Oh my God, it was lame! The radio said nothing of it at six and we got to the theatre at 7:08 or something, and the doors opened at 7 and the show as to start at 8. Anyway, it said Lindsey Buckingham CANCELLED! They would not open the doors and there was absolutely NO explanation. The only thing said was there will be refunds.
Obviously, I'm angry/sad because of this. This is the first LB show I was going to see, and I was really excited :(.

I just spoke with David. Here is what he has told me.
When David arrived at the venue earlier they (Lindsey & crew) were having some sort of sound issues with the venue. David went back to the hotel. When he returned for the show it was cancelled. What he has reported is that there was a huge argument between Lindsey & venue regarding the sound system. The venue demanded that Lindsey utilize their sound equipment not his own. There was some back and forth arguing with Lindsey not going forward without his system. There was also an issue with the venue only allowing a certain decibel (sp?) to be used. I am guessing that is why they wanted their equipment used? Anyway, Lindsey said they (venue) would have to cancel the show. Then there was the argument that they (venue) wouldn't be cancelling the show he would have to (paraphrasing: "it's on you!")...there was also the issue of fines if he decided to cancel due to the equipment issue. Apparently Lindsey said "f*ck this" and cancelled.
craziness... David did say when he was there earlier that there was a weird twilight zone vibe about that place.
and yes brian...peeps upset...mad and crying.

This is terrible! I feel so bad for everyone going to the show. I think how close we were to being canceled in Tulsa because of a buzz in the guitar rig. We were so lucky that it got worked out. But a fight with the venue? Man, you'd think they'd have more respect.

hmmmm...I am pretty sure David said they couldn't offload...but then he left for the hotel so maybe some unpacking did take place. I really don't know as I wasn't there. :sorry: If I have incorrectly reported what David said. Maybe he can fill more in when he returns from tour. Since you are a local maybe you will have some additional details to report as well.

That really sucks. I feel bad for anyone who had planned on going. I really feel bad for people who travel to see LB shows like David. Thankfully I decided to pass on this show. It does make me a bit nervous about attending future LB shows, however. Now shouldn't this sound system issue been something that LB, the band and the crew already have known about?

Hey "Doc" can you drive the 10 hours to see him in Boulder?? I saw him in Denver last November, and he is worth it!
As a word of warning to those coming to Boulder, Colorado...we do have the possibility of a snow storm for Monday...the weather people are all over the story...a storm tomorrow night (Thursday) and one predicted for Monday. If DavidMN is coming to Boulder, please warn him. He has already been in one snow storm this tour, and missed a show....right?

LINCOLN, NE 04.11.2007
A note about the show cancellation
Lindsey Buckingham’s show tonight at the Rococo Theater in Lincoln, NE has been cancelled do to technical difficulties related to sound. The venue has its own in-house sound system but today, when Lindsey’s sound engineers assessed the quality of this system, they determined it to not be adequate for Lindsey’s show to be properly presented. When it was suggested to the venue by Lindsey’s audio team to allow them to bring in additional sound-reinforcement gear from Lindsey’s truck, the venue turned them down. The venue clearly stated to Lindsey’s tour manager that Lindsey must use the existing sound gear as is. Even when Lindsey’s tour manager explained to the venue that the sound system in the building was not what was represented to Lindsey’s audio technicians when doing their "advance" on the show; they still refused to allow the additional gear to enter the building. Lindsey was at the venue when all of this went down and ended up returning to his hotel.
This is the first time this has happened and Lindsey has been on tour promoting his new album "Under The Skin" since October 2006 and this is the first and only date that had to be canceled. Lindsey is very upset that his fans in Lincoln, NE will not get to see his show. Lindsey prides himself on delivering the very best performance and production for every show but in this case he wasn’t able to do so. Lindsey hopes his fans in Lincoln will understand and he looks forward to returning to Lincoln but under much better conditions.

Well. I'm certainly impressed with the fast response from Lindsey's team through his site! Good job!
I can totally see why Lindsey would stand his ground and cancel if he thought their sound system wouldn't present him in the proper light... He would not have been happy up there, and the show would have suffered.... Now what's worse, putting on a crap show or cancelling?
Sorry for the folks in NE :(

I'm going to call the Rococo tomorrow morning to find out what they're doing about refunds/rescheduling. I'm actually moving out of Lincoln in 27 days, so maybe he'll reschedule within the month?
As much as I will likely continue to think that Lindsey is the greatest musician ever, this was incredibly disappointing on his part, because they were setting up all day, and didn't cancel until an hour before. I feel bad for those who traveled far.
Well, as a gentleman in Yia Yia's carrying a Buckingham Nicks album said to me about an hour ago, $40 was too good to be true.
 at Lindsey for now, will probably forgive him when I listen to Under the Skin a few more times.

