My Lily Tomlin story is up on the web!

I thought this deserved its own thread...because, well, it's Lily Tomlin, and me...in a story I produced.

Keep in mind we're a small operation...this is by no means a big NPR production - but I'm happy with it....

Since I'm "on the list" to meet her on Saturday - I'll post a pic on here...if I get one :p

Thanks :o I always think I sound like a dope...but I appreciate the compliment...

And I appreciate all your kind words - I was very excited to even get this interview. And actually I've not done a produced piece like this in about a year - and I've never had to turn one around so fast, so overall I'm happy with the outcome.

I bought a whole new outfit (even shoes) today - I'm so excited...I really hope I get to meet her - so I can have a picture with her and my cute new outfit (and shoes)

I love new clothes :nod: and shoes. and purses, mostly. But I bought two new shirts the other day at that store i told you about. I can't wait to wear them :blob2: :blob2:

You'll never believe where I bought my outfit...Kohl's :p

It's a cute brown skirt with a nifty pattern thing...the top is a knit top -tannish, with a ribbon around the waistish area that matches the skirt...the shoes...are heels. Very cute heels - I'm stepping out of my safety zone to wear them - which means with my luck I'm going to trip all over Lily Tomlin and injure either her, myself or both of us....:eek:

i didn't break any bones, but I couldn't walk for 3 days because my legs were sore :laugh:

Oh I'm going to be dying tomorrow...I can foresee that. I can't remember the last time I wore heels, and these are higher than I've ever bought (though they're still not outrageous) - they just matched the outfit perfectly, I couldn't NOT buy them.

My feet held up amazingly well....actually...not bad for my first time wearing heels in I can't even remember how many years.

The full-body shot is coming...we didn't get a full-body shot with Lily in it though - so I'll probably stick it in the picture thread :D

And here is "the crazy shot" that's not actually so crazy. We were about to take it and Lily Tomlin said, "make a face" so I did....and she kind of did...but yeah...whatever...that's me...with her arm around me and vice versa...I'm not gonna complain about the stupid ass look on my face :p

Great job on the interview Deanna. You have the perfect news reporter voice - so clear and not fake a la Ted Baxter. Great pic also. How thrilling for you to meet her. Lily is great and I remember those Laugh In shows with Ernestine. I also loved her on West Wing.

And she did do Ernestine...briefly, but it was funny. She's 67 now and has amazing energy on the stage...the woman is amazing, I'm still in awe of her...it was such a fun night. Aside from my mom hitting on her....did I tell that story? I'll go check...

Oh yeah...I burned a copy of the entire interview as well as my finished piece. And last night Lily Tomlin said her assistant may be calling for a tape, as they usually do. So we'll see...all in all a good experience.

Oh ok. My mom. She's loud. She's obnoxious. She's a spotlight stealer.

Anyway, before the show I was looking for the house manager about the backstage thing. At that point my mom snuck off and submitted a question for the Q and A which follows the show, only it wasn't a question.

Lily Tomlin actually read it...something like, "I'm here from Las Cruces with Deanna Garcia..." blah blah blah. Lily was like, "oh! You're here with Deanna Garcia? And from Las Cruces? Wow...." then she talked about Las Cruces and invited my mom backstage as well, but then my mom screamed out "I LOVE YOU!" And Lily said, "Sorry, I already have a wife..." So my mom shouts back, "I can be your mistress" :rolleyes: Oye.

Backstage I really wish I could have spoken to Lily more - but my mom, of course, overshadowed, but Lily was very gracious and nice and hopefully didn't think we were complete freaks - I figure she's seen worse, right?

Anyway...I'm in my late 20s and still mortally embarassed by my mother, is that normal? :p

Right? Me too..I'm glad I didn't watch those before interviewing/meeting her, I would have been scared ****less...!

I did catch her being rude to Dustin Hoffman...but in context she would have probably been mean to Jesus had he been sitting there - she was just pissed.

Glad I didn't ask her any questions about I <3 Huckabees! :lol:

The part where the director bursts back into the room yelling is intense...and I was impressed with how she kept her "cool" - I would have been in tears! So the woman has balls..and can stand her ground...I like that :nod:

little FYI for ya Dee: Lily was in Chico this past week. I didnt go but I heard she was awesome :nod: apparently she did her Chico research because much of what she said was directly applicable to Chico :) She's a smart gal is Lily :nod:

Yeah...she's got her **** together - she did the exact same thing in Greeley - totally did her research...I love it!

And there's an extended version of that car YouTube scene...:eek: She can be scary.

Keep in consideration this is the same director who George Clooney argued with and eventually got into a (physical) fight with on the set of Three Kings for being abusive to the film crew and extras.

Yeah - I watched the extended car one on YouTube - many of the comments were about what a jerk that director is.

And when I talked to Lily she did mention that it's important to her on a movie to know what she's doing...to have good direction - in that scene where he loses it she seems completely frustrated because his directions aren't clear.

Either way - broad is SCARY when she gets mad...at least she didn't throw/hit things like he did - as he's shouting to act like a grownup :rolleyes:

But yeah - this guy has a reputation of acting like an ass whereas Lily Tomlin does not...:shrug:
