How Indianapolis did not make this list, I'll never know. But, I have driven in Miami, LA, and Chicago, and I'm not at all surprised.

Minneapolis/St. Paul was #1 on the nicest drivers list in 2006, I wonder what happened? Oh wait, it might have something to do with every major highway in the seven county metro area being closed, having reduced lanes, detoured, or in a severely f*cked condition.

^ Me too. We have our share of road rage, but generally drivers are pretty tame compared to big cities. That's one benefit of living near a city that was originally built for 1/2 million, but only has 300,000 living here.

I read that it dropped to #12. I think Portland is #1 for courteous drivers. Those little stoners.

Here's a CNN article on this:

Miami - I believe it.

When I'm driving down here and someone ticks me off, I never honk my horn or flip them off for fear of being shot. No kidding. And there are hit and runs here almost every day. Driving is very scary here. :distress:

Dallas has to be the worse drivers I have ever encountered...

Whereas OKC has the most polite, but lead-footed drivers you'll ever see.

What's the rush? Besides not wanting to be out and about in Ohio for extended periods of time (which is completely understandable)?

I think I just had an epiphany. I've always wondered why I drive so fast. Guess now I understand :p

And do they eventually take your license away for a certain number of tickets? Do they do that point system thing? like here if you get 12 points within 12 months they'll suspend your license. I have I think 3 or 4 points against mine...boo.

I'm also surprised I don't get pulled over more, because I sure can be a speed demon.

You bring up a good point. I believe it depends on which state (geographical) you live in.

California is very rigid:
Points on The Driver Record

DMV keeps a public record of all your traffic convictions and accidents. Each occurrence stays on your record for 36 months or longer, depending on the type of conviction.

You may be considered a negligent operator when your driving record shows any one of the following “point count” totals regardless of your license class:

4 points in 12 months
6 points in 24 months
8 points in 36 months

Some examples of one point violations:

A traffic conviction.
An at-fault accident.

Examples of two point violations:

Reckless driving or hit-and-run driving
Driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs
Hit-and-run driving
Driving while suspended or revoked

If you get too many “points,” you will lose your driver license. A violation received in a commercial vehicle carries one and one-half times the point count normally assessed.

yeah, we have the points system too. apparently i should have 6 points on my license, but only 2 of them are within the last 2 years - from this current ticket. the one i got last month doesn't count as a moving violation b/c it was a traffic cam. here you can only get 12 within a 24 month period and then your license is suspended.

California is very rigid:

that sounds similar to ohio ... looks like everything is worth fewer "points" but it's in proportion with ours.

People here drive like total ****. That's all there is to it. Not very many seem angry, but almost all seem like ****ing morons. Wrong way on a one way all the time, forget stopping at a stop sign, speed through red lights, etc etc etc.

The worst thing here is cutting off. I get cut off on almost every street I travel every day. Especially when there's no one behind me.. these assholes can't just wait 5 seconds and pull out behind me. I used to rage, my god.. biblical rage. Like, out of the car up in somebody's face rage.. people knocking on my window rage. One dude actually started coming into my car through the window. He got bitch slapped then door checked before I rolled out. Those days are over, though. I just can't let these ****wits get to me anymore. I accept it that everybody around me drives like crap 99.6 percent of the time.

Sounds like where I live. It doesn't help that people also seem to ALWAYS go at least 10 miles UNDER the speed limit...the speed limit that is already low (it's 25-35 in pretty much every part of town). I usually get into a rage at least once a day in the car due to some asshole not knowing how to drive. I hate it.

Was it George Carlin who said something like...anyone driving faster than you is a clown and anyone driving slower is an asshole...so it's a wonder we get anywhere with all those clowns and assholes on the road....

I probably butchered it - but I remember him having a bit like that that cracked me up.

I don't know about mean, but how about stupid?

I was driving to work this morning, in the fast lane, doing my usual 70 MPH, when I notice all other cars, doing 70 MPH were going around some asshat doing 60... in the fast lane. So, when I go around said asshat, he's driving 10 MPH under, in the fast lane, picking his nose. HE WAS PICKING HIS NOSE!!! I? was furious....

This is why no one can drive as good as I can....

Yep, they're very mean here in Boston. Yesterday I was nearly hit by a woman in a rotary (round about), she was in the inside lane, I on the outside, and thought she should just be able to go straight off onto her exit. There's a lot of traffic going that way so drivers try to bully people from getting into the rotary. Anyway, I had the right of way and she yelled at ME! I yelled back. Whatever man.

Sometimes I do flip people off but I am really trying to stop that. Sometimes though it's just necessary. I think the constant change in traffic patterns and The Big Dig certainly contribute to the rage.

We got #1 for deliberate tailgaiting. This is due to the slow drivers I am sure. You poor out of towners/old people/new drivers are screwed here. Seriously. If you vist Boston do NOT rent a car. If you drive here, consider staying outside of the city and taking the train or cabbing it in. It's bad! The roads make no sense, there are lots of one ways, there is no grid pattern or anything, you can lose your sense of where you are in a heartbeat. Then, no one cares that you're lost.

We're bad about tailgating, too.

And I believe you on Boston. When I was there, I walked my happy ass around and took the subway from area to area. Road construction did look heavy (we have had CONSTANT interstate construction for 10+ years as well). The most ****ed up thing I remember seeing about Boston traffic was this group of rollerbladers who just out of nowhere bolted off the sidewalk into the middle of an intersection during a redlight change. They just kept going around, around, around making sure none of the cars could pull out. Almost got their asses run over til some cops came and ran them off. It was pretty funny to me.. but if you pulled that crap down here, some redneck would pull his shotgun out of the window of his truck and blow you straight to hell probably.