That is really a shame for anyone that traveled but posting a quick response on his website is a classy, responsible thing to do. Obviously, he felt it was unavoidable. Personally, I have had a half dozen or more shows cancelled for either FM or Stevie gigs. Many were last minute. (TISL tour!) I am sure he canceled at the last possible second because he hoped to work things out with the venue. Apparently he tried to work out the problems all day long. I think I would rather have my show canceled than have a crappy sounding show where Lindsey was miserable. I feel especially bad for any fans who hoped to see him for the first time tonight. Hopefully he will either reschedule or you can travel a bit to see LB in the future. It is well worth it.

yup, snow storm on Friday and another possible one Monday and Tues. The news makes such a big deal here in Denver over snow so who knows - could happen and may not. I pray it's not as big as the blizzard in Dec - LOL! I personally think that canceling a show because you're too spoiled to have anything less than the absolute best sound equipment known to man is beyond lame. The show doesn't need to suffer because of merely "good" sound. Relying on speakers to make the show enjoyable isn't exactly what Lindsey's about. I don't think too many people would walk away from a Lindsey Buckingham solo show thinking "sure he played unbelievably, had manic intensity I've never seen from a teenager, and inspired me to heights I'd never thought possible, but his voice wasn't crystal clear! I've lost all respect for the man."

I am more curious as to what the venue's problem is. Why shouldn't a professional be allowed to bring in "additional sound-reinforcement gear" especially since "the sound system in the building was not what was represented to Lindsey’s audio technicians when doing their advance on the show." Sounds like the venue was caught misrepresenting their equipment and probably felt insulted when they told their equipment doesn't quite measure up. If anyone had a babytant it was the venue...IMO.

I don't think he's necessarily actually that spoiled or that any of this is as simple as we're making it. But I'm just responding to peoples' reactions that "well if it would have made Lindsey unhappy, then I fully support him" and "it's better to cancel a show than to put one on with less than perfect sound." I don't buy it. If less than perfect sound really makes Lindsey that unhappy, and if you would rather not see him than see him with less than perfect sound, there's something wrong with both of you. If that was the case, he would never play in arenas and you would never go see him play in arenas.
But there's almost certainly more to the story. Even if it's just that he couldn't use his delays and samples and fancy effects or something. That would alter the arrangements of the songs enough that I can understand him not wanting to play without them.

Really, I didn't come over here to hate on Lindsey. I use the term in the least judgemental way possible. I respect him and his talent. I just think the more fan-friendly, less prima donna-ish response would have been to do the show and tell the audience from the beginning that there may be some sound problems, but he apologizes because it's out of his and his soundman's control. You know, make the best of the situation and soldier on, rather than demand his way or the highway.

yeah, uh, didn't you say earlier that you hadn't seen his show? forgive me if i'm wrong in assuming that you haven't noticed the equipment he's been using. it's serious equipment. not in-house type ****.
your very first post on this board was a borderline bash.. something about it being OK if you had to miss lindsey but not stevie.. some trash like that. why don't you just go back where you belong if you don't like lindsey, instead of forcing the ones who do to defend him?
he cancelled a show because the venue managers wouldn't let him use his own equipment. however many shows up to this point.. this is the first place to do so, this is the first cancellation. everybody's getting a refund. now you, mr. "somebody's being a baby".. don't listen to his music, don't buy his cds, and don't go to his shows. just take your ball and go home.

A true primadonna would have immediately left the building. It is my understanding Lindsey and crew were there for a number of hours trying to work things out to no avail. It is also my understanding that it was upsetting to Lindsey and crew that things could not be worked out. It seems the venue cared less about attendees else they would have allowed the addition of equipment....what would that have hurt? Obviously, Lindsey's techs are professional. The person who is making sound equipment decisions at the venue: "It is necessary to make proper arrangements for sound and lighting equipment through the Rococo Theatre Event Planner."

Of course the venue has just as much responsiblity to be flexible and make compromises to meet the needs of the artists and their fans. The ultimate responsiblity for this cancellation falls on Lindsey, however, because he is the one who decided to walk out.
I should also add that when Stevie cancelled shows I was supposed to attend during TISL and SYW, I was pretty po'd. Even though she was sick, had no control over that fact, and probably would have put on a sh*tty performance that would have disappointed me, I was upset that I didn't get to use my front row tickets and have that concert experience. LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM CANCELS LINCOLN CONCERT.
Lindsey Buckingham cancelled his Lincoln, NE concert last night (April 11,
2007) sighting issues he had with production due to his own management and
sound crew. Rococo staff and management were put off by his diva-like
behavior in declaring our beautiful facility a "f--king sh-thole" and
wondered if he always felt it necessary to be so rude to people who are
simply trying to put on a good show.
After an hour of sound check (and only one hour before doors) Lindsey
Buckingham rehearsed a couple of songs and proclaimed that he was done. I
can only speculate as to the disappointment of the six hundred and some odd
fans who arrived (from some very far away places) to find the show
cancelled.
As Director of Events I want to apologize on Lindsey's behalf. The Rococo
Theatre has never had a performer cancel a show. NEVER. Sound system and
the physical layout of the theatre are well known to the promoters that
brought Lindsey to Lincoln and any misrepresentation was not on the part of
the Rococo staff. In an effort to notify fans, the marquee was changed and
statements were issued to local radio stations immediately.

