I woke up this morning to my sports radio station and was pleasantly surprised to hear them playing Stand Back. But THEN, they did a voiceover of a goat and spent several minutes making fun of our girl. It was horrible!! I was reminded of how we all noticed that the crowd was more interested in waving to the TV cameras and drinking beer than appreciating her and her music. Has anyone else heard stuff like this, or is this just my crummy Boston station? (Unfortunately, this station and this show are rated number 1 in the country, so probably lots of people heard it.):distress:

I just had to sound off, 'cause I thought she looked great!:blob1:

It sucks. She is def. not everyone's cup of tea. I remember some goat jokes
surfacing in 82/83 when Wild Heart was released.

Looking on the positive side, at least people are still talking about her. Bad publicity is better than no publicity at all. If anything, people who are not familiar with Stevie's music may be intrigued (in a morbid kinda way) and may check out the "goat woman." And then they'll be hooked in like the rest of us.

I remember as a kid (in the early 80s) that my sister would constantly give me grief for being a Stevie fan. She would call her "Steven," because of her deep, raspy voice, and would always comment that she sounded like an old grandma. And we're talking BD/WH era here! Of course a few years later, I caught her in the act of blasting my cassette dub of RAL on her stereo when she thought no one was around! Just goes to show you that the biggest Stevie detractors are also the biggest closet fans.

not everyone is gonna like everyone. and it's easy to rip on Stevie...way easy. I've learned to live with it for the most part, but it does get annoying.

I always say...look at Barbra Streisand, whom I love too...the most successful female artist of all time and the best vocalist, imo, of all time...she gets it from every angle...so...it's not a true indication of talent or anything.

so, in closing...JUST BREATHE GIRL! it'll be a'ight.

Yeah, the jokes are cruel, but I really don't think many people dislike Stevie. It's easy to poke fun at celebrities. If you really probed, you'd likely find that even the people doing the goat jokes like her and thought she looked good yesterday.

My experience is that when I initially tell someone I'm a Stevie fan, they make some sort of joke about her, but then they stop and think and admit they've always liked her also.

The woman is a rock and roll legend and even though she is all about nostalgia these days, she looks and sounds very good and puts on an elegant performance. Unlike many bands/singers from the same era who make me cringe nowadays. She can be proud of her performance yesterday; it was not easy to sing in front of drunk Super Bowl fans and a nationally televised audience.

One of my favourite spoofs is the 'Stevie Nicks: What the Hell Is She Saying?' one. Especially love the 'digitally remumbled' line.

ITA.

she is a legend. she catches a lot of flack here and there, but it's ok. it's a weird form of flattery realy. when all is said and done, Stevie's mark is on the world.

She's still annoying people, 34 years after Buckingham/Nicks came out.

I'd say she's doing something right!

Often radio stations will voiceover a goat before and after one of Stevie's songs...thanks to southpark!

Before the Superbowl a local station here was making fun of Prince, saying he was "over". Ridiculous. Radio and media people are paid to talk about celebrities. They make fun of practically everybody, so don't take it to heart.

Goat jokes about Stevie Nicks are about as original as walking up to a guy named Luke, and saying, "I am your father."

So don't sweat it. :)

Consider the source - sports radio announcer? Puh-leeez!

He's probably got a tiny wanker and drives a BIIIIIIG truck.

Yeah the morning AM radio people here in Providence were ragging on Stevie too. It was a male and female announcer and they both said that they liked Stevie but the guy said that he liked her back in the day when she was 'hot'.

Probably just upset that he can't get his noodle wet over her anymore.

For some reason, I never thought of doing that with the last guy I knew who was named Luke. Then again, I had other thoughts in mind. ;)

I'm far more upset with the Howard Sterns of the world than I am with people who just joke. I still remember hearing about an interview where the DJs were going "I gained weight, I gained weight" and making fun of Stevie before she appeared on their show. After she appeared (either in a phoner or in studio), they were gushing about how gracious she was.

If people genuinely hate Stevie and they try to make me feel anything negative about her, they can go eff themselves. If they just want to make fun of her, they can talk to the hand 'cuz the rest of me ain't listening.
