Congrats! :woohoo:

Yeah, I have problems. I hope I die when I'm about 45. So, clearly, I really don't have any helpful advice for your sis. Except, save for plastic surgery, keep fit, distract yourself with fun effluvia, and travel as much as possible. I'm not sure that is good advice, it's just what I want to do.

40 was awful. I hit it last November and am now just accepting it. I still cringe when I say it.

Maybe it's different for a guy, I don't know but actually being 40 something is great ..it gives you licence to be even more critical about life and get away with speaking about it!! Its what I percieve wisdom to be, I guess. Nobody listens to you at 20, but they do when you hit that magic number and it's like finally getting the ability to laugh at yourself and to do it without being too harsh, coz you are who you are...whoever said turning 40 is the beginning of life is right, so all the best to you and your sister..have fun being 40 :D

Really? I would think that the uglier I got, the less people would listen to me. Also, which part of your life is it the rest of? The wrinkly part with no sex? The part where you really start in with the aches and pains and are much less mobile? The part with much more serious health scares?

Aaahhh...your'e looking at the dark side of it Amber..no, I mean it's when you finally get to realise what your'e about, who you really are (guess I'm looking at it from the spiritual side of it , if you like). yes, there is all that wrinkly/aches and pains bit too (no sex?, what? nah, it's much more fun) I guess it's all how you look at it. 40 is just a number and I don't expect your'e anywhere near it yet, you gotta get there first to see what I'm talking about!

Okay. I guess what I "really am" is someone who doesn't want to get wrinkly and achy and pain-y. I guess my spiritual side mostly involves playing outside vigorously and athletically while looking hot.

Meh...get over, you both got ages yet and when you get there, you'll think what the heck was all the fuss about. It's the 10 years after that you gotta worry about!!!

happy early birthday to your sister and your self.

I'll be 37 in exactly 2 months (Today wouldve/shouldve/couldve been my Mom's 63rd birthday - but she died, oddly, on March 21st 2005.)

I'm the youngest of Mom's 5 kids - and the ONLY one still in their 30's

Happy Birthday to you and your twin! :woohoo: I still have a year and a half left. :o I wouldn't say I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not totally dreading it. I still look hot. ;)

Turning 40 was not a big deal to me. I felt like I looked really good, I was in a happy relationship and it was just an overall very good time for me.
My partner at the time and two of our friends all went to Las Vegas for a long weekend. Celebrated my actual birthday at Alize, which is a beautiful French restaurant on the 56th floor of the Palms hotel. It was amazing.

I had a hard time turning 42 this past November. I just hate to see it in print. But again, I don't actually FEEL old, I certainly dont act it and I am told that I still can pass for 32 -- so that makes me feel a bit better about it.
At the end of the day, it's a mind set, really.

Happy birthday to you and your twin! Do something fun and special!!!

I had a bit of a hard time turning 30, but now 4 years later, I love my thirties!! I read a few "turning 30" books. Surely there has to be some "turning 40" books out there? If you find them, let me know, I am going to need them in 6 years!

I have a complete meltdown when I turned 30... Made up for at 31!
My hair was greying when I was 20 (runs in my family), so I have always been pegged as looking older than I really am (I don't care what color it turns as long as it doesn't fall out!)

Now that I am going to be 37 next month, I am looking forward to 40. I had 2 of my best friends turn 40 this year... huge parties, catered, great booze etc... That would be fun... I was also thinking about Vegas, or someplace tropical with just me and my wife... who knows...

Happy B-day to you and your sister....

sure yer not related to me? I was greying at 20 also, but I would rather be grey than bald (Which wont happen to me, barring illness of course).

Dont think I would look good as a 'chrome dome'

40 was no big whoop, really. I still find it odd to say. But, like Bruce, people tell me I look ten years younger and that helps. The idea of 50 freaks me out a bit. 30 even gave me the willies, but 40 wasn't a big deal. If my life sucked, I guess my attitude might be different. I guess that my relative feeling about my age is connected to where I am at with time related goals and all that stuff. On that count, no worrries. Staying fit is a big help, I think.

I agree - no big whoop!!!!
That was seven years ago and nothing really changed between then and now.I think the biggest pain is your eyesight changing........
Taking care of your skin and body definitely helps. No aches or pains yet - I'm in the gym every other day!
I wouldn't want to go back - I thrive on all of my experience!
Have a great birthday!!!!

I don't care about age - yet. I honestly don't think I will ever care, though. My sister-in-law acted like her life was over when she turned 30. She's going to be 39 this year, so I don't know how much longer we'll have her with us - she may decide to off herself before the big 4-0.

I can't wait to turn 40. I have some issues with growing older, but I generally feel that life gets better with age and that getting older is a gift. I prefer to look at the lines around my eyes and the few extra pounds as souvenirs from living and surviving.

Okay, that sounds really dumb, but I do believe that!

I was so excited to turn 30 and then my life went to hell shortly after, so I believe that the 40's will be my decade.....