So, by your statement statement, you feel he should have hung all night trying to work it out, "on with the show" no matter the equipment issues? The ultimate responsbility is on the venue reporting correctly what equipment they have so a determination can be made by the performer as to whether the band CAN play there in the first place - according to the press release they failed to do that. Lindsey would certainly have scheduled elsewhere in Lincoln had the equipment details provided been straight...that is fact.

Wow, that Rococo post from the website is hilarious. Very tacky. Oh to have been a fly on the wall yesterday when all this was going down! I do hope that Lindsey's people are able to arrange for a NE venue that will satisfy his needs and allow the fans who live in the middle of nowhere to see a show. My aunt and her family live in NE. There were like 18 people in my cousins' entire high school. People out there need something to look forward to!

Story from an Omaha TV station:
http://www.ketv.com/entertainment/11736769/detail.html
OMAHA, Neb. -- Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham canceled his concert in Lincoln Wednesday because of what he considered an inadequate sound system at the Rococo Theatre.
But the venue's managers said Buckingham's "diva-like behavior," not the sound system, was the problem. Buckingham has been touring in support of his solo album, "Under the Skin."
In a message on Buckingham's Web site, "technical difficulties related to sound" were blamed for the cancellation. Buckingham's message said the theater in downtown Lincoln refused Buckingham's request to use his own equipment to supplement the sound system.
The Rococo's Pam Gregorios said Buckingham was rude to the theater's staff and didn't decide to cancel until about an hour before showtime.
Ticket holders will receive refunds.

Yeah, maybe. Imagine an entire show of Lindsey unplugged? It could have been fabulous. It would have taken a lot of flexibility and creativity, and grace, on Lindsey's part to be able to accept that things weren't as planned and move from there. The man's got a voice, and mad guitar skills...He could have pulled something out with much less equipment than the venue had to offer--even with nothing but himself and his acoustic guitar. Imagine
how special it would have been to witness something so spontaneous. A once in a lifetime experience.
Of course it's an awful lot to ask of any artist, but it could be done.
At this point I think I might be arguing just to argue, so I'll leave it at that and enjoy the rest of this discussion from the sidelines.

I'm surprised this is the first time this happened to Lindsey on this tour since he's played some small venues. I guess the fans in New Mexico tomorrow and Saturday will be in for a great show! I'm sure Lindsey will want to put everything in to these shows and leave what happened in Nebraska behind him.

From what I understand, the Rococo uses a specific sound system because there are a number of older people living in condos above the theatre who constantly complain about the noise from concerts. A DJ on a local classic rock station was sort of making fun of that this morning.
On the other hand, Jason Mraz is playing a sold out concert there tonight, as they brought up when they talked about the Lindsey fiasco this afternoon on the radio (yeah, this is big news here, apparently ;)).
Do I think Lindsey was wrong to cancel at the last minute? Yes. Do I think he needs to think back to a few months ago, when he was grateful to have fans flock to concerts? Absolutely. But, what the director of the Rococo posted on the site was very unprofessional, far less professional than what Lindsey's people did.
Waiting for them to put up a big "NO LINDSEY BUCKINGHAMS ALLOWED" billboard over the downtown I-80 exit. ;)

