Don't know if I missed it anywhere, but I didn't see a thread started for Stevie's show from last night at The Greek.

In a word...AWESOME!

I hadn't seen Stevie solo since 1989 so I was excited. I'd seen the set list and was looking forward to hearing mostly everything. My friend and I upgraded our tickets from Terrace (or, balcony, if you will) to center 5th row behind the pit section, which I guess is technically, the 9th row. Nice start!

Chris Issak was extremely entertaining. I only know two of his songs, but he puts on an outstanding show. Loved hearing him sing Cheap Trick's I'd Love You To Want Me. And my favorite of his for the night was the last song he sang, which I think was called Forever Blue(?). Here are a couple of pics!
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m47/gubay/CONCERT%20PHOTOS/CI1.jpg http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m47/gubay/CONCERT%20PHOTOS/CI3.jpg

Stevie was as awesome as always. She sounded great, seemed like she was really having a great time and well, she, as usual, looked drop-dead gorgeous! Stand Back was a great opener. The set list was the same as The Concord show, but she switched a couple of the songs around. She dedicated I Need To Know to Tom Petty, who she said was there. She also talked about how she'd toured with him and admitted it was the best time she'd ever had. I finally got to hear her sing Enchanted, a song I haved loved since The Wild Heart came out. Loved it! Landslide was a highlight with the photos and altering film clips of her and her family on the large screen behind her. Also enjoyed hearing her sing Led Zep's Rock And Roll. Even though she only plays for about 90 minutes, she keeps up the pace with upbeat songs throughout, thankfully. I'd say for someone pushing 60, she kept things rockin'! I'd go see her again, without hesitation. Here are some photos:

Stevie "shawling-out" with Waddy in front of her:

During Landslide. I had a tough time getting good shots of Stevie and the screen. I turned off the flash and could get the photos on the screen behind Stevie, but you can't see Stevie too well, or I could have left the flash on and you would have been able to see Stevie, but not the screen.

As for merchandise, the posters are beautiful and I had to wait until after the show to buy one or I would have ruined it. They had bags to keep your merchandise in, but no poster tubes or rubberbands. I also bought the black Crystal Visions shirt, the keychain, and the magnet, but that poster is my favorite. It's $10.00 and well worth it. I wanted to get the brown "THE BOOTS ARE BACK" shirt, but it felt so flimsy and "The Boots Are Back" was written so small on the back of the shirt (which I thought was the best part of the shirt), I thought for my $40.00, I'd get the black shirt. As reported here, they do have tour books and they are $15.00.

For those of you going to the show, enjoy both Stevie and Chris. I totally got my money's worth.

Great pics!

I was there too and was surprised when security let me go to the Pit during Edge. I was in section A row C on the aisle and when the two guys behind me got through I decided to try and I politely asked security if I could go into the Pit and they said yes. Who'd have thunk it!

Some people though got a little crazy and a couple of girls tried to wiggle their way in front of people who paid top dollar for those Pit seats and they should be ashamed of themselves. I just stood in the aisle between sections because for me it was good enough just to be that close. After Edge I returned to my seat as it was a real crush. I don't know where you were sitting but it appears to have been in the Pit. And, if it was know this I wasn't one of those idiots trying to elbow their way in front of you and security did let us in-no questions asked. Why I have no idea.

I have front row seats for her concert next Friday at Soboba and I know I'm not going to want someone from the back elbowing me out of the way. Hopefully my good karma will pay off-ask Earl.

Peace

No this is my first time. I live in Rancho Cucamonga which is great as is about the same distance from me as the Greek was.

Have you been? Any pointers. I know I should probably get their early as I saw Don Henley earlier this year in Indio at the Fantasy Resort Casino and traffic was a nightmare. I didn't get to my seat until after the concert started. Not going to risk that again.

What I liked about it is that it's a different shot of Stevie and not the same photos used on the other merchandise. It's on nice paper too.

