View Full Version : Do you believe?

DrummerDeanna

After weeks of X-Files marathons, UFO Documentaries on the History Channel and finally the viewing of Signs (I'd never seen it). I've really become interested anew in U.F.O.s

As a kid I was obsessed, checked out all books available on U.F.O.s etc.

I have always believed they're out there. But then I start thinking, if they've been around since before recorded history why do we STILL have no hard evidence? Nothing concrete that proves they exsist....

"I want to believe"

So...thoughts? Do you believe in UFOs?

Discuss....

What makes you think that the entire species called "Homo Sapien" ISN'T of extraterrestrial origin?

You know, that's something I've actually been thinking a lot about lately...so I don't think that is out of the realm of possibility...but there is still no concrete proof

Oh and I forgot another question....Have any of you ever SEEN a UFO?

So...thoughts? Do you believe in UFOs?

from a hotbed for UFO's, Burns Flats, OK.

At night if you head west of Cordell, OK on a clear night you can see strange lights in the sky very clearly. They appear especially bright during the summer nights. They are not weather ballons or city lights refracting from the heat of the ground into the sky.

The former US Air Force base at Burns Flats refuse to say what those objects in the sky are.

Kinda funny that Burns Flats has already been designated as a future space port by NASA, and may very soon be a launch site for newer technologies of space travel that will replace the space shuttle fleet.

Still, Noone knows what is in the skies at night

I saw two of them once over a field. They would appear in different locations in the sky very quickly and then finally disappeared after like, 5 minutes. They deff were not airplanes, as they had a weird white/yellow fuzzy glow around them and they were totally round. It was kind of fun actually. :p

INteresting..and it brings up a whole other question...what the hell the government and/or military are doing that we know absolutely nothing about!

Oooh that is fun. I say that, but if I saw one I'm sure I'd wet myself. I thought I saw one once...I came outside and saw three lights circling one another in the sky...as I was having a heart attack I realized that a) I was drunk and b) they were actually search lights

I don't know if I believe in UFOs, but I do believe that the universe is much bigger than we can probably fathom at this moment (and maybe ours isn't even the only universe), and that there is certainly some form of life in other universes/parts of our own universe.

As for why we have no hard evidence - if we don't have the capability of traveling to these other worlds yet, what makes us think anyone else does? They could all be back in the stone age, or they may very well know all about us, but think we're too crazy to mess with.

the government wont tell us anything, Hell even Slick Willy Clinton signed a statement saying Area 51 "does not exist".

My brother-in-law works on the F22 as a 'defense weapons expert', so he is 'hush-hush' (When I talk to my sister occassionally the govt. records/listens in on our conversations) on any and all pertaining to that technology.

As for me, Here's my proof UFO's/Aliens exist:

<div align=center><img src="http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000002BWU.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg" width =400 height=400></div>

Hey, if Steve Vai can have an alien on his album artwork and have the same alien (Along with his UFO flying alien friends) sing backup on his song "Little Green Men" who am I to question if they exist or not?

Oh I definitely think the universe is so much bigger than we fathom. I've always thought it quite arrogant of humans to be so certain that there was no other life out there...how would they know!?!

And I take some UFOs to be craft from other worlds...but with that, then maybe they're so stealthy they don't leave evidence? I don't know...but I do believe there is life out there...

"and now they've gone back up to space, where they won't have to hassle with the human race" :p

After 12 years of watching X-Files I've still not become 'a believer'. That is, if you're strictly asking about aliens and UFO's visiting this earth. There might be other life forces out there, I just don't believe they've ever tried to visit our planet. I can't for the life of me think of a reason why (and don't start with this colonization stuff! ) and I'd like to believe that if they can find us, we should be able to find them also...and we haven't.

Right...I think they're all part of the "paranormal"

And I don't think that if they can find us we can find them, especially if they're superior to us in intelligence...