http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2007/04/12/news/local/doc461e63882a5b3670163750.txt
Buckingham pulls plug after sound system debate
Tammy Hayden drove from Kearney to hear Lindsey Buckingham perform Wednesday night.
She returned home disappointed.
The Fleetwood Mac rocker canceled his performance two hours before he was to take the stage at the Rococo Theatre, citing technical difficulties related to the sound. “I was freaking out,” said Hayden, who arrived 30 minutes early to find a sign on the door with no explanation. “I wanted to go so badly.”
Hayden’s disappointment is just part of a story-turned-debate, with Buckingham and the Rococo blaming each other on their Web sites for the cancellation.
According to Buckingham’s site, the singer’s audio team wasn’t happy with Rococo’s sound system and wanted to bring in additional equipment but was told it couldn’t.
“Lindsey prides himself on delivering the very best performance and production for every show, but in this case he wasn’t able to do so,” Buckingham’s Web site said.
Pam Gregorios, Rococo events director, confirmed the theater denied Buckingham’s request. She said Buckingham had his own equipment in addition to the Rococo’s, but wanted to bring in additional equipment beyond what was allowed in his contract.
She also said turning down Buckingham’s request had nothing to do with decibel levels or the residents living above the theater in the downtown building.
“Sound system and the physical layout of the theater were well known to the promoters that brought Lindsey to Lincoln, and any misrepresentation was not on the part of the Rococo staff,” Gregorios said.
Buckingham’s people argued that wasn’t the case, saying, “The sound system in the building was not what was represented to Lindsey’s audio technicians when doing their ‘advance’ on the show.”
Buckingham was rehearsing at the venue during the sound debate and returned to his hotel, but not before using expletives to describe the Rococo, Gregorios said.
“Rococo staff and management were put off by his diva-like behavior … and wondered if he always felt it necessary to be so rude to people who are simply trying to put on a good show,” she said.
Meanwhile, fans like Hayden and Tom Arsiaga were left with more questions than answers, and apologies from Buckingham and the Rococo did little for them.
“When you pay $33 for a ticket, you want more of an explanation than a locked door and a sign,” Hayden said.
Arsiaga of Lincoln arrived at 5:30 p.m. and felt he and his friends were mistreated by Rococo staff members when he approached them with questions.
“This is another step back for concerts to come here to Lincoln,” he said. “It’s another blow to us Lincolnites.”
Gregorios said she didn’t believe Rococo staff members were rude to patrons, but apologized if any were. She noted the front of the house was chaos after Buckingham announced he wasn’t going to play.
“I can appreciate that,” Gregorios said. “If we would have had sufficient notice, we could have addressed the issue a little easier.”
As for refunds, online purchases through etix.com will be refunded within a week. The Rococo will contact those who purchased tickets, priced between $30-$35, at the theater’s box office.

DavidMN is on the phone and is requesting I type the following as he does not have access to a computer at the moment:
"I am extremely angry at the few people bad-mouthing Lindsey. I have been to 11 shows and after this leg that would bring a total of 16. I do not regret one penny I have spent, or any of the miles I have traveled to see him (approx 10,000.) I have seen the kind of efforts he puts out for his fans, the respect and kindness he has shown to his fans when they have greeted him, and I have no doubt that carries over into his communications with professionals and personnel at events. I have seen this with my own two eyes. I was also there last night. I know what I observed. I saw the reps from the venue be extremely rude to fans. People who have not been to a show of Lindsey's do not know what they are talking about and should keep their mouth shut. Niki has read me the Rococo statement and they are ball-faced liars!"
David - I concur. :xoxo:

That would alter the arrangements of the songs enough that I can understand him not wanting to play without them.exactly i dont care about if lindsey might be upset that his sound wouldn't have been as good. i feel bad for all those who were going to the show not lindsey. boo hoo he must be upset about the sound thing not working out and i totally sympathise and i hope he's recovering and all that.....crap. i'd still go and see him but i don't give a **** if he's upset about it or not, do feel bad for those fans though who would have loved the show anyway.
if the beatles tour during beatlemania without ringo you would think that lindsey could have realised this problem in advance and gone on anyway.

SOUND LEVEL MANAGEMENT AT ROCOCO THEATRE, NE.
Associated Acoustical Consultants: Cross Country
The Rococo Theatre, located in Lincoln NE has been restored to its 1929 condition. There you can enjoy the unique combination of live musical acts on stage or sports on big screen.
The restoration is celebrated by artists who bring with high energy music. Neighbors, primarily in the adjacent condominium block, have found that this intrudes into their quiet. The result was a court order to restrict sound emission with the use of a Grozier system.
The sound level emission is restricted in a low frequency band of about 40 Hz to 500 Hz (Essentially that part of the frequency range that distinguishes A-weighted sound from C-weighted sound). Sound limits are based upon the number of seconds that the sound level may exceed various decibel levels. A complete record of each event is retained.
Since the system is operated by the theater, security checksum is applied to all reports.

As well, for the "Director of Events" to state they were not thinking of the neighbors upstairs in their stance is bullchit.
You say that as if it somehow is a negative thing. Lindsey and crew would have known about that well in advance, and it was a court order to keep the volume down. Should they have completely disregarded it so that Lindsey could be amplified by 10 more decibals?
By the way, I'm not trying to say Lindsey was totally wrong and the Rococo was totally right at all. It's just pretty darn obvious to me that this was not the best choice on Lindsey's part, even if the Rococo had horribly mistreated him, or lied to him, or just had a crappy sound system. He can still put on a show, if not his exact same show. Ooh, partial spontaneity, baaaaad. We can't have that. What really gets to me is the people who defend the man no matter what all the time! Your judgment is too clouded by your fondness of him. I just saw him in Chicago 3 days ago so I am still on a Lindsey high, but I can see potential flaws in him. This may not have been the best decision on his part. Admit it. You know you want to!

