This was posted on her website:
Hey Everybody,
I am so excited to share with you guys that I've adopted a little boy... he was born 2 weeks ago.
His name is Wyatt (after my dad) Steven (after my little brother and Scooter) and we are enjoying some very private family time.
Just wanted you to be the first to know.
Lots of love,
Sheryl.

Congrats to Sheryl! :)

I dig Sheryl.
I love her music.
I think she's hot.
Good for her for fulfilling her need to raise a child.
She has the means to give this little boy everything money can buy.
Um, except a father.
On that count, I have to say, poor little boy.

would you feel differently if she had adopted a girl?
hopefully there will be someone in his life who will act as a paternal figure, but he'll probably have a better life with sheryl than he will in foster care.

my point is just that there are too many babies and not enough people willing to care for them. so if someone is willing and able to take care of a child, that is a valuable thing, even if it's not the ideal setup.

Seriously though, I understand tradition and all, but in this day and age it's getting to be almost common that children get raised by one parent. They don't automatically turn into little Ted Bundys or Hannibal Lecters because of that.

It always slays me when people who don't even have children think they know how to write the book on how to raise them.

Uncles and Grandparents aren't fathers.
It's always easy to compare anything to a horror story to make it look good, re: the dysfunctional parent schtick. I mean, I'd sure rather have a broken arm than 2 broken arms, and a tumor. So, I can survive a broken arm.
Broken arm, not so bad:lol:
I don't have children, no. But I was a little boy at one time. And I wouldn't have traded my Dad for 6 rich and famous mothers and all the extended family in the world. Being a parent...no experience. Having a dad, I did that for 32 years. Please, find me a man who will say his father was unimportant, and taught him things anyone could have. And no, guys with ****ty male parents who were drunks or abusers don't count.
It is just supremely ironic to me that she can give a kid every material thing on earth, but the one thing I think was most valuable to me as a kid, she didn't bother to do. The world is a funny place.

People always have differing opinions. The interesting thing is the reason why they have them. Not a lot of exchange here lately on that front. It's more about sarcasm, hyperbole, and an instant dismissal of any idea that offers a challenge to the staus quo and beliefs held by the majority. Thus the exodus of individuals capable of maintaining a reasoned, well mannered discussion. And people with a sense of umor. Everything is stuck on a snarky bitch fest level, and rarely rises above that. Entertinning, I suppose, in small doses. But not very interesting.
But wait, don't Jews at least control the media? Them and the homos?

People always have differing opinions.
It's not just that they have differing opinions, it's that they have "opinions" that are so dangerous and repugnant that there is literally no way to respond rationally. They aren't rational opinions. I'm not saying your opinion is on that level, but I just find so much of what is expressed here to be completely depraved. And on top of it, there seems to be a widespread belief that drinking and taking drugs is the way to cope with problems/stress...that really has nothing to do with this, but I just had to throw that in there. :D How do you have a well-mannered discussion with someone who is spouting ideas that are, frankly, bat-**** crazy?

Again, I kinda missed that too. I am sure plenty of people drink, and a few people here smoke pot sometimes. But I wasn't aware of many people who were outta control drug addicts. Or completely bat **** crazy - though some seem kind of comically out of touch with reality.

You don't have to be a crack whore with track marks on every visible part of your body to have a problem. I'm not even saying anyone here does. I'm just questioning that as people's first response to stress...to get drunk or high. Everyone does it like it's no big deal...people I work with act like getting trashed is the same as going to the movies. Or the grocery store. I think it's insane.

Just as many people stuff themselves with pizza and ice cream. Avoidance is avoidance. I'm not sure if high alcohol intake is less healthy than obesity. Or really even a different behavior when you get down to it.
Oh, I may have it...I guess there was a thread recently entitled, Who Wants To Have a Glass Of Wine? Or something like that. Is that what you're referring to? Maybe I'll check it out and see if that is the nexus of the depravity of which you speak.

My theory is he was taking enhancements to win the races he's won... I saw an interesting documentary on the news about the whole situation, the accusations against him and the whole doping issues surrounding the cycling world... He's denied ever taking drugs, but there seems to be a lot of evidence to the contrary... So I think she went into survival mode and got out!

I think the problem was that she liked him a little TOO much. Poon hound indeed.
Sheryl did a good thing by adopting. To me it doesn't seem to fit in with the fad of celebrity adoptions and I think this kid will get a nice rounded upbringing. Except with dimly lit rooms and a dirty ass. Meh, we all have our crosses to bear don't we?

No. A message from someone who thinks fathers aren't irrelevant.
yeah. i have to say, i'm in your corner. i had a not very present father, and when he was present, he was usually yelling at my mother or at my sisters and me. i didn't know fathers were kind and supportive sources of love until i started hanging out at my friends' houses.
did i suffer for it? in a word, yes.
would i ever have a child on my own? never.
i look at my friends and how they trust and how they treat relationships and i know they all know how to do that because they had solid family units. i didn't trust men not to be mean, not to hurt, not to threaten to leave until... um... well, i'm still working on it. the guys i've dated/am dating have a hard time with me convincing me that they are not out to get me. and i think, until very recently, i always felt less at ease with guys because my father had always let me down.
i'm not saying i believe every single child who grows up without a father suffers from it. i would not make that generalization. but based on my own experience, i would not choose to bring up a child without a loving dad.
but that's just me.

I believe that the *ideal* situation is for two loving parents to raise a child. That being said, I believe that single parents can (and very often do) raise wonderful children. I think if a person is financially stable (not necessarily wealthy), loving, and has a good support system, they can do an awesome job raising a child. I've seen so many bad parents; I'd much rather see one good parent than two crappy ones.

I can't tell if you are actually being serious, or joking here. I'll go with serious since it was my first instinct. I say this with as much respect as I possibly can-out of all the people on the ledge, you are probably one of the most negative, if not THE most. maybe it would do you some good to go have a few beers and cut loose.
but on topic. I think it is a very noble thing what sheryl did. Granted, she benefits as well, but still. It takes a big person to be able to adopt and love that child like it's your own. as far as a father figure-eh. I never had one and I turned out o.k. but turn it around a little bit and take my mother away-it's a pretty grim picture.

That was interesting, honest, and thought provoking.
There are tons of crappy fathers out there. And mothers.
I think it is only when we are older that we can start to understand
the impact our parents had on us. It is fascinating how such seemingly
small things can alter our lives so immensely. Good and bad.
It is no small miracle that decent people come out of harsh situations,
and a real testament to human nature, ultimately.
If something happened and I ended up with a kid, I have no doubt that I
would just rise to the job and give it my all. But if it were something planned I just couldn't imagine doing it without a mother. No more than I can imagine not having had a mother. She taught me things my Dad never could have.
Things he probably never even thought about.
I wouldn't necessarily say that everyone suffers if they don't have a Dad. Or a Mom. But they do miss out on something.

I'm sure there is something missed being raised without one of two parents. I was raised with both parents who are still married. But here I am raising one on my own. (not my decision) She misses her father, and she's sometimes weird around men. She loves my father and my uncle very much so, but they are not around for her all the time. And my father is not the type to do much with her either. He didn't do a whole lot with me when I was a kid. I turned out okay, and I have no doubt that Sara will turn out fine too. My fear is that she's gonna grow up and not know how to act around men, or be afraid of them.

Obviously, but the boxed concept of traditional family hasn't exploded enough to show that what is important is the quality of love, respect, protection, attention, delivered to a child?
It needs more than a man to make a father, and more than a woman to make a mother, IMO.

Clearly. And one of the reasons there are so many mere males and females
and a shortage of men and women is inadequate parenting. From both genders.
Though the shortage of men is far more severe.

Just a thought
Sara had a male teacher last year who she loved to death. He was a wonderful teacher, and he still takes time out to go and talk to Sara and asks her to lunch every so often. It was his first year teaching, adn I think he found his calling in life. He is such a gentle and soft spoken man. I have a lot of respect for him.
I found out that he was a gay man when I ran into him and his partner at TGIFridays last winter, and he looked rather worried as his partner quickly walked away. That made me sad, because he was obviously worried that I would figure out his orientation and tell, but I didn't breathe a word.

Lord Child - as if you would give a ****te about his gayness considering ya hang out with MOI
Seriously, that is way sad that he has to hide like that. Just goes to show you that the world outside of some areas of big cities is harsh
But, I am glad that she had that male figure in her life!!!!!!!
The reason I asked was because I suppose it is hard as a single mother to find a man that can be trusted - and I do not mean trusted not to molest the child or anything like that - I mean that has the same moral system that the single parent does and/or they will not be an a$$hole in the end.
