OK so Stand Back is one of my favourite songs that Stevie does live. So much energy and such a powerful song. So here are a few live versions I have picked up. If anyone has any other killer versions they'd like to post, feel free.

I love any 1983 Stand Back, especially that Oakland performance. Bobby Hall is cool and love the start of the song.

REALLY? I thought the Live At The Whiskey Version and House Of Blues version are both better.

Hi everyone! I'm going to give this a try, but please bear with me as this is the first time I have tried to upload anything and share the link. With any luck, I did it right, so cross your fingers! I can not recall who I got this file from, but it was represented to me as the Stand Back from Red Rocks; if I'm mistaken, my apologies. Either way, enjoy!

I am SOOOOOO making a "Stand Back" EP out of these. Does anyone have a good OSOTM tour version of Stand Back?

Stand Back - Through The Years:

1. WH Album Version
2. Live in Oakland
3. Live at Red Rocks
4. Live on OSOTM Tour
5. Timespace Remaster
6. Live At The Whiskey
7. House Of Blues
8. A Day In The Garden

Does anyone have any TISL or Live In Vegas or Melbourne versions they could post for me?

I always loved the Oakland version. Not only does it have the cheesy 80's synthesizer but she sings it like it's sung on the album. After 83' she changed the melody when she did it live and I much prefer the album version and the way she did it on TWH tour.

Very nice EP.
I think you also need the US Festival version as it is the first live version of it. I'm pretty sure that's the first time she played it live but I could be wrong.

You know this is great because, I was thinking the same thing before I even saw your post - to make a CD maxi single of Stand Back edits, mixes an live performances. This is the list I have as of now:

Stand Back (radio edit)
Stand Back (live) (Dreamer) 83
Stand Back (live) (Red Rocks) 86
Stand Back (live) (The Chain Boxed Set) 87
Stand Back (DiscoTech) (don't recall the exact year this came out but I'm almost certain it was early 90's)
Stand Back (House Of Blues) 94
Stand Back (live) (The Dance radio broadcast) 97
Stand Back (live in Boston) 03
Stand Back (live) (iTunes) 07
Stand Back (Hani Remix) - new
Stand Back vs. Little Red Corvette - new

I figured the single edit (same as the video) is more appropriate for this instead of the album version. As you can see I don't have the 89 and 91 performances on here, not that I wouldn't or won't include them but ... the quality of those didn't seem as good as the other ones. I didn't download the 98 one yet from a Day In the Garden ... is that a good one? What about the one from 01 KFOG ... I remember that one sounding really good ... can someone post that?

Here you go - these aren't from the soundboard, but overall, not too bad for audience recordings....

I would kill to listen to the Oakland version again, as I was in the audience. But everytime I try to download something from sendspace, I am unable to do it. Am I correct that I need to pay for a membership or am I doing something wrong. Anyone can help out an old man?

nope, you don't need a membership. they just do a good job of hiding the link. once you click on it, it will be in small, blue type in the middle of the page.

^^yeah, once we figure you out.

Wow, the Oakland version takes me waaaaaay back. I love it. It's before she went all manic on the song. Which I also love, but this is more pure. I can't believe she will open with this song on Thursday.....how can you open with the climax?

LOL! That reminds me of that live version of I Can't Wait where she goes "Sometimes she wakes up and sometimes well she's only dreaming... then when she really wakes up somehow well she still believes him". Nice recovery. I used to sing with a band and I'll tell ya, it's not hard to recover after a mess up like that.

Listen again. Second verse, just before the chorus.

Normally, she sings, "one man said he would not fall/but he asked me for too much/but he asked me for too much/he said take me," then she hits the chorus. This time, she sings, "one man said he called my name/he said... maybe, maybe. yeah."

The other classic flub of "Stand Back" I know of is when she had that infamous Santa Barbara show when she was really feeling her bronchitis. Instead of singing, "no man said he called my name/you know no man came," she sang, "one man said he would not fall, but he asked me for too much, he said take me," THEN she finished the rest of the verse.

I've listened to WAAAAAY too many live versions of "Stand Back." Then again, I find the studio version/radio edit/video version pretty much unlistenable these days.