By JOSH FUNK, Associated Press Writer Thu Apr 12, 7:54 PM ET
OMAHA, Neb. - The managers of a Lincoln theater say Fleetwood Mac guitarist
Lindsey Buckingham's "diva-like behavior" doomed his concert there this week, and that the sound system he blames was not the problem.
In a message on Buckingham's Web site, "technical difficulties related to sound" were blamed for Wednesday's cancellation. Buckingham's message said the theater in downtown Lincoln refused Buckingham's request to use his own equipment to supplement its sound system.
"Lindsey prides himself on delivering the very best performance and production for every show, but in this case he wasn't able to do so," Buckingham's message said. "Lindsey hopes his fans in Lincoln will understand, and he looks forward to returning to Lincoln but under much better conditions."
Buckingham has been touring since October in support of his first solo album in 14 years, "Under the Skin."
Rococo Theatre events director Pam Gregorios said this was the first time it has ever had a performer cancel a show.
"Rococo staff and management were put off by his diva-like behavior ... and wondered if he always felt it necessary to be so rude to people who are simply trying to put on a good show," Gregorios said.
Buckingham's representatives did not immediately respond to questions e-mailed to them Thursday afternoon.
But a section of the Web site about the guitars Buckingham uses included a quote about how the equipment he uses isn't that important.
"It's all in the player really," Buckingham said to Rolling Stone magazine in 1979. "Look at somebody like Hendrix. It didn't matter what guitar he had or even if it was in tune. The thing is, if you can connect, you can get anything you want out of an instrument. There's no dream instrument that could give you everything. You just have to use your imagination."
Buckingham spent an hour checking the sound at the theater and rehearsing a couple songs before deciding to cancel about an hour before show time, Gregorios said.
"I can only speculate as to the disappointment of the six hundred and some odd fans who arrived to find the show canceled," Gregorios said.
Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 but bolted the group in 1987 over creative differences. The group has reunited twice since then for albums and tours.
Ticket holders will receive refunds.

While I didn't see any reports of 5:30 myself, I'll take your word for it. I see you know exactly what he was doing during the time anyway so I'm really not needed. But I will say that on Monday, doors opened at 7:30pm and at about 7:35, security told us we couldn't go in yet because he was still on stage soundchecking.
I wonder why Lindsey took the time to sound check songs? Maybe he TRIED to make it work with their equipment and found it did not? Oh sure Lindsey would have wanted people fcking with his music through the Grosier system. You may want to do your homework...take a gander how the sound is manipulated with that system.
Obviously, since this was the first soundcheck he ever did, he was just trying to work with their awful equipment and tweak it juts right so he made everyone happy. Oh, and please, enlighten us with how the sound is technically manipulated. I would love to hear your knowledge of the subject presented in your usual dignified, elegant manner.
Lindsey obviously didn't know about the equipment restriction or he WOULD have selected another venue.
Another blanket statement, much like your so called "fact" earlier, that is not only completely unprovable, but as far as I'm concerned, more than likely false. They are not secretive about it. The Grozier website even lists them as a user of their system, which they probably wouldn't if it was a secret.

Are you seriously suggesting Lindsey planned to cancel the show?
Huh? You are a crazy person, so it seems. You take my statements in the most bizarre directions. Him knowing about their sound system automatically means he was planning on canceling the show at the last minute all along? Interesting.
First of all, I'm sure he was not actively thinking "oh, this place has the Grozier system" on the ride over. I'm sure his sound people knew and either thought it wouldn't be a big deal (as it isn't for the countless other artists who play there every night) or they knew it would affect the sound, but thought they could work with it. And unless Lindsey truly is a diva control freak who has to have every little thing go his way, my guess is it was the latter. They probably thought bringing in a bit of their own equipment would add to the show but it wasn't allowed, and Lindsey presumably would have none of it.

I can understand why people would be annoyed at having the show cancelled but from all this it seems like it was all caused by both sides. Lindsey's perfectionism (diva-ism? :p) and perhaps misinformation on the part of the venue. None of us were in the venue with them, so I don't think we'll really know what happened. Regardless of what both sides say. I do think the venue's website addressing of the whole thing was tacky though.

It wasn't but the conversation has come to that Grozier system conclusion on its own. It's much easier than actually basing it on available facts.
Still, if not having a couple extra devices, which I imagine were not necessary for a successful performance, makes him pout that much, it's spoiled city. Population - at least one.

Well, I mean, it just depends. If he needs his amps and processors to achieve the sounds he's using, I can understand him feeling like he can't put on his show. Especially this show, which is very heavy on effects and overall ambiance.
I just can't believe they wouldn't let him use his equipment. That seems totally out of line to me. Maybe if he was a single guitarist using a single guitar and a single microphone. But the console he's been using is massive.. that leads me to believe he's running a lot of stuff. As a musician, I can't say I blame him for not wanting to sound totally naked.

