View Full Version : outtakes and demos by Christine

Members of the Stevie Forum are posting dozens of her outtakes and demos . That' nice, but I'd really like to get some music by Christine that I haven't heard. Can some of you put up links here to a couple of dozen of her unreleased work? (Hey, a couple of hundred would be even better!) Btw, I don't come here as often as I should, so if you've already done this, my apologies.

One of the reasons that there are such a plethora of Stevie demos is because she allegedly had quite a few tapes "stolen"

It seems that Christine keeps closer watch on demo tapes & such.

Here's a thread from the Seven Wonders board. It was started less than 2 weeks ago, so most of these links should still be OK. If any aren't, I'd be happy to re-post them. As ChiliD said, there isn't anywhere nearly as much Chris stuff out there as Stevie stuff, partly because Chris hasn't had her stuff "stolen" & partly because Chris just was never really all that prolific.

Most of the demo/bootleg stuff I have heard of hers is quite weird, but I especially liked the version of 'You and I Part II' with her singing. I prefer Lindsey doing the vocals, but Chris' version was good as well.

Thanks. Unfortunately for me, sendit has taken down the songs. If you could repost them when you have the time, that'll be great! I did get a few other outtakes from Seven Wonders, and it's wonderful to her new (to me) material by Chris!)

I just checked that SW thread. I don't know how many of those tracks that I have that were posted using YouSendIt. I do have all of those Rumours reheasals boots. I'll post some of the Chris tracks from those rehearsals later. It may take me awhile though.

Is that not what Chris says after YMLF on The Dance? Or am I way off? She says it on Over My Head on the Silver Springs single too. Probably the same.

Thanks Mary Anne for posting those excellent outtakes. I especially liked the Lindsey-Christine vocals on "Tell Me." Very interesting. Makes me wonder what entire albums like "Future Games" or "Bare Trees" would sound like if performed by the Rumors lineup.

I tried to download her vocal on "And You and , Part II" but wasn't a member of that site. Does anyone have that demo that can be either posted on yousendit, or sent as an mp3 via internet?

Oh--and I think she also said "Thank you very much. Thank You" after her performance on "Temporary One," which was edited out of the cd version.

Didn't Elvis Presley you say "Thank You Very Much. Thank You" too?

I think he did. By the way, a number of times before one of her songs, Chris would say, "Now I'd like to carry on......." Paul McCartney used to say the same thing back during Beatles shows. She must have lifted that from Paul.

Anything where she's singing one of Stevie's songs is a hoot. She butchers the lyrics (worse than Stevie) and doesn't even seem to be trying to sing well. I love the Rhiannon one where she starts singing "Dreams unwind, love's a state of mind" and then goes, "etc., etc." Sometimes it would be nice if Stevie did that.

nicepace
08-10-2007, 07:43 AM
Remember that these are rehearsal tapes, not performances. Chris isn't performing the song, she's just roughly filling in the vocal for the purpose of the band practicing. If she were really performing she'd learn the lyrics. These rehearsal tapes were never meant to be heard by us fans.

My question is, where was Stevie during these rehearsals? Did they tell her not to show up because they were rehearsing the instrumentals and she was just the vocalist? There's another good reason for women in rock bands to play an instrument; this way they get to be a real part of the band and not just show up at the last minute to fill in the vocal.

Jessica
08-10-2007, 10:14 AM
Oh, believe me, I get it. It's just a hoot. Although Chris has played and sung on Rhiannon, Gypsy and Dreams enough that you'd think she'd know the lyrics. But, since Stevie herself has been known to forget, you can't expect Chris to remember. I laugh when she sort of just sings "la la" when she doesn't know the words and the "etc., etc." was priceless. I've also wondered why Stevie wasn't there. If they were just doing a sound check, did it have to be one of her songs?

aleuzzi

I have yet to hear a rehearsal where Stevie sings one of Chris songs. Thar would be weird, too.

David
08-10-2007, 12:26 PM
My question is, where was Stevie during these rehearsals? Did they tell her not to show up because they were rehearsing the instrumentals and she was just the vocalist?Dunno, but Stevie had some sort of health problem that forced the postponement of two or three weeks' worth of Mac shows at the beginning of the tour. Aside from that, I bet there was a bunch of tour rehearsing over the years that Stevie didn't show up for (& even one or two of the other members). Plus, rehearsals don't even really require everyone every time out -- not in my experience, they don't. There are times when you get more done when some of the band isn't there at all, or at least hangs out in another room.

There's another good reason for women in rock bands to play an instrument; this way they get to be a real part of the band and not just show up at the last minute to fill in the vocal.I rate that Stevie's biggest causal problem in the group in terms of how she was treated.

Jessica

You mean the tambourine is not an instrument?

David
08-10-2007, 05:29 PM
You mean the tambourine is not an instrument?

It is a proper percussion instrument. But Stevie wasn't even very good at that. If you hear a tambourine on old FM albums, it's probably Mick who recorded it (like on GYOW). For Stevie, it was just a cool prop for the stage.

Edit: Since this is Christine's forum, I want to add that Christine was an excellent maraca player, as you can hear from live versions of Monday Morning, Oh Well, & World Turning. On Monday Morning, she even had to do maracas & organ simultaneously, which is HARD.

Gail

A "bad" word is all relative. I'd call it an appropriate expletive. No worse than any other members of the group...or most other people. She's overall a very classy woman. She's not a child, and its unrealistic to think that she would never utter a swear. Everybody poops. And many people swear.

I enjoy Stevie's advanced piano accompaniment of herself on Dreams on the Classic Albums program :)

On the subject of Christine, I love how you can actually hear her vocals on Dreams when Ken strips the rest of the tracks away on Classic Albums.

Anyway, I was just goofing about Stevie and the tambourine. I just always thought it was something to do with her hands. I was glad when she dropped the cowbell from her routine, also. I've never thought of her as a musician, just a singer and songwriter. Christine has always struck me as more of a musician than anything.