Also - if they created the human race, they'd have a reason to come and visit - and look :p

I never did a sceance or ouija board type thing, I wasn't allowed as a kid - was told they're "satanic". But I had a couple of ghostly experiences that left me believing in the spirit world.

heh, well, no one really knew I was holding one. It was at my grandma's with some neighbourhood kids, and one of the girls suggested it. We went up and did it in the attic... While we were up there the lights went off. We were all miles away from the switch, and everyone else in the house was downstairs. Aside from that, I've had a few experiences, too. I used to see auras around people all the time, and had premonitions. Doesn't happen too much anymore.

They're all part of the paranormal, yeah? Anything other-worldly has always fascinated me.I guess they are, if only because both have not been scientifically proven. I just put them in another category I guess. I do believe in ghosts in a way, I would never discount any paranormal occurance, I believe there is something to be said about a lot of things. And as I said, I can concur with there being other beings in the universe, I just think that all these supposed UFO sightings and abduction stories are all a bunch of boohocky. Also - if they created the human race, they'd have a reason to come and visit - and look :p Didn't God create the human race? Or wait, God was actually extraterrestrial right? Well there's no concret proof of God either

And actually, I saw a show on the History Channel this weekend that had themes scarily close to that X-Files episode  But anyway, it was a show about how some of the things in the Bible are actually encounters with extra terrestials. Sounds completely kooky, right?

But the interesting point is there's as much proof for that as there is for God Himself. It was just an intersting point of view that got me thinking, though I'm a believer first and foremost in God.

Never dabble into that. Scary stuff.

My sister did Ouija with one of my cousins, her story was scary, so that alone made me never want to try it - now I just am not really interested in contacting the dead, so I don't see myself ever dabbling in it.

danax6
02-20-2007, 09:14 PM
Who's to say they're not?Exactly my point. Nobody knows, so whenever someone says they can visit because they have a higher intelligence it's all speculation. And why would they need a higher intelligence to visit? To build better spacecrafts that can travel billions of light years? Is the universe really bigger than the planets we know of? So many questions... :p

Well there's no concret proof of God either

Exactly....I was watching that show at the gym, there was a guy on a treadmill getting visibly annoyed at the statements that the things in the Bible happened exactly as he thinks they did.

That got me thinking, well why is THIS theory and different than yours? Why is believe in extra terrestials any odder than believing in God? So that's what I've been thinking about for a few days...hence the thread.

But I had a couple of ghostly experiences that left me believing in the spirit world.

Not sure what I think about that. Buddhism teaches that there are spiritual realms (heavens, hells, ghostly realms, etc), but it's something I take kind of an agnostic view on. Kind of. I personally have never had any experiences with that sort of thing, but that's not to say I would necessarily find other people's experiences unbelievable.

Interesting. I don't know how I'd feel about it had I not had experience myself...or heard from family folklore other stories of family members.

There is always the theory that we WANT to believe and can stretch/mold things to fit those beliefs..but there are some thing so unbelievable, so unexplainable that I don't fully buy that.

That said, I find myself more of a skeptic (though I'm not sounding like it here) than I was when I was younger..maybe it's something that just naturally comes with age? I don't know...but I still find it all so very fascinating.

So that's what I've been thinking about for a few days...hence the thread.I can think about these things for days also. And discuss them. You know really, if you think about it, God is a paranormal thing also. It has never been scientifically proven that he exists, yet religion is so much a part of our society that nobody gives it a second thought. I never condemn someone for believing in God, because everybody is entitled to believe what they want to, but it's really hypocritical for someone that believes in God to condemn someone that doesn't, and might believe in something else. Ultimately faith is faith, whether you believe in a universal being or in a bottle of milk. As I said, one believe is not more or less kooky than the other and I am open to all kinds of different theories, until the correct one will be presented to me with scientific facts. Right now, the Big Bang theory wins in that category, and it's something I can most easily wrap my mind around. Faith is nice and all, but in this day and age, it's a little outdated. Gods were created in times when people really had no clue and had to attribute a lot of incidents and happenstances to something or someone. Heck, for the longest time they thought they earth was flat. So, I really blame it on ignorance. :p

Me? As I've stated before I've always been a big believer in everything...even good old Nessy :pThat's really not a name you should mention around me. My parents used to call me Nessie when I was little, and many people found that the funniest thing ever...obviously.

