Alright, now that I've finally seen it... my first response was 'Wowee, it's Stevie Nicks going Diana Ross.' That's some funky hair going on right there. I love it though, it's all wild and messy. I don't get the comments about her voice, sounded like standard Stevie to me, nothing wrong with it. She did sound like she was crying rather than singing the first 2 lines, but she was just nervous. I'd be nervous too if I had to sing in front of a bunch of drunk, camera-horny, dancing football fans and keep a straight face because millions are watching. Love, love, love the short skirt and boots still (I'll be advocating those until the day I die, no matter what anyone else says), but I'm still miffed we didn't get 'something new', like reported. Or, has that always been a Morgane Le Fay creation and we just didn't know? I always assumed it was a Margi Kent creation. Who knows.

Btw, I noticed right before the song starts, she throws a shawl behind her (probably GDW), so she had already been performing prior to this. I wish they had shown the entire thing, damnit.

Eh. She didn't really seem that into it, to me. I liked her performance on the Today Show awhile back (last year? 2005?)...at least she looked like she was having a good time. At this Super Bowl thing, she looked like she'd just rolled out of bed. Not impressed.

k - THAT? does not look like a woman approaching 60. i hope i'm that hot at near 60. thanks for posting it to youtube.

she had great energy. hair a touch too long, but i'm not going to quibble. like the wilder look. very hot. once she got past the opening nerves, she sounded great. i must say, i missed the little "WOW-ELL, well you could be standin in... stand back! WOW-ELL, well you could be standin in.. stand back!" from the summer tour (y'all know what i mean, eh? i don't know how to write it out). but overall, great. struck the right tone.

okay - now my little aside... does anyone else find it... i don't know.. weird? odd? sad? bizarre? that in the year 2007, stevie is singing her hit from 1983??? what does that say? (i'm NOT being snarky at all here. i just truly find it odd). i'm curious why she was invited on - as opposed to a christina, or jessica, or someone more to the appeal of the superbowl-type crowd...? i love that she was on - but it's not like she's on promoting new music. you know? btw, what did prince sing? new stuff or old? if he did purple rain era stuff, maybe it was meant to be an 80s feel...?

Other than those (plus "We Will Rock You" at the beginning), it was all 1983 "Purple Rain" tunes, catinthedark...

"Let's Go Crazy"
"Baby I'm a Star"
& of course "Purple Rain"

The stage was awesome tho. And the marching band with the glowing costumes was fun too.

yeah. well, what else would she sing? i'm not trying to be snarky either -- cause lord knows tired and old are the songs she sings. but seriously? other than standard fleetwood mac songs, this is the one song that defined her as a solo artist to the masses.

i'm sure if we were to sit down and take a look at who represents the artists that performed tonight, there'd be a connection -- either in record label or publicity.

I was disappointed in the vocal performance. Maybe she was just all tense from nerves. Or just trying to push it a little past her limitations. Then again, I thought the band and the "girls" sounded, "not so good" too. It all sounded kind of muffled and flat to me. So maybe it's just the way it came across on TV. Nothing like her Today Show performances or how she sounded on her solo tour and the Petty gigs. On a positive note, I thought she looked GREAT! This woman should be a role model on how to stay sexy and young for females in their fifties and pushing sixty!! Love the wildness in her hair. I mean, after all she is a ROCK STAR!! :xoxo:

I thought Stevie did a very good job, given the audience and how nervous I'm sure she was. I mean, she's nervous playing for her diehards so I could only imagine how she was with this crowd and the nationally televised thing.

But we can't be surprised to read negative reviews of her performance. She played for the whole country today. Many of these people haven't thought about her for 20 years or so, many others have never heard of her. It's just the way it is.

I'd almost completely blame it on the audio feed - not so much the performance. Maybe the high humidity has an effect on a voice:shrug:

I think Stand Back was the best choice. she had small timeframe to perform and no matter how "tired and old" Stand Back may be to some, it always manages to get any crowd on it's feet and is a great, feel-good song, plus Stevie has said it's her favorite song to perform onstage.

and as for the artists performing being connected, that's not a new thing...it happens all the time. it's not like they just threw Stevie in for the hell of it or it was a favor to anyone.

She looks like a pissed off, down and dirty rocker for most of it. Well, that's relative to regular modern day Stevie anyway. It's all in the stance.

She's hitting hitting notes in unexpected places, seemingly performing for her own pleasure rather than putting on a smile-time-happy-good-times act for the crowd, and there's something about the way she says "away from you" after the bridge.

I thought it was great, much better than ANY non-Live in Boston/Today Show performances from the last eight years.

Not the best performance of "Stand Back" I've ever seen, but it's hard to top Live in Boston. The July 10, 2005 Nissan Pavilion version played it safe vocally, but she was REALLY into it from the physical standpoint.

I guess considering the high humidity, she did pretty well.

I have a feeling she just had an off-day yesterday. For whatever reason. Humidity. Jet lag. Nerves. Allergies (mold season?). Bronchitis acting up? Illness? Vocal mix (which was very, very dry). I also think it could have partly been related to the altered/shortened arrangement and being careful not to screw up. And with all of those lights and cameras buzzing around in the air, it was probably very, very distracting, making it very difficult to concentrate on her vocals. Also, if her ear monitors were too quiet, she may have felt the need to belt out each line even harder Suffice it to say, she was totally outside of her comfort zone yesterday. Okay, enough excuses for Mama!

