Someone over on 7W caught the Mark and Brian show this morning, where Stevie phoned in for an interview. One of the things they discussed is the upcoming tour and the setlist. She said they were going to have a new stage and a new setlist. New stuff combined with old stuff, and one of the things she was going to add was a solo version of Silver Springs (that scares me).
(Oh, and she said it was Lindsey's fault the BN album hasn't been put on CD yet. Now, what was Lindsey saying again? These people... )

i'm going to go ahead and disagree -- i saw the last night silver springs was performed on the syw tour and it was out of control amazing. she was fierce. however, silver springs would not be the same without lindsey -- it just wouldn't be. just like i feel as though there are certain songs fleetwood mac should never touch without christine's presence. it just doesn't work. silver springs IS stevie and lindsey -- i think back to '97...that song got people hooked on the band. i just don't feel it will translate well to solo-stevie, imho.

I was not impressed at all with her vocals on SS during the SYW tour. Granted, it was a hard song and ultimately got dropped to spare her voice, but I just can't help but wonder how it's going to be this time around. And, yes, I did not get to witness Silver Springs in all its glory with all the key figures present and all the electricity bouncing back and forth. I was merely basing my opinion on what I heard, never saw.
There is no Silver Springs without Lindsey though, it's almost sacriligious. I think she mentioned in the interview that around the Dance Silver Springs somehow got to be about her and Lindsey (and who's fault was that?) while it always used to be her song, so it almost sounds like she's trying to get it back to just being her.

I wonder what new songs she'll add to the setlist. I would just hate for her to add a song that she can't pull off in her "today" voice and just sound flat the WHOLE time........ PLease don't jump on my back for saying it, but it is true.

Well count me as the first to say I'm very excited about this. Lots of those casual fans who come to see her solo show actually expect her to sing this song because they loved it and have no real idea about the soap opera behind it. Also without Lindsey, and with whatever range she attempts on it, I think it could give the song a new vibe. Yeah it might not be as good but I don't think she'll totally ruin it. It's her song and she can do with it what she wants. Hell she may even have Chris Isaak sing it with her!
Besides what are you gonna do? Boo her?

I hope that she adds more than Silver Springs to the setlist. Maybe she'll add Planets of the Universe? And, I don't know why she doesn't sing Bella Dona. Totally easy vocals on that song, if you ask me. I would die happy if she added Wild Heart to the setlist too.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, but whenever Stevie talks about changing the set list, I can't help but remember all the interviews about the 2005 Vegas shows where she said "It would be like nothing we ever saw before". It doesn't upset me that much that she never mixes things up, but it does upset me that she says she is going to and then doesn't.

I remember an interview with Waddy a couple years ago (I think it was either the beginning of the TISL tour) and he had told Stevie to do something they had never performed before and they had tried Bella Donna and the arrangment was just to difficult... I would love to hear it, Wild Heart too... lets keep hoping

"...That's a wild tune, "Bella Donna." I tried to get Stevie to do that one . . . but there is a lot of stuff to remember in that one. I mean on the last tour (Trouble In Shangri-la tour) I kept saying, "we need something unique, something that you don't do often, like 'Bella Donna.'" Then we listened to it, and went, "Too much work! (laughing) Too hard." Then I was like, "Did we actually used to perform this?" "

that's the difference: lindsey puts in something like Red Rover, and Bella Donna is too hard for Stevie's band to add. If you want to renew yourself and give a new "punch" to your show, you'll have too stretch. I don't hold my breath for this tour. What a shame. Bella Donna, Wild Heart, POTU, Sorcerer, Highwayman, come on Stevie. Silver Springs? What are you trying to prove?

I would be thrilled to have Silver Springs in the CV setlist. It's my favorite song ever and I thought she did a fine job with it during SYW. I opened this thread, curious to see what the spoilers would be. SS? That's it? Meh. I think she already does more than enough Mac material, why add another Mac tune? You're promoting your VBO package, so sing some of the solo tunes that are on the damn CD&DVD, Stevie!
I'm assuming she'll be doing Rhiannon, Landslide and Dreams, right? I really think that's plenty. She has stellar solo material that fans want to hear, so I don't get it. Of course, I'm trying to remind myself that Stevie's setlist plans rarely seem to come to fruition. So I'm hoping this doesn't happen, to be honest.
I don't want to start a 73rd setlist thread, so here is my wishlist. I'm being realistic here - I feel we will never hear Bella Donna or Wild Heart or Angel - but why can't this happen? No particular order:
Stand Back
Dreams
If Anyone Falls
Planets of the Universe
Rhiannon
Rooms on Fire
Talk To Me
Landslide
Blue Denim
Beauty & the Beast
Edge
R&R
Seriously, even casual fans will know most, if not all, of those tunes.
With Chris Isaak:
After The Glitter Fades (I think this could be incredible)
Solitary Man
It's Late
A Chris song (I'm not familiar enough with his work to recommend a tune)

