Until today... and this thread, I didn't realize Warner Bros. had their own video channel on Youtube... On one had it's cool...But on the other hand they are giving **** away.... Does that make sense? Are there any other record companies with channels doing the same? I mean it's a great marketing tool no doubt... I just find it a little odd since they are part of the industry that is so against this type of sharing.

I think it's a control issue. The "official" ( :D ) Warner channel links back to their website thru the video comments, where you can order the CD and be pimped to a lot of other artists. There's also a quality issue. Plus, I've heard YouTube will soon start paying content providers, and I'm assuming Warner will get $$$ just like everyone else will.
Everyone make sure to click thru to YouTube, and rate the video (if you have an account, which are free)! Bump it up in the list...

Of course. I mean, she's not permadork. But the awareness of one's dorkability is endearing. I knew Stevie knew of her own dork factor in a long ago interview where she mentioned what she thought Chris might be thinking of her outfits and dancing on the first tour, "What is this, fairy school?"
Classic.

I didn't read that one. Chris would so say that. Chris is hella funny.
Anyway, a lot of times when Stevie is serious about stuff that she does, I find it really funny anyways. She's acts all like everything she is concerned about, or does, or thinks, is soooo important. I was going to site examples, but you know what I mean.

That is the Stevie I like most. I don't like when she is in that "legend in her own mind" mode. It's not all that dignified. She has earned the right, but it just makes her look insecure. I hope you do get to meet her, and not in an all fanned out worshipful crazy setting. She really is that funny.

I agree. Although I don't think it makes her look insecure, I'm always astonished at her confidence. Either way, I laugh.
But men say stuff like that all the time. I'm not sure I think it makes her look less dignified. I just think it makes her look self absorbed. But again, I've seen many guys say the same things, so I'm trying not to have a double standard in my head. Although I'm not sure it's so much a double standard as the belief that, as much as I love her, even Stevie isn't that important. heheheh.

I just about fell out when I watched the Stand Back video. I mean "you can't shoot that man in my video!" That's absolutely priceless. I think it's smart of WB to post these because people who might not have thought to get CV will see these and think twice. All smart companies give little promo goodies away to get people to buy their products. I can't wait to see what she says about Talk To Me. "This is a sad song, why am I smiling so much???" and "What's with that giant candy, anyway?"
At any rate, I posted this on my LiveJournal page and thought you guys might like to read what I wrote. Here's what it said:
Okay, people wonder why I adore Stevie Nicks so much, and this is it. Yes, I learned to sing by picking apart her vocals, yes I learned to write songs by dissecting her lyrics, yes she has inspired me in ways that nobody else ever will. But what a lot of people don't know is that she is also a total riot! I just about fell out when I saw this. Okay, a little background. You probably know the song Stand Back and you probably have seen the video with Stevie on the treadmill and all the dancers (leftover from Flashdance, I'm sure) but many people don't know that there was another version of this video that was scrapped. I read about it in the MTV Book of Videos back in the mid-80's and was dying that I'd never get to see it. I finally got a horrible copy of it on a bootleg VHS and after many years sat there, mouth agape, thinking "What the hell???" Oooh, it's bad. Stevie, I love ya, but ooh, good call on nixing this little gem.
So now, many years after that, Warner Bros. is releasing a special Best of CD/DVD called Crystal Visions which has all of Stevie's Videos with, and I still don't believe this, commentary! And in a stroke of genius, the WB has lovingly gifted Stevie's fans with this preview on YouTube. If I didn't know that this was a real project, I swear I would have thought this came directly from MadTV. I just about pissed myself watching this. I can't wait for this DVD.

Yup, that is what she always says. With the exception of the "running up the stairs and down the hall" verse, I have a hard time relating the lyrics to Lennon or her Uncle. I doubt she went forth with the age old desire, ahem, to please...her Uncle. Edge has always had a very sexual undertone to me...especially the howl in the middle and the "ooh, ooh, ooooooo's", (yea, I know the WWD makes that sound too), and the 'age old desire to please' line.
I do think the deaths of her Uncle and Lennon impacted her a great deal and that turmoil led to her writing a great song.
I do think the unreleased Edge video is pretty interesting. Especially the part when she tosses the baby doll on the floor and runs away.

She's right, the Mirage concert was two nights spliced together. All you have to do is watch "The Chain" and notice how at the end of it her hair goes from being pulled back, to hanging free and back again. The HBO show was one night, one concert. Most concert videos are two or three nights and the best parts of the shows put into one show.

I'm with you on the lyrics. They do have a sexual undertone to me as well. What does "he was no more than a baby then" "he seemed brokenhearted" and "I went today maybe I will do again tomorrow" have to do with her uncle's death? I've always thought this, just didn't know if anyone else agreed.

The reason I ask is that she makes it sound like she called prince without knowing him and he showed up to work on SB.ugh, the whole Prince thing is so messed up. I think she DID already know Prince before Stand Back, backed up by what she said in the commentary, but she also once mentioned a trip they took to his house, where he was speeding, and she was still in her stage clothes, coming from a FM gig. That had to have been during Mirage then.
What I think really happened with Stand Back is that she indeed had someone contact him and she was just surprised he showed up, not because she had never met him before, but that he'd want to do something for her album. She said he then walked out of her life, but obviously they had met up a few more times after that. The story about the Purple Rain premiere comes to mind, and the story about when she was sick and he was at her house.

