I heard that FM performed this song live as the encore on The Dance Tour. Does anyone happen to have video of the performance or audio? I would really like to hear (& if possible see) it.

Thnx,
T.D.

My favourite nights are when Stevie starts too early. :xoxo:

ยก MUCHAS MUCHAS GRACIAS !

(Did Lindsey sing on the "Live" one back in ? 1980 ? or was it all females?) Anybody know who was singing on the 1980 version...sounds more than Stevie and Christine....

that's true. but for a band that prides itself on 3-part harmony, that's pretty awful. but, who knows what was going on to make it that way. I'm not one to judge.

I like this song, but you're right, they seem a bit off. It's a cute video and really good quality at that. My favorite part is when Lindsey is like dragging Stevie off the stage. Haha!! It's cute.

Lindsey is horribly flat...

Would I get mud thrown at me, if I said...that 1997 version was kind of off key? It sounds like Christine was the only one hitting the right notes at the right time. (I always wondered why it wasn't included on the professionally released CD or Video of the Dance...now, I guess I know.)

Did Lindsey sing on the 1980 version? It sounds like it is all females, but more than two voices (e.g. Stevie & Christine.) Or did Stevie have her backup singers at that time?

there are lots of factors that go into making a song of this nature sound good, harmonically (did I just make up another word? damn I'm good). in my gut, I feel like they kinda lost the special magic they had to create those harmonies and it's just gone, but what do I know. maybe they just couldn't hear each other (that makes a HUGE difference). they may have all sounded perfect alone, but if they can't hear where the other person is, it's all screwed.

I am almost positive it was all 3 of them singing.

Yes, it sounds really bad!!
I went to the NYC show on thanksgiving night, I don't remember they sounded that bad during this song.

BTW, what does Mick say at the end?? That last word? I can't understand

It's a bit nostalgic to see that last performance of the fab five, was it the absolutely last time the 5 played together? No.. I think the R&R Hall of fame induction was the last time, wasn't it?

didn't they play some private party or something where Christine joined them onstage for a couple songs or something?

or am I drunk and imagining it?

He says "Buckle up."

Such an odd encore choice. They sounded terrible...
I never loved that song. Never loved it on the FM Live either.

I think Jazmen Flowers is right -- they probably couldn't hear each other....but even the guitar (bass?) sounds out of tune.

What is said at the beginning about ? the weather? by Lindsey? Was somebody sick or something?

Depended on the night. I saw 'em consecutive nights that tour...first night, "Oh God, help me". Next night, they were spot-on on the harmonies.

In their infinite wisdom, they booked outdoor gigs in October.

Eh, I really enjoyed it live. It sort of cracks me up how people often judge various performances only by watching the bootlegs. There is often a different vibe and perception when you actually see it live. I have been to shows and then gotten boots of them and there is so much you miss by only watching the show on dvd. Certain songs sound one way in person and then when you watch it back, you might be like WTF?? That happened to me specifically when I watched the Today Show appearance back at the beginning of SYW. Live GYOW did not sound that horrible. haha

I saw a few Dance shows........ .......and some nights Farmer's Daughter was better than others. I thought it got better as the tour went on, though. A couple of times it seemed like Stevie was the one who was off but I still quite enjoyed it. The five of them up there, all in a row, singing that song....was really quite incredible. I particularly enjoyed Lindsey on this song .

I've heard lots of boots of it and I never cringed once. I think it's kind of a sweet way to send the audience on their way.

yeah. wow - i listened to it and didn't think it was all that bad. :o it IS actually a favourite song of mine, and i'd kill to see it live (i didn't see the dance tour. kill me now. i know. trust me, i've sharpened the razor blades more than once). anyhow. i agree with kelly that often seeing a bootleg just doesn't compare to the live experience. sure, i think their harmonies were a bit off on this performance, but it wasn't like fingernails on a chalkboard. i think it's a really sweet way to have finished this tour, too.

I'd forgotten how much I wanted to see that when I heard about it vaguely at some point sometime. Thank you. I think after the first verse, they sounded good for the most part. That first verse was definitely rough, though. Otherwise, fairly smooth. I think that's one of those "hard" songs. :p

After what everyone was saying, I expected...I dunno, Hindenberg-like squalls of discordance throughout. Like, oh, the harmanity. But no, they sounded good, I liked it, and would loved to have heard it live.

often seeing a bootleg just doesn't compare to the live experience.Absolutely. So let me rephrase: I can't for the life of me think of one bootleg where it sounds right. I'm sure it sounded great in concert and I would love to have seen it.

I love this song and it was a perfect closer to the show as I was bored with Songbird ending the show.

When I saw them at Shoreline Amp, I thought it was perfect.
This video is horrid. Was it that bad or was the audio just simply screwed up?
Things can sound weird depending on the microphone and position of your seat in an amphitheater or stadium.

this is so true... i saw Christine's tour live in Cleveland and she rocked the house... her FM songs were better than FM especially Hold Me... but when i heard the bootleg it was like.... ewwwwwwwwwww to my ears....

the bottom line is that sounds fall flat when they travel distance... especially when they bounce off walls and ricochet... it's just the science of sound... not the singer's fault at all.... having said that... in this instance... sounds like LB is flat... but honestly it's really hard to tell with this kind of recording...;)