I wanted to share a message that I posted on the Journal Star's blog page today. The message that the Event Director of the Rococo posted on the front page annoyed me for reasons that had little to do with Lindsey, and more to do with her lack of business sense:
While I definitely fault Buckingham for cancelling at the last minute when he certainly could have modified the show, I also found the message posted on the Rococo's website inappropriate and unprofessional coming from the event director of what is supposed to be a major venue. By posting on the front page of the public website the perhaps not-so-nice expletives that LB uttered in frustration, she could alienate other musicians who planned to perform at the Rococo: would you really want to perform at a venue where the person in charge has no qualms about posting your outbursts to the staff on the front page of the venue's website? Again, not that Buckingham wasn't wrong -- many fans drove for hours to see him -- but I find that event director's unprofessional comments show a definite lack of common business sense on her part.

poor lindsey something wasn't spot on. defend him endlessly online til we've forgotten that we were meant to pick our own children up from school and are reported for neglect. but we'll never neglect lindsey. \
something wasn't spot on, others have performed there since (I think) so it can't have been that bad, yet the whole thing is cancelled at the last second. that crap about him wanting to give the audience the very best is a load of bull****. not every show is the best one ever and you would much rather get one with a less than perfect sound than none at all. as i said before, if the beatles could tour at the height of beatlemania without 1/4 of the reason the world was going nuts for them then lindsey "who on earth is that" buckingham could do one gig that wasn't his absolute best.
love the man's music but he's no saint and no matter how much you wanna have his babies and kiss his feet, that was just a bad move

I'm thinking that maybe if you don't like Lindsey you should just like, uh, go away and not bother with trying to convince the rest of us that he's a spoiled little brat.hang on you really have it arse-about here.
if a band cancels and you are happy about it and saying its a good idea i would think that means you dont care about the band and arent a fan. if a band cancels and you are annoyed or not happy with the artists decision that would mean you were wanting to see the show and are a fan. your saying that iI'm thinking that maybe if you don't like Lindsey you should just like, uh, go away and not bother with trying to convince the rest of us...... I'm thinking maybe it means they love lindsey
you doesn't make any sense at all! if christine mcvie were going to play here then canceled I'd be one of the ones saying whatever she wanted to cancel she can do what she wants cause I'm not a fan and don't care. if lindsey did that I'd be upset and annoyed with him and what went down cause I'm a fan.
you got it totally the wrong way around and shouldn't tell people they can't be annoyed if they want to be true fans.

Lindsey's absolutely 100% correct and right for what he done. Why settle for a second rate performance due to things that were beyond his control and then be the person who gets the blame afterwards for a crap sounding show.
Roy Keane (16) went to the world cup with the Irish football team, they were't provided with a proper training ground, the right equipment wasnt available and what did he do.....he got up and left.
Now on this side of the water he hs a much much bigger icon than Lindsey ever was or will be. And his fame will never be forgotten.
He never settled for second best, the powers above just wanted ireland to compete, a 1 - 0 loss against Italy or Argentina is a good result for Ireland. Is it ?????? BULL*HIT.
Was he critised for leaving the team and all his fans behind ? Of course he was !!!
Was he right to do it.? Damn Sure he was !!!
These kind of people are successful superstars because their mentality and abition is never to settle for second best and never accept something that "will just do".
So for you people sitting down complaining about how wrong what Lindsey has done. Tell us this, what have you ever done ?

there's nothing worse for a singer/guitar player then having a bad sound system. lindsey made the right decision. professional musicians don't charge money for tickets and then perform with a ****ty sound system. unless they're assholes and don't care about their fans. he'll come back and play at a place that deserves to have him.
The only thing about that is it looks as if many other bands and artists have performed there, seemingly without incident. Wouldn't you think if the sound system was that bad it would be common knowledge among musicians? I think he should have played. Whats acceptable to him as far as sound goes I'm sure is a standard much higher than 90% of the people that would have been attending. Now, the fact that he may have had an attitude that affected his performance because of what he perceived was inferior sound is a different story.

Well, I mean, it just depends. If he needs his amps and processors to achieve the sounds he's using, I can understand him feeling like he can't put on his show. Especially this show, which is very heavy on effects and overall ambiance.
Not saying he was right or wrong, and I don't know the first thing about sound systems, but doesn't anybody find it ironic that a show to support a so-called "stripped down" album is so heavily-reliant on effects? Just saying. And ambiance, IMO, is totally separate from special effects. IMO, the suggestion below would create much more "ambiance" than special effects dependant on a more robust sound system:
Imagine an entire show of Lindsey unplugged? It could have been fabulous. It would have taken a lot of flexibility and creativity, and grace, on Lindsey's part to be able to accept that things weren't as planned and move from there. The man's got a voice, and mad guitar skills...He could have pulled something out with much less equipment than the venue had to offer--even with nothing but himself and his acoustic guitar. Imagine
how special it would have been to witness something so spontaneous. A once in a lifetime experience.
I would kill to see Lindsey perform such a show!
Of course, I don't think anyone would accuse either of the fronting musicians of FM of being very spontaneous these days.
I respect Lindsey for wanting to give a first-rate performance, but it really sucks for fans who had tickets, especially those who travelled a long distance to see him. I hope he makes good on rescheduling at a different venue, and does so quickly.

