VH1 has posted info on the new album (still calling it Reflections) and has posted this "cover photo" along with it. What do you guys think, could this be the real thing?

Could be but I'm not sure if she would use pics that are soooooooo old. On the other hand, Worthington took the pictures so this might be the cover.

Very possible. It's consistent with what's been discussed... Herbie and the overlayed images.

This image looks very much like what was described by the person on the 7W board who says she is friends with Worthington... she had mentioned a *new photo shoot* - that the cover would have a close-up of Stevie's face, and that a similar image would be behind her head (as well as on the other side of the cd)...
EDIT - We posted around the same time, Daniel! Good to know that I wasn't imagining recent rumours, ;)

I don't know, there are better pictures that came out of that shoot. These are nice, but I'd choose different ones. Besides, I rather have something new. Come on now, there better be new pics in that booklet.

I like the simplicity and I like the shots used for the cover... but I do have to admit it's a bit disappointing not having a new photo grace the cover. In fact, this photo session pre-dates practically all of the music on this collection! It is quite different from any of her other albums in that it isn't "airy-fairy" and ethereal. It's just Stevie keepin' it real. The goddess next door. It gives off a kind of boho or bobo aesthete, as if to say, "Stevie is a rawk chick, dig?"
Also, why is everybody listing "For You" as a separate track?

if they are going to use these photos, I'd rather them use top right or bottom left. You see, I have a theory. The two pictures they chose to use now somehow look a little off to me. As if she's older than she really was then. Most of the pictures in that shoot are way better, but I get the feeling they chose these because it represents the current Stevie a little better? I don't know what it is, but those cover pics just look different from the ones we already have. Could be just me. I need a bigger version.

Hmmm... come to think of it... maybe you're onto something. Maybe it is because the image is so small, but it does appear that the "reflected" image in the background appears to be a more "mature" looking Stevie. How clever would that be! As if to say, "Young Stevie, meet Old Stevie." It would totally make sense within the context of a career retrospective.

That's be a great cover if it was 1980 and she was still 32.
Or if it was a bunch of Tusk and Bella Donna outtakes.
Otherwise, it just screams, "Stevie Nicks - super sexy 27 years ago!"

My gut feeling is that this is the real deal. I mean, it's a simple design and all that, but that's an awful lot of effort to create just a "placeholder" for the final cover image. What I find rather peculiar is the fact that the words "Reflections" or "Crystal Visions" are not printed on the cover anywhere...
The lettering is not the greatest, but it's still a vast improvement over Street Angel.

I tend to think so, too. I don't think fans can upload images into that space on VH1, so it's probably the real deal.
What I find rather peculiar is the fact that the words "Reflections" or "Crystal Visions" are not printed on the cover anywhere...
Text changes are simple and can always be made at the last minute. Reprise has been planning this release for a long time (at least two years in the making), so they probably had a lot of the graphics prepared months ago. After all, the release was originally called "The Best of Stevie Nicks," which retail info supports, so this is likely an early composite for the cover.

I was going to say the same thing. It's definitely a preliminary version of the cover since there's no real title on it. And remember, before we got the final cover images of both Trouble in Shangri-la and Say You Will, they posted other shots that wound up in the liner notes or the back covers of each album.

Yeah, but the most recent material on it was about 15 years old (if you don't count the rehashed Big ove & Go Insane from '97, which were already almost 10 years old upon its release.) Stevie's has a few more recent songs (within the last 6 years) as well as the live songs which are only a year old at this point.
I'm hoping that a current pic of Stevie will be on the back cover, at the very least.

There is NO way! This pic was clearly taken during the Tusk sessions. This was pre-rhinoplasty too!
As I said before, I kinda suspect the photo in the background is of recent vintage. Although it's hard to tell, she's got pronounced labial folds in that background pic, whereas she doesn't have any apparent labial folds in the original 1979 photo shoot.