I have a feeling we might get some gems in the set this time around
She is probabaly going to pick her set out of these songs....
Gold Dust Woman
Talk To Me
Rooms On Fire
Dreams
Edge Of Seventeen
Silver Springs
Planets Of The Universe
Beauty And The Beast
Leather And Lace
Stop Draggin' My Heart Aroung
Landslide
Rhiannon
Rock & Roll
Fall From Grace
Sorcerrer
If Anyone Falls
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You
How Still My Love
I Can't Wait
But since this is a shared show, I bet we only get about good 13 or 14 songs, plus with her feeling the need to cover rock and roll. I see us only getting 13 of her songs.... BUt i bet she throws a bone this time around. I can feel it! :blob2:

I'm thinking she will do "Whole Lotta Trouble," since she mentioned it on the DVD...she did it on the Enchanted tour, and even though I don't think it sounded that great, she can still pull it off.

We all have our own preferences....I think WLT is totally trite and lightweight. Whereas Silver Springs is the most amazing song ever written. I agree that WLT is sort of different given that she hasn't done it since the Millennium Tour.
Personally, I'd rather hear something completely different than Silver Springs or WLT. It is Stevie's lack of real creativity around these set lists that forces her fans to argue over whether they'd rather have Silver Springs or WLT.

From the Tom Petty board:
"Stevie Nicks came on the Mark and Brain show this morning for a 10-15 minute interview about her new greatest hits album. She had a lot of complimentary things to say about Tom and the 27 shows she did with he and the Heartbreakers last summer. She said that was as much fun as she's ever had on tour and that being a Heartbreaker and being on stage with them was great. She said for Tom to welcome her on his stage, give her the mic and step back really shows his hospitality and what a southern gentleman he is. 'Stop Draggin' came up and she recalled how Tom had given the song to her before she really knew him and recording the music video (her first). At that point she didn't really know the words to the song and hadn't done any lip syncing before, so in the video you can see some looks Tom was giving her, sort of thinking "come on, I gave you this song, the least you could do is learn the words!" Pretty funny. Anyway, fair amount of Tom mentioned in the interview, thought I'd share that with y'all."

Yup. I adore Silver Springs and was devastated when she ditched it from the SYW tour. I caught the last live version in Atlanta, too. It should not be done with another guy. She made the song all about her and Lindsey in 1997 and that is just the way it is now! :D I am pretty traumatized by the idea of her singing it with Eye Sack......:o

I liked how they did it on the Mirror Tour (instrumentally). By the end of the European dates I thought they absolutely nailed it.

She doesn't need Eye Sack, she doesn't need Lindsey. SS is her song and it's a masterpiece. She doesn't need to look at Lindsey with fake anger to deliver it.

 OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!! *bursts into tears*
Okay, maybe at this stage it could possibly be fake ;) But that doesn't change what we relate the song with and how we see it. It really is a song about Stevie and Lindsey and it needs those two components to work. I'd hate to see it done any other way.
Talk to Me? No chance! Given what we've seen lately I don't think she'd be up for this at all.
And Oh God, tell me she never seriously considered the Highwayman to do live? Help.

I'd hate to see it done any other way.I don't think "Silver Springs" necessarily needs Lindsey on stage to be effective any more than "Go Your Own Way" needs Stevie. Certainly the presence of each during those songs adds an interesting element of tension and drama, but they're both brilliant songs even when divorced from the on-stage "soap opera."

Exactly - I thought La Nicks did a great job on The Chain in her solo 1994 show. I think LB does a good job of it as well. Personally, I think I would be too tired of it to play it in a solo set (same for any FM hit or concert staple) -but apparently they are not.

