I've been going to concerts for over forty years now. Every so often the experience is spoiled by some whack-job or two in the audience. Last night it was these two guys behind me who talked throughout the entire show. When I politely asked them to lower their voices, one of them got down right nasty and verbally abusive. I won't go into the what he said and what I said but I did keep my cool and managed not to respond in kind. I have found that a soft answer may not always "turneth away wrath" but it does keep the situation from escalating.

What boggles my mind is how down-right rude and mean some people can be when confronted with the fact that their behavior is inappropriate and offensive to others. I've had beer spilled all over me any number of times and when I complain they either call me names or try to blame me for it. At an Eagles concert a couple of years ago, one out-of-control woman (also drunk) almost cold-cocked me and the guy in front of me and when we both complained she tried to jump me-her friend who pulled her off me said, she was grieving over the recent death of her brother.

Last fall, at one of Lindsey's solo concerts, a woman beside me shushed me when I was singing along with one of his slow songs and I immediately apologized and stopped. It's this simple: Just because you paid x number of dollars to see someone perform doesn't mean it entitles you to act like a jerk and ignore other people's reasonable requests.

Just needed to vent. 99% of the time everything is great it's just those times when people violate all rules of a decent society that it makes me wonder what on earth drives humans to act so unkindly toward others.

yep.

when I was in Berkeley last year seeing Stevie and Tom a biotch in front of me would not shut up and stop standing in her seat. everyone was asking her nicely. then she said a few choice words to me that were not cool. so, at the end of the night, I threw my gum in her hair and walked calmly out. I can only imagine how long it took her to get it out or if she had to cut it out. I should feel bad, but I don't.

I wouldn't advise anyone to do something like that, but she deserved it. :wavey:

yep x's 2!! That is the reason why my husband refuses to go to anymore concerts with me--because of the rude and obnoxious people  At the Tom show we went to two guys in front of us talked all night about work and such--the thing that ticked me off is that they knew I was trying to take pictures and they kept putting their heads together blocking my view--I was beginning to think they were doing it on purpose  We went to a Guns N' Roses show that had to have been the worst experience I've had at a concert in a while--there was some guy that was so drunk he kept falling all over people and was scream singing throughout most of the show. And I don't mean singing along--I meaning screaming at the top of his lungs. The thing that ticked me off was that security was watching him all night and did nothing--I mean he kept walking back and forth in the aisles falling all over people and they just let him--jerks!!

I don't blame your husband. I'm still P.O.d about those two guys even though I chose to ignore them and have a good time anyway. As for drunks, they are an entirely different story. Alcohol and concerts don't mix.

Security is usually just people who part-time it and they either go too far or not far enough. I don't even bother reporting obnoxious people as it doesn't do any good and you spend half the concert relating who did what to whom and miss the best part of the show. I've been there.

Here's hoping Soboba will be better.

Peace

I'll let you know.

Are you going to any concerts this tour. I know some people are not because of ticket prices and what not. It was an awesome show in terms of her being "there". She really did seem to be enjoying herself. I only wish that Petty had come out to do a number. What surprised me was that Mick wasn't there as he usually shows up for her L.A. shows? Has every time that I've been there. Was surprised that Taku and Brett were not there but am looking forward to seeing them with Lindsey in June for three shows. Everyone was kindda wondering which one of the two Brett and Taku would play with as both are touring through June.

Hahaha, which reminds me...after I couldn't get down into the pit, instead of going back to my fifth row center seat and having to climb all over people, I stayed on the aisle in the fourth row. I called my friend down to come join me so we could stand together for the rest of the encore. OH MY GOD. Did you hear the chick singing to Beauty And The Beast as LOUDLY as she could? She was directly behind my friend and me and people from all over the section were turning to look at her. It was so embarrassing. She was louder than Stevie and then she would scream during the song. Okay, I'm fine with a few "whooo hooos" and all, but screaming during Beauty And The Beast? YIKES!

Heh.

I was at a show at the Continental Club - which only holds around 200 people, and always general admission, SRO. Most people are pretty respectful of each other's space - even if you give up your spot temporarily to get a drink or use the restroom, you can get your spot back. My friend Laura and I were at the stage ALL night. Our knees were touching the stage, our purses and drinks were ON the stage. And Johnny Depp was standing right behind us. Anyway, at around 1:30 AM, this drunk girl came outta nowhere and decided she deserved to be in front of us - and shoved us back so she could. We made a few sarcastic, bitchy comments, but she wouldn't budge. Drunk girl had very long hair, and my friend Laura kept burning the ends of drunk girl's hair w/ her cig.

Carolc, I have had many similar concert experiences and it is one of the reason I don't go to as many as I used to. I was lucky that everyone around me at Stevie last week was very mellow and polite. Usually there is someone singing in my ear, waving their hands in my face, or doing something else obnoxious. At the Madison Square Garden show, I had to move into the aisle because the woman next to me kept taking over my space doing her stupid interpretative dance.

People are just very self-centered and do not pay attention to how their actions affect others.

It isn't just concerts. I went to a play a couple of weeks ago where the guy in front of me actually answered his vibrating cell phone, got up while talking, walked through the row and went out into the lobby. Then he came back (if I were ushering I would have kicked him out, or told him to wait until intermission), and proceeded to tell his friend about the phone call.