This may include a wide range of specialized microphones, mixers, amplifiers and loudspeaker systems. But in order to apply automatic sound level control, all the artist's audio signal must be intercepted for control. This will be impractical until there is an industry standard for making this interception readily possible." http://www.grozier.com/Rococo.shtml

I don't think the effects make his show, I think HE makes his show. But they are a big part of this tour, and, obviously his equipment is what they've been used to in rehearsal and performance.
You can't possibly expect him to turn a show with such a large portion of electric numbers into a completely unplugged show with a couple hours notice. Some artists, sure. This one, no.
It's irrational to think that he would, especially after 1. the venue's equipment was misrepresented during booking and 2. the venue's workers were apparently rude. If I was him, I'd be pissed as hell too. They wouldn't even let them bring additional equipment off the truck to TEST it and SEE if it would work. F that. Many other venues bend over backwards to come to an agreement with the artist so that the patrons will be pleased. It looks like this one barely even tried.

"Hello, is this the Walter Reed Army Medical Center? I'm Lindsey Buckingham's tour manager. You know that chick who goes over there every couple months to hand out Ipods and sings to the wounded soldiers? Yeah, Stevie Nicks. Well, I'd like to know if I could maybe set up a visit with her, uh, ex-boyfriend. Yes, her ex-boyfriend from like, 30 years ago. Actually, he plays guitar. Who? Yes, he's that guy who wrote Go Your Own Way. You see, he went and did a funny thing a couple days ago. He canceled one of his concerts and made a big fuss about it. He called the theater a, well, a... (whispers) "****ing ****hole." Woah, hold on there a minute! He's actually quite talented, but he has issues. No sir, unresolved issues. The kind we all have. Now hold on a minute, Lieutenant. Nobody can actually prove he tried to strangle her. Right. Okay. I wasn't really concerned about this at first, but it's terribly embarrassing, and the whole thing's on the front page of CNN. (pause) Scroll down a bit, it's under entertainment. Okay, there.
Look, I just want to give him something to do while the heat's down on him. This whole situation is bound to stir up some problems. Just half an hour with the patients. That's all he needs. Maybe even a quick photoshoot, a message on his website, all is forgiven. Can I do that?"

The Associated Press sent this out on the wire this morning with all the show prep.
ROCK: FLEETWOOD MAC'S LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM CANCELS SHOW
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Lindsey Buckingham has caused a brouhaha by calling off a show this week in Lincoln, Nebraska. In a message on his Web site, he blames "technical difficulties." He adds the theater refused his request to use his own equipment to supplement the sound system. Theater managers are telling a different story. They say Buckingham's "diva-like behavior" doomed his show. They say he was extremely rude to staff and management. The theater's events director says Buckingham spent an hour checking the sound at the theater and rehearsing a couple of songs before deciding to cancel about an hour before the doors opened.
Interestingly enough, the Alanis cover of My Humps (as seen on the Chit Chat forum) was also mentioned on the wire today.
POP: FERGIE SENDS ALANIS MORISSETTE A CAKE FOR REMAKING HER HUMPS SONG
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Fergie thinks Alanis Morissette is a genius. Morissette's version of Fergie's "My Humps" has become a hit on YouTube and Fergie thinks the video is brilliant. People magazine reports Fergie sent Morissette a cake in the shape of a rear end, with a note that read "Alanis, you're a genius."

One thing that hasn't been posted here is an apology. On behalf of the citizens of Lincoln I would like to apologize to Lindsey and his crew as well as to all those that traveled to Lincoln. The Rococo management does not represent our city very well, in fact if Lindsey did refer to the venue as a "f*&$ing sh$#hole" - I share the same opinion (it's not a very nice facility). I was very surprised to see that they had booked him there after seeing him at the Uptown in Kansas City.
I was able to speak with Lindsey's crew while they were setting up and the tour manager was arranging a meeting between Lindsey and I so he could autograph a guitar for a charity auction for children. Unfortunately Lindsey had just left the venue when I arrived but his staff was so friendly, sincere and apologetic.
Once again I wish to apologize for everyone who traveled a distance to stay in our city only to be disappointed. Hopefully we will get another chance to host Lindsey and can find a way to make it up to him and everyone else.
I won't go into who is to blame but I have dealt with the staff at Rococo on other occasions and have been less than impressed.