I definitely don't put this stuff in the same pot as religion either. I hope that's not how I came across, but that's not my intention. Religion, to me, is such a personal thing...rather faith is...but I don't group it with the paranormal, though interestingly enough three of the things unexplainable things I've experienced have been related to religion...

None of this is stuff that occupies a large portion of my thoughts. And I definitely put it in a different category from religion (which I don't define as narrowly as some people do, evidently).I don't either, really, it's just that if you look strictly at the facts, God and everything that goes along with it is just as unexplained as any other theory or believe. As in...there are no facts. But as I said, it's such a large part of our society that nobody sees it that way. It has become a fact. Just like with any other thing that the majority of a group believes in.

You can believe God created mankind, you can believe aliens did it, you can believe they did it together or you can believe that it all started with the Big Bang and we evolved from that. It's all really a matter of opinion. I don't think that's narrow minded on my side. It's actually very open minded. I am open to all kinds of different theories.

that's just a sign of my laziness in responding to the question. I guess what I should have said is that I don't rule out much of anything as not possible.

I mean, if you come to me with stories about the creature from the Black Lagoon, I'd probably think you're a little nutty. I try to take each "idea" and think about it.

Yep. In the middle of the day, over Anaheim, California. It was cigar/tubular in shape, kind of greyish/white colored. I couldn't tell how large it was, or how high it was...it kind of looked like it was floating but in a controlled way. There were a few high puffy clouds in the sky and it was well above them.

Well, I wouldn't call it playing. You definitely don't want to mess with that ****. I don't have any personal experience with ouija boards, but basically, they're supposed to help conjure ghosts/departed spirits. I'd take everyone's advice here and stay away from them, personally. At best, it's a lot of hogwash and you'll be wasting your time; at worst, you could be asking for trouble, metaphysically speaking.

My belief is that God and religioin in general is our way of making everything extraterrestrial more palatable and easier to embrace. While creationism and Darwinism appear as polar opposites, including an intergallactic factor into another theory actually melds them together. If God is extraterrestrial and created man in his own image than he very well could have arrived with the appearance of something we haven't seen? Who knows what God looks like? And if that being is bred with the simian species that was already here and had started to evolve and adapt, couldn't it look something like the missing link that Darwinists still haven't found?

The questions of whether aliens have visited the earth or why they would is almost as moot as to ask why scientists continue to do research that could improve or save life on this planet. And not just for humans but other species. Why do humans try to save endangered animals? Why do they pick them up from their natural habitats put them in controlled environments and help them to thrive and repopluate? Is it out of sheer kindness or is it to maintain a delicate balance among the world's ecosystems that keep us alive and evolving? And could there be a greater balance throughout the galaxies that is just as delicate that requires some maintenance?

Evolution is everywhere, including the infinite galaxies and all the planets past and present. When this planet's time to die has come it's the Christian belief that God will pick up the holy and ascend them to Heaven in a glorious reunion with all their beloved. But I bet that it'll be a much less glorified round-up of people who not just can but are willing to contribute to a future society of a more understanding and peaceful higher intelligence. People who have true faith not in what they are told to believe, but what they are willing to believe. They are accepting of the facts however they may challenge what they already believe. They change their beliefs by understanding those facts and by increasing their faith not by abandoning it. And then they evolve. Because you cannot evolve if you do not learn and you do not learn if you do not understand.

So it is my belief that yes Virginia, there are aliens and the reason they visit is not to call out Tom Cruise in a battle royal but to pick up some fine earthlings and make some sweet alien love. Then take 'em back to their crib for some heavy-duty evolutionatin' like the way God intended.

My belief is that God and religioin in general is our way of making everything extraterrestrial more palatable and easier to embrace.

Again, I think it's a mistake to reduce religion to creation myths (which as I said, some religions don't even have). They are largely beside the point. I would also argue that faith has nothing to do with accepting a slate of beliefs about anything.

Never saw a UFO but do keep wondering what all of those planets and galaxies are doing out there? I don't think we are the only ones in this universe.
