DNA test ordered for Anna Nicole Smith's baby

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) -- A Bahamian judge ordered a DNA test Tuesday on Anna Nicole Smith's infant daughter to identify the girl's father, an attorney for the baby's grandmother said.

The result could end a bitter custody feud sparked by the death of the former reality TV star last month.

Larry Birkhead, an ex-boyfriend of the Playboy playmate who asked the judge to order the test on 6-month-old Dannielynn, pumped his fists in the air and jumped up and down as he emerged from the private court hearing.

"It's been a good day in court for me," he told reporters. Asked if he thought he would see the girl soon, he only smiled and winked.

Deborah Rose, an attorney for Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, confirmed that the judge ordered the test but she and others who attended the hearing declined to describe the proceedings.

Authorities left the building after the hearing and could not immediately be reached for comment.

Smith's most recent companion, Howard K. Stern, who is listed as the father on the girl's birth certificate, left the courthouse in a black sport utility vehicle as Birkhead greeted a crowd of cheering tourists.

Smith, 39, died February 8 after collapsing in a Florida hotel. Authorities have not disclosed the cause.

Stern has been caring for the girl in the gated, waterfront home where he lived with Smith in the months before she died. The Bahamian courts have ordered Stern not to leave the country with the girl before a custody ruling.

Arthur wants to take Dannielynn from Stern, arguing she could provide a more stable home. She did not speak as she exited the courthouse and left in a white limousine.

The girl, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, could inherit millions from the estate of Smith's late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II. Smith had been fighting his family over his estimated $500 million fortune since his death in 1995.

Frederic von Anhalt, the husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor, also says he may be Dannielynn's father. Last month, he also filed legal documents seeking a DNA test to determine if he is the father.

The judge was not arrested. He was given a misdemeanor citation to appear in court.

‘‘Judge Korda was not given special treatment because of his status as a circuit court judge,’’ Rode said. ‘‘He was provided with a notice to appear. That’s exactly what 99 percent of other offenders would have been given for this type of offense.’’

I agree. I know Howard is looking like the total enabler here. But he's been at her side for many years and I think he really loved Anna. People who care for an addict sometimes can't stop themselves from letting the addicted kill themselves.

And I agree he's sweet looking too. Way more my type than Larry who has a very "Kato Kaelin" aura about him.

She was on Methadone for pain - had taken tamiflu & cipro

The injection into her buttock, that was from either B12 or HGH (Human Growth Hormone), ruptured a prior abscess thus causing the high fever (Sounds like septic shock from the infection to me)

So it was just too much of a bunch of stuff & it all interacted. I'm sure the infection didn't help matters, who knows if it had gotten in her blood yet. A fever that high, a stomach bug....she was probably horribly dehydrated. Too bad she didn't go to the hospital when they asked her to. :(

Many drug dealers use forged prescriptions or buy prescriptions off people who can legitimately go in and get a prescription. Around here, I know of several older people (read: elderly) who get prescriptions then sell the entire bottle for one price. Sometimes people do very desperate things to make ends meet. Not because they're horrible people. I can (but don't) go into my doctor's office and legitimately get prescriptions for some of my pains and mental problems. I can (but don't) take that paper to the pharmacy and have it filled for 20-whatever bucks, turn around, and sell each individual pill for a jacked up street price to jacked up friends. I can (but don't) make 8 bucks per pill on a certain 10mg pill when it only cost me $1.50 per pill to start with. The needy greedy have a hard time turning profit like that down for the sake of morals, as unfortunate as it is. You don't think about who you're selling to or who they're going to turn around and sell it to or whatever else they're going to do with it... including the possibility that it may very likely end up in the hands of a kid, through an older kid, who got it from an older kid, who got it from a dude. You just think that you need to make xx-ty dollars off this to have the money you need for your next turnover or bill.

America can take its war on drugs and thumb it up its ass, imo. It's a waste of money, and drugs will never be stopped. So long as bureaucrats can continue to find someone to "treat" or punish, they will still have a job.
