So, as you all know, this is, in my opinion, the best author ever. I was fortunate enough to e-mail him a few times and I heard back and it was great.
So in this thread, feel free to share with us. Are you a Sidney Sheldon fan? Have you read any of his books? And so on and suchforth.
I have read 10 of his (I think) and am currently reading another one entitled "If Tomorrow Comes", and in true Sidney Sheldon form, it is classic, not like any of his stuff isn't.
So anyway, God Bless Sidney Sheldon and His Family.
In his words,
Warmest Wishes,
Ethan

I've never read any of his stuff...as I always thought he was another Danielle Steel

You don't like Danielle Steel??? JK, I haven't read any of her stuff yet either.
Mr. Sheldon writes thrillers that you simply can't put down, and he's got stuff for everyone. What kind of novels do you like reading, and then I'll tell you which one of his you should read.

I'll humor.
No Ethan, I never could stand his writing style and thought his stories were just plain silly. Sorry.
I am a literary snob, I admit it. I have EVERYTHING F.Scott Fitzgerald ever wrote though, and all of Anthony Trollope's work, and many works by all the great Russians, and Erich Maria Remarque, and William Makepeace Thackeray is a favorite of mine, and James Joyce and Philip Roth, and yes, I admit it, even Jane Austen. Her style and wit slay me every time. EM Forster, Henry James, Edith Wharton and the like, now their works make me feel like I am in heaven when I read them.
Sidney Sheldon may have been a sweet man but his predictable prose nor predictable imagination ever did anything for me.
My "me- time" is very sparse and valuable, what with a seventeen-month-old son and another one to be born in the next few days. The few moments I DO have to devote to my passion (reading), I spend on good, broad, deep works, that resonate within me and move and change me.
So, no on Sidney Sheldon here.

It doesn't, and I looked at the one Chris mentioned on Amazon along with some others. I'll never say never, but he's never appealed to me before now - so I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Other Side Of Midnight was his best seller I think, but I was never very fond of it. I personally, If I had to reccommend would be either his later works, or Rage of Angels. If you like the mafia, DEFINATELY Rage of Angels.

Until recently, I had a strange aversion to fiction, and read mostly self-help, spirituality, and Buddhist scripture. I also love a good biography. But Sidney Sheldon never appealed to me (wasn't he also the creator of I Dream of Jeannie?)...I always put him in the same boat with V. C. Andrews (and Danielle Steele). Is that about right?
I checked out I Know This Much Is True and The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter at the library yesterday...

you got it. mass market fiction you can skim through in an hour or two without much thought. and then you forget it.
(sorry, ethan. his work is just not at all challenging, or particularly well written for that matter. that's my opinion. i read him when i was about 10 or 11, around the same time i read danielle steele crap. but hey, that's what you do when you're 10)

What about V. C. Andrews? I can't believe that woman didn't have the SVU busting down her door; if she'd written her books 15-20 years later, she probably would have. :distress:

I agree with the general sentiment - Sidney Sheldon is old meme. I've never read any of his work, and to be honest, I don't plan on doing so now, since the dead horse is having its ass beat.
And besides, if he's anything like Danielle Steele, who induces vomiting better than ipecac syrup, then I'm definitely not interested.

Ethan, you know I've defended you many times on here and I don't think anyone deserves to be picked on (well, maybe certain conservative politicians and right-wing religious zealots, however that's a different story), but some of the other Ledgies have good points.
Maybe not presented in the best ways -- but good points nonetheless.
So may I offer a bit of advice?
Your enthusiasm is a great thing. You seem to throw yourself into things wholeheartedly, and that's very admirable.
But, more often than not, the old adage is true... "less is more."
Posting here shouldn't be a popularity contest... who's started the most threads... whose threads have the most views or replies... etc.
You want to strive for quality over quantity.
If one of your threads dies out, let it be. It happens. Not every thread that every Ledgie has started, can stay active for all eternity.
If you have something new or noteworthy to add to a topic, then, by all means, revive the thread. That's definitely preferable to starting a brand new thread for a topic that's already been, or is currently being, discussed.
And it's ok to ask for advice (whether it be career advice, love advice, or so on), but it's better to limit the amount of similarly-themed topics (three different threads about Sidney Sheldon, or wanting to be a novelist, for example).
We all enjoy a little bit of attention from time to time, but if you seek it out too frequently or too aggressively, eventually you get the opposite result, and people stop paying attention to you all together. Or they begin to lash out at you.
Anyway, I offer this advice sincerely. I'm not trying to quell your enthusiasm or asking you to change your personality.
So please give it some serious thought. It'll make your visits here... and everyone else's visits here... more enjoyable.
(Note to everyone else... can we please avoid the taunting and mocking? Not only is it against the Ledge guidelines, but it's also an awful way to treat someone. As "Pollyanna" as I know that sounds.)
Miss Vicky

I know you always have the best of intentions and are forever striving to be the peacekeeper (excuse the pun), but honestly you're wasting your time with this one. Many people have tried to get through to him using rational explanations and giving similar advice without any success. I doubt he's ever going to change and he will go on being a constant source of aggravation to some and a running joke to others. It's this exact behavior that has caused him to be considered a troll elsewhere on the web.
Leopards don't change their spots, even when rationally advised that they should. :D

Er... just to recap another of your posts...
As is known, some threads that are created on this board recieve many, many views and comments and others recieve very few. So wouldn't it be kind of a cool creative idea to have a kind of grade scale to rank our threads, and since this is a music board, we could give out gold, platinum, multiplatinum and then diamond certifications.
I think this would be just a creative way to just recognize those threads that are popular with their peirs...... So my thinking is as follows. Here is the scale..
1. Gold Thread: 500 views and or 30 replies
2. Platinum Thread 1000 views and or 70 replies
3. Double Platinum Thread 1300 views and or 100 replies
4. Triple Platinum Thread 1650 views and or 125 replies
5. Multi Platinum Thread 1999 views and or 150 replies
6. Double Multi Platinum Thread 2500 views and or 185 replies
7. Triple Multi Platinum Thread 3000 views and or 225 replies
8. Diamond Thread 3500 views and or 260 replies
