ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (AP) -- At least two people can claim a share of a record $370 million lottery jackpot, and there could be more -- California was still checking its Mega Millions results, officials announced Wednesday.
One winning ticket was traced to a liquor store in Woodbine, New Jersey, and another to a market in Dalton, Georgia, lottery representatives in the two states said Wednesday.
California's results were slowed by the high volume of sales, and state lottery spokesman Rob McAndrews said it would be at least midmorning before he knows for sure if there are more winning tickets out there. The other nine states struck out, said Mardele Cohen of the Ohio Lottery, which compiles all the states' information.
The winning numbers: 16-22-29-39-42, with the Mega Ball 20.
The odds of hitting it: about 1 in 176 million.
Georgia Lottery Corp. spokesman J.B. Landroche said one winning ticket was sold at Favorite Market in Dalton. New Jersey Lottery officials said another was sold at Campark Liquors in Woodbine, in Cape May County at the state's southern tip.
"It's the most wonderful thing," said Campark Liquors manager Fern Gandy. "We have so many wonderful customers here. I'm just glad it was one of them."
Tuesday night's drawing was held in New York's Times Square in ABC's television studio rather than Atlanta after brisk sales pushed what had been an estimated $355 million jackpot estimate to a record $370 million.
Even though the temperature was just 16 degrees, a handful of hopefuls showed up in Times Square to watch the drawing.
Millions of others had lined up at lottery agents in the 12 states to buy tickets Tuesday. New Yorkers bought more than 1 million tickets an hour, said Robert McLaughlin, the state's lottery director. Virginia retailers sold about 8,550 tickets per minute.
'Go to the moon'
New York construction worker Andelko Kalinic had an idea of what he would do if his Mega Millions ticket paid off.
"Go to the moon," he said. "Why not?"
Some lottery hopefuls in Ohio never had a chance. Ohio's lottery ticket system went down statewide at about 10:20 p.m., 25 minutes before the deadline, Cohen said. The cause hadn't yet been determined.
"For those people who wanted to make a wager and didn't get a chance, we're very, very sorry," she said.
The largest previous multistate lottery jackpot was $365 million in 2006, when eight workers at a Nebraska meat processing plant hit the Powerball lotto. The Big Game lotto, the forerunner of Mega Millions, paid out a $363 million jackpot in 2000.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington state.

Wow. I wouldn't even know what to do with that amount of money.
Okay, I lied. I do know. Think I can buy Lindsey for 370 million?

Georgia trucker has big lottery haul
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Sometimes it pays to run a little late.
Truck driver Ed Nabors was a little behind on his way to work Tuesday morning, so he didn't stop for coffee at his usual place.
At lunchtime he bought a cup at nearby Favorite Market convenience store and chose to spend $10 on lottery tickets.
Good decision.
Nabors, 52, of Rocky Face, Georgia, discovered Wednesday morning that he had won half the record-setting $390 million Mega Millions jackpot in Tuesday night's drawing.
"I'm still numb," he said at a news conference in Atlanta.
Nabors was handed a giant replica check for $116,557,083. He will net about $80 million after taxes, Georgia Lottery Corp. spokeswoman Tandi Reddick said.
He will receive the actual payment in about 10 days. Asked how much longer he will be a truck driver, Nabors quipped, "About 10 more days."
Nabors choked up briefly while telling reporters how he plans to use some of the money.
"My daughter has wanted a house and to get out of a mobile home for a long time," he said, "and I think she just got it."
He added that he probably would buy some lakefront property for himself.
The winning numbers were 16-22-29-39-42, plus the Mega Ball, 20.
Nabors let the store's Mega Millions terminal choose his numbers for him; the winning combination was the sixth set out of 10, he said.
Mega Millions is a multistate lottery played in California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
The other winning ticket was sold at Campark Liquors in Woodbine, New Jersey, said New Jersey Lottery Commission spokesman Dominick DeMarco.
The holder of that ticket has not yet stepped forward.

Wasn't there some HBO documentary about lottery winners? Seems like I heard about it and how almost all of them end up broke again. I am sure some TV hound here has seen it.

I've seen a couple different shows like that. One of them the couple wasn't completely broke, but they definitely blew through a ton of money before they wised up.
Many people who don't learn about what to do with money growing up, or sometime, still are the same when they get money, same habits/attitudes/lack of knowlege.
I saw the thing where they gave the homeless guy $25000 to see what would happen. They were examining whether "throwing money" at the homeless problem helps. Anyway, the guy blew it all - but he gave a lot of it away. I mean, he was used to being homeless, and I guess also had a generous spirit so didn't try to hang onto the money much.

