According to Amazon, who has finally posted the cover photo, the CV CD/DVD is #623 in music on their website. That is fantastic since the album doesn't drop for another 45 days!

thats what im thinking, this is a little "experiment" if this sells well, well get another new album. and it'll do well, so Im more than optimistic.

Why would this be a "experiment"? Her last solo album sold great, for her. It debuted at number 5, it was number one on Amazon preorders and has sold almost as much as Say You Will. 700,000 plus in sales is nothing to sneeze at. She knows how well TISL did...why would she need to experiment with CV? Her comment in Oz about radio airplay was just a front, IMO. I do not think that is the real reason she is not interested in recording anymore.

I agree. I think she's possibly just tapped out creativitely. And TISL did sell well, for her. She can't possibly expect to sell in the millions as they did in her hey day so 700,000 is more than respectable

Audio problems or not, I think exposure (pun intended) on the Super Bowl pre-game show peeked a lot of people's interest in her. The fact that she is a rock and roll survivor and still out there performing says a lot. (plus the fact that there seems to be a lot of people viewing the clip on YouTube).

I'm so pleased for Stevie, and I do hope it'll give her some sort of confidence boost if that's really what she needs to get back in the recording studio (but I too have my doubt that that's the real reason).

Either way I'm thrilled! I hope it has just as fantastic a debut as TISL. And I can't wait for the DVD.

I don't expect it to do as well as TISL, as it is only a Best Of, which she already has a Best Of and a box set out. Many people who have one of those won't buy it.

In fact, Joshua and I were just talking about the same thing... that if Stevie's confidence is indeed shaken for some reason, perhaps solid sales for this release will show her that there is still a place for her in today's music market.

Many people who have one of those won't buy it.Fleetwood Mac already had a very successful "greatest hits" album and a boxed-set, yet 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac' still peaked at #12 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart and has sold over a million copies.

Stevie's last "best of" is nearly 17 years old, and her boxed set has been out for nearly a decade. I don't think either will particularly hinder sales of 'Crystal Visions,' though it is unlikely that it will do as well as 'VBoFM.'

Hmm, I did not mean anything negative by my question. Do not be so overly sensitive. I was just making a point that I do not think this is an experiment or that anything that happens with CV will give Stevie a boost to record another solo album. CV selling well is a good thing for Stevie, of course. IMHO, nothing that happens with CV will make a difference in her future. :wavey:

...don't forget that one thing Crystal Visions has that none of the aforementioned Best of albums have is the DVD. I really think that will attract just as many buyers as a new CD. really, I do.

MacMan
02-11-2007, 02:21 PM
Out of the box, it may not explode like TISL and be certified gold within a month, but it has many great selling features like the dvd, the new live tracks, and the fact that it's different then both Timespace and Enchanted in many ways - that over time it could be one of her better selling albums. Just like Timespace, based on recent soundscan sales, has become the 3rd highest seller in the US - 1.5 million I believe behind Bella Donna and Wild Heart. I would think the cd/dvd combo package will probably disappear after awhile leaving only the best of cd available in the coming years unless they sell the dvd seperately.

And I think too that good sales for this, like others have said, can only show that there still is interest in Stevie and that she is a viable artist out there that can still move product, which is the whole point of releasing anything... If you don't sell, there's not much point in putting it out especially when the production costs and promotion basically come out of her pocket.

Something new from Stevie is always a good thing. I’m listening to Crystal Visions as I type – homemade version, of course. Any Stevie fan, with the right mix of cds and bootlegs can create a CV playlist right on their ipod. First impression - I like the sequence and think it flows nicely (even the gay Deep Dish Dreams fits).

The good – the inclusion of some of her Best Fleetwood Mac work.. Dreams, Rhiannon, Silver Springs, and Landslide. Let’s face it folks.. some of Stevie’s best music comes from her Mac moments and I like having these on her best of collection. ** note – accidentally copied the Dance version of Silver Springs which I hadn’t listen to in a while... forgot how achingly painful that version is. She’s using the Mastered original version I see– which is also stellar. Also, it would have been nice to have the acoustic “Gypsy” from one of the AHI shows, but at least we have 4 Fleetwood Mac songs to groove to.. I can’t say it enough, but I love the inclusion of her Mac songs.. They belong on a best of Nicks collection..

Hoping – I hope she uses the radio mix version of “I Can’t Wait”. I hope that “Landslide” and “Edge of Seventeen” are mixed better than the boots that are floating around.. I’m sure they will be, so that’s something to look forward to. Also, a professionally sounding “Rock and Roll” is something that makes my mouth water. It also would be cool to have the extended version of “Planets” but with Stevie you never know…

About the DVD – where the hell is “If You Ever Did Believe” and “Running Through the Garden” (albeit morphed through the lackluster “Everyday” song)??? I can’t believe they didn’t make the cut. Still something to look forward to… finally to get DVD versions of Stevie’s videos... now where is Fleetwood Macs??

Stevie can count on this fan buying at least 3 copies – 2 hard copies and one Itunes download. Counting the days..yep.. i see Platinum in Stevie's futue..

Hey there, Keith... long time, no see.
How are things in your world, buddy?

Also, it would have been nice to have the acoustic “Gypsy” from one of the AHI showsI think Stevie has forgotten about this performance, but it was such a beautiful rendition. Live "Gypsy" has never really had the charm of the studio version, but the AHI 2000 performance changed that, by recasting the song in a new light.
Including it on 'Crystal Visions' would have been a brilliant move... assuming it was professionally recorded.

