Since we are being offered several measly crumbs from the MSO shows on the upcoming Crystal Visions, it inspired me to carefully listen to the one full show I have -- Melbourne February 06 (not sure of day...anyone?).

The predominent thought is that the project was essentially shelved because of faulty recording. But didn't they record more than one night?

From what I can discern from my fairly descent recording, the band can also be blamed. They played very loud and aggressively, seemingly indiffent to the orchestra. It appears that very little imaginative effort was put into producing a unique show that fully integrated and featured the orchestra.

No, as usual they just go through the motions, and start the show with a typical opener, Outside The Rain. The strings are reduced to a background drone over a dominant guitar. Rhiannon, with its big string build-up intro, would have been a great opener.

The songs that faired best are Beautiful Child, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, Landslide, Beauty and The Beast, and Gold Dust Woman (the latter two should have been included on the new comp).
Sorcerer may be good too, but it's hard to hear through the drone.

Wish she would have thought of performing Kind Of Woman. That song lends itself to orchestration, especially the intrumental part. Also, Everybody Finds Out!

Also, Everybody Finds Out!
I think we'd all love to hear her do this in any way, shape or form.

Yeah, and she had a great opportunity to do the song justice with the MSO! Oh well. Everybody Gets Sad.:distress:

I liked it. B&TB and GDW were amazing. Sorcerer I also loved. IAF was good too. "Stand Back" however was one of the worst performaces I have heard - she didn't go for any of the high notes - it was just a drone :(

I enjoyed the concert and got to meet Stevie, but I must admit the dvd of the Melbourne Concert was easier to listen too with the orchestra. The sound on the dvd is bloody fantastic and you can appreciate what the orchestra offered in the contribution to her songs

You have to keep in mind any recordings we have with the MSO are all bootlegs. Granted, they are very good bootlegs, but boots nonetheless. With that in mind, if they wanted to released this they would take it into the studio and clean it up. They could bring the orchestra up, push the band back, bring Stevie's vocals up etc. My point is the bootlegs haven't been mixed yet. The mixing process can very much change what you end up hearing.
