View Full Version : My cat Vinnie just died
amber

Here he is. He was so cute and silly. The house will be so quiet now without his near constant loud miaowing. I will hate it. I can't imagine waking up tomorrow without it. He miaowed so much we could always have a conversation...
I didn't get to have the euthenasia where I stay with him, because I didn't have any money (I get paid tomorrow). Also, I couldn't leave him there for services for the same reason, I had to take him with me. So I walked home in the rain with him at 2:30 am, crying and crying, it took about an hour. I was using my cat ear umbrella. :o
Vinnister = Sinister + Vinnie. He was my little fat boy. He was my cute little loudmouth. He was my sweet little man. He was my Vinnister. I wish he wasn't in so much pain before he passed, I guess I should be glad it was only about 30 minutes. He had heart failure which threw a clot and paralyzed his back legs. The yowling of pain broke my heart.
I have a vet appt. for Friday for my other cat Spanky, but I think I'll try to get him in tomorrow.
I don't know what to do, the individual cremation is so expensive, but the cheaper group cremation you don't get the ashes back, and it isn't that cheap either. I really want him "with" me for some reason. I don't want his ashes scattered with a bunch of other animals in some random place. I know that is totally irrational, but he's my little man, I want him here, at his house.
I kind of want to bury him under the tree in my yard that he always climbed on, it was his only athletic skill, haha - but I don't know...do I just put him in a box and dig really deep? How deep?
Gosh, I can't believe it. He was so hungry and loud and sweet and round and pretty, I thought he'd always be here begging for a snack, so loud you could hear him way down the block. Even though he just ate. Yup, he was my cat all right...

Thank you very much. I had to talk about him, I can't stop crying. He was so goofy.
For those of you who listened, his vocal is featured prominently at the beginning of my recent rendition of "That's Alright" :xoxo:  He's so great. Just wanted to share a little bit about how he was, cause he was distinctive in some great funny ways.

amber
02-22-2007, 07:58 AM
^^^^ Thanks, Strand. Edit: His problem is in the first post, Vanessa. He had congenital heart failure, threw a clot which paralyzed his legs and was very painful. This happened suddenly tonight a few minutes after I had fallen asleep. I took him to the vet, and they said it was best to put him down, he wasn't going to get better, and he was in lots of pain. Poor thing.
I am so sorry to hear that.
RIP Vinnie:angel:
Thank you. :xoxo: I decided when I was walking home that instead of resting in peace, I want him to rest in snacky miaow. It's what he would have wanted.
I know many here have lost a pet, and it is always horrible, but it is nice to be able to talk about him a bit on here, because I'll never see him again.
ah:( Sorry to hear, Amber.

I know once my vet worked with me when my Buster needed treatment and I had no money.I gave him my camera and some jewlery to hold until the bill was paid..Just a suggestion and perhaps your vet will have heart and work with you on this .if it is important to have Vinnies remains with you.Just remember that no matter what.Vinnie and his love will be with you always.,.for the Love never dies..and if you need to talk about anything ..you can pm me and or go to

If you decide to bury him, you don't have to dig incredibly deep, just a foot or two, then put something heavy over the top for a while in case of foxes etc. I mean, I don't know if you have many foxes round there, but anyway.. Take care :xoxo:

My heart goes out to you. I know how hard it is to lose a pet, especially when it's so sudden and unexpected.
And don't feel like you're being irrational for wanting him "with you." A lot of people do. I had my old cat, Timmy, cremated and his ashes are in a cedar box on my dresser, surrounded by framed photos of him. Most of my rats that have passed have also been cremated and are arranged on a shelf with photos of them. Everybody copes with loss in their own way, so don't think that there's anything wrong with any of the feelings you're experiencing now.
Poor Vinnie, and what a cutie he was. :distress:

He had heart failure which threw a clot and paralyzed his back legs. The yowling of pain broke my heart.
I just reread, and caught this part. I wonder if he had a heart murmur? In the pet thread last week, I posted how my old cat's been diagnosed with a heart murmur, and the vet said that murmurs in cats, tend to release clots which paralyze their back legs. I'm going to start her on heart meds, next week.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Losing a pet is so hard, because they really are like family. There's a bond that we share with our pets that can't really be described, but it sure is special. It hurts a lot. I still miss my kitty, Pearl, who has been gone almost three years now.
You're in my thoughts. He sure was a cutie. RIP

Aw, honey. I'm so sorry. Nothing I can write will make it better, so I won't try. :(
Do you remember him? He was funny, huh?
Thank you, everyone, I need all the hugs. It's been a hard day, it is so quiet here. I came home with a burger, and there was no one going "MYOWMYOWMYOWMYOWPURRPURRPURRMYOW!!!" And sitting two inches from me waiting for snacks.
Just one silent black cat sitting calmly and politely beside me while i ate. I came back from the store, and it had been raining - usually Vinnie would be frantically myowing from the front of the drive way all the way up the stairs, doubling back to make sure I was coming, all upset about the rain.
He was like, my life of the party cat, I guess. The other two are so quiet and calm. :o
I can't write much now, but I wanted to thank everyone preliminarily.
The vet down the street only charges $145 for the private cremation, which is much less than the others, so I got that. He still looked so cute and furry, like he was just sleeping in his carrier. But now he's really gone.