As far as the "Uncle John/Uncle Bill" thing... I wonder if his first name was John... Jonathan William Nicks... but they called him "Bill."
I know lots of people who are referred to by their middle names, because another family member... dad, grandfather, uncle... has the same first name. Such as my friend Mike, whose first name is really Keith... but in order to avoid being confused for his dad, he goes by Mike (his middle name).
So when she has said, "his name was 'John,' too," that doesn't have to mean that that's what he WENT by.

I wonder when she said she wrote the video, if she really did? When she is talking about what's going on in the bar, she makes it sound like the guy just wants to go back to war. It's like she doesn't realize that he is a northern soldier who has rolled around in soot to make his blue uniform look gray. Then when she hugs him, she rubbes off a spot. The confederates see it's a disguise, and haul him off. She makes it sound like they just thought he was giving her grief and that's why they grab him.

I think the ASPCA is more concerned about the harming or killing of animals. Sedation is allowed if it's done by a vetrenarian. Beside's, it's pretty easy to get around that, especially on movie sets and video shoots. I worked for an equestrian olympian and its amazing what goes on in the sports world regarding drugs and horse's (and I mean performance enhancing drugs of course, not sedation), but, it is illegal, and it does go on. It's only illegal if you get caught, I guess. But these guys have it down to a fine science. It's all in the timing ;) Anyway, let's not beat a dead horse

I wonder when she said she wrote the video, if she really did?She probably "wrote" the basic idea for it... setting it in the Civil War-era South, but I'm sure that the director storyboarded it and fleshed it out.
And I always loved that Stevie's character accidentally reveals that her paramour is really a Union soldier. I had friends who used to do Civil War re-enactments, and I showed them a (really crummy quality) copy of this video many, many years ago, and they liked it. Well one reason I came up with when Stevie said she didn't know why she wrote it like it is might be that she and her management realized they were coming up with what was going to be her follow up video to "Gypsy" which seemed universally accepted as a great little epic in itself with all the extras and scenery changes. I think they all wanted her to come up with something just as grand and Stevie herself probably thought the whole "Tara" sequence would match the impact that "Gypsy" had. Unfortunately they all were wrong and as a stand by idea went with the newest big thing of that time. "Flashdance".

Uhhhh....I didn't realize that either. That little tiny piece of information actually pulls the entire story together because, before you told us that, it didn't make any sense why they took him away. Now I see where she DOES rub off some of the soot on his left shoulder blade. Now it makes sense why she's upset...because she can't see him because he's from the North. I think you should write Stevie a letter about that,.

both of the commentaries from the 2 track Promo DVD and Stevie does sure seem confused with the "Scarlett Version" of 'Stand Back'.
I never knew that she did not know the words to "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" when the video was shot - and she is right, you can clearly see her 'bad lipsync' performance. Funny she tried to flirt with Tom and he ended up looking in the other direction.

Of course she knows, but she did not want to be so specific. I have always though she hated it because it was too much of a departure from her image and it made her a$$ look large.
Hmmm...I think you nailed it! Your comment made me remember something. I recall, back in the day, reading a news blurb (probably in Rolling Stone) about the video and how she scrapped it at great cost. The writer cited the reason being that Stevie didn't like the way she looked -- overweight!
Apparently, not wanting to reveal her vanity (or call attention to her fat), she had to concoct a "I don't remember" explanation, taking a page from the political playbook.

That's the famous rumour about the Stand Back Civil War video, that she scrapped it because she looked fat, but having seen it I doubt it, since she looks quite stunning and the video is pretty cheesy, I'm not surprised they decided to go with something else.

As for cheesy - it was the early 80's and it would have fit right in

Glenn Parish has insisted that the rumours regarding Stevie dumping the "Stand Back" video because she "looked fat," were completely false.
His statements back in the mid-'80s match Stevie's in the commentary -- that they decided it just wasn't the right way to go, so they scrapped it and did another video more suited to the style of the song.

artists record 2 shows on consectative nights just in case there may be unforeseen problems on the first night of filming, If so they can film the next and edit 'em together (ala Metallica's Seattle show in the "Live ****: Binge & Purge" boxed set)

Okay, but the odd thing is...was the second Edge video ever released? I never saw it aired at all. I assumed it never left the can. Yeah, it's a dancey kind of song, but Stevie really can't dance. From what I recall the video was very cheesy...encompassing all the worst production techniques of the time. The only redeeming shots are of her on the beach. And I can't stand the editing on most of her other videos. I'm not a fan of those stupid one-second quick shots for a set-up that likely took hours.
IMO the Civil War version is actually one of her best, fully concieved videos. So what if it doesn't actually correspond with the lyrics? Some of the best videos are all imagery that may have no direct relation to the lyrics. And some of the worst videos attempt to provide a visual storyline to the lyrics (reference any country music video!).
At the very least, some of the footage (Stevie riding the horse, running, hurried and frantic) matches up to the energy of the song. I'm really glad that she's finally releasing it!

"Edge of Seventeen" was never released, but there really aren't two different videos for it -- just two different edits. Both edits have the "performance" scenes, but the 1st edit also has "storyline" scenes with Stevie & Christopher.
Funny thing is, the same director... Brian Grant... also directed the 'Scarlett Version' of "Stand Back," which, of course, was also not released.

Yeah, some people bought it, there is a thread about it somewhere...likely in the Stevie section...I want a cheap replica postcard, too, so I might do that.
