron for a cohost. Frump has been badmouthing her again, all over the news channels, calling her "a big fat loser". I am so glad The Apprentice was just canceled. He is almost as annoying as Elizabeth.

I will totally miss Jahero but they are supposedly still going to post blogs once in awhile. Yea! I love Janette and Helene is hilarious. I am bummed we won't get our last three Monday morning blogs but I am glad Rosie walked. She was miserable and deserves to be treated better.

Politically, I lean towards Rosie's side. But Elizabeth often presented fair counter-arguments that were articulated well. So I respect both of these women. I don't, however, think Rosie should have broken her contract and left early. I am a firm believer of finishing strong and bowing out gracefully. Rosie has contributed substantially to the show, but she will only be perceived as a quitter now.

Jason, she always takes questions. Her blog is pretty cool and she is very interactive. Watch her live blog she just posted with Helene. It's hysterical. Janette is in the "naughty chair" for drawing a mustache on EH's photo at the View. She occassionally turns off her questions but it is usually only for a few hours or a day or something. She seems to really enjoy chatting with people. Some of the fuc#tards that write to her suck and she always says the coolest **** back to them. She will call them "**** stain" or whatever else she feels like it. I love Rosie!

Hmmm...so it seems, according to her recent blog updates, as though she was feeling played by the executive producer, Bill Geddie, with whom she says she did not get along. The split-screen, the not cutting to commercial, the selection of war-related "Hot Topics"...all happened conveniently during May sweeps. To me, it sounds as though they were trying to conjure up some Rosie controversy, and for that, she felt betrayed.

In the latest video on her blog, Rosie compared the situation to working on Broadway. In theatre, she said, there is a sense of teamwork...when one person mistakes, everyone else is there to cover for it and to support one another. That didn't happen on "that show," she said.

So it seems that it wasn't necessarily the feud with EH that was her sole reason for leaving...but the fact that it was almost orchestrated, and then how it was allowed to play out, with the split-screen and no break for commercials.

She is one of the biggest philathropists in this country, giving away a huge percentage of her income each year. Callling another human being a "cow" is really cold. I also wonder why you are even watching or reading her blog if you hate her so much. She is not the perpetual victim, she just tries to defend herself from being misquoted, misunderstood, misrepresented and betrayed. I guess she should just sit back and allow news agencies to misrepresent her thoughts??

Personally, I cannot wait for the View ratings to drop back down. (20 percent increase since Rosie came onboard) Obviously The View is not really about sharing one's views....

And as much as I hate to say it, I think that Joy probably had something to do with it too, originally. She was the one who brought up the reasons why GWB is terrible...and when I watched it, I thought that kind of came out of nowhere.

But then once things started to get out of hand, she seemed irked by how it was being handled.

I wonder if Rosie feels betrayed by Joy at all...

wow. you really don't like her. I'm curious though why you think it's appropriate to call her a "cow" - it always baffles me that people who don't agree with another person's point of view immediately turn to calling that person names that don't have anything to do with the person's point of view. like, if I was having an argument over global warming, calling me a redneck doesn't really suit the argument, does it? so, making a derogatory reference to her weight doesn't really fit anything except showing that you resorted to calling her the name you think would hurt the most. I mean, you didn't call her a flaming liberal democrat...you called her a cow. it's your business and I guess you have your reasons why you don't like her, but calling her a cow is exactly what she was saying people would say.

how is she a perpetual victim?

The only place she has even addressed this issue is her own blog. She is not doing interviews, she is not answering questions, she is not calling up Larry King (trump style) and she is not being interviewed by Extra like Elizatwit. She is hardly going on and on about this. The media is posting entries she made in her own blog...uh, everyone posts about their life in their blog, don't they???? She always makes little video clips so she made one about the View and it was really nothing about the fight. She is often the victim, as people who do not like her views resort to calling her names and degrading her as a human being. Trump, Bill O'Reilly, "cow comments". It is not hard to see why she is down about the whole thing.

She was the one who brought up the reasons why GWB is terrible...and when I watched it, I thought that kind of came out of nowhere. That hadn't crossed my mind, but you're probably right. She was part of some agenda.

