View Full Version : Book of Miracles / Juliet
I don't know if this has been discussed on this board before, but Stevie Nicks' "Juliet" from The Other Side of the Mirror came up on random play on my Zune yesterday and I remembered that I never found out the story behind the music in the song -- specifically that it's the exact same music as the Seven Wonders b-side "Book of Miracles". Is there a story behind the re-use of the music. For example, was Juliet supposed to be on Tango but they just did an instrumental and renamed it BoM, or did Stevie come up with lyrics for BoM later and rename it Juliet? Just curious...

I don't know, but I always found it curious that as an instrumental it was credited to Stevie and Lindsey, but only Stevie after lyrics were added...

Juliet, with lyrics, was either written before or during the Tango sessions. I know that there is an outtake of Stevie singing Juliet for the Tango album. I lost the mp3 though whenever I had to reformat my harddrive. Book of Miracles, I'm guessing, was just them working on the music, or it was a rare case in which Stevie started writing the music first and added lyrics later. But yes, Juliet was going to be on Tango in the Night.

Hmmm... I knew they were similar but I didn't know they were the same. I'll definately have to check it out.

Hmm...I always assumed that when they worked on Juliet for Tango In The Night....at some point they scrapped the song and quit working on it. Since the backing track was fully developed, they released it as an instrumental b-side, re-naming it "Book Of Miracles," borrowed from a phrase in the original lyric.
Two years later, Stevie re-recorded the song for her solo album.

I'm assuming some of these mentioned songs are demos? I'm not asking for the songs released on Tango, but the work in progress demos. Can someone post these for us newbies?
thanx

I don't think there is a demo of this.
I know someone put Stevie's vocals from a TOSOTM demo of Juliet over the Book Of Miracles track and that has been circulating for quite a while (and gives a feel of how the Mac version might have sounded) but as far as I know there's no demo from the Tango sessions. The demo that was used for that "Juliet/Book Of Miracles" hybrid version (which I believe Joe/DownOnRodeo made, but I could be wrong) is typically listed as being a 'Tango' outtake, but it's most likely a 'Rock A Little' era recording.
Either way, her vocals are definitely not 'OSOTM' era.

thanx so much for posting those tracks, trackaghost! It seems like a good time to voice my appreciation to all the ledgies, including you trackaghost, who are most generous to us newbies.

Edit: I've found who did it and it was a Ledgie named Brian! Here's the thread from 2002:

And here's the track:

See my edited post above, it was a Juliet demo (probably the RAL like you said) and bjk3047/Brian was the mastermind behind it.
Here's a OSOTM outtake of Juliet and the vocals are definitely different:

I'm confused. This is the first I ever heard the Juliet/Book Of Miracles combo.
The backing track is from the released b-side Book Of Miracles. The vocals were taken from a Juliet outtake from the Tango sessions. I always assumed that Juliet was originally attempted by Fleetwood Mac, but it didn't gel, so she re-recorded it for her next solo album.

oh no, no no indeed. Def not OSOTM. This is my favorite Stevie demo that exists. So funky, and how many 'wells' can you squeeze into one song? I dunno, I lost count. This demo probably makes alot of people scratch their heads in confusion, but I love it.

here's a bouncy blue blob, to show how happy I am this little gem has got it's own thread..