I didn't hear the song-bird but what I did hear was two obnoxious guys yelling "I Love You Stevie" "No I Love You More" during the song.

Later on I saw one of these two guys, as he was standing a couple rows in back of me so I knew what he looked like, stumbling around the parking lot looking for his car. He literally feel against the car in front of me mumbling "Where is my car? Where is my car?" I scanned the paper this morning looking to see if he ended up dead at the bottom of the hill as they had our lot exit through the park and the road was a "Nightmare". Switch-backs and poor lighting. Anyone drunk had to have sobered up real quick or went over the edge as I was totally sober and was white-knuckling it the whole time thanking my lucky stars I don't drink at concerts.

RickPT there were three girls to my left, one of whom wore a Stevie-style get-up, dancing up a storm. I'm all for having fun but they were more interested in putting on a show than watching one. I was thankful they were across the aisle from me and not near me.

I hate cell phones. I read a similar story to yours about some clown in Vegas who talked on his cell all night during one of her Caesar shows. Your right most people are selfish but what chaps my hide is rather than apologize for their bad behavior they try and intimidate you into shutting up. I expect it from the high school kids that I teach but not from their parents. Most kids, not all though, are unsocialized still and have a hard time taking "social cues" from those around them. Adults should know better and respect other people's rights.

What a world!

I laugh, but it's not funny, especially for those of us who just want to get out of there safely. It's a hard enough walk up that hill sober. I can't imagine someone trying to hike it drunk. Ahh, The Greek. Great venue, but the parking stinks.

Carol, are you going to see Lindsey on the next leg? I'm going to the HOB on Sunset. Would love to meet and say hi. Your Rod Stewart story about being in the pit not be able to use your camera was interesting. I didn't see him during that tour, but I saw him a couple of years ago and I really liked him. Hope to see you at Lindsey!!

I'm really sorry to hear about all of your all's unfortunate misfortunes.

A couple of years ago My family was at a sporting event once and there was this guy who was totally drunk and we were all standing on our chairs and the guy falls forward and I fly out of the chair and almost knocked the person in front of me. Not cool at all. I turned around and gave him a REEEEEALLLLY dirty look..........

Hopefully none of that in Ohio.

I am going to see Lindsey but at the Anaheim HOBs as its closer to me and is easy on and off the 57. Last nights trek through Griffith Park was harrowing. I don't like driving in L.A. by myself to begin with let alone driving down a treacherous mountain road to boot. As another poster noted parking at the Greek, unless you get there early, sucks. Years ago my ex and I got boxed in and sat there for an hour at least waiting for the people around us to show up and move their cars. Stacked parking is not only dumb but it cost $15 for the pleasure of sitting there praying the other drivers around you find their car before dawn.

Also going to Bakersfield and San Diego. Got 2nd row for San Diego and 1st row Pit for Bakersfield. The funny thing with Bakersfield is they didn't sell the pit tickets until the day after the onsale date. I just happened to get up early Sunday morning and bam up popped front row Pit and the day before all I could get was orchestra. Ticketing is such a crap shoot.

On at the SYW tour show in Sacramento a few college age kids got in some seats next to me which were not their assigned seats and starting talking loudly during Beautiful Child..I politely asked them to stop talking so loudly and they complied ..I havn't had many problems at all and I have been going to shows since Tusk.I do have a pretty strong don't **** with me vibe ..even though I'm really just a laid back old surfer boy .:)

It is not just concerts, people these days are just crude, selfish and oblivious on how to act in public. A day doesn't go by when I have to explain why people shouldn't curse in public or pee on the floor. How I love working with the public.

Definitely SNLB. Did you know that the Hollywood HOBs was supposed to have sold VIP tickets for special seating. The funny thing was the day they went on sale there were none to be had. They were supposed to be $75. I called them just out of idle curiosity and they said they sold out. That seemed odd but okay. Only people with Visa Signature cards were allowed to order. I have one. Like AMEX Gold they do come in handy. They were selling Visa Signature seats got Stevie's San Diego concert but I'm not up for that since there were two concerts right here within an hour's drive of my home.

During her TISL tour I flew here there and everywhere including the AHI show where I actually met her and Mick, her parents, and the guy who runs her fan club. Later I met her brother Chris in San Fran at some small venue where he was actually working the merch booth by himself. Saw Sharon Celani arrive with some guy right through the front door. What a trip that was.

What with 6 Lindsey shows (counting the three I already saw this tour) I could only do 2 Stevie shows. I saw her with Petty at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens last fall and as most people are saying it's the same old set just new outfits and a new more up-beat attitude.

Another incident I can think of which may have been a spoiler for someone but I found entertaining was at the OSOTM show at the Greek in Los Feliz.I was standing in the pit during the begining of the Edge walk and a woman I didn't even know stood on a chair and starting to climb on my shoulders while asking me 'do you mind if I sit here "I thought it was so over the top funny that I actually let her sit on them.

Was that last night? Reason is I saw some girl, looked to fairly young, walking across the seats in the second row trying to get to the stage. She and her friend had originally tried to elbow me out of the way and when that didn't work she took to the chairs.