I'm not about to call her a cow (I hate most, if not all of the insults I've seen on TV and elsewhere), but I think she was acting extremely childish. I watched the whole thing on YouTube just so I could see exactly how it started, etc. and I thought both of them needed to just drop it. I couldn't believe how it kept going, and it was clear that they needed to go to a commercial break or just agree to have it out later. I've never watched this show before, but Elizabeth struck me as somewhat stupid, yet I could see her point--Rosie did insinuate that she viewed the troops were terrorists. She didn't say it; she insinuated it, but that's really all it takes. And then for no apparent reason, she bitched incessantly at Elizabeth for not defending her. Not only should that have been a private discussion, I don't see how in the world Elizabeth should be expected to defend her. Call her out for implying that the enemy is in Iraq and that we needed to attack Iraq, but stop making it personal. I thought it was ludicrous and a waste of time to watch as well as a complete waste of time on news shows the following couple of days (however entertaining those were to watch).

I do think Rosie enjoys playing the victim, and that argument was a prime example. I don't think that makes her a horrible person, but I do think it's immature. Watching the argument made me almost dislike her where I was neutral before. However, if she has enlightened viewers about political matters on that show, then good for her.

My opinion on Rosie is that she is brave. She stands up for what she believes in and isn't afraid of what people will think of her. I believe that this situation was a bit too much for her as no one wants to be misinterpreted in that way. I definitely don't always agree with her, and her delivery is sometimes harsh (though I'm from Long Island originally, so maybe that's why she doesn't bother me as much?), but I think all in all she's a good person.

My thought is that once the argument got started, it was hard to stop (for EH and Rosie, both). We all know how it is to be passionate about something and how difficult it can be to STOP arguing. I think the producers absolutely should have cut to commercial, rather than keep it going with a split screen. But hate her or love her, Rosie brought those producers a lot of money and that's what matters to them.

The comments from people (not necessarily only on this site, but elsewhere too) come from having nothing better to say. It's easy to call someone a fat cow/dyke/whatever. And honestly, I imagine she's heard worse. :(

You should read her Q and A's on her blog. She posts good and bad questions and alot of people are just downright brutal to her. She always has a good comeback. She just got called a "cow" yesterday as a matter of fact. I just read one from a guy who asked her if she was a "tranny" to which she replied "yes I am, are you looking for a date?".
It is unfair for people to watch the incident from Wed. on youtube and form an opinion about what happened. This whole thing started on Monday between EH and RO and continued into Tuesday. Rosie was saying on her blog that she was hearing that producers were talking to EH all weekend long...perhaps encouraging some big blow up for Sweeps. It finally came to a head on Wednesday. Rosie never insinuated our troops were terrorists and the whole argument was because EH did not say anything when Fox News misquoted Rosie. I do not see anything wrong with expecting a friend to speak up when you are being misrepresented.

I can't believe I care this much about this inane show, but I found this (which I suppose someone posted already)--

O’DONNELL: I just want to say something. 655,000 Iraqi civilians are dead. Who are the terrorists?

HASSELBECK: Who are the terrorists?

O’DONNELL: 655,000 Iraqis -- I'm saying you have to look, we invaded --

HASSELBECK: Wait, who are you calling terrorists now? Americans?

O’DONNELL: I'm saying if you were in Iraq, and the other country, the United States, the richest in the world, invaded your country and killed 655,000 of your citizens, what would you call us?

HASSELBECK: Are we killing their citizens or are their people also killing their citizens?

O’DONNELL: We're invading a sovereign nation, occupying a country against the U.N.

I understand exactly what she's saying, and I couldn't agree more. But I think it's still clear that one could interpret that she thinks of the troops as terrorists. That is certainly implied, and I don't see how anyone could argue that it's implied (given that excerpt, at least...but it seems like that excerpt's enough).

Perhaps (and this is really just an assumption) she's afraid to really say what she means because it would mean a professional suicide to admit that she does view the troops as terrorists in addition to thinking that the Iraqis probably feel that way.

I didn't see it, but I don't doubt that FAUX News misquoted her. But I don't think they even needed to, because someone could interpret her in the way they find so offensive anyway, and easily.

And no, I don't see anything wrong with expecting a friend to speak up when someone has accused you of something, but I do think it's unnecessary to broadcast your grievances on TV. The whole exchange started out as a discussion of politics (maybe) but quickly devolved into a cat fight I found reminiscent of my high school years.

