Is there a difference between Codene and Hydrocodene. I was perscribed one after getting a tooth pulled and my friend was given the other for back pain. Are they interchangeable.

Not sure if you'd find what you're looking for there. I think HC is a mix of cod and vicoden...but I am not totally sure.
:sorry: key it up at google?

Hydrocodone is the generic term for Vicodin. I don't think there's any problem mixing them, if that's what you're asking for? Vicodin's going to work better than the codeine for most things, but some people are sensitive to it and it makes them puke.

Do not mix these two drugs!!. They are both opiates, but hydrocodone is synthetic and more potent. There is not a 1:1 relationship on a mg by mg basis, so they are not interchangeable. You also have to consider that most preparations containing hydrocodone or codeine also contain acetaminophen (Tylenol), which can cause liver failure if taken at an exceedingly high dose.
Indeed, codeine is something you would prescribe for milder, more localized pain. It is not as addictive or as likely to produce euphoria. Hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (Percocet, Oxycontin) and Fentanyl, dilaudid, etc. are for moderate to severe pain.

Back in the day, my co-worker and I had nicknames for each other- I was "Victor," she was "Victoria," as in "Vicodin." We always plotted out our planned "V-days" on the calendar. One for you, one for me, etc. We always timed ourselves to see who would "take flight" first.
Lawd, child... those were the good old days...

"take flight" They don't do anything for me.
Codeine (Tylenol with Codeine is often called Tylenol 3) and hydrocodone (Vicodin) are both opioid analgesics (pain relievers) but... codeine is more used in cough syrup to combat the minor chest irritation that goes along with persistent coughing, where as Vicodin is used more as a narcotic analgesic for more serious pain... Codeine is definitely not as strong as Vicodin. however, since both are central nervous system depressants and have sedative effects they should not be taken together... this is probably what killed Anna Nicole... she took methadone and God knows what other CNS depressants and stopped breathing... that would be my guess.