Good for you for getting down inside the pit! :) I also noticed they were letting people down there, but by the time I made a move, it was too late for me to get in there. Grrr! Oh well!

Thanks for the heads-up.

I expect a stage rush as there appears to be no Pit. I will definitely stake out my spot early.

The strange thing was I just got my front row seat-section C on Friday night. I have a question about seating though.

The diagram shows section C starts at the end of stage right. Is that accurate? I have the inside aisle seat so you could say I'm at the end of section B. It looks good for at least getting to the stage but off-sides too much for the bulk of the evening. I do have another seat in Section B 4th row which would put me right in front of Stevie. I figure when I get there to move back and forth between the two only going to my front seat for Edge.

What's your thoughts having been to a concert there?

Hi Carol,

I've been to Soboba once to see John Fogerty, with front row seats. You should be able to get the stage fairly easily, depending upon what security is like. When I went for John, we headed up to the stage, like everyone else, but after a while, got kicked back to our seats. I believe this was because John Fogerty offered a special package deal on his website where fans could buy a ticket that included a meet and greet before the show, a bag full of goodies and they were allowed to stand at the stage, no matter where their seat was. All the rest of us who didn't have that package deal had to go sit down. Not that it was anything to cry about...I mean, we were in the front row!

I can't remember, but I think there was a barrier between the stage and where the people could go stand at the stage. I'm interested to see how it is set up for Stevie. Good luck!!

Will definitely get there early even before Isaak starts his set. Thanks for the info.

I figured security wouldn't be too intense with respect to cameras and that is why I opted not to take mine last night to the Greek. I will definitely hide my camera. The digitals are some much easier to hide than the old 35 mm. I used to have to get really creative to get it that one in. Now all I usually do is put my digital in my pocket and wear something over it.

I almost got body searched though at Staples for a recent Rod Stewart concert as I kept setting off the scanner despite the fact that I was "supposedly" emptying my pockets-which, of course, I wasn't. They finally let me through as the concert was about to start and people were piling up behind me.

The funny thing was, I was in the Pit and we were not allowed to use cameras and since there were only 40 of us in the Pit and we were surrounding by security four deep and were virtually trapped for the entire show inside the stage, I couldn't even use it once I did get it in. They actually gave us a list of dos and don'ts and if you took pictures, even with a cell, they threatened to boot us out of the concert. I wasn't going to take that chance as security was sitting right beside me all night. It was like I had my own body guard. Luckily no one acted like a pig and we didn't have to worry about getting crushed at the stage.

Live Review: Stevie Nicks in Los Angeles

May 21, 2007 03:57 PM
by Paul Gargano
LiveDaily Contributor
If Stevie Nicks could choose the perfect setting to perform her mystical passions of life and love, it very well may be the Greek Theater. Nestled amidst the sprawling greenery of Griffith Park in the Hollywood Hills, the venue played host to a crowd of nearly 6,000 Saturday night (5/19), the first of two sold-out nights in Los Angeles and only the second stop on the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman's current "Crystal Visions" solo tour.
Despite the 10-piece band that joined her onstage for the duration of the 14-song, 100-minute set, it may have been the towering trees that line the amphitheater that contributed the most color to the evenings proceedings, the softly-lit leaves rustling in the light spring breeze and offering an ambient backdrop to Nicks' retrospective night of classic rock and iconic pop.

"The real 'Crystal Vision' in my life is all of you, and I thank you for staying with me all these years. Now let's rock…" she casually said following the pulse of opener "Stand Back," offering her first of many chatty interludes. "Dreams" appropriately followed, one of the night's more buoyant pop excursions and also the track that features the title line of her newly released hits collection.

While more than half of the night's set could be found on the new "Crystal Visions" best-of set, the night wasn't all obvious hits, with fan favorite "Leather and Lace" absent and lesser-known piano ballad "Beauty and the Beast" serving as a grand and dramatic finale. With her long, blonde hair pulled up for the first time all night and classic black-and-white footage from Jean Cocteau's 1946 French film of the same name, "Le Belle Et La Bete," Nicks' closed the night with a song that explored the gray area within life's black and white extremes--a theme she had frequented throughout the performance.