I agree... The troops only do what they are told... It's obvious she was insinuating the US government would be considered the terrorists, if you look at it from the Iraqi angle. Her point is if you invade a country and kill their people, what are you called? If some other country invaded the US or any other country, they themselves would be considered the bad guy - or terrorists. And the argument that Sadam was evil and the reason for going in doesn't hold... Yes he killed tons of his own people, and should be stopped, but there are alot of evil rulers of countries... why not invade them too, or why haven't they been invaded before... North Korea comes to mind or pick any number of African countries that have committed crimes against their people. I don't know... To me it seemed like there was an agenda in her last days to discredit her of her views.

The troops only do what they are told...I can't help but feel that this is a cop out on some level or another. Children often just do what they're told, good or bad, and are absolved from any kind of responsibility because they don't know any better. I don't think adults have that luxury. And I know I'm oversimplifying it, but I think you are as well.

It's obvious she was insinuating the US government would be considered the terrorists, if you look at it from the Iraqi angle. It's obvious to some. Those who don't understand what she was getting at won't (and didn't) take that from it. I think she was just vague enough to leave it open for misinterpretations, whether she wanted that or not.

Kelly

Actually she is not vague. She spells out exactly how she feels all the time. On her website, on the View. She has been saying for months that the US is a bully, who invaded another nation. She pointed out that from the Iraqi's viewpoint, we are terrorists. All of us. The US. The government. She could not make her view point any more clear...she has answered direct questions about it for weeks. She also has done quite a bit to help the soldiers and their families, from donating her time, her energy, her money..etc. Her actions speak for themselves but she has always said she loves the troops and just wants them home. If you take one quote, out of context, of course it could fit the Republican agenda and make her look like she is against the troops and believes they are the terrorists.

I feel sorry for her. For someone to be so passionate and so generous, it must really be disheartening to be so misunderstood.

For someone to be so passionate and so generous, it must really be disheartening to be so misunderstood.Obviously I don't know about all of that because I can hardly stand to watch the show or her, but yes, her actions and her words, from what you've said here, make her point clearly. In that case, those who took the quote I posted here and knew well what other statements she has made and all that she has done had an agenda and wanted to skew her message. I can't help but feel sorry for her in that case; the media and the obnoxious Republican pundits are trying to ruin her career.

I still think the exchange was really annoying and superfluous and I still think she was being immature (as was Hasslebeck, no doubt). And if Hasslebeck knew the whole story (not just the bit that I watched) then it was that much more absurd for her to say that Rosie was unclear.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but why make such a big deal over just another entertainer's opinion? So she thinks this or that.... It always bugged me that people give such credence to opinions voiced by those, just because they are famous. I find better informed folks here on the Ledge, yet no one is quoting them. The only thing that is worse is the continual media coverage of the likes of Paris Hilton. Another "who cares" she is just another famous for being famous type. Why not give media attention to "REAL" stories rather than these. and now.....

Oh - Rosie is NOT MISUNDERSTOOD! She has been very clear. It is THE IDIOTS that twist her words and "cherry pick" reality that want her to be misunderstood.

Attention is paid to what the famous say because they have a platform where they can reach millions and millions of people, and have an affect on people on a large scale - unlike us on The Ledge... Those that don't like what she speaks of then have to take her to task and knock her down.. and on... and on... and on.

But WHY are they getting so much media hype? (I know the answer but just find it silly). The average public should not place so much attention on this crap. Who cares if they are famous? Doesn't mean their opinions are any better than most? Yes, I know how the public is, just wish they would wake-up. There is so much more out there worth paying attention too, rather than this. But it will never happen..... We are such silly, stuiped creatures.

LOL, I agree with that. It must suck though, to be constantly misquoted, degraded, insulted, etc.

Elizatwit said today on the View that she was in "'constant" communication with Rosie this weekend and that their 'friendship had begun the process of healing". Rosie says on her blog that Elizabeth actually talked only to Kelli, on the phone. EH did email Rosie and Rosie says she responded but she claims that is the only communication they have had. One back and forth email. Why is EH trying to act like they are patching things up?? Barbara Walters did seem genuinely sad that Rosie was gone.....perhaps she is just sad because she realizes her ratings are going to nose dive. :o