That was a load of bull**** for the venue to post what Lindsey said. It's not like the theater is a little punk rock, ****-you-and-your-ego dive that can get away with that kind of thing. Real classy move on their part.

Hence my reaction to this.
But hey, life goes on.
I have to agree. If I were going to this show, I too would think "Lindsey with less than perfect sound is better than no Lindsey at all." I do think the site's message is unprofessional, with the misspelling of "citing" to boot, and that they should have been more flexible. I guess I can see both sides, but I do think that Lindsey should have considered the fact that he was going to be disappointing a whole lot of people and, as you said earlier, "soldier on." He's "very upset", yes, but not as upset as those who were told to suck it up and go home. Now, if he reschedules there soon, then I'd say he really did mean that he was "very upset" because it shows he cares enough to make up for it.

BTW, I just read through the whole thread and I find the hyper-defensiveness of some folks both surprising and off-putting. One can disagree with those critical of Lindsey without acting as if they're devoid of mental faculties, morally corrupt, or dependent on insulting Lindsey in order to give meaning to their lives. Not to say those who are critical are blameless - some of them are out of line, too - it's just that some of the folks defending Lindsey are getting downright rabid in a way that I never would have expected from them.
Take it easy, people.

OK --it took a while for us to get here, but I knew we would.
Personal insults, including name-calling is not cool. Period.
Talk about Lindsey, whether he's a asshole or a God, whether he was right or wrong, but when the conversation becomes about other Ledgies, it's pretty good indication that you're in the wrong place.
Cut it out.
Thank you.

Do any of you think, Liddy Buck will pick up Lincoln on the fourth leg??
I would love to see him.
It would be cool to get him back here and get the drama out of the air. ;)

I don't think he is going to play the Rococo. Their isn't much left in Lincoln for him to play besides Pershing Auditorium, which is probably too big for this tour. He could play my backyard as I could easily fit about 200 people.. ;)
Maybe the Lied Center, but I don't think that would be a great place for his type of show.

Lincoln's only thirty minutes away, so I am content if it is any where there, which it probably would be ... although maybe he would go to Omaha or something.

Maybe, if Liddy Buck reads the Ledge, he will read this and come back to Nebraska.
Dear Liddy Buck,
Please come back. No hard feelings. It doesn't have to be the Rococo Theater with the Neo-Nazi managment.
"Nebraska" says he/she has a backyard just waiting for you, and it could hold 200 people!!! You could do multiple dates, taking turns in backyards! And our backyards are sometimes 160 acres!
You could even sing "On the Wrong Side" and dedicate it to the Rococo Theater!
And as a final number -- "Dancin' 'Cross the USA"!!!
We'd love it! :]

I sent my contact at Pershing Auditorium an email asking if he heard if Lindsey has even approached anybody about playing here.
Omaha does have good facilities but being from Lincoln - I liked the idea of driving 10 minutes to see him.
Just to let everyone know - when he's at my backyard - it's lawn only - no reserved seats - cameras are permitted everywhere.

Backyard Lindsey concert! ;)
The Rococo still hasn't refunded my ticket, and I've tried to go there a few times in person, but the box office is always closed. There was also nothing on the marquee for several weeks and now all that's up there is something for Lincoln Public Schools. Hmm.
But the good news is that when I blasted OOTC while stopped at a red light the other day, the guy in the next car started dancing. So Lincoln still loves Lindsey. ;)

This whole thing might be getting blown out of proportion but whats with Lindsey's temper lately; first it was an innocent guitar now a whole show gets obliterated  Oh well its only rock&roll
lately? the man can play a mean guitar... he's quite original too... but let's face it, he's a bitch

It does not sound like Lindsey is looking at any place in Lincoln for his fourth leg. That doesn't rule out Omaha or Grand Island (they just built a new arena). My source was pretty sure he wouldn't be playing in Nebraska in the immediate future. I hope they were wrong - we'll have to wait and see.

Well, I would say that us Nebraskans are S.O.L. on getting Liddy Buck back here...and it wasn't our fault he didn't play.
He's added dates
June 26th Rapid City, SD
June 27th Sioux Falls, SD
June 28th Fargo, ND
June 30th Milwaukee, WI
So....here I am...sitting here...imagining I am in Vegas.....and I am rolling the dice....screaming COME ON 29!!!!
(i.e. June 29th - Lincoln or Omaha or Grand Island or ?)
But I am thinking...."It ain't gonna happen."
BUMMER!!!! :distress:
So, if I wanna see him...it's gonna be "crossing the border time".
Sioux Falls or Bust!
(The eternal optimist in me though, says he's gonna come to Nebraska on the 29th....) wink, wink, hint, hint....