Introducing "Sorcerer," which she recalled writing nearly 25 years ago, Nicks commented that the song captured both the "scary and fantastic" aspects of living in Los Angeles in the early '70s. Later in the set, she reminisced that "Fall From Grace" was both "the most loving and meanest song I've ever written."

The glue that held the set together was Nicks' vocals, her textured rasp adding imperfect yet inescapably comforting warmth, whether during the soft tenderness of her signature "Rhiannon," the middle-of-the-road country tone of "Enchanted," or the more animated hard-rock timbre of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll."

While she didn't dust off the Tom Petty-penned "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" from her solo debut ["Bella Donna," 1981], Nicks did dedicate a cover of his "I Need To Know" to her friend and recent tour mate, longtime guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who took advantage of some rare time in the spotlight.

The band--Wachtel was joined by guitarist Carlos Rios, bassist Al Ortiz, drummer Jimmy Paxon; piano player Cornell Thigpen and organist Ricky Peterson; Fleetwood Mac percussionist Lenny Castro; and backing vocalists Lori Nicks, Jana Anderson and Sharon Salani--was dutiful with the arrangements, seldom stepping outside Nicks' shadow.

Thigpen accompanied Nicks on the into to "Rhiannon," the vocalists played their part during the acoustic "Landslide," and Paxon and Castro soloed from "Still of the Night" into the intro to "Edge of Seventeen," which featured Wachtel riding his dominant riff throughout the song. As if by plan, though, they all blended rather reverently into the background, doing just enough to create a musical blanket for Nicks to wrap her vocals around.

That provided everything the enthralled crowd could have asked for, and sometimes more, as their "Gold Dust Woman" wove her musical incantations into the night. It was a night atypical of Hollywood's storied pomp and circumstance, and more fitting of Nicks' legacy as rock's reigning Queen. She delivered like royalty.

Setlist:
"Stand Back"
"Dreams"
"If Anyone Falls in Love"
"Rhiannon"
"Enchanted"
"Sorcerer"
"Gold Dust Woman"
"I Need To Know"
"Landslide"

How do you guys manage to get cameras into the shows? Whenever I see Stevie at Jones Beach (which, admittedly has not been since the FM SYW tour) security roots through your bag at the door and I'm pretty sure I've seen people get 'felt up' by security.

I'd just die if they confiscated my digital camera, it cost me $400!

She used the word "meanest" at one of her TISL shows when introducing Planets. People always call the one version of SAY the "Angry version" and the lyrics are certainly mean. Angry lyrics, mean lyrics.......very similar. And who really cares anyway.

BTW...didn't Stevie say she "softened the lyrics to POTU because they were just too mean and written when she was at her most dramatic and she she just "couldn't do that to LB".

She might have. I just remember her saying she was angry when she wrote it and the lyrics are angry. She recently reiterated this lang. in the J. Benson interview.

But, seeing as how POTU is about LB and FFG seemingly is inspired by LB - the tone is not surprising

I've always gotten mine in the same way - I strap it with an ace wrap to the side of my ankle, then my pant leg goes over it. Metal detectors have not found it either. Once you get it inside, they USUALLY don't care if you take pics. And if they do, like in Vegas for example, they usually just warn you and tell you to stop.

You could try inbetween your butt cheeks, but it's probably not as comfortable.

The Greek Theatre didn't say you couldn't take cameras inside, but I had mine hidden anyway and they didnt wand us either. Once inside, there was a general announcement made that was to be no flash photography, but did that stop anyone from using flash? No.

It really depends on the venue. If you get the camera into the venue, I would try to hide it when going in. Then, when the show gets started, see if others are using flash. If so, give it a try but if you can be discreet for the first few shots until you know what kind of security you're dealing with, that's the best thing. You can try to take shots without flash. For me, somethimes they come out okay and sometimes not, depending upon the lighting.