Hoping – I hope she uses the radio mix version of “I Can’t Wait”. It also would be cool to have the extended version of “Planets” but with Stevie you never know…I'm also hoping that some of the tracks are actually the radio/single versions.
With live versions of "Rhiannon" and "Edge of Seventeen" on there -- neither of which ever clocks in at anything less than 6 minutes -- I doubt there'd be room for the 6:27 extended version of "Planets"... so I have a feeling we're either going to get the album version or the radio edit.

About the DVD – where the hell is “If You Ever Did Believe”???The consensus around here is that "If You Ever Did Believe" wasn't included because of rights issues with the footage from 'Practical Magic.'
It's the same reason two of Chris Isaak's videos ("Two Hearts" and "Graduation Day") were left off of his recent DVD.

Still something to look forward to… finally to get DVD versions of Stevie’s videos... now where is Fleetwood Macs??Hopefully a collection of FM's videos will soon follow!

I totally agree. This is something that was not done on her previous two 'best of' collections. This group of songs, including both solo and with FM, present Stevie as one of the most formidable singer/songwriter women in rock over the last two or three generations. IMO, i think Stevie is considering Rock and Roll as a "new" song on this album, and i think she will release it as a single. It's just like what Sheryl Crow did on her greatest hits album in 2003 with The First Cut is the Deepest. Cat Stevens wrote the song, and Rod Stewart covered it in the late 70's. I think she brought that song back to life and i think Stevie will do the same with R&R!

While most of the new CD is redundant, I'm happy to get her "Rock and Roll" cover, as well as the other live songs. I wonder where the live Rhiannon is coming from?!

However I find it very weird that Edge of Seventeen is featured twice, especially the live one with MSO? Why that song of all songs???? Wouldn't Beauty and the Beast be a better one to feature with a live orchestra?

Did Chris Nicks have anything to do with the graphics? I hope not. The cover is just a bit suspicious. I like the photo, but that is an old photo - of much younger Stevie. Couldn't they use a current photo....but then again, most of this music is from the past, hence the photo. Oh well,

Stevie is very much a visual performer IMO. She is an excellent singer, but looking at her perform is the icing on the cake. Whether it's videos or live, part of the package is the visual. Most people have never seen alot of the performances on the DVD.

Let's not forget... it's all about marketing too. Stevie needs to be marketed. The Superbowl was helpful, but hopefully the label has a little something behind this.

You know, German Amazon doesn't have the set on their pre-order list. They're saying they're not selling it. They do have a March 27 release date listed, but I wonder how accurate that is.

About the DVD – where the hell is “If You Ever Did Believe” and “Running Through the Garden” (albeit morphed through the lackluster “Everyday” song)???

i am so off to make that video RIGHT NOW
but it really needs a shot of LInds locked up in a cage in the middle of a maze and Stevie dressed as Alice following an Ace of Spades trying to find him :D

It is slowly climbing in sales because it is now 197, used to be 200 something a little while ago. I think word is starting to get out about this release among casual fans. Not too shabby considering all the artist competition out there for getting heard and for sales.

All we need now is for Stevie to do some press for this and I am sure it will take off.

Hiya folks...been outta the loop for a while and must admit I was pretty excited to see this. Nothing new but at least it's something and I pre-ordered immediately.

So what is the consensus on CV so I don't have to go back and read all the posts?

So what is the consensus on CV so I don't have to go back and read all the posts? As far as the CD, a lot of people are disappointed by what they consider a "retread" -- while others think it's a nice selection (especially the new live tracks and "Rock & Roll"), considering the fact that it's a contractual obligation.

I think everyone is excited about the DVD though.

Thanks Johnny Boy.:wavey:

I was actually quite happy with the choices, besides the fact I've heard everything on there (or at least some version of all the songs) but overall I think it's a nice collection.

How have you been?

How have you been?I'm doing ok. Could be better, could be worse! :)

How about yourself?

Whats the total # of units sold?

I don't know. That is a good question. I have been wondering that myself.
I wonder what algorhythm (sp?) or equation they use to bump a CD up the scale. I am not sure that info. is posted anywhere on Amazon's site. But would be very interested to find out. Hmm, maybe later tonight I just might have to Google that and see what I come up with, if anything.

wow 101 on amazon. by the time she and Chris hits the road, I hope it will come down to 1, I doubt it, she have to fight the rap crap and hip hop sh2t and new crap rock music on the charts.when march 27th rolls around, I will help by picking up 2 copies of her cd/dvd set, one for backup incase one gets lost or destroyed.

Well, I did a little bit of googling and only came up with the following links on how Amazon.com determines sales ranks. It must be a closely guarded secret, more closely guarded than Fort Knox from what little I could find on the subject.

I know, probably more than you ever wanted to know or care about regarding sales ranks and how they are determined and if they really mean anything.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/surfing.htm

http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_do_i_figure_out_my_amazon_sales_rank.html

Edit: I know these articles talk about books, but am sure the same probably applies to CD units sold.

Well, right now as of 11:38 pm EST it is at 92.

Not that I think Stevie really gives a crap what her "number" is. :lol:I totally see her sitting in her darkened bedroom, the blue glow from the computer screen emanating out, her eyes blood-shot, a cup of coffee in her hand, as she obsessively hits "Refresh" every thirty seconds to see her current Amazon.com sales rank.

Nah, what am I thinking? She'd just have Karen do it.

I just recieved a release schedule for our stores, and it had CV as being released in New Zealand on March 26 by EMI  I called our rep at EMI to check on this information, and they have no idea about this. Warner still has no idea either. So it looks like it isn;t being released here for quite a while :(