If Stevie wants to perform SS solo this summer, so be it. As a long time fan, I can certainly decide whether I want to spend good money to watch it.
GYOW was never "about" SnL onstage. Stevie chose to capitalize on the SS drama in 97, so she made the song about FM and BN. Now, she wants to change history.

GYOW and The Chain don't need the other member(s) present to work, but Silver Springs is sort of like a little drama play they perform, and I just don't think it will work without Lindsey there. The original version of the song delivers the last part of the song filled with anger and hurt and a lot of other emotions in it, the way it always got performed on stage also. Who is she going to direct those emotions to now, her mic stand? For me it will be an anti-climax after all those wonderful performances during The Dance tour. I didn't even really want them to do it during the SYW tour, they should have left it at that after The Dance.
And if she's only doing it to 'make a statement' it's even worse. Way to ruin a song, Stevie.
UnwindedDreams
04-09-2007, 07:40 AM
I really don't know what the big deal is. SS is a song. That she's going to play live. Nobody really cares who she lets her emotions out on. They're too busy enjoying the song to notice a "soap opera." I think Lindsey could care less if she did it on her own.

I don't know - they sure do play the ending up in concert. So, if she does it solo, she will have to do something to fill that void, which I think most will see. Personally, I think she can do it as she is very talented and can do wonders on stage. I say this because she sings Landslide without LB and the crowd loves it, though many Ledgies protest it is no good without LB for essentially the same reason as SS, i.e. The emotions in The Dance performance.
Interestingly, La Nicks has said she could never play SS in her solo set because of the emotions the crowd associates with that song during The Dance performance.

What is it?
I think the point is that many people, particularly the shippers, think SS is an ode to the LB and La Nicks love affair. I think they think that La Nicks singing it alone is offensive to that because the song, to them and many more, is so associated with the climax at the end of The Dance performance, which clearly is an ode to their past love affair when it was performed the first few times. They think the song will be flat at the ending on a solo tour without that visual, which LB and La Nicks have played up to that effect for years now. They also I think consider the song in a solo set as a sort of fukc you to the fans who think this way in general and to LB, which is ironic considering the song itself is the ultimate fukc you to LB in the first place. I do not say this with any discrepect because I, too, think the song is very associated with The Dance performace and am way curious to see how she handles it solo.
Interestingly, I think the 77 versions probably did not have her in LB's face (just an assumption on my part) and that ending is hella better IMO that the audio of The Dance version. So, I guess we'll see.
On edit -I think a few people like to demean the shippers solely for holding out SS as their relationship oriented mantra. I think that is wrong because we are all entitled to our opinons and this is a discussion board.

Nice, Jason, but you don't need to be a 'shipper' to feel that way. In many ways, yes, you are right, but what pisses me off right now is just the fukc you part, because it annoys me. And it annoys me because she herself made Silver Springs what it is today by that kick ass performance of the song back in 1997 and then now goes on saying that somehow it got to be about her and Lindsey (oh really, Stevie?) so she's going to do it solo now.
It's not even really about their relationship, past, present, existing, non-existing, whatever. I love Silver Springs to death, in whatever version it comes, but when the stars are aligned right, it's always more special. Just like I enjoy SDMHA when she performs it with Tom Petty a thousand times more than when she does it with Waddy.

I agree that it is not just shippers, which is why I said many people. If I implied only the shippers feel that way, that is not what I meant. I do think the shippers hold this song dear though and they hold it dearer than most for that reason.
Also, La Nicks said in many an interview around the time of The Dance that she made/sang the song that way on purpose, including the way she did the ending. To my knowledge, she never said suddenly people associate it with this and I have no clue why.
In the end, I think she should add a solo song in her solo set and leave SS as a FM only kind of thing. But, if she adds it, I will be curious to see how she ends it.

It'll be same ****, different tour as always.
Perhaps with a slight variation on:
Enchanted
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
Outside The Rain
Dreams
Sorcerer
Rhiannon (piano version)
Rhiannon (rock version)
Stand Back
Landslide
Gold Dust Woman
Fall From Grace
(Drum solo)
Edge of Seventeen
Rock And Roll
Beauty and the Beast
She MIGHT add in "If Anyone Falls" for a short time.
I'll believe "new setlist" stuff when I see it. Of course, she could also surprise the hell out of us and add ONE song that she hasn't done before but it'll be a cover.

