Someone said that it's ripping off the fans when you tour behind a greatest hits cd. Agree or disagree??????

I don't get the logic behind the "ripping off fans" notion. Unless I missed a memo, we still have free-will to choose whether or not we spend our money, and on what.

Many artists tour in support of a greatest hits cd. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Well, the last GH tour she did was for Enchanted and that your was likely the best tour she ever did given the set list alone:
Outside The Rain
Dreams
Enchanted
Gold Dust Woman
Gold and Braid
Stop Draggin' My Heart Around
After The Glitter Fades
Garbo
Rose Garden
Sleeping Angel
Stand Back
Rhiannon
(Band Intros)
Whole Lotta Trouble
Landslide
Twisted
Edge of Seventeen
I Need to Know (encore)
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You (encore)

I dont have no problem with a tour behind a "greatest hits" package.
Hell, when you think about it ALL artists 'technically speaking' tour in support of the a "greatest hits package", the hits from the past that the average (In Stevie Nicks fandom venacular the "non-chiffonhead") want but the diehards will become tired of.

Most artists do. I dont see what the problem with it would be>
Id rather an artist DID tour to promote a GH:thumbsup: ( as upposed to not),
Im excited to see and hear her again.

If you think about it, the vast majority of people who attend concerts are going for the hits. So it's kind of a strange point to debate.

I absolutely can't believe Stevie did songs like "Twisted" and "Garbo" and kept them in the setlist the entire tour. What an incredible tour that was.

I was only 8 at the time, but I can remember a hell of a lot of it. It seriously was such a fun show!

That tour was my very first stevie show I remember being in the 5th row and blown away. I really wish she would do another tour like that one. It really was magical not to knock TISL or GD but Enchanted was just special. I'd personally wish she would do more soundtrack songs live you have sleeping angel and twisted on that tour. I'd die if she ever got sheryl to tour with her and do If I Ever Did Believe, which I am perplexed at why it isn't on the greatest hits and was never done live.

of course it's legit...why wouldn't it be? I mean, what's the argument here?

the argument is that it's "ripping off the fans" because they're not supporting any new material. of course, a tour is a completely different product/experience from an album, GH or not, so i fail to see the logic.

i would never, ever say it's a ripoff if i have an opportunity to see stevie live. i don't care if she sits on the stage and reads the phone book.
seriously - anyone who thinks it's a ripoff... don't buy a damned ticket!

I don't think it's the "vast majority"... I think it's about 60-40... Majority, yes, vast, NO.
Stevie fans are diehards... she doesn't release alot of new music, and tours to support whatever... I just hope she changes up the setlist.

Some artists tour with nothing at all to support. Billy Joel has toured since 1993 with nothing at all to support. Stevie toured in 2005 with no album to support. Many older artists tour just for the sake of touring and have no album to promote.

I agree. Why should an artist to support an album? An true artist wants to play and play and play and please his/hers/their fans. So I do not see the fan-rip-off-thing.
/me just wished she ripped off her fans overhere :-)

I never realised the 1998 setlist was so brilliant! I must track down some shows... any particularly good ones anyone can recommend?

-Alyeah but those artists like billy joel are obviously touring for the cash. he's said he acts enthusiastic just to seem like he's enjoying it but is openly doing it for the tour money.

and I don't believe the stuff about the true artist want to keep performing cause its their life, not when touring without new music is openly just about money. that's true business people not true artists. I think true artists is one who want to keep writing and creating music and performing it on top of that.
I'm not saying she's not an artist in general but in the particular case of tours when the artist isn't interested in creating new work (even if they end up having to play the old hits), they're entitled to but I think it's a sign of a commited businessperson not a commited artist. I don't know if that means its not legit, I guess I probably think it not and that it's just for money.
so I guess I say no, it's not even though everyone else said it obviously is.
