I hear the London shows are already sold out.

Barbra Streisand isn't crazy about flying.

"My sign is Taurus," she says. "It's an earth sign. We like to keep our feet on the ground."

Nonetheless, the diva will soon hop on a plane bound for Europe, where this summer she'll launch her first string of performances on the continent. The tour won't be as extensive as her U.S. trek last year: "That was 20 dates; this will be about half of that." The first five dates were announced Monday, including a stop in London, where Streisand last performed in 1994.

"I like challenges, and it's time to do things that I haven't done before," Streisand says of her decision to take her act abroad. Another factor was the swell time she had on her U.S. trek last year, documented on the two-CD set Live In Concert 2006, due May 8. The tracks include songs not previously featured on any Streisand album, plus duets with Il Divo, who accompanied her on tour.

"This time, I really enjoyed touring the United States, because I didn't have stage fright," Streisand says. "Would I rather have been in bed eating a pint of coffee ice cream? Yeah. But I can't raise money for my foundation that way." (As with Streisand's U.S. tour, for which tickets ranged from $100 to $750, European proceeds support the Streisand Foundation.)

While touring, it's likely Streisand will stay mindful of the presidential campaign heating up back home. The outspoken Democrat and longtime supporter of the Clintons says she's "very impressed" with Barack Obama: "He's wonderful." But "I'm not choosing anybody right now." She has contributed to both candidates, as well as John Edwards and Christopher Dodd. "I like Joe Biden and Bill Richardson, too. And Dennis Kucinich," Streisand says.

"We have a lot of good candidates, and any one of them would be better than anyone in the administration right now. It's a matter of who I think has a chance to win."

Fans wondering whether Streisand will engage in similar commentary in her European shows — her American concerts had their share of political humor — should secure their tickets, because the singer has no plans to record this mini-tour.

"It's like when I did Funny Girl," Streisand quips, harking back to her Broadway roots. "Whoever gets to see it gets to see it."

she was in the papers recently and they were saying she's considering charging £500 a ticket!!!!! Crazy!
I know she's not the same league, but geez, compare that to Princes suggested prices of £31!

Barbra runs circles around Diana. she'd mop her floors with Diana's wig.

Like they said on the news yesterday: "For all the suckers that spent 8000 euro flying to NYC to see Barbra Streisand: she's coming to Europe! Now for the bargain price of 2000 euro."

I'd love to see her, but like Pip said, not for what she's charging. I wanted to go see her in Paris, but tickets are effin' 945 euro. I wouldn't even pay that to see Stevie!

Well look at it this way...£500 makes Fm look cheap at £87.00 (back in 2003) and I thought they were expensive.
It makes Prince look like an

The top price tickets were actually £600 and you could buy special packages that were £800-900.
I would have loved to have brought my mum to see Babs but I could buy her a nice little holiday for the price of two tickets. I hope Streisand is giving some of that money to charity though. It just boggles my mind to think how much she's making from that short tour.

I'll have to research to be sure, but I'm almost certain a good portion of it goes to The Streisand Foundation, which does an enormous amount of giving and never gets credit or hogs publicity.

Today some of our newspapers attacked her for the tickets'prices of her concert here, 850 euros?!?!?

It's the highest price ever requested in Italy, Rolling Stones are far second at 150 euros. I would have liked to listen to her live, but I'm not a big fan and at that price I'm sure she can do without me.

it's all about supply and demand. must not be too expensive for some...she's already sold out shows.

it's too expensive for me and I think it may be borderline gouging fans, but hell...if people will pay it, why not...

I don't know, I find a bit unethic to ask for a ticket a price that's higher than the salary of many young workers in Countries like mine.
Even if probably I'd agree to pay that price for two singers. One has big brown eyes, a great talent, a brilliant sense of humour and usually stays out of my continent for her solo tours and the other is Mina, our musical legend who keeps making great albums but stopped performing live and doing any kind of public appearance 30 years ago.

I can see where you're coming from.

as an update though, I can confirm that a majority of Barbra's profits are going to The Streisand Foundation. if anyone cares to hear what all that foundation does and supports, I'll be glad to share.