I'm really sorry to hear about your kitty, Amber. It brings back memories of having my Luna put to sleep a couple years ago... it's one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life. I'm glad you were able to get the private cremation... I think it helped me a bit... it's nice knowing that they are still near you. Amber, I'm sorry to hear about Vinnie. I love my pet kitties and that would just break my heart if that happened.
Is something wrong with Spanky too? I hope he's doing ok.
Thank you so much. Spanky is at the vet tonight, she thinks he has a blade of grass caught in his pallette? He's also breathing badly, though, but we have to address that later. He also has a slight heart murmur? It will be $200 - $300 just to get the blade of grass out of his throat! (if that is what it is. There are a few other possibilities). But as of now, he is fine. Thank you so much for asking, I was very worried about him. I'm going to get more tests done in a few weeks when I get my other financial aid check.

Thank you for coming out of lurkage to offer me your kind words, it means a lot. I'd love to get another cat, but I have two others already (one I rescued a couple years ago). It is very tempting, I love my other cats, but they are very quiet. I want to get another Siamese motormouth to fill up the house. lol. Thank you as well for the links. I love all cats, too.
I'm sorry about your loss. My two pscyho kitties are pains in my ass but I know I'll miss them both and dread the day I'll have to put either one down.
Hahaha, that's exactly how I would have described Vinnie. Awhile back, I was so irritated at him, but more recently I let his bad qualities go (he was a "pee in the house on occasion" cat, yuck), and enjoyed him for the wacko he was, got a mini carpet steamer, and moved on. And I'm so thankful for that.
Thank you so much.
amber. take care. it must be difficult to lose something close to you. rip vinnie.
Thanks, Curtie, I appreciate that. I've changed it to RISN instead of RIP. (Rest In Snacky Miaow). You know, Vinnie even liked donuts...hehehe. (not that I fed him donuts).
Oh Amber I am so sorry about you Vinnie. I will light a candle for his little soul and say a prayer for him.
That is so lovely, thank you so much. His preferred prayer is: "Oh, great god of Salmon and burgers and chicken and cheese and crab and..." lol.

Yeah, I wouldn't read it either. Thank you so much Livia. I remember when you lost Cagie. Although, I have to be honest, if my cat is talking to yours, it's about where to score the next Big Snack...
Amber! Honey, I'm so sorry.
Thank you. Do you have cats in Canada?
Amber, I'm so sorry for your loss. May Vinnie rest in peace.
Did you check to see how much cremation would be? My dog's was only $65.
Thank you. I couldn't help but think of you and Cash. I'm so happy you had that extra time with him. Vinnie went so fast, I didn't get any extra warning time to visit with him, which makes me sad. Um, as per usual, everything is way more expensive here, I found one for $145.
RIP
Thank you, and thank you for saying he was a cutie, it's my favorite thing. I'm sorry about Pearl. It's true what you said. It's also weird, every cat is different. I mean, people without pets don't know, they think a cat is a cat, or a dog is a dog. But all of mine are totally different personalities, and Vinnie's left a big hole. You wish you could get another like it, but you can't.
Aww, Amber... I'm so sorry to hear about Vinnie. He was such a beautiful kitty.
BIG hugs to you, sweetie.
Thanks for the big hugs. You know, Vincenzo was my most Italian kitty... I loved calling him "Vincenzo", it made him sound so dignified, which he wasn't at all. He was more like your big goofy fat funny Italian uncle...Mine is named Paul Anthony, specifically. His son is named Anthony Paul. My other cousin is named Carl Anthony Paul... Just wanted to share an "Italian moment" with you...do you have a relative named Rocko (Rocky) too?
Oh Amber, I am so sorry to hear about Vinnie. I wish his passing could've been a little softer, that couldn't have been easy for either of you. I hope you're doing alright and if not, I'm hoping you will be alright very soon. Vinnie was lucky to have such a great mama.
Thank you so much. I wish it had been softer, too. I really regret that I didn't have money so that I could sit with him while they gave him the injection, so he wouldn't be scared and stuff. Otherwise, I'm doing okay.
Amber, I'm so sorry. I know you loved him very much. That lil' loudmouth used to be in your signatures!
Hang in there. I'll give extra attention to my cousin's Vinnie kitty next time I see him, just for you.
Hahaha, that's right, I forgot about your cousin's Vinnie. lol. Thank you for your kind words.
Sorry to hear this. Very sorry, Homegirl.
Big Sparkhug.
Thank you, Sparkles, I love big hugs. And again, Vinnie would have never been able to catch your bird...lol. Isn't the house quiet without them, though? Sucks.
Amber.....I'm sorry about to hear about Vinnie. :( He was a pretty baby. Good thoughts are being sent your way.
RIP Vinnie.
Thank you, that is so sweet, because I know you don't even like cats.
Aww, sorry to hear.
Thank you.
Luna is in a cedar box on my windowsill... in the sun... she'd like it there.
Hey, Ken! RIP Luna. Thank you, I'm glad I got the private cremation, too. So, Luna liked the sun on the windowsill, does that mean I should put Vinnie in some ground hamburger??? hehehehehe. Hamburger Heaven.
Amber ~ I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My animals are like family to me ~ I know you feel the same. Take time to grieve and always remember how happy he made you.
Thank you, yes it is true. I don't even like kids, so the cats really are like family. Vinnie was the bratty youngest "child", lol.