I really don't think Stevie has thought through this stuff enough to say to herself "I'm gonna do SS without LD as a fukc you to my fans". The song is her masterpiece, it did not receive the respect it deserved from the beginning, and she is making up for lost time by singing it as much as and whenever she wants. Which is why it was on CV songlist for a short time.
I will be perfectly happy to see Stevie sing it to us without the scripted turning of mic to express fake anger to Lindsey. Perhaps she'll rework it a bit. The woman is capable of expressing emotion without Lindsey next to her.

Why is everyone using the excuse that it is "her damn song"? She gave it to Fleetwood Mac to produce and release! I could care less about her singing it to Lindsey, that was not my point. She used that for all it was worth to rebuild her career in 1997. I will, however, be sick if she sings it to Waddy. :D Comparing it to GYOW is not even fair because Stevie already has four or five other FM staples as part of her solo set. GYOW was not used to lure thousands of new fans with the whole Stevie and Lindsey love/hate drama. It feels like she is trying to rewrite history and IMHO, Silver Springs should stay part of Fleetwood Mac's history, especially in relation to The Dance. The song is a masterpiece and seeing it finally get its due in 1997 was a moment that I will never forget.

I had concerns about hearing that Stevie was going to feature songs from Fleetwood Mac on her (impending) solo collection. It's like "you don't mix church and state --it's just wrong!" But I've come around, because you have to look at Crystal Visions as a statement of her artistry throughout time - and not deliniate between her solo and group work. I give her credit for being a little creative with her choices:
Silver Springs - the immense magic of the song warrents it's appearance, even though it appeared in live version on the Dance, and the studio versions that appeared on The Chain box set, The Rumours re-issue and The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac....oh, and the Live In Boston disc.
Rhiannon - Yes, it never goes away - we've got the studio version, the single remix, the LIVE version, the Enchanted piano version, the Live In Boston version etc, etc. Yet, I really like the new live version -- it has power to it, and shows Stevie off for how she is today.
Landslide - What more can be said? A great live version with strings and horns! Who can complain about that?
Dreams - I guess a lot of people will/complain about this remix. But I think it gave the song a facelift and a sense of currency. I prefer this to the tired old 1977 version. And it has new vocals -- and shows she can still hit the high notes when she wants to.

Fleetwood Mac or Solo, those are her songs and I think she can do whatever she likes with them. A song can have many lives, IMO, it can be written and rewritten, performed and deconstructed, obviously as a fan I don't have to like all its faces, but it's always an intriguing challenge. Then according to my tastes, I would have preferred to listen to Storms or SOTM live but I'm also curious to hear this new Silver Springs.

Question: How can you tell what shows Chris will be at, and which ones will be just Stevie????
I don't see anything that specifies........

It might be. I've been speculating that she'll do a full setlist with or without him. But we'll only know when the tour starts.

hey, fellow buckeye! :wavey:
i believe they're listed differently on ticketmaster ... if you search ticketmaster for "stevie nicks," her solo shows are listed separately from the shows she's doing with eye sack.
oh, and as for your comment: :p

Wasnt that what ALL of the Rumors songs were all about?
I mean yeah, its a good song, but the drama helped it as well. Thats a fact.
No, I was specifically talking about the impact that Silver Springs had during The Dance. The song was all over MTV and thousands of new Mac fans were gained. The drama of the performance definately drew some of those fans in. When I first started reading this board, most of the fans who posted were people who fell in love with FM in 1997, from watching The Dance and specifically SS. GYOW did none of that. He can use it in his solo set, just like Stevie can do Dreams, Rhiannon, GDW, ETC. Silver Springs just feels different, to me, because of the whole Dance era. Stevie's career was pretty much down the drain (my opinion, I am sure not everyones) and The Dance and the whole SnL drama she created during Silver Springs, help to reinvent her.
It is certainly her choice but she has lots of other great songs to choose from. I will be pretty unhappy if she pulls this one out solo.

. . . SnL drama she created during Silver Springs, help to reinvent her . . . .
I'd say restablish her instead of reinvent her as FM has always been about the drama of relationships, particularly La Nicks and LB, who were way more public about the post Rumors drama than CM and John - and they used that to sell records - though nowhere near the conscious attemot established in The Dance during the SS performance and the press surrounding The Dance.
But, I agree, add a solo career song before SS.