If I ever win a lottery, I will blow it all in weeks on the people & charities I care about...Only thing I will splurge myself on is purchasing my own music store
Oh, And purchasing MRMC (Which is for sale) so I can immediately close it ("Sorry employees...You screwed with my family, now payback has arrived!!!!") and turn it into a parking lot
Btw, my dumbass drunkard oldest brother won a $25,000 2004 Harley Davidson once by playing the lottery - Of course he was too drunk to realize he had won til his wife figured it out...So who knows, right

Well...part of it was that he got taken by a girl. Some chick married him, and he bought her a car and blah blah, then when his money was gone, she left him. So, I'm not sure he was quite where he wanted to be, he spent a lot on her. He was pretty bummed. He thought she loved him and all. I guess he's too nice and gullible.

well...he wasn't that much of an idiot, actually. Kind of mid level PWT. I've seen a lot dumber people. Like I was trying to explain, when you were watching the show you could tell he was really kind hearted and nice, maybe a little too much. He was neither especially dumb or especially degenerate. I think it kind of says something that chose what he thought was love over his money, in a way. We're all kind of dumb sometimes when it comes to love. So I've heard. lol.

I suspect seeing him interviewed is different. Nonetheless, doesn't sound like it was love, and he couldn't tell. I'm sure he loved sunsets and puppies and stuff like that. But, I'm sticking with the conclusion of idiot.

people in my family, specifically my uncle and oldest brother, especially in my uncle's case. Once he was sentenced to federal prison (He was/is a drug dealer) and lost his fortune his wife left him in a heartbeat for another man who had even more $$$$$.
And yes, most of my family suffer from niceness and gullibility - I dont, I am an asshole supreme!!!

There's a Texas Lotto billboard with the jackpot amount that I drive past on my way to work everyday (it was up to 360 million or something the other day), and I've been thinking what I would do with that kind of money. I really don't know. I damn sure wouldn't give a dime of it to anybody else, and I'm not interested in cars or **** like that; I'd pay off the one I've got, and then I think maybe I'd buy a couple of modest houses (nothing too big) in different parts of the country (one for winter and one for summer). But that wouldn't really eat up that much money. A couple of million at the most. And I'd never work again, so maybe just living would eat that much up. But $360 million?

Really? I would totally give a bunch to my friends, and also pay their salaries so they could go on fabulous vacations with me. Like, "Take June off, here's $15,000, and lets go to a private island resort in the Caribbean!!!". That is what I would look forward to the most, travel with friends. I'd go by myself, too. I mean, you could do anything you want. Parasail off hills in peru, bike through spain, stay in a tree house and go for helicopter ride in Hawaii...learn to surf in Australia, paddle in the most beautiful places in Thailand....I just can't believe that with so many fun things to do in the world that you wouldn't know what to do with all the money.
It's hard to believe also that there is no cause or charity that you would want to contribute to.
I'd almost surely buy an island, and I would want to buy as much rainforest acreage as possible. I'd also like to throw my money around politically.
But best of all would be the fact that if you invested the bulk, you could be one of those families that is rich for generations and generations, and your money makes so much money that people don't really have to work.

I was thinking mainly of my relatives when I said I wouldn't give anyone a dime. I'm sure there are some worthwhile charities, but I'd have to really do some research first. And I don't plan on ever impregnating a woman, so being some sort of wealthy family patriarch isn't in the cards, I don't think.
I used to want to travel. When I was in high school, I wanted to backpack through Europe...I should've done it...I'm probably too old now. I think now I just want to kick back and paint or make pottery or weave rugs or grow vegetables or something.

No, you aren't too old to travel now, you just need money so you can travel in ease and luxury. Imagine weaving rugs in Bali.... "Backpacking" broke ass through anywhere is probably overrated. I dont' mind the backpacking, but staying in hostels? No, you have to rent a beachfront private property for two months and make pottery there. Hire some local hotties to, uh, clean up for you?
Omigod, imagine the food you could eat anytime you wanted if you won lotto. And I would have a deep tissue massage every day. After my workout with my personal trainer.
I thought of something else, I would totally buy TV airtime to show all the Stevie I wanted. Or at least a half hours worth.
Okay, I should stop. I'm working myself into a state.

right now my list would include paying off credit cards, paying off school, remodeling my parents house, buying a new car, paying off school loans, immediately flying myself and my friends off to europe for some travel.
well i can't imagine why  woodbine is close to the shore -- that's about an hour away from me (when i'm at my parents) -- south west on kind of a diagonal.

Well, der, everyone would do that stuff. I meant besides after everyone (you) does that. I mean, I don't think that will take the whole 80 mil or whatever. If it does, I'd like to know how you got such high limits on your credit cards. hehehe.
That Europe thing, hell yeah. Can you imagine going anywhere you want forever and never having a budget? My god. I mean, My god.

I haven't read this thoroughly, but seems in lasts posts we are typing of what we would do if we were a winner. I would do a lot of things for my family and those I do not know but could assist in many ways...but for me, I would want facilities to house/care for unclaimed/unadoptable animals...I would try to find good placement for them but they would never be putdown if that did not happen.