 Well, see, I do kind of like them now and I had one picked out, was going to name it Nicksie ( ), but my roomie wanted it declawed, and I didn't want to. I still think of getting one anyway.

I'm doing better, thank you so much. Isn't it funny, when they're with you and they talk so much and so loud you get kind of annoyed a lot, even though you still like it and think it is funny. Now I miss that sound. I don't know if your cat miaows as much, enough to be annoying. I mean, Vinnie miaowed all the time, really loud...
Oh yeah, he's talking all the time. So much in fact that he now knows how to "shut up". Seriously, everyday when I get home from work there is telling me everything. Very loudly. Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're doing better. :)

I'm sorry about Vinnie! I know how hard it must be for you! I had to put my cat Watson down back in September. She had kidney failure. I was there with her when they put her down, and it was the second worst thing I've ever had to do. My heart goes out to you. Hopefully all of the pets us ledgies have lost recently are waiting for us somewhere.
Here is a pic. I took of Watson in '05. She's enjoying the kitty hammock I got her that Christmas.

I am so sorry for your loss, Amber. I am glad you found a place to get the private cremation at an affordable rate. I adore my cat...he is rolling on the keyboard as I try to type this....so I understand what you are going through. I am glad he is not suffering anymore..poor thing.

Thanks, Jazzy. Yeah, there's just one big tree in my "yard", so I'm sure it is that one. Did you meet Vinnie? You must have. It's kind of stupid, but I keep wanting to talk to people who met him, and have them say "oh, he was great!"
You know, I think he actually sang louder than you...:p :xoxo:
I do remember him. and he was as fabulous as we are. he fit right in. I wanted to scoop him up.
and as for his singing, honey, who do you think did all the oohs and aahs during our recording session. he's a legend.

Awwww, what a doll! She loves it. :woohoo:
I was actually just thinking of getting this kitty hammock I saw in a catalogue. Spanky doesn't like to be on the floor where the other cat can walk by him:mad: ...
Watson was young, too, I'm sorry you had to put her down. Vinnie was only 7.
Wouldn't that be great if they were waiting for us, all the pets? Talk about heaven!

Ah HA!!! A convert! :blob2: I think Nicksie is a cute name. I'm glad you didn't get one, though, I think it is kind of cruel to declaw cats. I know people have their reasons, I just don't prefer it. Your roomate must have some expensive furniture... My cats never really scratched anything up to where you would notice. But they always went outside, so.

 Bad Kitty! No keyboard! hahahaha. How convenient, he's helping you type. :p
Thank you so much. :xoxo:

Well, Watson would have been 11 this January! She was just a petite little thing and that made her look like a kitten. At first she wouldn't go in the hammock, but then she loved it, untill... she was rolling on her back on it and it fell right off the window! She wasn't hurt, but it scared the cat poo out of her! It took her a while to go back in it. I would pick her up and put her in, and she would give me a look like, "Yeah, I don't think so" and jump right down. :) I think Spanky would love one.

Oh, I was under the impression she was a kitten in the pic you showed. No, 10 is a nice old age for a cat.
hehehehe. The hammock I want to get Spanky sits on the ground, should be pretty safe.

No problem, thank you so much. :xoxo:
I just dropped a wad on my other cat at the vet, and he stayed the night, but I have him back now with some medicine. He has appts. for bloodwork and Xrays late next month. It is making me feel better to take care of him.