I think she clarified today by saying that Herbie told her they were "new" photos of Stevie...meaning never used before.. She did say she assumed he meant he shot recent photos but maybe she misunderstood. (paraphrasing what I read over on Seven Wonders...I do not want to venture over there to reread, lol)
I think it is pretty obvious that both photos are Tusk era. The hat and shirt are the same ones used in the photo in the Enchanted box set. Her hair, nose and shape of her face look very Tusk'ish, to me. I really like the cover...she looks gorgeous. Too airbrushed, but gorgeous.

Using your collection of photos i decided to do a little experiment. I magnified the image and compared it to a magnified image that someone did of the cover over at the 7W board, and i discovered that the sleeve of the blouse Stevie is wearing in the top right image of this collage is different from the sleeve of the blouse she is wearing in the second background pic of the album picture. The one in the collage is open at the end, while the one on the cover is closed or tighter at the end. This means that background pic must have been taken at a different time from the one in the foreground because the blouse isn't exactly the same.

I think there was less scrutiny of the Zapruder film.
To be honest, I don't see the difference in the sleeves on those two photos. Perhaps it is because of my monitor.
I am still a bit perplexed... on the one hand, I think it's the same photo session. But on the other hand... she looks a little different in that background photo- a little fuller, a little droopier around the eyes, etc. If anything, I think the hat looks different in that background pic... but then again, perhaps it's because the feather was airbrushed out when the two images were merged?

I am not seeing any difference in the blouses. Except the sleeve is all the way down in one and up a bit in the other. (because her arm is facing up) The hat looks slightly different but I think it is because of the shading, ect. Photoshopping the feather out made the coloring and shape different but it is still the same hat and same session.
danax6
02-07-2007, 09:01 AM
It's the same session, but they've picked two pictures that are not the best in the bunch, so I suspect it was done for a reason. Or they did something with the pictures. I noticed it from the first time I saw the 'new cover' that something was off with the pics. And I also have a sneakin' suspicion CN is responsible for the crappy ass blending job.
MacMan
02-07-2007, 09:13 AM
I still think it's the same session too.
The pics are reversed as well - you can tell if you look at the pic in the front. The hat is crooked and the little bit of hair coming out of the hat over the right eye, is coming out of the hat over the left eye on the background pic.
And if you follow the strand of wavey hair that trails down the edge of the left side of her face on the pic in the front - it trails down the edge of the right side of her face in the back. The background pic has the feather in it, but her hand is on her head on the left side covering it.
It's hard to tell what the blending really looks like from the small version we have, but I think it's going to look great. I love the pic in the front!
ELIUD
02-07-2007, 09:13 AM
I totally believe it's the same session. The feather is not even photoshopped out of the background pic. It's under her hand on top of her head. The front image is reversed to make the background pic look like a "reflection" of the front image so the feather would have to be on the other side. Also that's why people think she looks different than in the Macman collage. We're looking at her face reversed, people look different that way.

I just don't think it's the same session. Besides my assumption of the different blouse, IMO her face just looks much more mature in the background pic. And I honestly don't think they would do this kind of cover with two pics from the same session which was from 1979/80. There has to be a reason it was done this way.

I am tempted to agree with you, but I still have my doubts  . I think the eyes give it away. Her eyes seem a bit "droopier" in the background image. But the telling sign is the hair, which seems a bit frizzier/poofier and partially covers her left eye; it is also pointing straight down vs. being feathered back. None of the other photos from this session show hair-in-the-eyes.

It is very possible they morphed the possibly older aged one by using a younger pic. and then superimposing and "marrying" her older face to it. It is done all of the time in the photo business.

i thought the back picture was the recent one

My €0.02 : I think it's the same photo session, and I don't want these photos!!
I love that photo session but does anyone else think it's an odd choice for a best of? A best of that's probably aimed to appeal to less-than-hardcore fans -- this isn't the best known image of Stevie, I thought it was more likely to be the distinctive Rhiannon-shawl-type stuff rather than the Tusk beret stuff.
I love it, I just think it's slightly unusual...