Still, I was so surprised to hear her sounding so "off" yesterday, especially since she was singing like a bird in December. And SB over the years has kind of morphed into this three-note scream-fest. I wish she would follow the melody of the original recording more faithfully, slow down the tempo, and stop yelling out the lyrics.

I saw part of it. I am actually quite an admirer of Romero Britto's art, so I was expecting some beautiful "artwork come to life" sets. Instead, it was just a bunch of guys wearing these ugly baggy boardshorts with Britto graphics with a white tank top. Muy creative!!

she had great energy. hair a touch too long, but i'm not going to quibble. like the wilder look.

I don't know if anyone saw Katie Couric on the pregame show but her hair looked the same way. I wish I knew how to capture a screenshot of it and post it for you guys. The humidity with the drenching rain in Miami must have been hell for the hair and makeup people. I also noticed that Gloria Estefan just went ahead and pulled her hair back for her introduction of the Cirque Du Soleil.

okay - now my little aside... does anyone else find it... i don't know.. weird? odd? sad? bizarre? that in the year 2007, stevie is singing her hit from 1983???

Yes. I was thinking the same thing.

btw, what did prince sing? new stuff or old? if he did purple rain era stuff, maybe it was meant to be an 80s feel...?

Prince tore the joint up with Let's Get Crazy, Proud Mary (!) some Hendrix and closed with Purple Rain. If this is what his show at the Rio is like then I so want to go to it. He ****in' rocked, in the pouring rain no less. It was really kind of a cool effect for him to do Purple Rain in it. I was so afraid for his dancers because that stage was soaked. And I was worried about him ruining his guitars. :o

And it's the awesome YouTube posting from The Ledge guys! Congrats Macfanforever & SpyNote!

I think so.

You know, I watched the performance again, and she sold it. She even stayed in the higher range for the "so I went on down the road" part. I don't get all the grief being given for this performance. Was it her best - no -- but is that a solid B+ IMO.

I'm so confused by the new skirt. It's the same one she's been wearing lately, i.e. Tom Petty tour and Dec in Vegas, but it's not a standard handkerchief hem. It looks like it started out as one but may have turned out to be too long so she rolled up the hem and kinda tucked it underneath somehow. With staples maybe? I've done that with my jeans. It's just very wierd.

Love the jacket though.

I think she was making baby-twirls yesterday because of the shortened arrangement. She probably has each of her power twirls timed for her normal show... but she probably didn't know how many she could squeeze into the shortened guitar solo yesterday, so she stopped a little early, for fear of overtwirling.

All of her faster twirling of late has been while wearing the Frankeboks. I haven't seen her twirl in heels since the Katrina concert on the Today show. And that was very similar in momentum. I'd rather she wear the heels and keep the twirls moderately paced then ever put on those ugly-ass shoes again.

I have to agree about the sh2tty audio feed ,no stereo seperation mix of the band.it sound like cbs did not care about it.I hope they do better at the grammys next week. Stevie's performance was superb under the short time limit, they gave her.and the weather didn't help at all.

I love Stevie, and I know that she's pushing 60, but I have heard much better. To be honest, if I were singing a song that's been played to death for the past 20-some years, I'd half-ass it, too. She looks great, though.

Actually, from what I could see in that dress she wore to The Melbourne Cup or whatever that thing was, her surgeon did a magnficent job in reconstructing her boobs after the removal of her implants. I thought she put forth a damn good bit of effort actually. considering that Stevie is a pampered professional, it was destined to be imperfect since it was in front of a ton of people, not her usual setting, outside, after the rain and in the midst of choking humidity.

to me, the look in her eyes at one point and that hair...I was like "damn, wild Stevie is in there" - she sang hard and smiled and gestured and twirled and changed up the notes a bit and wore BOOTS and danced...what other effort would've satisfied you? a split and cartwheel?

I thought she should have either done a new song (if she even has such a thing these days) or she should have done a different song if she's going to half-ass it with a phone-it-in performance like she did.

However, for anyone who's complaining that Stevie looked pissed, "Stand Back" is a pissed off kind of song. It's like one of the few keyboard-based pissed off rockers there is. When she sang that song on The Dance tour, there were a LOT of more pissed off performances of "Stand Back."

Can she stop doing a tired ass performance? Then we won't have to hear "phoned in performance." When she and Kid Rock did "Woodstock," that was the Stevie of old, wailing and cutting loose like we all remember her back in the day.

For the people who complained Stevie didn't look happy at the beginning, "Stand Back" is supposed to be an angry song! LOL

Apparently, there is a DVD of the whole Superbowl performance. I got an email saying it was $18 or so. So, while I ain't paying for a boot, it likely will surface for free in a matter of days. If not, so be it.

I agree , not paying for a boot dvd, Who ever did pay for it, I hope they will share it with us, by posting it on the Dime or Throwndown videos.net.

I thought it was the Hard Rock in Hollywood that was available on dvd for $18? Is this another?
