View Full Version : Best Stevie Demos

The Chain

Hi everyone. With all the hype from the tour, and just a general case of nostolgia towards Stevie, I've sort of got the urge to start listening to the rarities again. I think I'm going to do some trading, and I just wanted to know from some of the collecting vets., what are your suggestions on the best compilations/collections. The ones that just scream young, mystic Stevie, (melacine, the rhianon songs, etc). Any suggestions would be great, thanks a lot

have a good one

def. the Rhiannon songs, for one.

I'm going to agree with Jaz and say start with the Bella Donna demos, can't go wrong with those.

The Dealer, Lady from the Mountain, and Have no Heart spring to mind. The Dealer must see the light of day, there are plenty of demos of that song that sound excellent to me and could be released.

I'll echo "The Dealer," and I'll add "Christian" and "China Doll," which is my personal favorite.

I really like Space Needle and My Heart. I know they aren't very old, but I adore them.

Definitely The Dealer - there are some versions of it that really rock! My favorite is one from February of '81 (reportedly) where the keyboards are much more pronounced. Castaway is also a good one as is Julia which continues to grow on me.

Is The Dealer released anywhere? It's one of my favorite rare Stevie Songs. I have a few of the "Stevie Demos and Outtakes" on CD and that song is listed, but it isn't a very good quality of recording. Does anyone have a good recording?

I have a pretty extensive collection I think. I don't have every single master and every single demo out there, but I have pretty much everything that's out there. put it this way, when I put "Stevie Nicks" in my iTunes, I get 2100 matches.

Jazzy, you are so generous with your tunes! :xoxo: Nice collection, btw. I looked through and I have a few requests. If you can't or don't want to post all of these, I'd be thrilled with whatever you have time for. I won't be able to download until late tonight or tomorrow though because my work are freaks about downloading anything at work. Here's my wish list:

Page 1 - 4-7-80 Reel w/Tom Petty
Page 14 - Belladonna interviews
Page 30 - Edge of Bootylicious
Page 33 - any of the Sleeping Angel's (your fav)
Page 33 - Stevie Acting Silly through Stevie's Joint Talk on Page 34
Page 34 - Three Birds of Rhiannon
Page 34 - WNEW interviews
Page 35 - Stevie's Drug Talk
Page 63 - Angel (Live Tusk Doc)
Page 95 - Molly Meldrum interviews
Page 108 - RAL Tour interviews
Page 118 - Storytellers questions (track 09)
Page 138 - Wild Heart interviews

Like I said, whatever you can or feel like doing is cool with me. Thanks so much!

Now I just need to figure out a way to get copies of your Stevie/FM DVD collection. What if I buy you a DVD burner and DVD's and send them to you in exchange for a copy of your collection? :)

Basically for each of these, I really love only one version.

- Lady from the Mountain (the one I always call the RAL version, but I know it has another name)
- Sanctuary (the one where she goes "mmmmm" at the bridge)
- The Dealer (the one with oomph to it!)
- Gypsy (the TP one that goes "white nights," I think)
- All the Beautiful Worlds (the more finished one, which always makes me think of how Stevie said she wanted to make a female Commodores sound for BD)
- Julia (same version I'm sure other people like)
- Greta (the one with a stronger beat than the SA version, which is not a favorite)
- Baby Doll (I've heard only one version of this anyway)
- Three Birds of Rhiannon at Piano
- SOTM at piano
- Rhiannon at piano (talking to Richard version)

I don´t know many demos, but of all those I know I like most Love And War, Space Needle.

My next favourite are Something Exquisite, At The Fair, City Of Hope, I Call You Missing and Prettiest Girl In The World too.

I keep thinking of others, so forgive the multiple posts here.
- I prefer the piano on Jane to the keyboard in the SA version, though the vocal and ending harmony are much better on the album.
- Secret Love

sweet...you actually read through all those pages? :xoxo:

this will give me something to do tonight and tomorrow. I'll upload them as I can over the weekend, is that ok? I'll try to get them all up tonight, but can't promise. I'll actually go ahead and get them all sorted on my laptop when I take my break here at work.

and as for the DVD offer, that sounds pretty ****ing sweet. if you're serious, I'm down.

^LMFAO! Yes, I did go through all 140 pages. Can you tell how productive I'm being at work today? Whenever you get a chance, no hurry. Over the weekend is fine with me. I was just sayin' I wouldn't get to DL until later cause I didn't want all of the DL's to be spent on sendspace by the time I got to them. I'll pm you.

There are so many. The master reels are a lot of fun but very repetitive. You've got to listen for that slight variation in the songs. Some are more noticeable than others. As far as sound quality, you can't beat them. Some of the live shows are great, especially some of the earlier soundboards. Without looking up the correct dates, Nashville '77 springs to mind as does Chicago '80 (not sure if this one is audience or SBD). There's always the bastardized Shine Angel and the Stevie boot that has the mix of the Stevie Bella tour and Wild Heart. I'm getting Oldheimer's disease but someone will know what that is called. Also the 2000 AHI benefit is worth checking out for it's fab rock and roll revue feel plus the acoustic version of Gypsy. It's an audience recording, but a good one. Gems, Who's The New Girl, Stevie at the HOB '94 are also good. The clean version of the '86 Red Rocks show is out there. Also, lay your hands on the master that has the first three songs from her last show of that tour in Australia if you can. The US Festival is fab on DVD. Also there is a great raido show called Reflections From The Other Side Of The Mirror that I really enjoy. If you can also get the European press interview she did at that manor on DVD it is very entertaining. I know I will think of more stuff later but hopefully this is enough for you to get started. Oh, don't forget to get the Julia and The Dealer reel CD's. Why these songs, especially Julia have never been released boggles the mind. Have fun! :wavey:
Edited to add don't foget the TISL Sessions. In good faith I will pos a few faves because I love turning people on to the good Stevie. :)
